New Release from Trice Hickman Looking For Trouble

Trice

Trice Hickman’s love affair with books began at a very early age, setting the backdrop for her writing career. As a student, Trice excelled in literature and creative writing. She attended Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), where she wrote for the school newspaper, and was an intern writer for the Winston-Salem Chronicle and UNC Public Television. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from WSSU, she worked for several years in higher education. During that time she also obtained her Master of Arts degree from Wake Forest University.

Trice worked in a variety of industries and management positions, from the corporate halls of a multi-billion dollar telecommunications company, to the diverse pathways of a private community development corporation, to the management of law programs for an international legal association in the Nation’s Capital. All the while, she continued her love of books and her dream to some day write one of her own.

Trice’s literary window opened with the release of her critically acclaimed, self-published debut novel, Unexpected Interruptions, November 2007. The book garnered praise from literary reviewers, book clubs, and readers across the country and overseas, won two literary awards, and was selected by Black Expressions as the December 2008 Editor’s Pick for Dynamic Debut Feature. Trice’s much anticipated sequel, Keeping Secrets & Telling Lies, was released June 2009, and quickly became a hit with book clubs and readers. Her third book, Playing the Hand You’re Dealt, was released August 2010, and made the list of “The Top 15 Books That Mattered In 2010” by AOL BlackVoices. Trice also received the 2010 D.C. Ward-4 Exceptional Women In The Arts Award for outstanding work in the field of literary arts.

Upon Trice’s literary success, Kensington Publishing Corp. offered her a contract to buy the publication rights to her three originally self-published novels. Kensington’s imprint, Dafina Books, re-released the novels for world wide distribution. After its re-release, Unexpected Interruptions received a coveted Starred Review from Publishers Weekly and was nominated by the American Library Association for their 2012 “The Reading List.”

Trice has signed another three-book deal with Kensington. Her fourth novel, Breaking All My Rules, was released February 2013, and Looking For Trouble, will be released in October 2013. She lives in Washington, DC, and is currently working on her sixth novel.

Examine Your Faith! Finding Truth in a World of Lies

Examine Your Faith! Finding Truth in a World of Lies

What do you hope readers will gain from your book?

Examine Your Faith! Finding Truth in a World of Lies, takes readers through an inductive process to honestly reconsider what they believe and why they believe it. My goal is for them to intentionally arrive at a confident faith conviction. Since what we believe to be true, dictates every decision we make in life and as most believe, has direct bearing on our eternal life, it is extremely important to have a confident faith conviction.

Why do you think people need help in having a confident faith conviction?

I’ve been speaking and teaching on the matter of faith for over twenty years. In my experience I’ve learned that what most people refer to as faith is really wishful thinking or a hope which is far different from a confident faith conviction. People have been influenced by a culture of political correctness and many other popular notions that have actually served to erode true faith.

In starting to write my book I used the most popular search engines to locate two different highest ranking online dictionaries. Looking up the definition of the words truth and faith, I discovered that both these dictionaries had it wrong. With the popular definitions of these two core words being off the mark, it’s evidence that as a culture we are too.

How do you help people examine what they believe and why?

By systematically considering absolute truth against the claim that truth is relative, by exploring religious pluralism, (the believe that all roads lead to the same God and heaven) and the various major world religions (Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity) and New Age, readers can more confidently determine what religious belief is truly worthy of their faith. Many people hold ideals, values and philosophies that have never been held up to the test of scrutiny. This means a person could easily believe something to be true that in reality isn’t. No one wants to live their life on the basis of a lie. Yet, I assert that unless we intentionally examine what we believe and why we believe it, we could be deceived and not know it. It is, after all, the very nature of deception that the victim is unaware.

Pam christian and Josh mcdowell

What has been your personal life experiences that allow you to offer the insights that you do in your book?

I was raised to have the freedom to explore religious faith on my own, with very little input from my parents. Without realizing it, I adopted various points of view that I thought were sound and also consistent with Christian beliefs. Had it not been for a significant life crisis, (which I share in my book), that caused me to question everything I had ever believed true, I would still be living in deception today.

Having started my journey for truth and faith more than twenty years ago, I’ve had many years teaching, writing, broadcasting and more on this. My interest to learn more led me to enroll in Biola University’s course in Christian apologetics in 2003 from which I have a certificate of completion.

