Sunday Snippet

[image error] This weeks snippet comes from my upcoming paranormal romance Blood Witch!

“I’m glad you and Nathan are getting along. I know he wasn’t very happy about me working or living with a blood witch. You guys are the equivalent to the bogeyman to the werechildren.” He swiveled towards her in the chair. They sat on two old wheeled stools. Bored, they were twisting and turning on them, waiting for the new vampire to rise. Sometimes they didn’t at all; if the other vampire had been weak the body would just die.

“Sheesh, thanks for sharing. I already feel bad about what I am, but I get reminded daily on what a monster I am. So maybe I get a bit wild once in a while, it’s not like I go all furry once a month and crave fresh meat.” She sat in her own swivel chair, arms crossed, pouting. Earlier they had raced around the room. Now they were just bored, after getting caught making gloved balloon animals.
“Les, you know I don’t mean anything by it. I was just telling you.”

“Sure,” she said making a paper airplane with a discarded piece of paper she had found on the counter. She finished and let it glide. It dropped near the door, crumpling on the floor. The mortuary assistant walked in followed by two men who looked at each other, startled. Leslie felt her chest lurch as her eyes fell upon the shortest of the men.

“I’m sorry, I must have gotten the rooms mixed up,” the assistant said to the two men.

“Leslie,” Rich said, trying not to sound as surprised as his brown eyes were letting on. She noticed his dark brown hair not only had some grey, but was also thinning. He pushed his glasses up on his nose, a sign of nervousness, his weakness in the wereworld. Jonathan hated when Richard showed his nervousness around the wolves. You can find him scolding the witch every so often about it like he was a naughty child.

Out April 9th!!!

Catching up or trying...

This early part of the year has not been to nice to me. But I have a few days off from my day job so I am trying to start April on time and get caught up. So here is some of the blogging things I missed...

Talk about your favorite historical time period or event.
I am a history buff. I enjoy anything from ancient pagan civilizations to Victorian England. I love seeing how they lived their lives. So when it comes to the shows Vikings, Spartacus, Rome, and movies Like Elizabeth, and any Queen is general. I am a huge fan. Others that fit Braveheart, Rob Roy and so many others. I am also a video gamer and one of my favorite games is the God of War series. I LOVE ancient Greek/Roman and have a soft spot for the Percy Jackson books and movies.
Share a thought provoking quote and tell us why you chose it The best fortune cookie I received was Minds are like parachutes they only function when open. We live in societies where we still have closed minded people. We should be over all that. Rights to marriage, children, race, sex, even abortion. People have the right to be happy and be free to choose things for themselves. What is best for me? I will make that choice. But I was blessed with an open mind and I will not make choices for others, sometimes I might secretly question those decisions but it is not me to say anything.
Share a joke or comic and tell us why you picked it I will share a new comedian that I have discovered Jim Jefferies. I had seen his stand up on netflix at a friends house and he was pretty funny. Me and the hubs end up catching his new FX show Legit and we liked it so much that we have decided to get caught up with it which we have. It is funny. I highly recommend it.
Blog about honesty...is there a such thing as too honest? Honesty is a hard one to talk about. I have lived my life around dishonest people. But I have tried to learn from them and stay honest. Me and the hubs came into our relationship with honesty and it has works. I believe there is such a thing as too honest. I have never had to be so bluntly honest to destroy a life. But I think sometimes yes the truth hurts, but I know people who live their lives happy with the lies they spun around themselves, so deluded that when people points out honesty to them they totally swat it away.
As a writer I want people to be honest about what I give them to read. Hell I am not perfect, and neither is my writing. You should see what it looks like when I get it back from the editors. EEEK! I understand that I am possibly going to get a few people who dislike my stuff and I am okay with it. In honesty I want your honesty :oD  Okay I think I need to get to some actual writing...

New No Boundaries Press Releases

Two new releases from some great ladies!

Tis the Season to Get Burned -Jennifer Brown

Blurb:
Christmas time has arrived in Springwood…and so has a killer, bent on revenge.

The Barnes have seen tragedy…their parents’ death, rape, incarceration…and now, Tammy Cauley—their sister’s alter personality, who is also a murder suspect.

