Book Review: Futures & Frosting
Futures and Frosting (Chocolate Lovers #2) by Tara Sivec: Carter, Claire and Gavin have formed the perfect little family. Their friends are getting married and everyone is growing up, maturing and ready to face the future. Or are they?
From bachelorette party hell, porn addictions, dinner roll baseball and botched wedding proposals to finding out everyone's extended family is chock full of crazy, Carter and Claire begin to question the strength of the ties that bind them. Unfortunately, these ties have nothing to do with fuzzy handcuffs and everything to do with the mounting differences between them.
Will their friends make a mess of things with their inappropriate comments and need to know everything, or will they convince the couple that happily-ever-after sometimes really can start with beer pong?
Whairigail's thoughts: **4.75 Laugh Out Loud Stars**
The ONLY reason I have subtracted 0.25 of a star is because it took me 50 pages to laugh out loud. That is the only reason - it is still a HILARIOUSLY FUNNY novel that I would recommend to everyone.
Ok, on with the review.
Stop reading this review RIGHT NOW if you have not read Seduction & Snacks.
Claire and Gavin return to your hands in this outrageously funny sequel to Seduction & Snacks!
“It’s mind-blowing and delicious and better than finding a pot of gold, a unicorn, and a leprechaun who shits diamonds at the end of a rainbow.”
Gavin is, quote possibly, even funnier than he was in Book 1. He made me giggle at least every 5 pages!
“I'm sorry, what do you want to order?"
"A virgin. I want to order a virgin.”
“I'm going to put corn and hot sauce on your wiener, and then I'll hit you in the face with it. Hit you in the face with your corny wiener.”
Claire is just as scatty, embarrassing and ditzy as ever - the main reason us readers fell in love with her. Because there is a tiny bit of us in her! We can all relate to her outrageousness!
"I should have sold you to that traveling circus when you were four.”
“Mortification, party of one, your table is now ready.”
Carter is, well, just Swoon Worthy!
“I love both of you exactly the way you are. I love that you have no filter, and I adore that Gavin can make grown men cry. There is not one thing I would change about either of you, and if anyone doesn't like it, they can kiss my ass. You guys are my life and my family now. Nothing else matters.”
The entire book was read in about 3 hours and I'm heading onto book 3 in the near future...just go read it OK!!

Book Review: Camouflaged
Camouflaged (Hiding From Love 0.5) by Selena Laurence: Gabe Thompson enlisted to help out his buddy, but three years later he's 100% US military bad boy, serving in the desert of Afghanistan where the days are hot, but the nights are hotter.
Alexis Garcia is out to save the world. The University of Texas freshman has come to Afghanistan to do aid work with the United Nations. She's all about the peace, and she has no use for the camp's biggest, baddest, gun toting player.
But, sometimes camouflage is more than a color, and people aren't what they seem. When conflict develops not only between Gabe and Alexis, but also all around them, they're forced to look deeper, and what they find will rock their worlds and change their hearts forever.
Whairigail's thoughts: "I'm not that guy. I never will be. I'm like my old man and his old man before him. We don't rescue people. We aren't nice guys. We don't fall in love."
Oh Selena. Selena, Selena, Selena.
This is quite possibly the BEST EVER NOVELLA I've had the pleasure (and honour) of reading.
It has the right amount of angst, tension, action, sweetness and heart-stopping moments.
"I usually go balls-to-the-wall for what I want"
We meet Gabe in Hidden (Click to read my review). He is the best friend of Nick, Hidden's lead male. He is an intreaguing character and I just knew he had a story to tell.
Gabe is a complete Alpha Male - Hot, Firey Tempered, Badass and completely H.O.T!! This story is set in Afghanistan, where Gabe is stationed with the Forces.
Alexis is a do-gooder. She comes to Afghan with the UN to do some work with locals who have been affected by the war. She is under the illusion that the US Army cause most of the disruption in war-torn area's. Gabe is quick to set her straight in his no-nonsense way.
"We shoot if we have to, and a lot more often we get shot at. This is the Army sweetheart, not a freaking hippie peace rally."
There is connection between Gabe and Alexis from the offset.
"You and I have unfinished business, babe. I'll be seeing you soon."
But there is a catch. Alexis has a boyfriend back home. And Gabe is many things, but a home-wrecker is not one of them.
The rest of this story is filled with action, tension and heart-in-mouth moments. I felt...
0% - 20% Relaxed and gripped in the story
20% - 50% Giddy and waiting on the kissykissy to start.
50% - 90% Raw, ill, worried and completely taken in
90% - 100% Happy
You gotta go read this people - 5 Outstanding stars!

