My life is marked by one big bright neon line down the center, showing a clear before and after. For twenty-seven years, I lived without Christ, and everything was colored by the things of this world. Growing up in Prince George’s County, Maryland, raised by divorced parents, black, female, college and law school-educated—all of it and more informed my opinions, decisions, attitudes, and actions.
All of it gave me a ground-level perspective.
But in my mid-20s, God, in His lovingkindness, began to draw me—by dragging me halfway across the country from the D.C. area to Madison, Wisconsin. Away from friends, family, and the diversity I’d always known, I was miserable. I cried out to God . . . the God I’d heard about in Catholic grade school. Didn’t they say He could perform miracles? Then surely He could get me out of there!
God did perform a miracle, but not in the way I sought. He didn’t get me out of Madison. He changed me forever in Madison. He saved me, raised me, and seated me in heavenly places. Suddenly I had an aerial view. The bright neon line was drawn, and my “after” would begin.
But I didn’t understand any of that at first. I had no idea God would change everything about my world. With broad brushstrokes, He began to paint over my perspective as I grew to know Him and His Word. We did eventually leave Madison. We moved to Dallas, then St. Louis, where we’ve lived for ten years. But as the seasons of our lives shift, that same “coloring” process continues.
I haven’t had a single day yet where something about my perspective didn’t need adjusting. As a wife of nineteen years and mom of two teens, I don’t have to look far to find a challenge, struggle, or worry. Add the other hats I wear and, well, you can probably identify.
But no matter the issue, when I color my perspective in Christ, things change. I find hope, peace, and joy. I find eternal wisdom. I find truth.

God Restores Lost Slippers and Fearful Souls Guest Post by Lorilyn Roberts
God Restores Lost Slippers and Fearful Souls
Guest Post by Lorilyn Roberts
I will search for the lost
Ezekiel 34:16
Before my mother remarried, she wanted to give Gene, her new husband to be, a special gift as a token of her love, but Mother was never known for her creativity. Even a mockingbird would have had a hard time imitating her off-key singing. A poetic piece about her Prince Charming would have been a comedy at best. A delectably good steak she prepared one night had Gene reaching for the Band-Aids because it was so red.
“Let’s put a Band-Aid on this cow and we can get him on the road again,” he said. Her lack of depth perception in avoiding cars in parking lots removed all doubt of any kind of ability to draw a three-dimensional romantic picture.
My mother wasn’t blessed with a lot of originality, but there was one thing she could do well. She could knit. One day Mother arrived home with her knitting needles and bundles of yarn in an assortment of colors—reds, browns, yellows and blues, with two well-used brown soles.
“What are you going to do with that?” I asked her.
“I am going to knit a special present to give to Gene on our wedding day,” she said.
Night after night I watched her work tirelessly with the long blue needles moving back and forth. Slowly a beautiful geometric shape of white and yellow diamonds emerged framed by several inches of dark brown stitches that tapered to the bottom part of the top of the slipper. When the slippers were almost complete, she attached the soles with strong black stitches so the slippers would never tear or come apart. After weeks of knitting, a beautiful pair of hand made slippers emerged. Sewn in love and given to Gene on their wedding day, the slippers never lost their specialness.
One summer day a couple of years after my mother and father had married the next door neighbor’s dog was seen carrying one of the slippers off into the woods. Much effort was made to find the slipper the neighbor dog had stolen. A local Boy Scout troop scoured the woods with us looking for it. A week past and despite all of our best efforts, the slipper wasn’t found. We continued to look for it the rest of the summer but it never turned up.
The hot humid nights of summer came and went. The winds of autumn blew brightly colored orange and yellow leaves off the trees leaving them naked and exposed. Winter rolled in and the woods around our house were silent, gray, and cold. Snow blanketed the frozen landscape like white ivory pearls and the lost slipper was forgotten.
Spring arrived once again and the harsh, gray winter receded as signs of life brought renewal. The woods around our house, adorned in the spectacular beauty of layers of white blooming dogwoods, meant hot summer days would soon follow. The whippoorwill would once again serenade us as we caught lightening bugs in peanut butter jars.
One summer evening was different from all the rest. As we relaxed on the porch in the coolness of the day, we caught a glimpse of Gypsy as she ran out of the woods. At first we didn’t notice anything unusual, but as she got closer and slowed to a trot, we could see her carrying something. It was brown with diamond geometric designs. Gypsy strode up with her head held high and plopped down the long lost slipper in front of Dad as if to say, “This belongs to you. It was stolen by a thief, but I found it and am restoring it to you.”
We stared in disbelief as the slipper lay at Dad’s feet after being buried under dirt and snow for a year in the woods. We never knew where she found it, but that was Gypsy. She had quite a reputation for doing the impossible.
