CASSA FIREByAlex Cavanaugh
 AmazonGoodreadsBarnes & Noble
Blurb:From the Amazon best-selling author - CassaStar was just the beginning The Vindicarn War is a distant memory and Byron 's days of piloting Cosbolt fighters are over. He has kept the promise he made to his fallen mentor and friend - to probe space on an exploration vessel. Shuttle work is dull, but it 's a free and solitary existence. The senior officer is content with his life aboard the Rennather. The detection of alien ruins sends the exploration ship to the distant planet of Tgren. If their scientists can decipher the language, they can unlock the secrets of this device. Is it a key to the Tgren 's civilization or a weapon of unimaginable power? Tensions mount as their new allies are suspicious of the Cassan 's technology and strange mental abilities. To complicate matters, the Tgrens are showing signs of mental powers themselves; the strongest of which belongs to a pilot named Athee, a woman whose skills rival Byron 's unique abilities. Forced to train her mind and further develop her flying aptitude, he finds his patience strained. Add a reluctant friendship with a young scientist, and he feels invaded on every level. All Byron wanted was his privacy.
MY REVIEW:

Cassa Fire, the second book in the series by Alex Cavanaugh, sees the main character Byron, involved in an exploration of ancient artifacts, found on a planet, whose inhabitants are not yet capable of space flight.

The Cassans are surprised to find some of the inhabitants possess the stronger mental abilities than they first thought and begin testing to find what they may be capable of.

Even though Byron still holds onto a lot of emotional baggage in Cassa Fire, he seems ready to move on with his life and begins to let down some of his shields to allow a few selected people into his private world.

Cassa Fire is another great read by Alex Cavanaugh and the reader is swept up with the life of his complex main character, Byron, as he finds friendship in an insecure scientist and a special female inhabitant of the planet the Cassan expedition visits.

My topic to coincide with Letter "C" is on - Can and Can't!
My husband is always telling me there is no such thing as "Can't"!  Do I believe him? Well that depends on the day!
Some days, I can feel inspired and full of clarity and have no trouble at all fulfilling my goals, but other days, as I am sure you can relate to, I feel as though I can't accomplish anything.
I will flounder around and feel as though the whole day has been wasted. Unfortunately, days can lead into weeks and weeks into months!
I have been floundering for the past month, since completing my blog tour and have only written about four pages of one book. I could say I have been blogging, catching up with my buddies, but I have neglected that, too - only visiting a select few!
So, after the Challenge I am going to commit to the word "CAN"and try my hardest to get back on track with my writing!

BREAKTHROUGH
(The Adventures of Chase
Manhattan)
By
Stephen Tremp

Amazon
Goodreads

BLURB:

"A scientific breakthrough of such magnitude it could radically alter the future of humanity—for better or worse—is in the wrong hands." The Information Age is moving at breakneck speed. Breakthroughs in areas of science that were once fodder for science fiction are now becoming part of our everyday life. A group of graduate students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology has stolen a breakthrough in opening and stabilizing Einstein-Rosen Bridges, commonly known as wormholes, that allows them to instantly transport people from one location to another. Their goal is to assassinate any powerful politician and executive controlling the world’s banking system that would use this technology for their own greedy gain rather than the advancement of mankind. In south Orange County, California, young Chase Manhattan, part of a new breed of modern-day discovery seekers, seeks to leave behind his life of danger and adventure and settle down as an associate professor of physics at University of California-Irvine. He also desires to build a lasting relationship with a beautiful woman he has not seen since high school. His idyllic plan is postponed when he soon uncovers the diabolical scheme on the other side of the country. He realizes he is the one person who can prevent more murders from happening and either control or destroy the technology. Once the M.I.T. group understands Chase and his friends have the ability and motivation to not only take the technology from them, but also thwart more killings, Chase finds himself in their crosshairs, the top-of-the-list target on their assassination agenda. As the death toll mounts, Chase and his friends must battle this group of misled zealots from M.I.T. on both coasts and in cyberspace in a thrilling, desperate race to determine the outcome of this monumental, once in a millenium discovery that will drastically change life as we know it—for better or worse. Breakthrough, the first book in the Adventures of Chase Manhattan series, begins with a big bang and offers the audience exciting, unique, and diverse heroes and villains. The result is a fresh suspense thriller series integrating elements of greed, betrayal, passion, lust, unconditional love, coming of age, and hope. The action is swift. There are numerous twists and turns that will keep the reader turning the pages and wanting more. You will want to be sure to read Stephen's next thrilling installment, Opening. Look for Opening coming soon at your favorite bookstore.

