Reality Check 2

The first Moon Colonists will only stay on the Moon for one month because of surface gravity difference between Earth and the Moon.

Earth’s gravity is 9.807 m/s²

Moon’s gravity is 1.62 m/s²

That is about 17 percent of Earth’s gravity, which means the Moon has zero gravity.

Gravity helps maintain the systemic circulation throughout the human body, strengthen muscles and skeleton structure. Being weightless is equivalent to being restricted to bed because of a long-term medical problem or sitting all day. Weightlessness in space is called space sickness, which affects every aspect of the human body. After a short time, like a month on the Moon, the colonist’ should return to normal after a few days back on Earth.

Long-term weightlessness, as in years, could cause permanent damage. Muscles become atrophied from antigravity, calcium imbalance causes Osteoporosis and cardiovascular problems affects the heart, which affects major organs like the brain.

Astronauts exercise while in space to help overcome some of these problems, but full recovery only comes once the colonists return to Earth and normal surface gravity.

Reality Check: Science fiction authors rarely consider gravity between planets. Characters easily travel from one world to the other. Science fiction authors use science as a base, then bend the rules to make the story more interesting.

Science fiction fans are used to reading and watching shows where spaceships and alien planets seemingly all have the same gravity, I didn’t mention surface gravity in my story. Just in case one of my characters wants to return to Earth even after a long time away.

If authors adhered to the reality of science, there would not be a genre called science fiction. Even though science fiction fans know the truth of science, they suspend reality and inter a world where science is fiction where anything is possible.

Here is the beginning of my third book, Jessica’s Mission, explaining the colonists’ journey to their new home world: It was to be Earth’s greatest achievement, establishing the first galactic colony in the Pegasus Constellation. Using folded space technology, World Space Coalition sent three spaceships, WSC Eagle, WSC Hawk, and WSC Falcon, to transport a total of 2,035 settlers to their new home planet, Akiane. More ships were scheduled to bring a continual supply of goods to help support the settlers until they were well established on their new planet.

People of Akiane Trilogy is available on Amazon in paper back, ebook or Prime Reads.

Amazon Functions on Algorithms.

If I get 60 reviews, Amazon algorithm will kick in and start advertising me. For a long time, my reviews were stuck at 34. Eight weeks ago, I check and my reviews were at 42. Recently, I checked again. I now have 82 reviews. How exciting.

Don’t know what changed other than it’s a miracle!

Twenty percent were not pleased with my book, but 80% loved it. 🎉 😁

New Growth

Someone gave me two pink roses on Mother’s Day. Not because I’m a Mom, but because there were extras. I didn’t take a picture of the roses because I didn’t know I would have a story to tell.

I put the roses in a clear plastic bottle with water and put the container in the window where the flowers would get the eastern morning sun. One of the stalks started to sprout two set of leaves. When the roses were finished, I trimmed the flowers off. One stalk continued to grow, but the other did nothing, so I through it out.

The top sprout of leaves started to send out roots, so I cut the stalk just above the lower sprout and put it the water. Now the very top of that section of the stalk is sprouting two more set of leaves.

I’m open to advice on my new rose bushes. For now, I’ll leave the stalks in water for a year, then I’ll pot them and wait for another year, or two, before I plant them outside.

Looking for Peace and Quiet

My apartment complex is now under new management and is going through major reconstruction. Every time someone moves out, that apartment is completely updated from appliances to flooring.

It has been unending. Apartments down the hall, across the hall, on either side of me, and this month, downstairs right below me. Aaaaaa.

Most of the noise has been far enough away that I could deal with it. When it was next store, I left during the worst of it and endured the rest. A good amount of construction was quiet as when they were painting, but that’s when the loud music came on.

I’ve been debating what to do and where to go when it’s downstairs. God provided an answer.

I have some good friends who are going on two different vacations this month. One to a wedding and the other is to visit family. They said I could stay at their place! Yea!!!

I’ll stay during the day and return home after construction. I could stay the night, but that’s a lot of trouble partly moving and buying food, cooking, cleaning. It’s not far and it’s easier coming home.

I’ve decided to use the time to work on a few sort stories that have been sitting, waiting for me to get to them.

Though it would be nicer to stay home and work, I’m looking forward to the piece and quiet.

Reality Check: Colonization

In the first book of my trilogy, Pegasus Colony, WSC Moon Base sent 2,035 people to colonize an alien planet that would become their permanent home in the Pegasus Constellation. They brought building materials with them and planned to disassemble their ship to help build their new city.

Reality Check: When we hear NASA is preparing to colonize the Moon, we think long-term residence. In reality, NASA will build a moonbase for humans to stay for one month at a time.

The moonbase is the first baby steps toward building an infrastructure that could become a colony. Colonizing the Moon could be the first steps toward expanding farther into our Solar System.

In my story, we’ve already colonized our Solar System. Pegasus Colony is our first galactic colony and is Earth’s greatest achievement.

Pegasus Colony is available on Amazon in paperback, ebook and Prime read.

Up Close—Ferns

I was in the park and found a small field of ferns and I thought, Up Close.

Street Art

It was the little one’s 3rd birthday. One of her presents was a box of chalk. She and Momma went to the park and made art on the pathway.

My Future Plans

I had not made plans for my future when I retired, but because of a work-related injury, I retired earlier than planned, after which I decided to become an Indie author.

I have published one stand-alone book. My Haunted Bed & Breakfast is a cozy-heartwarming story about how three ghosts changed the life of one unhappy widow. I have also published science fiction. People Of Akiane Trilogy is about the disasters, failures, and triumphs of settlers from Earth colonizing an alien planet in the Pegasus Constellation.

It has been a long learning curve. Sometimes I wish I had been more patient and waited until now when I was better equipped to publish my first novel. But if I had waited, I would not be as well educated in writing and publishing. Not that I know everything. One should never stop learning.

I’ve made mistakes along the way, but I have also learned a lot. I plan to use that knowledge with the intention of becoming an improved Indie Author.
