Just the Messenger by Ninette Swann

BLURB:
"When Graciela Merced fumbles a package she’s delivering for her mysterious and sexy boss, Gene Hardy, she finds out he’s more than just a wealthy photographer. Prepared to lose her job, she confronts him…and ends up embroiled in the tricky takedown of a powerful drug cartel pushing cocaine into the heart of New York City.
Marco Valencia is an undercover agent, working against time—and against Gene Hardy—to crack Angel’s Drug Cartel before the story makes it to the press. When Hardy’s luscious Venezuelan messenger literally falls at his feet, he has no idea just how well he’ll get to know the beauty or how difficult it will be to drop her.
Hardened by experience, Gene Hardy takes his undercover work seriously, and charges a hefty price. When Grace makes a careless mistake and hurls him back into the visage of Marco Valencia, he must either fire her, or involve her in a twisted plot that could kill them all.
As the two men battle over their feelings for Graciela—and their attraction to each other—one thing becomes perfectly clear.
Grace is much more than just the messenger."

Writing this month...

This month I need to finish my zombie book and I might get some edits back so I want to make sure I have time to spend on those. I have a few shorts I want to write. I also need to come up with an idea for a Christmas short for an anthology. HMMMM. March has started spring is almost here. So as it warms up I might be able to shake off some winter funk and get on the ball.

Snippet Sunday

Sorry guys I have been so busy with my day job I haven't had time to keep up. But I can tell you I am back and ready to roll this month. I have am hosting a blog tour for Dakota Trace, I have a blog hop coming up and possible book news soon too!!

So today I have a snippet from my WIP it is a zombie story. I love me some zombies. What I love more is the world after a zombie outbreak. I mean we are all human and when there are just a few survivors left what will happen? Here is a little tease.

“You can’t be serious we have to fix that,” Dan said.
Ted shook his head. “Different world new laws. Let’s just try to stay away from them.”
“If that was me in that tree would you just leave me?” Dan asked.
“Depends I might be up there with you two,” Ted said.
“Come on Dan,” one of the other guys shouted.
“Fuck this,” Dan said and pulled out his 22. He precisely shot each in the head. He got back into the truck with Ted shaking his head and scanning the area for zombies.
“What did you do before everything went to hell?” Dirk asked Dan.
“I was a killer. Trained by the government to kill bad guys.”
“Oh, you see Afghanistan?”
“Afghanistan and Desert Storm and a few all around those. There were wars they never talked about.”
“Dude if you get him started he’ll tell you how he took out Osama Bin Laden,” Al whispered to Dirk.
“And maybe he did,” Ted said.
“What happened?” Dirk said.
“They retired me,” Dan said looking back at the bodies hanging in the tree.
Dirk looked at Al who touched his nostril pretending to snort something. Dirk understood that. He had sold a lot of hard shit on the streets starting when he was sixteen mostly to help feed his sisters. His mom tried to snag her one alcoholic bastard after another, so someone had to look after the girls. He didn’t do a very good job of it. One had gotten aids from one of her johns she died early the other went to prison after killing the latest step daddy. He tried to crawl in bed with her and she stabbed him repeatedly. She was killed in prison six months later. He shook his head and the bad memories away.
“You okay?” Al asked him.
“Yeah,” Dirk said as they entered the town.
They were on look out. They saw nothing. No deaders no people. The trucks slowly rolled through the town. They stopped at a grocery store. Ted motioned for half the team to keep watch outside as he led a team inside. Dirk went along inside. Inside they found the place picked clean.
“Damnit,” Ted said as he looked around at the empty shelves. “Let’s get the hell out of this place and get back home. There is nothing left out here for us.”
“Uh boss,” Dan said sticking his head inside the store for them.
“We are coming out,” he said.
“You really need to come out here now,” Dan said voice a little off key. Unlike him to get jumpy, Ted walked outside and heard it. It sounded like children laughing.
“Do you think it is some kind of recording?” Al asked.
“I think it is real laughter,” Dan whispered.
“No way,” Al replied. “How?”
“Lets go find out,” Ted said. He led them down a few different streets until they got closer to the laughter. They stopped at the gated fence where children were playing with something chained to the fence.
“What the fuck?” Dirk said as he watched the chained zombie reach for the three children. One of the kids shot him with a paintball gun and the three would giggle.
“Hey there,” Ted called out to them.
They looked over at the group of men with guns and screamed. They ran off disappearing behind a building.
“Well now that was rather rude,” he said.
A few minutes went by and a few men dressed in ragged clothing came out holding their own guns. “Hey there,” one of the men said. “Why you going around scaring little kids.”
“We didn’t mean too. I just said hey.”

If you can have any character...

This is a very hard questions. I would like a house elf, to help out around the house. I have a husband so having a male character wouldn't work out very well. I think if I had to choose I would go with R2D2 why? Because who wouldn't want the most awesome robot ever just hanging about. Doing little jobs. So speaking about Star Wars I'm following all the news about Eps 7-9 and the small side movies Disney has planned to bring out. Yes Disney is going to milk it for all it has but it is Star Wars and well I think it is now Time of the Nerd. The redo of Star Trek went over real well so lets have some non Lucas Star Wars.