As a public speaker one of the first questions I ask my audience is “Who in this room wants to live your life on the basis of a lie?” No one ever raises their hand to that question, which is very revealing. It means that universally we prefer truth over deception and that we then view truth as “good” and lies as “bad.” Yet, without a deliberate, and I’ll add courageous, effort to examine what we believe and why, we could be basing our life—our eternal life—on lies. I don’t want people to come to a major life crisis, when they need their faith to be in tact, only to find out as I did, that it is faulty. The way I explain it is to say that faith is a lot like automobile insurance. You must have it firmly in place before there’s a need for it.

What makes your book distinctive from other books that cover the same topics?

My book is written in an inductive fashion. I disclose up front that I have taken the same journey I seek to take my readers through and I have concluded that Christianity is the religious faith that I can wholly accept. However, it is not my goal to tell people what to think. Rather I help them use their own intellect through the process of logic and reason to conclude for him or her self. I write with genuine compassion and respect for the reader because I know first hand, that embarking on this journey is not easy—but it is so necessary.

To help my readers begin the journey I explain that well-meaning people want to believe that all religions are equal and all roads lead to the same God and heaven. Then I point out that simply claiming a matter to be true, does not make it so. The first issue to resolve is an understanding about what truth is, so I tackle that at the start.

Then, I explore religious tolerance as it is expressed today. Once upon a time religious tolerance meant accepting people of different religious world views. Today however, it is far from that. In our post-modern culture we have individuals selecting various tenets of different religious beliefs to create their own “faith,” according to personal subjective preferences. I want my readers to truly consider any merits or detriments of this manner of “acquiring faith.”

Then by providing a general overview of the five major world religions and New Age, I want the reader to conclude on the matter of religious pluralism. I have devoted entire chapters to explain, in an overview fashion, the basic tenets of each of the world’s religions and New Age so that people can compare and contrast and arrive at a personally satisfying conclusion concerning faith. This is not a book that tells people what to think. Rather it’s a book that presents the facts so that the reader can conclude with a confident faith conviction.

I will add that it takes courage to intentionally examine what you believe and why. There are many people whom we love and respect who have helped us shape our faith. To question our faith can feel like we are betraying these individuals. But since most people believe that the human soul and spirit are eternal, the ramifications of not examining our faith outweigh the temporary discomfort. There will be those who read my book and conclude that their faith is in tact, which will serve to strengthen their faith conviction and hopefully embolden then to share their faith with others. Conversely, I already know of many who have read my book and discovered answers to questions they’ve never secured before that have altered their faith conviction.

Give us two or three insights from the book that would be helpful to Christians.

While this book is excellent for religious skeptics and seekers, Christians can gain a great deal from the book. Christians are commanded by Jesus to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that Christ has commanded. This is referred to as the Great Commission.

Yet, precious few are able to sufficiently and effectively share their faith. Many are tripped up with the first question, “What is truth?” Others are convoluting their faith—actually rendering it impotent with the collection of popular ideals under the banners of tolerance and political correctness. This reality means that greater numbers than ever are not only improperly informed, but have their eternal life at risk. Each individual Christian has the mandate of the Great Commission. It is my hopes that this book will better equip Christians to do what we’re called to do.

What has the response been to the book so far?

Well, to start, the fact that Josh McDowell, Dr. Craig Hazen and Dan Story, among others have endorsed it means a great deal to me! Their response has encouraged me to expand this book project. Examine Your Faith, Finding Truth in a World of Lies, is therefore the first in a three-book series. It will be followed by a book explaining effective faith then one that leads a person to excellent faith. It could be said that the series is about faith, hope and love.

I have been exceedingly gratified at the response I’ve received from readers. It was important for me to write a book that expresses loving compassion. And while I use apologetics, (systematic approach to defending the truth), this book is not written in an academic fashion. Rather it is very personal. That’s not to say that the book is void of any mental challenges! There are those. But anything worthy of our faith deserves to be seriously considered. So the fact that people have commented on the loving tone of the book is rewarding.

I especially liked what one reader suggested, which was to remove the endorsement pages before giving the book to a non-Christian, skeptic or seeker. The endorsers have read the entire book and many express their conclusion in their endorsement. It was my goal to offer a good, inductive resource to guide people, to arrive at a satisfying conclusion about their personal religious faith. So I concur, tear out the endorsements as needed and give the book out to everyone you want to discover truth!

How are you promoting your book and where can your book be purchased?

