Book Review: Forever Too Far

FOREVER TOO FAR by Abbi Glines: Rush promised her forever... but promises can be broken.

Torn between his love for his family and his love for Blaire, Rush has to find a way to save one without losing the other. In the end one has to be more important. Letting go isn’t easy.

Blaire believed in her fairytale... but no one can live in a fantasy.

Her love for Rush and desire to have a family keep her believing that they can find a way for this to work. Until she has to make the right decision for her and the baby. Even if it breaks her heart.

Can they find the forever that they both want or has it all just gone... too far?

Kath's thoughts: Out of all of the Too Far series by Abbi Glines, this is my most loved! Well I know you’ll say something about Rush and I agree with that but let’s be open-minded, and not put all the blame to him. Let’s blame Nan! Yeap #NanHater right here. Now who’s with me? So again I love this book. This is probably my 1st fave then Fallen too far is my 2nd. I love this because well Rush did that surprise in their wedding for Blair (and I mean really love it, because I download it and listened to it over and over and over again) then there’s baby Nate I mean it made me “awwww” too many times when Rush tries to feel baby Nate’s kicking. And lastly I loved this book because Blaire’s last name is now a Finlay! Woohoo!

Okay so now let’s talk about what I hated in this book and that is of course no other than (drum roll please) Nan! Nan Nan Nan! Tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk! I mean come on, we already hated her on the first book but I didn’t think she’ll be worse this time but hey! My bad I thought wrong. So… urgh! Nan?! Really?! I’m just so sick of your childish actions and then blame everyone for it and for giving the reason that “I want to be loved” bullshit. How can she be loved if she keeps pushing them away!? Like Grant was there for her, but what did she did? She took him for granted. And not only did Nan blames Blaire for taking away Rush she also blames her sister Harlow for taking their father’s attention. Well you know what Nan? You don’t get to blame others for you being you.

Oh mentioning Harlow and Grant. Oohhh… this is a plus from the book and also Della and Woods. So I’m looking forward for Harlow and Grant’s story (Team Harlow) of course Della & Woods story is already published Twisted Perfection & Simple Perfection. Rosemary is changing and I’ll sure be there to read it! :) I love Abbi Glines!

Book Review: All To Myself

ALL TO MYSELF by Annemarie Hartnett: “Why would I make you nervous?”

“Because I like you. Fully clothed or naked, I like you -- though I prefer naked.”

--

Working two jobs this last summer at home, Rory is almost entirely focused on the road that will take her out of her rural community and toward a future that doesn’t involve waiting tables or tending bar at the local resort hotel. For her, life begins when she leaves.

Everything changes when she’s knocked off her bike by Noah Hyland’s fancy car. Her boss’s son has a reputation for being an arrogant womanizer, but in Noah, Rory starts to see someone trying to find his way in the world … someone like her.

It wasn’t supposed to be a complicated summer. She wasn’t supposed to fall in love.

TeriLyn's thoughts: **Author provided a copy in exchange for an honest review**

All To Myself is a sweet and spicy novella that tells the story of Rory and Noah. This was a quick read for me and I liked it. It's an easy read about two people and the summer they fell in love. They're both fiesty and go after what they want, quickly learning what they want is each other. I enjoyed reading about their exploits. The writing flowed seamlessly and was easy to read. I wish their story was longer than a novella, I would have liked to known more about their pasts and what drives them but overall it's a good summertime romance!

Book Review & Interview: Sweet by Erin McCarthy

SWEET (True Believers, #2) by Erin McCarthy: Jessica Sweet thought going away to college would finally make her free of her parents’ constant judgments and insistence she play chastity club role model for their church events, but if anything, the freedom has made her realize she can’t go home and be a hypocrite anymore. Tired of dodging their questions, she stays at school over the summer and lands in an unexpected crash pad: Riley Mann’s house.

Sarcastic, cocky, and full of opinions, Riley is also sexy personified with tattoos and biceps earned from working as a roofer all day. Not the right guy for her even if Jessica was looking for a relationship, which she is definitely not. But Jessica knows that Riley hides the burden of having to raise his younger brothers behind that grin and as she helps him get his house in order for a custody hearing, they begin to fall hard for each other, and she is forced to question what she’s hiding herself.

Jessica has never had a problem getting naked with a guy, but when it comes to showing Riley how she truly feels inside, her fear of rejection may just ruin the best thing—the best guy—to ever happen to her…

Lori's thoughts: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I immediately connected with the voice. I loved how feisty Jessica was. I admire her strength and her courage and her determination to get things done and make her living quarters a better place. Not just because she thought they were unacceptable but, she knew it would benefit Riley's case for getting custody of his two younger siblings.

