The power of one word
As writers, we know the power of words. So picture this. Kidlet went first at the dentist, got the all clear.I sit in chair, feeling rather nervous but trying not to look it for his sake.Sunglasses on, drool bib on, spotlight on, chair tilts back, dentist starts poking. I had Xrays during check up last year, so won't need them again until next year, she says. Then the next words out of her mouth was something along the lines of '318 molar...extraction.' I froze (like I wasn't already stiff with

Gritting teeth
Actually, I'm trying not to grit my teeth, for the simple fact I'm off to the dentist today.
I'm not a fan of dentists.
Nothing against them personally, I've just never liked going.
Which is why I didn't go to one for about 20 years.
Crazy, huh?
When I did go, wasn't too bad. I had to have 5 fillings, about one for every four years, so coped with that.
Swore I wouldn't be so silly again.
Only left it 3 years...went last year, sure I'd need work and nada!
So I've bitten the bullet (gently, don't want t

Top secret
I've had a 'big' plot brewing in my mind for a while now.
Months, in fact.
I've cast the characters, I've collected pictures for the collage, and on the weekend, I did loads of research.
This man is the hero.

He's perfect.
I haven't seen Clive Owens in anything. Any movie recommendations to check him out in action?

Hooked

I recently finished watching the entire 'Sex and the City' series. Once I started, I couldn't stop, watching several episodes daily. I now know what all the hype was about at the time. It totally hooked me: following the lives of four friends, four very different personalities, their men, their relationships. There were times when I really wanted to shake Carrie (you all know the phrase referring to heroines being TSTL-to stupid to live?) Well, that applied to her quite a few times, when her

Twitter twit
I'm fast becoming addicted to Twitter.
Yes, I'm on Facebook and MySpace, but I just don't have the time to devote to those sites. I do a quick pop in daily, respond to comments, approve friends, post a quick update what I'm up to, that's it.
Twitter is different.
It's quick, easy, connecting to a wide range of people fast.
But I'm a novice.
I don't understand half the jargon and workings (and I'm too ashamed to say exactly what I don't understand here for fear of being labelled a real TWIT!)

I'm a sap
I've lost track of the number of '24' episodes screened this series but we're nearing the end...and I'm a sucker for a good ending (hey, I write them all the time!)
Remember I mentioned the unbelievable twist a few weeks back, where a good guy is actually bad, so bad he leaves his friend Jack (Keifer Sutherland) for dead? Well, the writers have done such a good job convincing me of Tony's motivation that I still refuse to believe he's bad. Even though he continues to do really bad things every e

It's done!
The online read is done!
7 writing days, 10000 words.
The secret?
Wrote most of it on Alphie.
I know, I know, I've raved about the AlphaSmart many times before but it really is invaluable if you want to up your speed.
I wrote most of this with the kids playing around me but somehow, once I'm on Alphie, I forget the need to find the perfect word or edit a little as I go and the words just pour out.
So the first draft is done and I'm happy with most of it.
Just a few tweaks here and there and it'll be