Certainly fun virtual parties like this book blog tour is one way I’m promoting it. And I can’t thank Diane Estrella and you enough for this! We have contests and prizes associated with this blog tour. I also have a longer running contest from my web site and Rafflecopter on my Facebook page where depending on the number of books sold through my web site the grand prize could be $250.00 cash. No purchase is necessary to win (but it helps the prize structure!) Only subscribers to my bi-monthly ENewsletter or my blog are eligible.

I also have a great book trailer viewable on my home page that I encourage people to tweet and about and Like and share. And of course I’m using social media too with Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. And I really enjoy the interaction on sites like Good Reads and Book Fun.

Until October 15, 2013 the best price to get the soft cover is from my web store. It’s priced lower than Amazon or Barnes and Noble. But after that, my readers will still get unique value from me with special promotional materials and preferential treatment. The holidays are right around the corner for many people. Perhaps the gift of this book will change lives. I certainly hope and pray so.

Unless you make an intentional effort to examine what you believe and why you believe it, it’s quite possible you are living your life on the basis of a lie, and don’t know it.

• What is truth?

• Is it relative or absolute?

• Is it personal or universal?

• What are the differences among the various religious faiths? Can they be blended?

• Are we creating faith—a belief system—that is impotent by trying to accept all religions as equal?

AND NOW…THE FIRST CHAPTER:

Come home.

Karen Marino choked back a cry as she stared at the words scribbled on the front of the envelope. She slid her fingernail under the flap and gaped at the plane ticket nestled inside a letter. Why now? She gritted her teeth. Heat flushed from her neck to the top of her head as she remembered the look of disgust on her father’s face.

The clash of pans in the restaurant kitchen startled her back to the present. “What the…?”

She glanced at her watch. Almost eleven. She slid the ticket and letter back inside the envelope and tucked it into her purse. She took a deep breath before stepping out of her office.

“Steve, how does the schedule look?” Karen hired him straight out of culinary school. His lack of experience paled next to his talent, and within a year his specialties had drawn in customers from all over New York City’s five boroughs, earning the restaurant a five-star reputation.

“Perfect, my love.” He crossed his arms and smiled. “Now, when are you going to marry me?”

She laughed. “Your mother would be disappointed. I have more red hair than Irish blood.” She enjoyed the attention her hair brought in The City, where she no longer stood out like an apple on an orange tree.

“My ma would love you anyway.” Steve placed his hand over his heart.

She shook her head and waved him back to work, then strode through the kitchen inspecting the line cooks as they prepped for the noon rush. “Be sure and clean up as you go….No, not that dish. Use the glass one. And keep a towel nearby.…How long have you worked here?…Don’t wipe your hands on your apron.”

She stopped. “Jimmy,” she yelled above the din of the kitchen. Her voice carried to the break room where the young man sauntered out with a donut in one hand and a coffee cup in the other.

“Yeah?”

She glared at him. “What’s with all these dirty pots and pans?”

The guy shrugged. “Had somewhere to be last night, so I saved them.”

“Get rid of that donut now and finish your job in the next half hour, or you’re fired, no matter who your cousin is.”

He threw the donut and coffee in the trash can and plodded off to his station.

“Karen.”

“What!”

“You okay?” Her assistant manager, Cathy, raised an eyebrow.

“Sorry, didn’t mean to snap.” Karen took a deep breath. “Is the dining room ready?”

“No problems there. But…” Cathy glanced over her shoulder. “Barry’s at the bar.”

“Not with the new owner coming in.” Karen clenched her fists. If she talked to her husband now she would lose her cool. “Did you tell him I was busy?”

“Yes. But, he’s got that look.”

Karen rolled her eyes. That meant another of Barry’s money-making ideas. Ideas didn’t pay the rent. “I better go talk to him.”

Barry grinned as she approached and she paused at the sight of his dark wavy hair and strong jaw line. If life were a photo, he would take her breath away. But once you added sound and action, that fantasy vanished.

She bit her lip. A part of her longed for what they used to have. How does a man change so much? He used to lead people. Now he controlled them, like the other night. Karen shuddered, then closed the gap between them. “We’re about to open. You need to go. We can talk tonight.”

“Like all those other times? Please.” He leaned against the bar.

“I said, we’ll talk.”

Barry slid off the bar stool. Although he stood only a few inches taller than her five foot seven frame and didn’t work out enough to have an impressive build, he carried himself with a bravado that demanded attention. “We’ll talk now. You’ll like this idea. It’s a chance to get in on the ground floor of a start-up company.”

