this weekend, i read poems (and others read poems) about a dead comet in a meadow in rural georgia during a meteor shower. it was a strange and beautiful night. the above photo is from the next morning, just before we all left the meadow in different cars.

My friend Rico is the headiest person I know which is saying A LOT.
I drove across the country with this dude.
Twice.
Here’s a photo that he took of me, with the caption, “thank you, toll booth officer, for your kindness and passage.”

God, I love that guy.
Also—sweet mix CD collection, right?
and here is a photo i took at rico’s cabin, in northern colorado, of a raw deer heart. we rolled up to the cabin at dusk as rico was cutting the deer - which was hanging from the tree - wide open. after we parked, i walked over to where rico was working on the deer. rico had removed the heart. he cut a small chunk of meat off the tip and, chewing on his own piece, offered a piece to me, which i did not refuse.
the next week, rico still had the heart in a ziploc bag, which he happend to have in his backpack. on the patio of one of the bars the poetry students at csu frequented, he removed the bag from his backpack and began to cut off slivers of the heart, which he would eat, smiling.
i relate this story, not to make rico sound like a psycho, but to explain why i appreciate this person so much.
