Stay by Hilary Wynne
(Alexa Reed #1)
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Synopsis:
Set against the steamy and sultry world of South Beach, Florida, a modern romance unfolds in Stay.
Alexa is beautiful, independent and hard to resist for serially unattached Julian. Neither one is looking for a relationship, but their palpable chemistry and instant emotional connection is too strong to ignore. For the first time in years, Julian is interested in more than just sex. He wants a relationship with intoxicating Alexa, but it’s not that simple. Not only are Julian and Alexa struggling with the intensity of this new relationship, but they also have to contend with Luke, Alexa’s best friend, whose own love for her leaves him willing to do anything to convince her that Julian is not the man for her. Luke’s determination and Alexa’s secret past threaten to tear Julian and Alexa apart as she struggles to open her heart to love. Julian and Alexa embark upon a roller-coaster ride of emotional and physical passion that both pulls them apart and holds them together. Despite their affinity for each other, Alexa fears that Julian will leave when he learns about her past and Julian is unsure he can love a woman who in so many ways remains a mystery, a woman who keeps threatening to run, a woman who can’t decide if she is going to STAY.

AUTHOR BIO
Have you ever woken up one day and said, “Today’s the day I’m going to do (insert thing here)?” Well, I did, and the result is my first novel, Stay. I always thought of myself as a decent writer, and then a trip down memory lane through my ninth grade book of poetry confirmed it. I realize that I have always had a romantic side and a way with words. With support from my husband and kids (and an unspoken agreement to leave me alone for a few hours every night), I embarked on this incredible writing journey.
I’m originally from sunny Southern California and spent my summers in South Florida. I attended college at FSU and received my Masters in New Mexico. I finally settled in the Washington, DC area. My happy place has always been anywhere near the water.
When I’m not writing, I help run a business with my husband, watch an inordinate amount of sports (my kids play something 365 days a year), indulge my competitive spirit on the tennis court, and spend time with my awesome family and friends.
I am an avid reader, but find my characters feel neglected when I hang out with other author’s characters for too long. When I do read, historical fiction is my favorite genre. I love traveling and experiencing different cultures, places, and times.
I feel so blessed that my love of books inspired me to finally do something that I forgot I had always dreamed about doing.
My someday has arrived!

Book Review & Giveaway: Perfectly Broken
Perfectly Broken by Prescott Lane: Even after years of trauma therapy, Peyton still believes she’s broken. She has little desire to date or show off her natural beauty, content simply to hang out with her best friends and run her pie shop in New Orleans. But her world turns upside-down when a handsome architect and self-confessed player shows up in her shop and thinks she’s perfect, much more than the usual hook-up. While Peyton does her best to resist his charms, believing she could never be enough for him, she can’t deny the obvious heat between them. With Reed determined to have her, Peyton must decide whether to continue to hide behind her apron and baggy clothes or take a chance and share her scars with Reed, a man with a playboy reputation and scars of his own -- a dark past he can’t possibly share with Peyton, not after learning the horrors she’s endured. But if they can find a way to trust each other, and themselves, they just might be able to heal, to save each other, to live perfectly broken together.
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Perfectly Broken was generously provided by the author in exchange for honest review.**
Perfectly Broken flawlessly executes a love story about two kindred spirits who help each other heal and grow. The story deals with very delicate subject matter beautifully. The plot moves at a reasonable pace; it’s not too fast or too slow. By way of third person POV, which is not my favorite POV but I think is a good stylistic choice for this story, the author tells us the love story between a woman who’s dark wounds still fester deep inside her soul and a man who’s been fighting judgment his entire life.
What I absolutely love about this book is the author’s development of their relationship. There is a bit of chasing in a fun and flirty way and then the exploration of themselves and who they are together. It’s a seemingly long progression from other books I've read but given the fragility of the heroine’s past with the juxtaposition of the hero’s reputation it worked so appropriately.
Peyton and Reed are in their mid to late thirties as well and the maturity they show is also age appropriate. They’re successful, smart, reliable, funny, and playful. I would be remiss I didn't mention the maturity in which the author handles the character of Peyton. I've said this one hundred times and I’ll say it one hundred more, but strong heroine’s always stand out for me and always make a love story better. Without taking a risk of spoiling any major plot points I’ll just say Peyton’s strength refreshed me.
The author gave us this beautiful creature in Peyton who exemplifies hope, perseverance, and ultimately peace. That’s a good word for this story, peace. The characters yearn for peace and fulfillment. And the journey in which they embark on to get there provides a hopeful love story with solid characters. I've never experienced what Peyton or even Reed have been through but there is something special about this author’s writing and the soulful voice in which she tells her story that makes me really believe in happily ever after’s. Perfectly Broken is honest, real, and full of feeling; excellent love story.
Jordynn's thoughts: This was such a sweet story. The characters were great and I enjoyed the banter between Peyton and Reed. The protectiveness of Quinn was just right as sometimes this can be overdone. This is an excellent story. I couldn't put the book down. I was caught up in Peyton and reeds story as they both showed vulnerability that made me love the characters even more. I look forward to reading more books by this author as her writing style was very refreshing.