Karen caught a whiff of liquor on his breath. “A little early to be drinking, don’t you think?”

“Don’t change the subject.” He banged his fist on the bar.

She jumped. His eyes grew dark. She backed away, her eyes frozen on his hands. “You need to leave. Now.”

“Why?” Barry’s voice grew louder.

“So I won’t lose my job.” The new owner was a powerful man. Barry could blow it for her.

“Miss Indispensable? Lose her job?” His empty laugh bounced around the deserted room.

“Please.” Karen reigned in her hostility.

“I will do as I please.” He took a step toward her.

“If you hope to get your hands on my money, try honey not vinegar.” She crossed her arms and stared at him.

“What are you talking about?”

“This approach will not get you what you want.”

He looked behind her and backed away. “Yeah, maybe we should talk tonight.”

Karen wrinkled her brow. What’s got into him now? She turned. The new owner walked toward her. He reminded her of Danny Devito. Short, stout, and balding. Add a bit of swagger to his walk and you would have her new boss. She groaned. Glancing Barry’s direction she saw him leave through the kitchen. I hope he didn’t just cost me my job.

She turned to face the man. She mustered a smile and extended her hand. “Karen Marino. You must be Mr. Simon.”

The man stared at her. “You’re fired.” He smiled like a kid who just lifted a trinket from the store and got away with it.

“You can’t do that.” Her throat closed up. Breathe.

“I own this place, I can and will clean house as I see fit.”

His reputation was well earned. She forced herself to unclench her hands. “I built this restaurant into what it is today.”

“There’s no place in any of my restaurants for what I just witnessed. Home stays at home.”

“You’d get rid of me for one incident?”

“It’s not just one incident.”

She bit her tongue and glared at the man. Who talked?

“Leave now. Come back and clear out your desk after lunch.”

“Fine, I don’t need you or your restaurant. I have my reputation.” She regretted the words as soon as she said them.

“When I’m done, you won’t have a reputation.”

She turned and fled to her office. A man that powerful didn’t make idle threats. She grabbed her purse, squared her shoulders, and marched through the kitchen. She would not be shamed out of here. She did nothing wrong.

Her assistant manager barked orders at the staff. The new owner smiled while he watched. So Cathy betrayed me. An old pain grabbed at Karen’s heart. Why do people turn on me?

Letting the door slam on her way out, she rushed into the flow of human traffic. The wall of buildings hid the breadth of the sky and pressed in around her. Exhaust fumes mingled with the aroma of pizza from a nearby kiosk. She jumped when a taxi blared its horn. Two people shoved each other to get in, arguing over appointments. She picked up her pace, needing to escape the surroundings that for the last fifteen years had made her feel so alive. An image of the family orchard in Missouri filled her heart.

Her past caught up to her present and the old emotions, released from their prison, pinballed around inside her. She ducked into a nearby alley and leaned against the wall. Pressing her hands against the wall, she took several calming breaths against the tears welling up in her chest. She needed to think, not cry.

She pressed her fingertips against her eyes. I don’t want to go back to the apartment yet, and I don’t have an office anymore. Where can I go? She fought the desire to throw things and stomp her feet. She would not lose control.

Something brushed against her elbow and she jerked away. A pungent odor assaulted her nose as a man in a tattered jacket stepped closer.

“Some money for food?” He reached out his hands.

She pushed the man away and tucked her purse close to her body as she stumbled out of the alley and hurried away. Her thoughts latched onto her husband and the impossibility of the situation. Lost in a daze she walked several blocks before her stomach growled, reminding her of the time. She paused and looked around. Carnegie Deli looked like a good choice. Crossing the street, she stood in line for her turn, anxious for the line to move, yet longing for a slower pace.

Pressure built up in her right eye and tension grew between her shoulders. She dug through her purse for some pain reliever and popped two in her mouth.

“Next.”

She looked up at the man behind the counter. “Uh, I’m not sure, what—”

“I’ll take a Woody Allen and a coffee.” A construction worker shouldered his way past Karen, slapping some bills on the counter.

Karen glared at him, then raised her voice above the next person trying to steal her place in line. “Give me a Woody Allen, too.”

Within minutes her order sat next to the construction worker’s sandwich. She grabbed her plate and cup of coffee, and turned to find a seat in the crowded dining room. From across the room, she saw two women get up from their table. She rushed to grab one of the empty chair.