As Dad’s wedding slipper was carried off by a marauding dog, so I found myself being swept away by fear and separated from God.
…even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (Psalms 23:4).
Once I was willing to trust God in everything, I had peace. It did, still does, and always will require a daily refilling of God’s Spirit through reading my Bible, prayer, and fellowship with God and other believers. Dad passed away in 1994 and Mother gave me the slippers. For the last fourteen years I have kept them in the top of my closet. Every once in a while I will bring them down to look at them. They help me remember not only about the lost slipper, but how God restored that which was lost.

Life Virtual Book Tour with Diana Strickland
LIFE, is a poetry book of 50 poems about my life’s journey as a Christian woman going through one of the most life changing experiences. I began to write this book while being homeless, living in a shelter, and continuing to go through as a woman of God. My book is about overcoming life’s struggles. And God has defined what I went through with the title, LIFE. Keeping that relationship with Jesus.
Born on April 6, 1980, in Birmingham, Alabama, Diana Strickland had a gift of writing, speaking, and singing. She wrote her first book in elementary and was often the poet to represent her class. Her mother acknowledges that Diana was not a crying baby but she yelled. Her voice was very strong then and still is strong now. Her mother moved her family out of the projects to give them a better and healthier life. Diana Strickland no longer had her teachers to groom and support her so she became very fearful. Her fears paralyzed her and she didn’t speak or write until she was a full grown woman serving GOD.
In 2004 Diana Strickland was married and moved to New Jersey. When her marriage failed she cried out to Jesus in her bathtub. She was tired of a string of mistakes and lies. Her life was in circles like a rollercoaster ride that was not enjoyable. She threw up her hands and surrendered to Jesus. She rededicated her life to JESUS and became a true Christian.
God had worked with her and given her another opportunity. She began to complete her first poetry book and created a ministry website called Believer To Believer. Things were finally looking really hopeful for her. She was committed and was taking her life’s choices seriously. However with all the new love and growth Diana Strickland would have her faith tested with disappointments and heartbreak not far.
In 2007 Diana Strickland was terminated from both of her jobs. Diana lost almost everything of value in her life except CHRIST JESUS. She moved around two different homes before settling down in a shelter. At this point Diana was homeless, living in a shelter, and struggling being poor. But her faith never wavered although it was tested. Diana began to write poems to her second book, LIFE, while going through this season. In Diana’s latest book, LIFE, she “provides an honest spiritual analysis of a woman who learns that throughout her greatest challenges, her ever-increasing faith holds the key to a future of unbelievable promise!”
Today Diana Strickland is a student at Abundant Life Bible Institute to obtain her Associates degree in Theology. She is employed with two published poetry books and a ministry website. She also ministers her poetry at different events. Diana Strickland has her hands full but by the grace of God she will accomplish all that God has planned. She proudly shares her testimony without looking down.

Meet John A. Wooden, Author of Sasha McCoy Freelancer
About John
John Arthur Wooden received a B.S. from Tennessee State University and Master’s from Webster University. After serving twenty-one years in the U.S. Air Force, John retired as Major and now works as a Project Manager and Technical Writer with a defense contractor. He is a feature writer and columnist with the Perspective magazine in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
During his junior year in high school, John was tasked to read and complete a book report on Richard Wright’s Native Son. After reading this classic literary piece five times within one month, his love and fascination with books began. Already a fan of comic books, John would branch out and read whatever he could get his hands on. Words and meanings, coupled with his active and creative imagination, forged a twenty-five year burning sensation in his heart—a sensation that didn’t cease burning until he wrote his first book, A Collection of Thoughts, in 2003. However, this was only the beginning. An avid reader of mystery and suspense thrillers, John set a goal to become one of the top mystery/suspense authors in the world.

An Eye for a Deadly Eye, released in 2008, is John’s third novel and the second in the Kenny Carson series.
John is the proud father of two children, a son currently serving in the United States Air Force and a daughter who is currently studying at Georgia Southern University.

A GOOD DAY FOR KILLING.
I was sure that’s what my horoscope said that morning. If not, that was what it should have said. From my viewpoint, it was a great day for killing, a better day for dying.
Partying late, waking up later. Nice swims, day and night. Damn, I loved this island. Nothing quite like Hawaii, except the beaches in Sicily, the Caribbean, Mexico and a host of other places to which I had traveled.
I wasn’t being disrespectful to Hawaii. I really did love the island. There was nothing like the morning, waking to the rising sun or feeling the drizzle of falling raindrops during monsoon season. Just before dawn on the main island of Oahu was heavenly, and certainly worth living for.
I also loved Hawaii because it seemed as if it was a million miles away from where I was born and raised—the original city of sin, Las Vegas. Always copied, never duplicated.