Riley was amazing. The banter between these two was a lot of fun. There were several times I laughed out loud at either something Jessica said or some conversation between the two of them. There are a lot of thoughts about double standards in the story. Like how many guys is it "okay" for a girl to sleep with before she finds "the one," as opposed to how many girls a guy sleeps with. How many is too many? :) This book had it all, in my opinion. The chemistry between Riley and Jessica was awesome and I love how much of a gentleman he was. Not sure many guys like this still exist, but that's why we read fiction! :)

All in all, a great read!

She Reads New Adult Interview with Erin McCarthy
Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for your fans!

SRNA: I loved True and am really looking forward to reading Sweet! Sweet is the second book in the True Believers series. How many books are you planning for this series?

Erin: I’m so glad you enjoyed TRUE! There are four books total in the series, all written already and all the heroines are characters you met in TRUE.

SRNA: Is Sweet a sequel to True, or is it completely standalone?

Erin: It is a stand alone because I do give the reader the backstory, but I think it is probably more fun if you read TRUE first, so that you can enjoy catching up with previous characters.

SRNA: After Sweet, what's up next in the True Believers series?

Erin: Out in January 2014 is BELIEVE, which is Robin’s story. You get a hint of what is to come in SWEET, and there is a blurb about BELIEVE in the back of SWEET. A Mann cousin, Phoenix, is the hero.

SRNA: You've written numerous books! About how long does it take you to write a full-length novel?

Erin: It depends on the genre. New Adult is fast for me, less than two months. For my contemporary romances, usually about three months, sometimes less, depending on my travel and promo schedule.

SRNA: How long have you been writing?

Erin: I sold my first book in 2002 and I had been actively pursuing publication about two years prior to that. But I always wanted to be a writer. I won a contest in first grade for young authors and I was hooked. Make stuff up and get paid! Yeah, I’m in. ;)

SRNA: Any advice for wannabe authors?

Erin: Join a writer’s group like Romance Writer’s of America and learn about the industry in addition to your craft.

SRNA: Your profile says that you have a weakness for tattoos. Do you have any of your own?

Erin: Yes, I have two and a third in progress. My forearm has the Latin script, “Aut viam inveniam aut faciam.” It means “I’ll either find a way or make one.” It’s my visible strength reminder every day. Then on my foot and ankle I have morning glories in memory of my father, who used to call me that when I was a kid. And I’m getting old school roses around my stomach and up my ribcage with a sugar skull.

SRNA: Anything else you'd like to share with your fans?

Erin: If SWEET or BELIEVE make the NY Times, I’m going to get a tattoo that represents something in the book. I found an adorable little bird that is spelling out BELIEVE with string that I would to put on my pinky finger, but it’s no go if I don’t make the lists, so help me out here readers! :)
Thanks again!

**Note from Lori @ SRNA** Get prepared for that next tattoo. :) I saw a really awesome tattoo for the word "Believe" this weekend. The 'B' was in red and shaped like a sideways heart. I loved it!

Book Review: Wish I May

WISH I MAY by Lexi Ryan: I grew up wishing on stars.

My father taught me to believe…in destiny, in magic, in happily ever after. Dreams were my scripture and the starry night sky was my temple. Then Mom stopped believing, left him, and took us with her. At the age of sixteen, I cashed in my dreams to pay the rent, pawned my destiny to keep my sisters together.

Now, seven years later, I’m returning home, grieving the death of my mother, and settling my sisters back into the life Mom threw away. I never intended to stay. I don’t want to deal with my father, who is so invested in the spiritual world he forgets the physical. I don’t want to face William Bailey, whose eyes remind me of the girl I was, the things I’ve done, and the future I lost.

This would all be easier if Will hated me. As it is, I have to hold my secrets close so they won’t hurt him more than they’ve already hurt me. But he wants to be in my life. He wants what I can’t bring myself to confess I sold. He wants me.

I find myself looking to my stars again...wondering if I dare one more wish.

Lori's thoughts: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I adore Lexi Ryan's writing. I really enjoyed Unbreak Me, (the first book in the series), and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. If I keep reading all these romance novels with these amazing main men, I'll be ruined for life. I'm never going to find one to measure up to men like William Bailey. He has the patience of a saint. Cally is far from perfect with a past. Ms. Ryan has a talent for writing about flawed characters, and frankly, I'd much rather read about someone like Cally, who has a questionable past, than I would Ms. Homecoming Queen. William and Cally had sexual chemistry and tension that litterally jumped off the pages. It kept me guessing as to what Cally's story was all about.