Book Review & Giveaway: The Heart Knows What the Heart Wants
Title: The Heart Knows What the Heart WantsAuthor: Lori L. ClarkGenre: Contemporary RomanceRelease Date: March 6, 2014Hosted by: Promotions by Stephanie
SynopsisEstelle "Star" Falconé, a thirty-year-old tattooed bartender, was once a free-spirited dreamer who dabbled in astrology for fun and secretly dreamed of becoming a rock-star some day.
Twenty-one-year-old Shane Harper was once the star of his high school basketball team. With a full ride scholarship, his dream was to play college basketball and study astronomy. When a tragic car accident permanently sidelines his basketball career, college is out of the question.
Sparks fly when their two worlds collide.
Can a relationship survive between a thirty-year-old starry-eyed woman who's on the run from an extremely dangerous man, and a twenty-one-year-old science guy who's hell-bent on protecting her at all cost?
The Heart Knows What the Heart Wants is a 61k word standalone with no cliffhangers.
***Caution***
This book is not suitable for young readers. It is intended for mature adults only (18+) containing adult situations, non-consensual sex and violence. This is a complete, standalone novel.
Coming March 6th, 2014!
Whairigail's Thoughts:
The beginning of this book is strong and to the point - it gives us a harsh insight into Star's life with her husband.
"Sensing her movement, he spun around and stalked after her, his reflexes were dulled from drinking, and he was unsteady on his feet. She managed to evade him long enough to get out of the kitchen. Just as she made it to the dining room, she felt him grab the back of her shirt; he yanked so hard she heard the material rip at the seams(...) She stiffened when she heard him undo his belt buckle, then the zipper on his pants"
The rest of this quote will be excluded from reviews as it deals with rape but you can guess where it is going.
The rest of the book - whilst it has its darker moments - is easy to read and has some serious sweet instances.
Shane is a 21 year old boy with s tough background, he is recovering from an injury that has marred his late teens. He meets Star and there is an instant attraction between them.
How was it even possible for him to put her at ease while at the same time twisting her insides into pretzel like knots?
I loved all the characters and admired Star's strength.
The thing that brought it down for me was the pacing of the book - it seemed to go slowly until the last chapter then the ending just kind of hit you.
Epilouge was brilliant though, sweet and made me smile.
The heart knows what the heart wants, Blue. Mine wants you