She settled in to her seat and thought of the first time she came here. She was on a blind date, and he wanted to share his favorite place to eat. Crowded elbow to elbow with strangers at the shared table, it was not exactly romantic, but the food was delicious and plentiful. Her sandwich was piled so high with meat she ate for several days off of the leftovers.

Now, the deli gave her the anonymity she needed.

Cradling the coffee mug in her hands, she allowed the heat to calm her nerves. The day had not gone the way she planned. Lately, not much had. She rubbed her temples then scooted her plate forward to make room for her note pad. Avoiding the glares of her table mates, she pulled out a pen and began to list her options.

Find a job. In this economy? Right.

Barry find a job. She laughed.

Dip into her savings. She ripped the paper off the pad and wadded it up. Not again. That money was for the future.

Her head pounded as she fought back the tears. Barry’s scheme might be all they had. Maybe not.

She reached into her pocket and pulled out the letter. Karen remembered how special it felt to be a daughter of Charles and Annibel Hannigan. They were well respected in the community and at church, and then everything changed.

What’s so important that they want me to come home now? She laid the ticket aside and unfolded the letter.

Dear Karen,

Please come home. Your mother is dying and she needs to see you. She needs to know you understand. You need to hear what she has to say.

We are both sorry for the past and ask your forgiveness. I’ve enclosed a plane ticket. Change the date to what works best.

Love, Dad

Her hands trembled as she held the letter. Mom’s dying?

She laid the letter down and leaned her head onto her hands. She lost their favor with no explanation, and now they offered it to her again on a silver platter. It felt fake. What had she done to lose their favor in the first place? She wiped at tears she couldn’t stop. Did they think an apology could make up for everything?

“Hey lady, if you’re done, why don’t you move on. There’s folks waiting for a seat.”

Looking the bus boy directly in the eye, she reached for her sandwich and took a bite. He waved at her in dismissal and went back to work.

She glanced out the window as a mother bent down to look her child in the eye. She pointed at a large bulldozer across the street. The little boy smiled, looked back at her and nodded. They hugged. She grabbed his hand and continued walking.

She and her mother used to have a relationship like that. Carrying on like they were the only two people in the world. She looked away. Maybe going home wasn’t a viable option either.

She bit her lip. Am I supposed to just forgive them? How could they ask that of her? She hit the table with her fist and the coffee mug jumped, spilling onto the letter.

“Hey, watch it!” The man next to her grabbed his paper and picked it up ahead of the offending liquid.

“Sorry.” She grabbed some napkins and sopped up the mess. Blowing out a hard breath and tapping her fingers on the table, she checked her phone for the time before dialing her best friend.

Megan and Robert Fletcher reserved a table every Tuesday night at the restaurant Karen managed. Over time she became friends with Megan despite her penchant for religion. She always listened and gave good feedback.

And she’s the only person I trust.

Karen wouldn’t get the same attentive ear once Megan and Robert had their baby. The call went straight to voice mail, so she left a message. Megan must be at the women’s shelter she managed.

Karen picked up the letter and airline ticket and stuffed them in her purse. A walk might help her think better. Catching the waitress’ attention, she asked for a to-go bag.

Back on the street, her mind quickly turned to what her lack of employment meant for her life. Stay in New York and try to find another job without a reference. Give Barry’s scheme a chance. Or go home.

She cringed at all of those options. Like it or not, she had to consider them or maybe…her steps faltered as she did some quick mental calculations.

It would be risky and Barry wouldn’t like it, but she didn’t care. She quickened her step. She needed to stop by the bank.

book cover

My current title The Sanctuary, a Christian Fiction Novel is about a couple who are the pastors of The Sanctuary, nested in the beautiful Bay Area of San Francisco, Ca. Cedric and Lacey Jones, as a couple who love God and as they try to lead a growing and thriving church, personal issues have now invaded their home and ministry. Bishop Cedric Marcel Jones, although known to be a charismatic preacher behind the pulpit, has some internal demons that he must conquer if he is to remain the leader at The Sanctuary. First Lady Lacey Carmell Jones has been hiding behind the shadows of her husband, the flamboyant Bishop Cedric Marcel Jones. Not desiring to be in the spotlight, she is comfortable and content supporting her husband as he builds his ministry. She accepts her minor role at The Sanctuary as the Women’s Ministry Leader; but she has other gifts and talents that lie dormant, and are yet to be seen by her congregation and husband. How does Lacey learn to maneuver her way around what is facing her dead on, and find hope, restoration, and joy once again?