Another winner, I highly recommend!

Liz Reinhardt was born and raised in the idyllic beauty of northwest NJ. A move to the subtropics of coastal Georgia with her daughter and husband left her with a newly realized taste for the beach and a bloated sunscreen budget. Right alongside these new loves is her old, steadfast affection and longing for bagels and the fast-talking foul mouths of her youth.

She loves Raisinettes, even if they aren't really candy, the Oxford comma, movies that are hilarious or feature zombies, any and all books, but especially romance (the smarter and hotter, the better), the sound of her daughter's incessantly wise and entertaining chatter, and watching her husband work on cars in the driveway.

She is the author of the Brenna Blixen series (Double Clutch, Junk Miles, Slow Twitch), the Youngblood series (Fall Guy, Perfectly Unmatched), and co-writes with the awesome Steph Campbell in the Lengths series (Lengths, Depths, Limits, Ties, Riptides).

Book Review: When it Rains

WHEN IT RAINS by Lisa De Jong: One night changed my life forever.

Beau Bennett has been my best friend since I can remember. He was my first crush before everything came crashing down, and now he wants more, but it's more than I can give him. Things are different now. I wish I could tell him why, but I can't.

I haven’t told anyone.

I never knew how much I really needed him until the day he left for college, and I was completely alone.

Then one day, Asher Hunt rides into town with his dark, captivating eyes and cocky grin. He doesn't care who I used to be, he's simply breathing life into what’s left. People warn me to stay away from him, but he helps me forget the pain that has held me hostage for so long; something I thought was impossible before he walked into my life.

I’ve been hurt.

I’ve been saved.

And I’ve found hope.

I thought my story was written that night, but now I know it was only a new beginning. Until one secret turns my world upside down…

Again.

Lori's thoughts: This book was ranked at the top of the New Adult best seller's list over the weekend, and I can certainly see why, after reading it. Be warned...if you're going to read this book, be prepared to cry. You will absolutely cry. A lot. My heart broke for Kate for what she went through. Then my heart broke for Beau for how Kate let him go because she didn't think he would want her after what had happened. Then...Asher. Just when I thought it was safe to put away the Kleenex box...here comes another bombshell. At about 60% of the way through the book. I don't think I stopped crying the whole last 40% of the book. It's a remarkable story. Not your typical read, at all.

The only reason I didn't give the book 5 stars is because I didn't connect immediately with the voice -- and there were a few minor typos. Nothing major, and it didn't distract that much from my reading pleasure. I just noticed them. Overall, I loved the book and look forward to more from this author in the future.

Book Review: Can't Go Home

CAN'T GO HOME by Angelisa Stone: Everyone has secrets; secrets meant to be kept—hidden away where nobody can discover the truth. Adrian O’Donnell (aka: Dre Donley) is no exception. Dre spins tales and half-truths like it’s his job, keeping the reality of his past buried deep within each lie he fabricates. On the other hand, Kathryn Howell is the exception to the rule. She’s a straight-shooter, a tell-it-like-it-is, no filter kind of girl.

Kathryn’s honesty and straightforwardness is the ultimate turn on for a guy like Dre. He’s never met someone so sincere, so full of truth and innocence. Their chemistry is unavoidable, their connection, magnetic. When Dre sets out to make Kathryn fall for him, he doesn’t realize the grave mistake he’s making. Kathryn’s strength and convictions do not falter, even for an irresistible man like Dre. When his past resurfaces, and the lies come tumbling forth, Kathryn must decide if his deceit and betrayal can be forgiven or if the damage is irreparable. Will the truth ultimately destroy the relationship that neither one of them could deny or even attempt to resist?

This novel is for mature readers only, due to language and sexual content.

Kath's thoughts: I loved this book! I know the typical new-adult genre story is either light or a heavy drama. Well, this book is a little bit in the middle that’s why I loved it. It’s a refresher, a page turner, a break from once in a while heavy reads.

It started with a pretty strong tactic that the Author Angelisa Stone showed Kathryn’s personality here is a feisty one. I’m saying she’s not some Princess waiting in the tower for Prince Charming to save her and swoon her over. I’m saying she’s the kind of girl who will slay her own dragon or even tame a dragon for a pet. So when Dre met Kathryn, his power of compulsion to swoon over women easily has no effects on her. She’s hard work for him and he felt challenged. He met his match.