TEASER:

William couldn’t talk. He couldn’t breathe. Shocked, he could only sit and look up. Unblinking sea-green eyes stared at him out of the slit mask. PlanC was simple enough—run for help. William sprang out of his chair and tried to run around the right side of his desk. The assassin leapt onto the floor in front of him and planted her right foot into William’s left knee, crumpling his breathless body onto the plush red-carpeted floor.
Tremp, Stephen (2010-07-20). Breakthrough: The Adventures of Chase Manhattan (The Breakthrough Trilogy) (Kindle Locations 448-451). Amazon.com. Kindle Edition.

MY REVIEW:

Stephen Tremp's first novel in The Adventures of Chase Manhattan, 'Breakthrough,' is a fast paced read, filled with technical espionage, martial arts, guns, love, sex, murder and the desperate struggle of three couples as they try to overcome a crazy man and his team of intellectual misfits from committing further atrocities, to keep a newly developed technology from being exploited by a corrupt corporate world.

Chase Manhattan, is a egregious character, which one just can't help but fall in love with. He developes two nemesis in this novel, Nicky Jnr and Staci.

A great read and one I recommend to anyone who enjoys a bit everything tossed in to a novel! I am looking forward to reading the second book.

AUTOMATIC WOMANBy Nathan Yocum
Goodreads  Amazon Barnes & Noble

BLURB:

There are no simple cases. Jacob “Jolly” Fellows knows this.

The London of 1888, the London of steam engines, Victorian intrigue, and horseless carriages is not a safe place nor simple place…but it’s his place. Jolly is a thief catcher, a door-crashing thug for the prestigious Bow Street Firm, assigned to track down a life sized automatic ballerina. But when theft turns to murder and murder turns to conspiracy, can Jolly keep his head above water? Can a thief catcher catch a killer?

Automatic Woman is the second novel from award winning screenwriter Nathan L. Yocum. A volatile mix of steampunk, noir, historical fiction, and two-fisted action, Automatic Woman takes us to a place that never was yet we all know so well… the London of Jules Verne, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Jack the Ripper and Bram Stoker with a pneumatic twist.

MY REVIEW:

The Automatic Woman by Nathan Yocum is a fascinating read, taking the reader into a world of well known historical figures of science, twisting historical possibilities which lead into an imaginative tale of a power struggle between two very well known characters from our past.

The main character Jacob Fellows, an investigator for a private service, back in olde England, becomes hunted by police and the special secret service he works for, when he is found in extenuating circumstances at a murder scene of the man, who owned a 'special' automated woman, when his firm had hired him to investigate her theft.

The story becomes a power struggle between two well known influential parties from history, as they compete to learn the secrets of the missing automatic woman. The meat in the sandwich, stuck in the middle of these two waring parties is Jacob Fellows, who just happens to be strong enough physically and mentally, not to be completely manipulated or corrupted by their will.

Set in olde England, this interesting and quite original steam punk novel is a fascinating read. The reader is swept into the bygone, imaginative era of olde England, when the development of science and machine was paramount in gaining knowledge, prestige, power and wealth.

Excerpt from Frailties of the Bond
Luca veered into the woods for his normal scenic route home. Broad tree trunks stood tall, a legion of nature’s soldiers deeply rooted and strong. He closed his eyes briefly, skin tingling. He sensed another presence. He’d felt it before, but it felt almost tangible this night.
The setting sun crept from its throne in the sky leaving a trail of golden fingers splayed out over the familiar cliff side in the distance. For a moment, Luca smelled the scent of apricots. His heart skipped a beat. His mind wandered back to the red letter…then further back to that fateful day.
A twig snapped nearby. His ears perked and he paused mid step. Glancing around, he spotted a raccoon shaking itself free of a small heap of fallen leaves. He let go of a breath he hadn’t realized he held. Whoa, maybe I’m thinking about Vivie a little too much.
He turned his mind to other things, like the trouble he’d face when he got home. He forgot to call his mom and tell her he was going to the gym. No telling how pissed she was.
Arriving home, he took the steps two at a time, focused on digging his keys from inside his bag. He reached one hand out, grasping for the door knob.
MY TEASER: Instead, nothing but air.

He finally looked up, startled at the sight before him. The door didn’t stand ajar or slightly open.
It. Was. Gone.

In Frailties of the Bond, it only takes one bite to change a life
After a hiking trip gone wrong, sixteen-year-old Luca should have been dead. Since then, he’s drifted from one school day to the next, annoyed by the looks of suspicion. When a vampire attack claimed his mother and forced his first shift into animal form, Luca set out for Texas, vengeance bound, only to discover so much more when Aimee crossed his path.
Flesh-born of vampire parents sixteen years ago, Aimee shouldn’t exist. Magic, though, made dreams come true for an undead couple desperate for a child all their own. But this magic came with a price, a cost Aimee discovered after one forbidden bite.

