About the Author: Marie von Minden

Would you like to live each day surrounded by unsurpassed beauty and deeply connected to nature? Marie finds it hard to believe, but this is now her lifestyle and she wants to share it through her photography and stories.

Marie von Minden was born and raised in Poland. She immigrated to Canada in 1982 and in 1999 she and her husband relocated to the United States. Like many Europeans, she was overwhelmed by the vastness and the beauty of North America and she developed a passion for landscape photography.

The competition was for girls between the ages of thirteen and seventeen, but it felt like Ericka, Tori, and I were the youngest ones there. I only saw a couple of girls from school, and the lineup looked more like something you’d see on a music video set. All the girls were gorgeous, and they had these curvy womanly bodies. I looked like a skinny little kid next to them. The first girl walked out, and I heard the judges say she “owned the runway,” and, “walked like a gazelle.” I was starting to feel ill. I wasn’t sure which way it was going to come, but I knew I had to find a bathroom — fast. I started to get out of line when Ericka grabbed my wrist.

“It’s almost time,” she said. A tiny bit of spit flew out of her mouth and hit my cheek.

I wasn’t sure why she was so intent on me going through with it, but she had a death grip on my arm, so I didn’t have much of a choice. Her number was called and she walked out to the stage. One of the other girls said she walked like a kid with sand bucket stilts on her feet, but she came back with a smirk on her face like she knew she’d get chosen.

“They said they had never seen such long legs,” she said.

Tori was next.

“She walks like a gorilla at feeding time,” said the girl behind me. I went next, and I tried to focus on not tripping over my feet. My mom’s pumps had a rubber sole on the bottom, which probably wasn’t the brightest idea seeing as my shoes were making squeaking noises as I walked. I was so nervous I couldn’t stop smiling as I walked. I looked like the plastic clown who blows up balloons with its mouth at the Pizza Palace. When I got to the end of the runway, I tried to cross my feet to turn like the other girls had, but I over rotated and ended up doing a full spin which made my kilt fan out and gave the mall walkers a view of my blue underpants. I tried to act like it was intentional and did an extra turn. One of the judges put her hand up to stop me, and I held my breath as she started to speak.

Krysten Lindsay Hager is an author and book addict who has never met a bookstore she didn’t like. She’s worked as a journalist and also writes middle grade, YA, humor essays, and adult fiction. Her debut novel, TRUE COLORS, will be out June 17th from Astraea Press. Tell us about your book?

‘Altars of the Heart’ is about how to experience a deeper relationship with the Lord from a pure heart. It takes the reader on a journey of self-evaluation and self-discovery where they are able to understand why the events of their past continue to trouble them in the present. This book is not a cookie-cutter; one-size fits all approach to worship, but rather an individual “guided tour” that helps the reader discover their own path to deeper worship.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

‘Altars of the Heart’ came from my personal study time. I was doing a study on the life of Abraham, and that study led to a personal interest in the altars in bible. Because of this interest I began to study the meaning and uses of altars in Scripture. My study opened my spiritual eyes to the connection between the altars in the bible and the spiritual heart of man.

What do you hope readers will learn/discover from reading your book?

My hope is that reader will take the journey and submit to an honest heart conversation with their selves and allow God to reveal to them what he desires of them, so that they can experience their own victory available to them through Jesus Christ.

What inspired you to write this book?

After doing the study on the altars in the bible and seeing the connection between them and the heart of man, I took my own journey of self-evaluation and self-discovery and after allowing myself to go through the process I knew I had to share. What’s next for you?

I am excited about the release of this book, and I believe that I will write a follow-up book that will continue to help readers move forward in the journey process.

Tell us about yourself?

I am an Army wife and mother of two teenage children. I have been married to my husband and very best friend for over 18 years. I also served in the military in the U.S. Air Force. I am an only child, born and raised in Springfield, Ohio.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book?

I would say being able to write the book and share my story without sharing other peoples stories. I was very careful to write in a way that I was the only person exposed to the reader. It was not necessary to force others to be a part of something they may or may not be ready for. I have learned through my own journey that my testimony is all about bringing God glory and that does not leave room to offend or put down others. I f I need to do that in order to share a “testimony” then I need to reevaluate my motives.

Did you have to do any special research for your book? Why do you write? Is it something you’ve always done, or always wanted to do? Or is it something that you started fairly recently?

I wrote this book because of my desire to share what I learned through personal study. This is not something I ever considered doing before, but I am excited about the possibility of the next book.

How did you come up with ideas for this book? I have been collecting affirmations for 5 years and used them daily so I decided to share my love and belief with others.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing this book? Organizing the affirmations and coming up with which ones to put in book.

Why do you write? I write to impact everyone who will pick up my writings, so it will effect change in some area of life. My writings also help me to change and to grow.

Is it something you’ve always done, or always wanted to do? Or is it something that you started fairly recently? Writing is something I have always wanted to do and have done off and on, I just recently decided on publishing and bringing everything from paper to print.

Any advice to give to aspiring writers? Just go for it and start, yes it may not be perfect , but you can always improve and always get better, but if you never do it you will have regrets and what if’s, don’t leave the earth with an I wish I would have done it. Do it now! Follow your passion and fulfill your dream

Dwayne S. Joseph began his writing career at the age of thirteen. About the Author

An avid reader since her primary years, Michelle saw books as an escape mechanism. Excited by the worlds, and characters that could be created with a touch of the imagination, she began writing her own stories at the age of 12. The more enamored with storytelling she became, the more she wanted to create stories about the suffering, and hardships she saw others enduring, with one twist…her characters would rise above their adversities and limitations, but not always with traditional endings.