Dre’s a guy who’ll want to introduce himself to a girl, dine her and then… well you know what happens after dinner ;) but then he realizes Kathryn’s someone you don’t do that to, like he could actually learn a thing or two from Kathryn. Okay scratch that Kathryn’s his refresher, a new person from his past life. He needs Kathryn. And Kathryn needs to know the truth.

So what I’m telling you is… this is a light book and I assure you you’ll like it. Angelisa Stone is one Author you sure do need to look-out too. And find out what’s his past (oh don’t worry you’ll be shock but you’ll get over it)

4. Promise Me Light by Paige Weaver: At one time my life was simple. Easy. But that was before the war. Now I was no longer an average college student. I was a survivor. A woman living in a ravaged world. My future was not bright and my life was far from perfect. The war had taken so much from me... but it wasn't finished yet. It wanted more.

It wanted my heart. My soul. The one person I couldn't live without.

It wanted Ryder Delaney. My best friend. The bad boy. The one person who could fight like no other and love me like no one else. He was the father of my baby. I watched him walk away one hot summer day and I prayed he would return. I needed him like I needed air to breathe and water to drink. Without him I was lost. A light without her darkness.

Until he returns, I'll wait for him. And I believe he will return because love is powerful...

And so is the light calling him home.

5. Unspoken (The Woodlands) by Jen Frederick: I've been called all these at Central College. One drunken night, one act of irresponsible behavior, and my reputation was ruined. Guys labeled me as easy and girls shied away. To cope, I stayed away from Central social life and away from Central men, so why is it that my new biology lab partner is so irresistible to me?

He's everything I shouldn't want. A former Marine involved in illegal fighting with a quick trigger temper and an easy smile for all the women. His fists aren't the danger to me, though, it's his charm. He's sliding his way into my heart and I'm afraid that he's going to be the one to break me.

Impulsive. Unthinking. Hot tempered.

I allow instinct to rule my behavior. If it feels good, do it, has been my motto because if I spend too much time thinking, I'll begin to remember exactly where I came from. At Central College, I've got fighting and I've got women and I thought I was satisfied until I met her.

She's everything I didn't realize I wanted and the more time I spend with her, the more I want her. But she's been hurt too much in the past and I don't want to be the one to break her. I know I should walk away, but I just can't.

6. Who We Are (FireNine #2) by SQ Williams: Eight months.

That’s how long it’s been since Eliza last saw Gage and they both feel as if they don’t deserve one another’s forgiveness. He screwed up. She walked away without looking back. They’ll try and make up all the time they’ve lost with one another, that is until they’re facing the choices of either going their separate ways, or hanging on and fighting for dear life.

The fights will be endless. They heartache will be real. The demons will return, and they won’t back down without a fight.

There are some who will do anything to keep true love apart, and those same people will dig deep into their demonic ways until Eliza and Gage are literally no more.

Can Eliza and Gage overcome it all? Will they be able to face the true demons that are seeking to destroy them? Or will they just forget about everything they’ve worked so hard for and go their separate ways?

Sometimes you have to go through struggles in order to reach an ultimate point of peace… but will their struggle be worth it?

7. Out of Line by Jen McLaughlin: Desperate to break free...

I've spent my entire life under my father's thumb, but now I'm finally free to make my own choices. When my roommate dragged me to my first college party, I met Finn Coram and my life turned inside out. He knows how to break the rules and is everything I never knew I wanted. A Marine by day and surfer by night, he pushes me away even as our attraction brings us closer. Now I am finally free to do whatever I want. I know what I want. I choose Finn.

Trying to play by the rules...

I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She's a rule I know I shouldn't break, but damn if I don't inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I'm ready to step out of line. And even worse? I'm living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case...

The truth will cost me everything.

8. Perfect Mate (Book Two: A Werewolf BBW Shifter Romance) by Aubrey Rose: The standalone romance novella which follows the #1 Bestselling Shifter Romance Blind Wolf!

Julia always thought that she was human. When the blind leader of a pack of straggling misfits claims her as his one true mate, she accepts that she is in love with Damien despite their radical differences.

But after another shifter wolf attacks them, he points to her as he dies and utters words that will change Julia's life forever:

10. Keep Me Still by Caisey Quinn: Let You Leave
(novella included in this special edition of Keep Me Still)

Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that will either bind them together or tear them apart.

Keep Me Still

Scarred by loss, Layla leaves her hometown of Hope Springs, Georgia, hoping to put her painful past behind her and start over in college in California. When she runs into Landen at freshmen orientation, she has a choice to make. Reinforce those steel walls she's built up around herself or give the only boy who can keep her still a second chance.

Landen’s more than ready to tear down those walls, but this time when they come crashing down, they might bury her.