Book Review: Cupcakes and Ink
Cupcakes and Ink (Clipped Wings 0.5) by Helena Hunting: Tenley Page is looking for a new start: a new city, a new apartment, a new life. Her plan is to keep to herself and stay focused. But leaving her past behind and starting over isn’t as easy as she thought. And neither is maintaining her solitude. As Tenley settles into her new surroundings, she finds herself drawn to Inked Armor, the tattoo studio across the street. But it’s the gorgeous, dark-haired tattoo artist who captures her interest. There’s something about his severe beauty that captivates her—and not just in her waking hours.
Covered in the ink he inscribes on other people’s skin, Hayden Stryker has made a career out of being a tattooist. He’s got his own business and a tight circle of friends. As far as he’s concerned, that’s all he needs. At least until his aunt, who owns the antiques and used book store across from his tattoo studio, hires a new employee. At first his intrigue is based on physical appeal; hot chick equals something nice to look at. But as he begins to catch glimpses of the fiery personality under the fragile, feminine exterior, his fascination with Tenley grows. Annoyed by his inability to control his fixation, Hayden decides the best way to cure him of the new obsession is to get to know the girl under her skittish façade.
But like the ink he wears as armor, Tenley has the ability to get under his skin and stay there.
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Cupcakes and Ink generously provided by publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
Cupcakes and Ink allures the reader into the worlds of Tenley and Hayden. The reader is introduced to these characters that have yet to be formally introduced to each other. We learn they both have secrets but we don't know anything about those secrets. My favorite aspect of this novella is the author's way of drawing the reader into this world. Here I am, having no information other the blurb, a novella that sets up for book one rather than provides any true development of character and I'm totally intrigued by both characters. My least favorite part of the novella is the length; it's rather short so not exactly what I was expecting. It's told from both Tenley and Hayden's POV to set us up for Clipped Wings. Even from the short amount of words Cupcakes and Ink provided it was well written and fluid. If the writing and allure indicates what’s to come for these two then I know I'll enjoy their story.

