DexCom Mobile App
With the annual ADA Scientific sessions this past week, there were many announcements and press releases from companies. I’ll be sharing a few that stood out to me…

{Diabetes at School} End of the School Year Checklist
School ends this week for our family. I know this may be too late for some of you, but as I made a mental note of things I needed to take care of at school this week regarding my daughter’s diabetes, I thought I would share some of my to-do list with you.
Gather Supplies
If you are like us, you have a gazillion diabetes supplies stored at school. Time to schlep all that stuff back home.
We have “low kits” stashed in several locations throughout the school including the PE office and the art and...

{YouTube Tuesday} Diabetes UK Explains T1 Diabetes
Diabetes UK has commissioned quite a few great videos about type 1 diabetes. In this video, a young girl with T1 asks why and she receives an explanation.
The producers of this video say “Diabetes UK approached us to help them create a short film that would serve as a visual guide for children affected by diabetes. We took the initiative to talk directly with newly diagnosed children in order to gain insight into what could help young minds understand Type 1 diabetes.”

{Diabetes} Camping With Diabetes
Please remember that I never give medical advice. Ask your endocrinologist or pediatrician for advice about your own child. Make your own informed decisions for your own child.
I know many families are making plans to go camping with their family this summer. Camping is fun and with a little planning, diabetes can be managed.
I was asked on Facebook recently about tips for camping. In my book Kids First, Diabetes Second there is a great chapter called “Less Stress, More Happiness,” which includ...

{Diabetes} Rolling My Eyes At Little Couple Dad Bill Klein
Mmm, cake! Cake which didn’t cause my child’s diabetes.
This week’s episode of The Little Couple on TLC chronicled their son Will’s fourth birthday party, which took place at a zoo.
He had a safari themed cake and Will was served a giant slice.*
Cake! Cake! Cake!
(He was using the #cakecakecake hashtag on Twitter.)
During the little interviews (no pun intended) Bill made a remark that he probably shouldn’t let his son eat such a big piece of cake, but that fate (I couldn’t quite understand him, bu...

{Parenting} Putting Yourself First
I finally got in for my long-overdue yearly physical.
I was absolutely dreading my physical. I know I’ve gained weight the past couple of years. And I absolutely feel like crud these days.
So when the following questions were asked of me, you can just imagine what happened next.
“How are your stress levels?”
And
“Do you get enough sleep?”
Cue tears.
Most of the time I’m on autopilot and I’m not emotional about any of what I am dealing with. It’s not until someone point blank asks me how I’m doing th...

{Diabetes} Update From Abbott On Freestyle Test Strips For The OmniPod PDM
(This post is informational and not an endorsement for any of the products mentioned. They are the products we use, so I thought I would pass along the info.)
If you use the Abbott Freestyle test strips in the OmniPod PDM, here is an update I received from Jessica Sachariason, Public Affairs Manager, about the recent recall:
“Later this week Abbott will begin sending out letters updating the OmniPod customers who have called in to get replacement strips on how to obtain their next supply of tes...