Where did you get the inspiration for this book?

As an inspirational and fiction writer, I write to inspire and empower readers. I write because I feel I have message to share with readers not only to entertain readers but to help them grow spiritually. I love to mix real life stories into my fiction. Although each story is unique, we experience some of the same feelings, situations and challenges in life in which the reader can identity. With the ability to craft fiction books, it gives me the opportunity to live through each character.

What else are you working on?

I’ve just finished my first Christian Fiction, Novella “Living Separate Lives.” Which will be released on Nov 5, 2013. Four Friends, One Secret and The Weekend That Changed Their Destiny

Candace Walker, Kaylan Smith, Jordan Tate, and Tiffany Thomas have their share of sorrows, but neither of them realizes how deep the sorrow goes. What happens when they agree to meet for a weekend of relaxation in beautiful Napa County? Which one will leave the same or worse?

For Candace Walker, life has left her battered and bruised. Kaylan Smith has struggled with prejudice from her in-laws. After fifteen years of marriage, bitterness is trying to raise its ugly head for Jordan Tate, whose husband wants to call it quits. And for Tiffany Thomas, dealing with rejection has never been one of her greatest feats. Although they have been friends for years, they thought they knew each other well. But will a secret destroy their relationship and bring the sisterhood to a complete halt? Will they be able to forgive and allow God to mend that which might be torn?

Who reads the drafts of your novels?

I have a great writing coach and editor who just happen to be my oldest daughter Felecia. She owns and operates LiyahAmore Publishing: http://liyahamore.weebly.com/index.html. Just when I think I’m done, she pulls more out of me. When I decided to write my first fiction book, I could go to no other person to help develop my skills and cause me to grow as a writer.

What is your favorite snack while writing? Shhhh! I have to admit, I have a sweet tooth for Red Hot Tamales. Pop a few of them in my mouth and I’m all good.

New Book Release A Christian Christmas with Author Pat Simmons

A CHRISTIAN CHRISTMAS

book cover pat simmons

About The Book

Christmas will never be the same for Joy Knight if Christian Andersen has his way. Christian and his family are busier than Santa’s elves making sure the Lord’s blessings are distributed to those less fortunate by Christmas Day.Joy is playing the hand that life dealt her, rearing four children in a home that is on the brink of foreclosure. She’s not looking for a handout, but when Christian rescues her in the checkout line; her niece thinks Christian is an angel. Although Christian is a servant of the Lord, he is a flesh and blood man and all he wants for Christmas is Joy Knight. Can time spent with Christian turn Joy’s attention from her financial woes to the real meaning of Christmas—and true love?

Excerpt

Joyce “Joy” Knight juggled her purchases as she moved forward in the checkout line in Kohl’s department store. Armed with her coupons and cash, Joy had gotten everything on her list plus a few extras. Hopefully, the small toys she snagged for Christmas gifts wouldn’t put that much of a dent into her grocery money. I should have started Christmas shopping earlier in the year instead of waiting until November, she thought. Her credit card was deemed untouchable by the balance inching toward the max.

Her small shopping cart seemed like a bottomless pit as she placed training pants, clothes, shoes, housewares and the few toys on the conveyor belt. The clerk scanned each purchase with ease, but Joy began to worry as she watched the cash register display. She had mentally calculated her total. Something was wrong. They had to honor the advertised specials, didn’t they?

“That will be one-hundred twenty-seven dollars and thirteen cents,” the young cashier stated as she stretched the plastic bag with the last of three stuffed animals.

No. There was no way I could be off twenty-one dollars with tax. No way. Joy dared a glance over her shoulder and groaned. She hated when a patron held other customers in line hostage for petty stuff. Cringing, Joy exhaled because she was about to become that culprit. If she didn’t question a few prices, then the cashier would have to start removing some of her purchases.

While she is still working in her family business, this has enabled her to share her sense of humor as well as love for history and culture with the audience she adores. Roman lives on Long Island with her husband and near her children.

My thoughts:

What a great way to introduce children to other nations. The book was well written and the illustrations were done quite well. I believe children as well as parents will love this book. It brings the reader into a place of experiencing Norway right from their own homes. This book is a excellent read for those wanting more knowledge about another nation.