As the holiday season kicks off, Mayor Jacob Barnes is in the middle of planning the annual Christmas Festival, while his brother Justin, and sister Jen prepare to spend the holiday with their love interests—until one of them is found dead.

The discovery of birth control pills prescribed to Tammy Cauley adds to the mounting surprises as Jen’s trial date looms closer. It’s enough to get her case delayed, as further investigation reveals Tammy had an abortion before a women’s clinic in Springwood was shut down.

Becky Robinson, Jen’s best friend remains by her side through all of it, unaware of the plans Tammy has for her. When Jen disappears one night in Jacob’s car, authorities track it to a spot close to the book store that has agreed to host a book signing for Becky—which is on fire. Becky and Jen are both pulled from the blaze, Jen remaining in an unconscious state as Becky confesses Tammy is accusing her of plagiarism.

The Barnes spend Christmas together in the hospital, having no idea Tammy is the present personality pretending to be Jen. She is unable to fool Justin though, who urges her to keep acting as Jen, in hopes she will return. It’s not easy though, especially when a mysterious stranger visits her in the hospital, and she feels drawn to him despite the fact she is quite sure they have never met.

As New Year’s Eve arrives, everyone prepares to ring in the new year, no one having any clue exactly what it may bring, except for one person who has a plan to make sure those who crossed him get burned.

Snippet Sunday!!

I new snippet from yet another WIP hope you enjoy the tease!

Izzy closed her eyes. She had sensed the darkness as it came in the door. Blood, sex, frustration and anger, most of the Dark Warriors wore the smell as if it was their only skin. She righted herself in her chair, and knew who had come in before even looking. And he was walking straight for them. Dargan walked with a purpose; he had an air about him as if he owned everything and everyone in his path. Shoulder length black hair, made his skin luminous, which made his fall orange-brown eyes glow. And they did not glow with light and laughter, oh no his glowed with darkness and evil purposes.
He was followed by his close cronies. All wore black, to match the black hair and makeup they wore. They looked the part of the traditional vampire, but they were far worse than a mere half-breed. All of them except for one were all Warriors, and Dark Warriors at that. Dark Warriors lived on Human Blood.                All Warriors lived off blood, but the Light Warriors who still lived by the Goddess lived on animal blood. Dark Warriors defied the Goddess, and drank human blood since she valued them more than any other creature. Human blood had made the Dark Warriors mean and a bit insane throughout the years, and with each generation, it seemed to get worse.
Dargan stopped at their table. Izzy looked at her watch. “Well you’re up early,” she said seeing it was only two in the afternoon.
“I came to call you to the circle,” Dargan said. “I have talked to council you are expected in an hour.” He turned and left with his group.
Izzy stared after him. Her phone chirped, she numbly opened it and answered. “Trouble,” she said into it as her French accent came out as the others at the table stared at her.
Her fear bit into her, and she knew how he knew so fast, she had opened the tie to Vidal. “Dargan has made a blood challenge. Yes, in an hour.” She hung up, and looked around.
“It is okay to be frightened,” Jenny said.
“I would have wet myself,” Jimmy said.
“Plead to council,” Toby said taking her hands. “He has no reason to call you into challenge. Plead to council.”
“We should get going,” she said still in shock. She could feel other feelings, anger and more fear, which were not hers.

Sunday Snippet

Today's snippet is a short story from my Flights of Delusion. It is a kinda Irish story ;oD
First a little insight on the banshee (pron.: /ˈbænʃiː/ ban-shee), from Irish: bean sí [bʲæn ˈʃiː] ("woman of the sídhe" or "woman of the fairy mounds") is a female spirit in Irish mythology, usually seen as an omen of death and a messenger from the Otherworld.
In legend, a banshee is a fairy woman who begins to wail if someone is about to die. In Scottish Gaelic mythology she is known as the bean sìth or bean-nighe and is seen washing the blood-stained clothes or armour of those who are about to die. Alleged sightings of banshees have been reported as recently as 1948. Similar beings are also found in Welsh, Norse and American folklore.

The Crying Stranger
A luminous glow radiated around the silent figure. Her white skin untainted by the sun’s harsh touch, as her eyes twinkled like fiery green emeralds. Her straight, calf length auburn hair flowed around her like a red veil. Her naturally crimson lips moved as she sang to herself. The song seemed so right on this dark dreary night.

