THE WRITE WHISPER: Dreaming

I've mentioned on several occasions that I get many of my ideas/titles/first lines/characters in that half drowsy/half awake state just before dropping off to sleep. In fact, if I need to ponder a plot point or a conflict that isn't quite working, I'll take to bed, close my eyes and let my mind wander. It's a great technique and often works. (Drifting off to nap is a bonus!) Imagine my surprise when I recently discovered there's a technical term for this. There is a naturally occurring...

Growing up

You know your 'baby' is growing up when:

-he insists on dressing himself

-he tells you who he's going to marry

-his feet outgrow shoes at a rate of knots

-he's barely out of preschool and he's already up to my shoulder

-he patronisingly explains that he knows more than me on many subjects, predominantly involving dinosaurs

-he copes admirably with being separated from his Prep friends as he moves up through the school ranks

Despite all this, he's never too old for daily cuddles and squishes, which I...

I hear thunder

We're having scary thunderstorms in Melbourne at the moment, which means I have to get off line ASAP (after the lightning strike of 6 months ago, they give me the heebee jeebies.)

Will leave you with my favourite crooner. Isn't he fab?

He's back!

I knew he couldn't stay away long.

Revisions for WILD ABOUT YOU have landed, which means more staring at Nathan Fillion pics to give me a feel for my tennis champ hero, Jared Malone.

It's a hard life.
But somebody's gotta do it!

Musical muse

Many authors write to music.

Personally, I prefer silence, just me and my characters, but when I'm not at the PC I adore music. Jazz, pop, R&B, whatever takes my fancy at the time.

And thanks to the talent of this man, I'm now hooked on violin.

Laurent Korcia looks like he could be a hero on the cover of one of my novels.

Instead, he's a talented violinist and I've been playing his CD 'Cinema' ever since I got it.

Check him out here .

Hot, huh?
(the music too!)

Stan the Man

I've never watched much Australian Idol but luckily, got hooked into this series about half way through.

Mainly because of this man and his amazing voice.

Stan Walker won OZ Idol Sunday night, in a close contest with Hayley Warner, a 17 year old rock chick with a unique voice.

Both are destined for stardom.

As Michael Buble said, it was like 'God kissed Stan's throat', his voice is that good.

Really looking forward to the 'soul man's' first album.

Make me smile

I've been up to my neck in deadlines over the last few months so haven't watched a movie for AGES!

Saturday night, once all medicine dispensed and kids in bed (by the way, thanks for all your thoughts, toddler is very, very slowly improving) I curled up on the couch to watch NO RESERVATIONS.

It was lovely.
I adore food (a theme you'll see in many of my books!) and enjoyed Aaron Eckhart's performance immensely.

I have no idea who he is. Must google.

Now, any other movie recommendations to make me ...

Pass me a pen

After another tension-fraught twenty four hours, prevaricating whether to take toddler to the hospital or not, I'm exhausted!

Hoping for some improvement this weekend.

In the meantime, I'm getting a rough idea of my characters for GETTING WILD WITH THE BOSS down on paper.
(In case you've forgotten my inspiration for hero Rhys Cartwright, take another look!)

There's something so comforting for me, curling up on the couch with my pen and notepad, jotting down stuff for my next book. I really enjoy...

My day with Doogie

Yesterday was one of 'those' days.

Spent most of it at the hospital with toddler.
What was initially thought mild asthma a few months ago is more severe and a trip to local doc ended up with me being sent directly to hospital.

Where I met up with Doogie.

I kid you not, the ER doc looking after toddler was Doogie Howser's double.
The resemblance was uncanny!

Considering he was looking after my precious bub, I didn't say anything, as I'm sure he gets it all the time and might've been a tad peeved...

Heroine cast

A huge thanks to all of you for heroine suggestions.

My favourite (and a perfect fit for Jane Connors in GETTING WILD WITH THE BOSS) is Anne Hathaway.

So thanks, Kerrin. Drop me a private email and I'll post you out a book!

Meanwhile, I'm off to do some serious brainstorming...