BLOG TOUR - ZARCONIAN ISLANDBY AJA HANNAH

Attie, is visiting my blog today to talk a little about herself and to spill the beans about Zarconian Island, on behalf of Aja Hanna.  So, please give her a warm welcome.
Carolyn

So, here’s the thing. They told me to talk about myself except I don’t really like talking about myself all that much.

“But, Attie,” you whine. “Didn’t you just tell us your whole story?”

Okay, well. Yes. But that’s beside the point.

I don’t know. What do they ask normal people in these things? I guess I could tell you some stuff like that I grew up in Maryland. Right smack in the suburbs with my mom and dad and younger brother. I don’t know where I want to go to college or what I even want to go for.

I don’t have pets. I mean, I had a lizard once except it got stuck in a well, which wasn’t really a well as much as it was a mineshaft. And I suppose the lizard was never really stuck. More like hiding from Kate forever.

Then there was that time in LA with a giant cat that looked like a raccoon. But that doesn’t really count because the whole time we were there it was like “Duck!” and not like the bird. Anyway, that’s a whole other story.

Where was I? They’re telling me to say something about everyone I was stuck with on the island. Perfect.

Kate: My best friend. A pretty loyal companion even if she has bad taste in men and clothes.

Bryan: Some guy from school I never really liked and almost killed once. We’re getting along better now.

Michelle: A genius, if not a bit unsettled.

Jack Joshua: A passenger on the cruise. He survived after it crashed and ended up on the island with us. I would say more, but the court ordered me not to.

Doug: Well, he’s just…something else entirely. And yes, maybe I kind of like him.

Jeez.

 BLURB:
My stomach knotted tighter, winding so hard it hurt.Kate watched me, rubbing a piece of her hair between two fingers.I bit my tongue, trying to work the words out."The boat …we're going under.”
Possessing powers that are feared and shunned, eighteen-year-old Alexandra “Attie” Hotep is no virgin to attacks. Her ancestors, the Zarconians-- mixed-blood inhabitants of Atlantis--were rumored to be the English fairies who kidnapped children, the Caribbean sirens that sunk ships, and the dream-like apparitions who broke into psyches. By the 1850s, they were hunted to near-extinction, leaving the existence of Atlantis and Zarconians little more than myth.
When a class trip turns deadly, Attie and her friends become stranded on an uncharted tropical island in the middle of the Pacific, and Attie finds herself targeted once more. With a jungle full of extinct and prowling animals, she struggles to find a compromise between keeping her friends safe and keeping her family's secret.
Enter Doug Hutchinson—the school’s soccer star, and a handsome boy with his own secrets. But Attie and Doug soon realize the animals aren't the only threat. There is a traitor amidst the group, one that plans to turn all Zarconians into permanent myths. And Attie is next on the list.

BURIED - NEW RELEASE FOR GERILYN MAVIN

Today, Cadence McKenna has dropped by to share a little about herself as she reveals her character in Gerily Mavin's new book, Buried!  Welcome Cadence! Okay, um, hi! My name is Cadence McKenna, family and childhood friends ( . . . and Grey, but he just does it to bug me), call me Cae. First, I'd like to apologize to Carolyn for this post coming to her very late. My writer, Gerilyn, isn't usually very 'on the ball', if you will, and she is recovering from a God awful head cold, so she might have forgotten to ask me to do this post in a timely fashion.

So, anyway . . . . I live in a town called Fane's Cove, in Upstate New York. If you haven't heard of the place, I'm not surprised. Most people who come through here try to forget about it. What can I say? We're pleasant enough people, and the scenery is nice, but . . . well, there's this whole spooky vibe that scares people away. All except for Grey—that'd be Grey Addison, the new boy in school—who's family moved here (seriously, nobody moves here), and stayed. I don't even know what to say to that.

I live with my mom, Audrey, and brother, Jeremy. My dad, Patrick, lives across town since the divorce. My best friend, Wendi lives right next door, and has a huge crush on my brother . . . and vice versa. It's kind of an awkward mess for me, but hey, I've got bigger things to worry about.

I swear, I feel like I'm the only sane person in town, 'cause I'm the only one who thinks that normal people moving here is strange. I like to think maybe I'm a little more observant about these things 'cause I'm a little psychic (very, very little). *taps her fingers impatiently on the desk* Alright, well, if I'm going to be fair about this . . . I guess I can understand why everyone's ignoring it. Locals, I think, just sorta hope it's a sign; they hope that the vibe is fading. Which would be fantastic, only problem is none of us know what the vibe stems from.