She walked through the darkness unafraid of anything around her. She had no worries. The millions of stars burned brightly above her small head. Her feet, bare amongst the new spring grass, made her feel almost alive. She stopped. Bending her head slightly to the left, she listened. The small night sounds were so crisp to her elfin ears. She listened through the sounds until she heard it. The call.

Turning, she let her feet guide her to the town of Naveret. It had been weeks since she had visited the small town, but knew the way in the pitch darkness that surrounded her. She quickened her pace. The foul smell hit her almost immediately after entering the town. Her small pointy nose wrinkled as she drew closer to the smell of death.

She stopped in front of a small, rickety cottage and looked inside the window. The thin pale curtains were open enough so she could peer inside. She saw the sick man dying in bed. His time had finally come, and the urge to cry made her vibrate where she stood.

A small hand touched her back. She turned. Her tattered, earth brown dress swirled around her. A small, brown haired child looked up at her with curious hazel eyes.

“You have come for papa?” she asked, with a small touch of sadness in her voice.

The stranger had forgotten children could see her. They still believed in fairy magic.

“I have,” she said, her voice sounded as any other human woman, yet she wasn’t.

“Will papa feel better?”

“Soon he will.” She didn’t lie; she always told the truth.

The child nodded. “I hate to see papa so sick. Can I talk to him before you cry?” The stranger felt a twinge of regret. Why had she been placed in this job? She was not as cruel as the folklores implied. She nodded, watching the child run inside. The stranger peered back into the dusty window. The child sat talking to her father, as her mother silently wept by the bedside. The feeling to cry came. She struggled to push it back down into the pit of her stomach.

The child stopped talking and looked at her through the window. She gave the stranger a small smile, but held her father’s hand. Forgive me, the stranger thought. Her mouth opened. A hum, so quiet at first, started and then grew and grew until it became a shrill, shriek that filled the night air. Large tears ran down her pale cheeks as she watched the child kiss her father’s lifeless hand. The cry, loud and piercing, continued on.

Finally, when she was sure his spirit had flown, she closed her mouth. The night became quiet again. She turned. Away from the window, away from the child. She walked silently but swiftly from the town. Another death needed to be announced. She hoped it would be of old age. Those were easy to deal with because their time was up. They knew it too and were ready to leave this world. It had always been the deaths of the sick or the young which affected her the most.

The stranger disappeared into the forest, her bare feet guiding her to the next town. She needed no map or light. Even the light her body gave off was not needed. The dying called. The long night weighed heavily on her as her melancholy cry sounded.
If you like this you can pick up my book Flights of Delusion. Short story book: horror/sci-fi/fantasy

AWOL!

Sorry I had a shit storm of family drama hit. I am almost ready to hide away in a cave for a few years. I would totally love a zombie apocalypse or just some form of apocalypse right now. Here is a quick recap of what I was supposed to do this past week. I'll make it short and easy ;)

What do you do to pass the time while waiting on a manuscript acceptance?
Write more! I try to anyway. I might play some video games, read or just veg out catching up on shows.

Have you ever had a rejection letter? If so, how did you feel? If not, how do you think you would feel?
I have a few. You know I should have been sad but they were never mean. They were just a we don't accept what you have to offer sorry. I never really pushed myself out there to much I did some years ago, but even then I knew I needed to do some more work. I think they make you really look for who would you like to actually help you and your book.

How much of your real life/experiences are in your books? Talk a little about why you use it or why you don't.
I use some people personalities that I know in real life. Some real life/experiences help give the characters a personality. Why do you want to know what color she likes? Or what kind of hobby they would spend their time on. I want to take as much experience I have and give these characters this plus more. I want them to be somewhat believable.

Share a little about your favorite character from a book you've written.
This is one of the hardest questions to answer. I love all my characters evenly. If I had to really choose it would be Autumn in Awaken the Elements coming out this year. She is magic and really wants to be normal. Me on the other hand I am normal and want to be magic.

What book have you written that isn't selling as well as you thought it would and why you like it and decided to write it.
Actually I think they are all doing WAY better then I thought they would.