Book Review: Wallbanger
Wallbanger by Alice Clayton: Caroline Reynolds has a fantastic new apartment in San Francisco, a KitchenAid mixer, and no O (and we’re not talking Oprah here, folks). She has a flourishing design career, an office overlooking the bay, a killer zucchini bread recipe, and no O. She has Clive (the best cat ever), great friends, a great rack, and no O.
Adding insult to O-less, since her move, she has an oversexed neighbor with the loudest late-night wallbanging she’s ever heard. Each moan, spank, and–was that a meow?–punctuates the fact that not only is she losing sleep, she still has, yep, you guessed it, no O.
Enter Simon Parker. (No, really, Simon, please enter.) When the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. Their late-night hallway encounter has, well, mixed results. Ahem. With walls this thin, the tension’s gonna be thick…
In her third novel, Alice Clayton returns to dish her trademark mix of silly and steamy. Banter, barbs, and strutting pussycats, plus the sexiest apple pie ever made, are dunked in a hot tub and set against the gorgeous San Francisco skyline in this hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight.
Whairigail's thoughts: *4 Laugh Out Loud Stars*
“F*cking Wallbanger,” I hissed, frozed on the spot.
His grin slid off as well as he played place-the-face for a moment. “F*cking Pink Nightie Girl.”
Alice Clayton - Are you sure you are human?? I think you may be a comedian sent from another planet with the sole purpose of making us women double over with laughter!
Wallbanger is a ROMP of a read!! I listened to this on AudioBook every morning and evening on my journey to/from work...And the looks I got from fellow drivers when I was stopped at traffic light were odd to say the least! But I suppose when you are sitting at 7am, laughing so hard there are tears tripping down your face, it may seem strange!
This story is all about Caroline, Simon and Clive.
Caroline - A mid twenties Interior Designer with a passion for travelling
Simon - A Wallbanging, Man-Slut Photographer
Clive - A spoilt Pussy. No, stop the dirty thoughts right there readers - Clive is a spoilt CAT!
Clive is quite possibly my favourite ever character in a novel. No, seriously!!
Caroline moves into a new apartment in San Francisco, into a beautiful place with stunning views, a gorgeous kitchen and, unfortunately, a Wallbanging Next Door Neighbour. One that actually makes women go Crazy.
“The girl next door was meowing. What in the world was my neighbor packing to make that happen?”
“Was I seriously awake at, let’s see, one
sixteen a.m. and attempting to discern the national origin of
the woman getting plowed next door?”
Simon is just, to quote a famous song - "Just a hunk-a-hunk-a-burnin-love"!!
He is sexy, funny, sweet, clever and - a great lay!
The first 35% of this book is quite possibly the funniest things I've ever listened to.
The middle (35-70%) is the "Serious with a side of comedy" part.
The last 30% was funny, by seemed a bit repetative. I think because I was listening to it, the repetition was worse. You can't skim when you are listening!
I absolutely loved the last chapter though, I mean - I was actually driving down the motorway doing a little sitting down jig! You'll get this when you read it!
Overall, I'd give this 4 stars and recommend it to people who are looking for a break from the heavy angst-filled NA novels that are flooding us right now.
Great job Alice!!

But when Molly leaves England's grey skies behind to start a new life at the University of Alabama, she finds that she has a lot to learn—she didn't know a summer could be so hot, she didn't know students could be so intimidating, and she certainly didn't know just how much the folks of Alabama love their football.

The tall, dark and sexy blue-eyed Dyson is determined to have her. Immune to his charms, Kayla wants nothing to do with him. She knows she’s damaged and is working hard to build a life for herself, free of her terrible memories.

3. Wicked Thing by Angeline Kace: Carmyn Rafferty witnessed the aftermath of her mother's affair. She learned at a young age not to trust anyone. Especially not your spouse. So she's planned. 4. Off Chance by Sawyer Bennett: He is seeking absolution.
Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex and it’s one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because, if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.

Almost.

The eve of Halloween approaches. And whatever the sexy poet realtor wants to believe, moving beyond your past isn't the same as facing the future.

6. 3:AM Kisses by Addison Moore: Baya Brighton is looking forward to her first year at Whitney Briggs University, new friends, dorm life, and finally being close to her brother again. Love is the last thing on the list, but when Baya meets her brother’s roommate she begins to have thoughts and feelings that make even her blush.

7. Beautiful Oblivion by Addison Moore: It was supposed to be just for the summer…
Some people just don’t belong together, or at least that’s what the world would have them believe.