I sat in my Orange Pineapple taxicab outside the Honolulu airport in the pre-dawn light, waiting on my fare, Abdullah Azizi Mufar, son of a Saudi Arabian oil baron. My employer had arranged with the Orange Pineapple Cab Company that I would be the driver for our special guest. Mufar was an enemy of the United States. He was behind many acts of terrorism throughout the world. He had been connected to at least seven terrorist attacks within the past two years. The last two involved the bombing of American embassies in Peru and North Africa. He’d finally gotten what he wanted—enough national attention to put him on the Top Five hit list. He’d gotten the attention of the U.S. government and the attention of The Company—my employer.
I continued to chill in my borrowed taxi, snacking on fresh pineapples from one of the plantations on the island. As I waited, thoughts of my time on the island in the past and during this visit drifted through my head.
Driving, touring and exploring the island of Oahu brought me a certain peace, a serenity I never found in the continental United States.
The first place I visited every time I set foot on the island was the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial. A solemn site for many, it gave me a sense of pride. I proudly served my country, and just the thought of what those who had perished did to make it possible for me and others to serve the country filled me with pride and gratitude.
Sometimes I wondered about the eleven hundred plus sailors who’d lost their lives on that dreaded day in December of 1941. I could feel their spirit and soul whenever I visited the site. I thought about their families and hoped the wives and children they would never see again or the grandchildren or great grandchildren they would never meet visited the memorial every now and then to pay homage to the sailors’ sacrifices.
While here I also made my rounds to the six military installations on Oahu. And if I was fortunate enough to be in Hawaii on a Wednesday or Saturday, I always made it a point to visit the flea market held in Aloha Stadium—the home of the NFL Pro Bowl.
As thoughts of the things I’d done here before floated through my mind, I realized I wanted to spend some leisure time in Oahu after this mission. It was a mindless thought on my part. Maybe it was just wishful thinking. Even if I didn’t have another mission after this one, spending time in the city after the mission was frowned upon at the CIA, especially if that city was a small island called Paradise.
My phone rang, bringing me back to reality. It was my handler.
Codename: Cobra Blue.
I’d never liked my middleman. He was a parasite from the first day I met him. His beet red face gave him the appearance of permanent sunburn, he was short and a hamburger away from being pudgy. His hair was thinning up top, and his face always sported a five-day growth of beard. If his purpose was to throw off the bad guys by looking like something someone discarded, he was doing a great job of it.
Cobra Blue was calling from inside the Honolulu airport. Every blue moon, he supervised a mission in country. Meaning, he stepped away from his office in San Francisco and stepped out where the rubber met the road.
This time the road was in Hawaii, so he definitely wanted to be on the frontlines for this mission. The man was responsible for at least three other field officers that I knew of and I wondered if he was a pain in the ass to them as well.
He informed me the target was on his way out.
Mufar had briefed his partners in crime in Honolulu that he would be arriving in two days. We intercepted the call and coerced his small contingent of bad players into dealing with us. Of course, the coercion included killing three members of their group before the other two would cooperate.
Sometimes, we must do what we must do. I laughed at my own silliness. Death wasn’t funny to me, but destroying our nation’s enemies made me feel good inside.
I spotted the ambitious Abdullah Azizi Mufar as he exited the terminal. I could see why he fit in well in American culture. He was smooth shaven with a chestnut brown complexion, a neatly trimmed thick, black mustache and a combination curly and nappy mini-Afro. The only thing that distinguished him as a Middle Easterner was his mustache, but a casual glance at his appearance made him look more like an African-American man with a thick mustache.
I pulled up slowly by the curbside and parked. The man recognized the cab and its number. He had also been given my basic identity: Dodgers baseball cap, light brown complexion, short hair. Nothing extravagant, just blending in with the other cabbies.
He immediately jumped in with only a small carry-on bag in his possession. It was strange, but Azizi Mufar didn’t believe in traveling with an entourage. He believed in blending in and what better way to stay low key than flying on a commercial airliner by yourself.
He didn’t speak. I knew where I was supposed to drop him off. That was if I was his real scheduled driver.
As soon as I turned onto the main drag departing the airport I looked in my rearview mirror and saw my passenger looking out the window. He started to yawn and I immediately surveyed my surroundings for other vehicles and pedestrians, then lifted my SIG Sauer P6 from the side of my seat and surprised my passenger with a point-blank shot to the head. The hollow point round exited his head and cracked the back windshield.