Book Review: Clipped Wings
Clipped Wings (Clipped Wings #1)by Helena Hunting: An emotional love story that follows the touch-and-go relationship of Hayden and Tenley; two young people who desperately want to love and be loved but are afraid to completely let go of their pasts.
As Hayden and Tenley navigate their newfound but slightly unstable relationship, they want to trust each other, but Hayden is hiding a dark and shameful past that he doesn't ever want Tenley to find out about. And Tenley has secrets of her own that could make Hayden run away forever. When Tenley asks Hayden to put a beautifully elaborate tattoo across her back, the two form what they thought was an unshakeable bond. But when Tenley's past shows up on her doorstep, will Hayden stand by her side...or run?
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Clipped Wings generously provided by Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
Guilt - it should be categorized as the eighth deadly sin. Guilt’s manipulative feeling settling deep in your soul, rooting itself; a nagging feeling warping all intrinsic, gut reactions. It’s always there ready to strike at the first sign of peace. Ready to strike at any given moment, the aftermath of which is akin to the aftermath of a tornado, irreparable destruction. Except guilt induced destruction comes in the form of raw emotions.
Clipped Wings chronicles the journey of Tenley and Hayden, two painfully broken characters whose need for each other becomes an addiction. These characters are enigmas to each other but as the reader we have inside access to their minds. We know the answers already. It emits such a sense of impending doom to the story; a testament to the brilliantly provocative writing of this author. It has been a while since I’ve read a story where I wasn’t waiting to hear all the secrets. When knowing what secrets are hidden and anticipating the outcome, feeling the angst of the character completely? It’s truly a fun and evocative reading experience.
I never focus on the hero before the heroine. But now Hayden Stryker finishes first in my world, above everyone. Maybe ever. He’s a complete contradiction that’s just everything. He bears his soul on his body, his brokenness a beacon. Hayden’s intense appeal is irresistible; he’s as sensitive as he is rough and demanding. Hayden’s passion turns Tenley to fire, scorching feelings of worthlessness; it’s visceral through the author’s prose. Even his evasive non-truths add to his undeniable appeal. Hayden’s control keeps the chaos created by guilt in check. Tenley’s unforeseen presence in his life imitates that tornado, the lasting effect causing irreparable effects. And seriously the man loves Oreo’s, references Flashdance, and turns undeniably adorable at the mere mention of cupcakes. There is not one thing about this character that deterred me from falling in love; Tenley certainly never stood a chance.
Tenley proves to be a manifestation of the very essence of guilt. She’s not broken, she’s shattered as Hayden comes to realize. Tenley puts on a show of strength as best she can for the outside world while her feelings of loss, guilt, and loneliness fester deep within her, paralyzing with the fear that, if exposed, the guilt will eat her alive. It’s an intoxicating cancer. And while, Tenley makes choices that I did not agree with in this book I understand them. Like all great characters Tenley is tragically flawed inviting a host of feelings both bad and good from the reader. She’s evasive and skirts the edge of dishonesty by way of deflection and half-truths. Normally, I would feel put off by this behavior but this character is so raw, so stripped bare, so irrevocably damaged sympathizing with her, feeling her pain in your chest makes you accept her, root for her. The reader comes to understand Tenley’s irrationality as her true rational because she’s so consumed with guilt and that guilt has skewed and manipulated all rational thought.
The writing sucks the reader into its orbit immersing them in this world of conflicted feelings, angst, and steaming passion. These characters catch fire when they’re together, there’s nothing that feels truer than these two tortured souls placating themselves with one another. The feelings alone evoked from this book are worth five stars. The overall plot and conflict in Clipped Wings provides an exhilarating read. It’s a cliffhanger though so be forewarned. However the story ends in this genius way, exciting and reminding us that even from the most devastating of storms the rainbow eventually following brings irreplaceable beauty. This is my new favorite book of 2014. There is nothing I want more than to immerse myself again in the tragically beautiful world of Tenley and Hayden when Inked Armor arrives.
Lori's Thoughts: **Clipped Wings generously provided by Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
My thoughts are short and sweet compared to TeriLyn's fantastic review above. I enjoyed the book, it was well written and the characters were awesome in their broken-ness. I didn't agree with some of the choices Tenley made, but I understood her motives for making them. I loved Hayden and Tenley. The book did end a bit abruptly for my taste. I understand it was a good place to end it, but still, I wasn't expecting the drop off. I kept trying to turn pages in my Kindle and it wouldn't work. Ha! I look forward to reading the 2nd book in the series and recommend you get a copy of this one as soon as possible and devour it. I really liked the book a lot!

Book Review & Giveaway: Kissing Eden
Kissing Eden
by T.A. Foster: Have you ever thought of taking a vacation alone? I mean step on a plane, check into your hotel, and lie on the beach completely and utterly alone. No? Me either, but then right before senior spring break I got dumped.
Something about break ups makes you do things you didn’t want to do, and try things you didn’t know you were capable of.
That’s how I ended up at the Palm Palace.
That’s how I met Grey.
That’s how my spring break turned into the most unforgettable week of my life.
If your going to be laying on a beach (or wishing you were on a beach) this would be a great book to read. It is a quick fun read about summer love. The book goes pretty quick but it covers a fun and interesting week of spring break spent in a non-traditional type of way. Even though it was a shorter book you still got a bit of background on the characters. I wasnt a fan of Eden saying that Grey was moody when that is all you got from her in the beginning of the book which seemed to be a bit over the top with how she was acting. All in all its a fun summer read.

T.A. Foster once spent a monthlong spring break on South Padre Island, where she soaked in the Texas sun, beach, and learned what real Texas country music is. Sometimes fiction does spring from reality. She grew up catching rays and chasing waves along the North Carolina Outer Banks and now resides in the state with her adventurous pilot husband, two children, and two canine kiddos. one-story brick homes. They’re small—no bigger than 1500 square feet—but the

years ago. I’d started saving for a down payment eight years before that. I
thought my mother would be so proud of me for purchasing my first home—on my
