Hollering for a heroine
I need your help casting my next heroine.
Not surprising, I know exactly who my heroes are every book but the heroines are becoming more elusive lately...
Jane Connors in GETTING WILD WITH THE BOSS, my next Modern Heat, comes from a wealthy background.
Society princess.
Darling of her daddy's eye.
Has conformed her entire life and happy to.
Until an incident removes the expensive mink from her eyes and she follows her dream to become a biologist.
Heads half way around the world, wants to change her ...

My not so secret crush

Love his voice.
Love his smile.
Love his cheekiness and irreverance and downright adorable factor.
And yes, I have pics saved of him in my hero folder for future use as inspiration for one of my upcoming heroes.
In the meantime, he's in OZ. I'm in OZ...

Farewell Nathan
After layering, polishing and editing like a maniac over the weekend, I sent off WILD ABOUT YOU to my lovely editor Sunday morning.
Farewelling book 23 was easy.

Farewelling my hero inspiration, Nathan Fillion, is going to be a lot tougher.

THE WRITE WHISPER: Sprinting

You know about me and exercise...so no, I'm not talking about sprints of the running variety. Lately, I've been seeing the term sprinting springing up everywhere in relation to writing. I happened to be on Twitter 2 weeks ago on a Friday night, about to start writing, when I noticed RWAus and a few Aussie authors were doing a 15 minute sprint. Basically, it involves writing as fast as you can in that time frame, non stop. Similar to pacing yourself against an egg timer, I'd say, which I...

Murphy's Law
Never fails.
It is Murphy's Law that proof edits always arrive at the busiest time possible.
I wanted WILD ABOUT YOU finished by end of this week, need to hand it in early next week, so what lands in my inbox yesterday morning?
Proof edits for OVERTIME IN THE BOSS'S BED. Which had to be in by the end of the week! Giving me 1 day to do them!
Okay, so I managed to do them (and really enjoy the story again in the process).
I love a feisty heroine.
I think my favourite heroines to date have been Ambe...

Picture worth a thousand words
Earlier in the week, I mentioned Sarah Jessica Parker may not be the right heroine inspiration for Kristi Wilde in my current WIP.
Well, I wrote up a storm yesterday. 22 pages. And the end is in sight!
That's when it hit me.

This pic, one of many I'd saved of SJP to use, fits exactly into the ending I'd planned.
How prophetic is that?
While I'm not a visual writer, it's times like these I love pics to inspire.

New digital publisher
In case you haven't heard the news, Harlequin has entered the digital publishing arena with a new company, CARINA PRESS.
Carina Press are actively taking submissions so check them out here .
The move has resulted in loads of discussion from both new and established authors.
Personally, I love their catch cry: WHERE NO GREAT STORY GOES UNTOLD.
Cool!

From across the ocean
It's always lovely to meet people you've heard about, especially fellow writers, so it was great for me to have lunch with author Kaye Kelly last Sunday.
Kaye hails from across the ocean, in New Zealand, and has published 2 books with Random House over there. Love the sound of this one. (And before you say anything...no, I'm not jaundiced, just the sun reflecting off the paint. And yes, my face is rounder than usual. 15kg rounder to be precise. Courtesy of the bung foot and operation...

Long live Castle
WILD ABOUT YOU is coming along nicely.
Wrote over 10000 words last week, need to write that many at least this week to get first draft
done and ready for deadline next week.
Watching Castle last night can only help. I know I've said this before, I'll say it again...Nathan Fillion is brilliant! And I loved when Beckett rushed home from work, poured a bubbly bath, had a glass of red and settled down to read his latest book. I love their spark.I love his relationship with his daughter.I love the...

Mis-cast
I think I've miscast my heroine in WILD ABOUT YOU.

A bit late to discover, considering I'm almost at 40 000 words, but since I've been immersing myself in the story the last few days, the more I realise Sarah Jessica Parker has too much chutzpah for Kristi Wilde.
Don't get me wrong. Kristi's fairly 'out there' but I know in my heart the casting isn't right.
And considering I need to get the first draft of this book done by end of next week, I'm not going to change now.
So I have this vague idea ...