Again traveling into Nerd my IT guy at work suggested I check out http://goldengateknights.com a group of fencing teachers created a Jedi Training class in San Francisco. It looks fun! I wish they would open one closer down here. I really can't travel 5 hours to attend a class. One day right.

Well so here is my questions for you. If you could have any book character who would it be? And which is your favorite Star Wars movie? Mine is The Empire Strikes Back. :oD

Nanowrimo

Have you participated in NANOWRIMO? Last year was the first time I actually won! I have attempted to try over the past couple years and life stuff got in the way. New job the year before, before that we had a a death in the family and the year before that one my husband was super sick and had to have surgery. So when I completed this year I was super excited. I finished 6 days early and finished the draft to Playing with Elements the second book to my Element Trilogy. I have to go through and do one last read through and flesh it out but I was waiting for a while so I can give it the love it needs. So how many have you participated in NANO? And how many are planning on doing it again this year?

Knocking Down Heaven's Door Blitz!

Blurb: Remember when everyone else thought they knew you? Remember when everyone else thought they knew better?
Layla’s a small-town teen trying to be herself and is misinterpreted at every turn. She’s not popular  because her dad’s a minister and her interests never seem to match those around her. She’s learned to keep to herself and her music – big mistake. When her love of classic rock makes her parents wonder if she’s “getting ideas” she finds herself shipped off to church camp. There she’s faced with horrible food and her day is planned out by the millisecond. To make matters worse her bunkmate is the cheery, tow-the-line sort and Donna, her nemesis, is at the same camp and is determined to make things hard for her. The only thing Layla has left to cling to is her music, but when her interests and character are challenged will her faith in herself and her shaky trust in something more be strong enough to see her through?

Highlander Mine Tour!

Thanks so much for allowing me to snag a spot on your blog for a little overtaking with some Highlander yumminess.
I hope you’ll join me…along with Breandan, Auralee and their friends on their journey.  Take a look below for a special excerpt.
Blurb:Season 1 - Episode 7
We've been keeping an eye on Breandan & Auralee, but what about Trystan in current times? What effect is Auralee not returning home having on him?Drostan shares some much needed words with Breandan. After confronting Tor yet again, Breandan makes a shocking decision.

Excerpt:                                 As Breandan and his friends made their way to the hall, he instantly saw Tor and Auralee sitting by the fire. They were talking and laughing. Happy. It should be him with her. Instant rage took over.                “Breandan,” Drostan placed a hand on his shoulder. “Ye cannae run yer brother through and ye ken it. This is yer fault, not his or hers.”                “Now I want to run ye through with my sword as well. It’s no my fault. Auralee’s impossible. Besides, we barely speak, yet she has laughs and giggles for him.”                “Love doesnae need words. It’s clear in the way the two of ye look at each other. Sometimes ‘tis just the way of it.” Drostan shrugged.                “Ye’ll both be sorry if ye dunnae come to yer senses. Tor would be good to her, but they aren’t the match that was to have been made.” Caelan said as he watched Tor and Auralee almost as intently as Breandan did.                Drostan shook his head. “Have ye even tried speaking to the lass?” Breandan went to speak and Drostan hushed him with a raise of his hand. “Nay, ye need to hear me well. Ye blame everyone around ye for what happens between the two of ye. I’ve never known ye to pass blame. Ye’ve always accepted things and fixed what ye could.” Drostan saw more rage begin to fill Breandan’s eyes and decided to get back on topic. “Ahh, anyway, have ye ever really talked to her? I mean really. Not when ye’re trying to force her to marry ye or walking her to her room to see to it that no one else might be tempted to join her there. Do ye ken? What is her favorite flower? Her favorite color? Favorite food? Of the dresses she has, which does she cherish the most? Does she have a favorite fabric? Drostan paused to study the lost look on his friends face and had to stop himself from laughing. His friend was blessed with a gift of battle and leading, but had no knowledge at all when it came to love or any matters of the heart that might involve affection. Letting out a sigh, he continued. “Exactly as I thought. And ye know what? I’d bet me best sword Tor could tell you each.”                “Then Tor should start wearing skirts. It’s woman’s talk. What do we care of flowers and fabric? Food? Eat it for nourishment and go on. Ye do not have to like it or have a favorite. It simply serves a purpose.” Breandan felt his control slipping away with each word he spoke.                “Breandan, ye have much to learn of love. I do hope ye see the way of it before it’s too late.”                Deciding not to murder his best friend just yet, Breandan made his way over to the soon to be married pair.

Fantasy Vacations

If I could pick any vacation it would be to tour the castles of Ireland and Scotland. I would love to stay overnight in one. I have always been drawn to castles and their histories. But Ireland would also have me visting the Blarney Stone at the Blarney castle and also checking out the Ring of Kerry. I would love to visit an original Irish Pub. Ireland has a history of heartache and triumphs and I would just like to explore it.