I pulled off the main drag at the next turn fifty feet away before anyone noticed the bullet hole or the brain matter splattered over the back windshield. I parked the cab in a back alley not far from the airport. I had been there before. Cobra Blue had already arranged for someone to pick up the car, clean it up, wipe it down and return it to the cab company. The bullet hole in the windshield could easily be explained away by our clean-up guy. Besides blood and brains, the clean up would be easy. I didn’t believe in leaving a mess. Because of the gloves I wore, no fingerprints or hair follicles would be trace back to me. And our guys were the best at cleaning up a mess, including ensuring no traces of Azizi Mufar were in the cab.
Mufar had pressing business in Honolulu. He had plans to meet with two other terrorist leaders—Jin Con Chen of North Korea and retired Army Brigadier General MacLean Baxter, U.S. born, and Army bred and raised.
My job was simple. Eliminate all three before the planned meeting. One down, two to go. Number two would certainly be easier.
Or so I thought.
The sunrise was so beautiful this time of morning. Damn, I loved Hawaii.

Why I Wrote the Someday Trilogy by Jae Henderson
Sometime I can hardly believe that I have written three inspirational romance novels. Especially, since it almost didn’t happen. I was hesitant to write the first book, “Someday”. Although it is fiction, people often intertwine the author with the main characters. I was afraid that if I wrote a book where the main characters were celibate someone would try to make me the poster child for celibacy, put me inside a box or worse—on a pedestal. I was afraid that if I accepted one of those roles and then faltered my weakness would cause someone else stumble in their Christian walk. But God told me that it wasn’t about me, or what others would think of me because He had a message for me to relay. The Someday trilogy is my humble attempt to do so. I call my brand of fiction moral messaging. Every literary picture I paint is meant to plant seeds of wisdom in order to allow self-examination through God’s word to take root. We all have room for improvement.
What makes me qualified to write these books is the fact that I am a Christian and beautifully human. I’ve lived a life of celibacy successfully and unsuccessfully. And whether I was practicing abstinence or sexually active, God still showed me His love, grace, and mercy each day. Just like so many young women, I am striving daily to be the woman He created me to be. I am grateful for His unconditional love, and He has commissioned me to share it with others through my writing. He loves each of you the same way.
For most of my life I have been considered a “good girl,” known for doing what my family expected of me and what thus saith the Lord. Then, there came was a point where I tired of being “Ms. Goodie Two Shoes” or a “Holy Roller” because it seemed like everyone was enjoying life more than I was. I decided to try things the world’s way adopting an “if it feels good do it” philosophy. I soon realized that life wasn’t for me. I found out the hard way that my heart is directly connected to my body and giving myself to someone who had no or very little feelings for me only left me empty with meaningless sexual experiences to talk about. If I had the misfortune of developing feelings for my partner I also had the scars of heart ache, pain, disappointment, and sometimes even embarrassment to show for my efforts.
I discovered that I am full of heart and emotion and by refusing to acknowledge that I was abusing the part of me that makes me who I am.
Your morals are entwined into the very fabric of who you are. I encourage you to embrace them and not run from them. I came to the conclusion that I like being the good girl, and the Holy Spirit doesn’t seem like a bad selection to roll with. Yet and still, I’m not perfect. I have made and will make mistakes but I serve the perfect One.
In my books, encourage those who were also raised with the knowledge that our bodies are precious and they are not to be given to anyone and everyone. To us, sex is more than a recreational activity. My books are for those who have tired of the world feeding us lies that the way to get a man is to perform your best sexual tricks as soon as you meet him. Perhaps you have heard that we are missing out on a whole lot of fun or we are selling ourselves short by not using our innermost parts to entice others for personal gain. Some of us still believe that our bodies are meant to be shared with someone we possess deep affection for and who cares for us deeply as well. Some of us are wise enough to know that real love transcends the physical and that true intimacy is obtained when two people’s minds and hearts connect and what happens physically can be a beautiful expression of that connection. My books express that some things can’t be rushed and whether you are waiting to get to the altar or waiting for him to take the time to truly get to know you—you are worth waiting for. My books are also for those who want to live a Christian life but get weary at times and need a little encouragement. And they’re for those who just love a good love story. What began with one book has now grown to three and you’ll find some encouragement within each one.
Many people have asked me if my main female character, Tee, is really Jae. I must admit that a few of my main character’s experiences are loosely based on my own, but she is not me. As the story evolved, Tee began to take on a life of her own, carve out her own place in her world and take ownership of it. She is her own woman. You’ll find out why I love her so much as her story unfolds.
Now, if you happen to be like Tee, still waiting for your prince and at times it seems that he may never arrive know that God has not forgotten you and He will answer your prayer SOMEDAY. You must be patient as He carefully unfolds His master plan for your life. I’m sure it’s greater than you could have ever imagined. You are His child, and He loves you that much. I pray that you enjoy the “Someday”, “Someday,Too,” and “Forever and a Day”. Be blessed!