9. Tragically Flawed by A.M. Hargrove: Riviera Benson’s past has been nothing but horrific. Review and Giveaway: Making Faces
Making Faces by Amy Harmon: Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore.
Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl's love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior's love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.
Lori's thoughts: To those people who say that the New Adult genre is all about sex...or that the story lines are all predictable and nothing is new, you obviously need to read Amy Harmon's Making Faces (and for that matter, also read, A Different Blue). I don't even know where to begin. This book left me speechless. I cried, a lot. Throughout the book, I was reminded of several other stories. I'm showing my age here, but the characters, the boys on the wrestling team, they reminded me of the boys from the movie Porky's. Not because they behaved that way, just because. :) I also was reminded of Cyrano de Bergerac, and finally of Beauty and the Beast. Just snippets and glimpses, mind you, and not in a copycat kind of way.
I loved Fern and I loved Ambrose, apart and together. But the real star of the show? Bailey.
This is a good, clean, story with a lot of food for thought and I can't recommend it highly enough! It should also be noted that it is not limited to 17+ as is the case with so many NA books!

Amy Harmon knew at an early age that writing was something she wanted to do, and she divided her time between writing songs and stories as she grew. Having grown up in the middle of wheat fields without a television, with only her books and her siblings to entertain her, she developed a strong sense of what made a good story.Amy Harmon has been a motivational speaker, a grade school teacher, a junior high teacher, a home school mom, and a member of the Grammy Award winning Saints Unified Voices Choir, directed by Gladys Knight. SynopsisAfter nearly a year and a half of grieving the loss of her husband, twenty-seven year old Alexa Sullivan Tate is headed back to her hometown after a decade of being away. She has no idea her high school crush, Jace McAllister, the guy who stole her heart the same night that he broke it, is more than ready to pick up the pieces.
Jace has spent the last ten years in the Army defusing bomb after bomb, trying to forget the girl who ignited all his passions. Little does he know that the spark still exists.
Ten years ago they had smoldering chemistry, but the spark between them now might light a fuse that leads to an explosion even Jace can't stop. Not that he wants to. If only Alexa can get past her guilt and trust her heart again.
But how do you put it all on the line when you've already lost everything once before?
*While this is a series, each book will be standalone with spinoff characters.
ExcerptI nod, and she makes her way down the hall that I now see is lined with photographs. My stomach tightens, but I figure that I need to get this over with if I’m going to be staying here. I walk towards them, stopping at the first picture. I’m guessing it’s from the day they first met, the time she told me about, because she’s giving him a playful frown while he’s grinning at her like he’s already half in love with her, which, to be honest, he probably was. I feel a slight twinge as I take in the picture, knowing that at that moment he had no idea how short of a life he was going to have with her. Hell, he probably wouldn’t have even cared, as long as he had her while he could.
Shaking the thought out of my head, I browse each one. There are candid shots of them mixed throughout professional ones from events such as her graduation, Sierra and Jeremy’s wedding, and what looks like an engagement party. As I pass each picture, it’s becoming more real to me that she had a whole separate life before we reconnected. Strangely, I’m not bothered by it, seeing how happy she looks in these pictures, even though it was with another man and not me. I’ll admit that I was a little worried when she told me about their fighting, but looking at these pictures? I know Ty made her a happy woman, and I’m grateful that she had that while she could. Do I wish it had been me? Fuck yes, but what can you do?
Coming to the last picture, I’m breathless as the image of Alexa in a wedding dress enters my vision. I’m moving in for closer inspection when she comes out of her room, stopping when she catches me. Her hand covers her mouth as she closes her eyes for a split second. She swallows hard before walking towards me. She reaches out her hand as if to touch my arm before pulling it back, obviously thinking better of it.
“Jace, I… This is probably awkward, I’m sorry. I just… I wasn’t expecting you, and I don’t…” She trails off as she stares at the wall, glancing at the picture before turning her eyes towards the floor.

We currently live right outside of Dayton, OH with our two cats.
I've been reading since I was a kid. My mom was a librarian, so it was a given. Heck, she even made sure we watched Wishbone instead of the Smurfs. In 2011 when I graduated from college, my mom bought me a Nook, and then in the summer of 2012 I found this amazing site called Goodreads. I was introduced to so many amazing indie/self-published authors. After reading almost 400 books that year, my husband gave me the push to finally sit down and write my own. It was a rocky start, but over time the words started flowing and I couldn't get Jace and Lexi out of my head.
If I’m not writing or looking through tons of photos of hot men, all in the name of research, then you can probably find me curled up with my Kindle, ignoring the rest of the world. I love my sports almost as much as I love my books. My other obsessions include red wine, hot men, country music, and all things Grace Potter.