Well, none of us knew.

I know now, and so does Grey. In fact, I only know about our town's past because I started poking my nose into Grey's business. Wow, I'm finding it hard to talk about the story without giving spoilers. So, to the point, we find information about the town's past that, he has reason to believe, ties to him (which turns out to be true) and that affects me, personally. The latter, I don't think either of us expected. And I've got all I can do to keep Wendi and Jer distracted so they don't get mixed up in any of it. Or interfere.

There's poltergeists, apparitions, disembodied voices, magic, a bit of bloodshed, and it all leads up to an existence-altering revelation.

For one of us, anyway.

I think that about rounds out my story without telling too much. Gerilyn has already begun work on the sequel story, Broken, as Buried is the first in a trilogy. Huh, I'm feeling like trilogies are a theme in YA paranormal literature these days.

Anyways, thank you so  much for having me, C.M., I appreciate the turn to have my own voice outside of Ger's writing.

Blurb: Like every resident of Fane’s Cove, Cadence McKenna knows her town is, well, odd. And yet, they’re accustomed to the near-daily supernatural happenings- so accustomed, in fact, that when Grey Addison moves to town and stays, she is shocked to find that she’s the only one who insists that there must be something strange about him. With her life-long—if minor—psychic sensitivity handed down from her grandmother, she knows that what she feels isn’t simple paranoia.  After all, how many normal guys pay no mind to random poltergeist activity occurring right in front of them?  Cadence can’t blame anyone for wanting to ignore that there might be more to his presence there- perhaps if he is a normal guy, it’s just the first sign that whatever it is about the town that drives visitors away is fading.  She might have even grudgingly let it go, but then she sees Grey acting very suspiciously and knows that she can’t dismiss her feelings until she understands why he’s in Fane’s Cove.  Even if it means sticking her neck out by pretending to get close to him . . . and learning more about her town’s history than anyone would ever want to know.

Author Bio: Gerilyn Marin is a self-described gothic-tree-hugger who lives in the town of Whitestone, New York with her husband, and four children. The part of her brain that registers the passage of time is still convinced she's twenty-one. She wedges in writing time wherever she can when not covered in children or navigating the mine field of debris left in their wake. It’s an unpredictable schedule, but one that mostly works to her favor since, aside from her creative output, she is sorely lacking in employable.

THE BIG REVEAL - A-Z CHALLENGE

The Big Reveal Blog Hop for the A-Z Challengeis hosted byDavid McCauley @ britsintheus23 and Mina Lobo @ Some Dark Romantic
The idea is to reveal what theme you will be posting for the challenge during the month of April!
A-Z CHALLENGE 2013
After much deliberation, I have decided to give a little back to all my author blogger friends and have been very busy reading lots of books over the past few months.
So, can you guess what my posts will be about?
Yes, I will be basing my A-Z Challenge on....book reviews of my fellow blogger authors! With a few tour hostings from a couple of
new authors tossed in as well.
Will you be on my list?Well, you will have to wait until
Monday April 1st to find out,
when the Challenge begins!

I will also be posting my reviews on
Goodreads / Amazon /
Smashwords /Barnes and Noble /
Net Galley (for affiliated authors) / Shelfari
******This year, I have also taken on the roll of a Minion for the Challengefor Jeremy - Retro Zombie, so beware!
I may just visit you to ensure you are playing the game correctly!
Jeremy - Retro Zombie creates the badges for the
A-Z Challenge  and is one of the co-hosts.You can download them to use on your blog from the A-Z Challenge site.
I will personally be using the A-Z Challenge calendar and the Alphabet Letters to use for my posts.
So make sure you sign up at the A-Z Challenge site
using the linky list, to join in on the fun!

I will also be holding a vote during the month of the Challenge (April) where visitors will be able to cast who they feel are their most worthy blogger buddies.
The Fellow Bloggers Appreciation Vote!
Show your appreciation to a fellow blogger who you have noticed goes out of their way to help, and who always participates in the various Blog Fests, Hops and Events held on the Web.
Simply fill out the Voting Form on the side tab of my posts or click the link on the posts, to go to a new page which shows the document on a full page.
Remember to enter the coinciding Rafflecopter draw for a $20 Amazon Kindle Gift Card, up for grabs,
just for casting your vote!
What I haven't decided yet, is the prize for the
blogger who wins the vote!Ah, but I have over a month to make this decision.
I hope you enjoy the A-Z Challenge for 2013!See you there!
