Up Close—My Desk

I have decided to stretch myself in photograph. I will pick a subject and study it with my camera. I’ll start with a far away shot and work my way down to up close. I don’t have micro on my camera, but I can get up close.

I started with my work area and settled on a mug of pens and pencils sitting on my desk, then I took more random shots.

Antartica

My friends, Dick and Lina, took a cruse to Antarctica. I saw maybe 50 of the hundreds of photos he took. I could have asked for at least at least twenty of them to show you. But I settled on the two that impressed me the most.

This whale is eating.

See the little tail at the bottom of the photo? That is a whale tail.

The top half of the photo is just a portion of the ice and snow sitting on land.

Which do you prefer Star Trek or Star Wars?

I didn’t even know there was a preference. I like the both of them. I’ve seen every TV show and movie there is, many more than once.

But if I had to pick, it would be Star Trek because it already has a universe of stories and characters. Star Wars is just catching up. Both have plans for more TV shows and movies. I’m looking forward to what comes next.

What about you? Do you have a preference?

Still Waiting

Crispina Kemp…the blog from England is already posting photos of flowers blooming. England is farther north than Minnesota and yet . . . We are still waiting for spring.

Morning Flyby

While I was taking my morning walk, someone was taking a morning flyby in the sky. I took a few photos the contrails, short for condensation trails, that a jet leaves behind. Then look directly over my head and took a photo of the jet.

Signs of Spring

I took my first walk in 60F sunshine and saw the first signs of spring. Two ducks waiting for the snow to melt so they can make their nest and lay eggs.

Moral of this Story is …

In my last post, my neighbor, Victor, bought me a new snow shovel. We live in the same apartment building. We’re not BFF but we do stop and visit when we see each other.

I recently passed Victor as he was coming in and I was headed out of our building, and I wanted to say thanks for the shovel.

“My shovel worked just fine,” I said, referring to our recent blizzard.

“Funny thing,” he said, “I went to my cabin and forgot my shovel up there.”

“What?” I said. “But I saw you shoveling.”

“I had to use a small shove,” he said. “It was more work than usual.”

“Why didn’t you ask to borrow my shovel?”

He gave me a quizzical look that said, It never occurred to me to ask.

“You can borrow my shovel any time,” I said laughing. “It works great.

With a sheepish smile, he said, “Thanks.”

I got a new snow shovel because I asked for help.

He didn’t think to ask for help and labored to clean his parking space.

Moral of this story is: When you’re in trouble, ask for help. It makes life easier. ;0)

April Fools Day

Just when we thought it was over and spring was here, winter said, “No, no, no,” and hit us with another snowstorm on April 1, also known as April Fools Day.

But this time, I had a new shovel.

During the last storm, I filled my shovel with snow and when I swished the snow out of the way, the shovel flew off with the snow. I was left standing with the only the handle.

No one told me, at the end of every season, I was supposed to tighten the screw to keep the handle and shovel together. I’d lost the screw and now my shovel was in two pieces.

My neighbor loaned me his shovel and told me to keep an eye out for end of season sales when $40 shovels will be on sale for $10.

That afternoon, he went to the store and saw the shovels on sale, but there were only two left. He thought of calling me, but was afraid I might not make there in time.

So he bought the shovel and gave it to me!

I offered to pay him, but he said no. Now I have a new shovel. April Fools to you snow storm. Ha!

My Anniversary

It’s been fourteen years today, April 1, 2009, that I started blogging.

I’ve come and gone throughout the years, but I never closed the blog down because I knew I’d be back. Blogging is my favorite social media.

There were times, when I only posted a few of times a month. Sometimes they were random thoughts, sometimes I had a theme. I think I was mostly trying to find my path as a blogger. For a long while, I blogged six times a week because I was on six different challenges. Three for photography and three for flash fiction.

I have no idea how I managed it. I kept expecting to run out of ideas. I didn’t. I ran out of energy instead.

That’s the real reason I’d take a break, I didn’t have the energy, but now that my energy is replenishing, I hope to be around more often.

My favorite part of blogging is the friends from around the world. Over the years, some have given up blogging, some passed away, and some just disappeared. Fortunately, there are those, like me, who are still at it.

My second favorite is all the photography. I’ve seen far more of the world than I would have by just watching TV, documentaries, or reading books.

One of my biggest desires is to travel the world and visit my favorite bloggers and see their part of the world up close.
