Japan is looking for Ninjas

Can you disappear among smoke? Can you fly from roof to roof? Are you a star thrower master? Or dueling with swords? Maybe you dominate the art of acrobatics? Then this is for you! And no, it’s not fake news. Japan is suffering a real shortage of Ninjas.

The reminiscent practitioners of Ninjutsu are speaking out as tourism is increasing, more and more people are demanding Ninja performances. Takatsugu Aoki spoke to the Asahi Newspaper:

“With the number of foreign tourists visiting Japan on the increase, the value of ninja as tourism content has increased. There are more employment choices, while ninja shows across the country have become popular. I feel there is a ninja shortage.”

Don’t worry, walking on water or disappearing is not a requirement for the job – although it would be cool. The candidates should have knowledge in unarmed combat, acrobatics, concealment and first aid. Throwing star and sword fighting skills are definitely a plus.

Unfortunately, the Ninja seekers haven’t published a way where you can apply. As ninjas were known mainly for their spy abilities. As a future Ninja, you might try to find out how to apply for the position with your supernatural skills, which I lack, as I only started my training. Good luck future Ninjas!

Meer doen in minder tijd: 5 superslimme productiviteitstips voor ondernemers

Ben je zelfstandig ondernemer en vind je het lastig om efficiënt taken in te plannen en productief te werken?

Heb je vaak last van uitstelgedrag of krijg je voor je gevoel simpelweg te weinig gedaan op een dag?

Je bent zeker niet de enige. Efficiënt plannen en werken is een kunst op zich.

En als zelfstandig ondernemer zijn er extra uitdagingen die het allemaal wat lastiger maken:

Voor veel werkzaamheden kun je je eigen tijd indelen. Heerlijk natuurlijk, maar de keerzijde van de medaille is dat er niemand is die je achter de vodden zit.
Veel ZZP’ers werken bovendien regelmatig vanuit huis. Ook dan is er niemand die je controleert en liggen er allerlei afleidingen op de loer die je van je werk af kunnen houden.

In dit artikel laat ik je zien hoe je hiermee om moet gaan en hoe je beter, efficiënter en productiever kunt werken.

Geen uitstelgedrag, verloren uurtjes of getreuzel meer. Ga vandaag nog aan de slag met de onderstaande tips en verander jezelf in een echte productiviteitsmachine!

Tip 1: geef deze productiviteitskillers geen kans

Gebruik van internet is voor elke onderneming een must.

Waarschijnlijk heb je een eigen website, zodat klanten je online kunnen vinden. En je gebruikt aan de lopende band dingen als e-mail, internetbankieren, online boekhouden, Skype, social media…

Al deze dingen helpen je bij het ondernemen en je kunt tegenwoordig echt niet meer zonder. Tegelijkertijd kunnen sommige van deze online activiteiten ook enorm veel afleiding geven. Als je niet uitkijkt, ben je er zo uren per week aan kwijt, zonder dat het echt iets oplevert.

Dit zijn de echte productiviteitskillers die je als eerste moet aanpakken. Je kunt nog zo voortvarend aan de slag gaan met een nieuw productiviteitssysteem, maar als je deze afleidingen niet aanpakt, kom je nog steeds nergens. Deze productiviteitskillers zijn een blok aan je been!

Social Media

Het zal je denk ik niet verbazen dat ik hier social media als eerste productiviteitskiller noem. Social media is allang niet meer alleen voor vrijetijdsgebruik en het heeft tegenwoordig ook zeker een belangrijke zakelijke component. Maar toch moet je hier niet meer tijd aan besteden dan strikt noodzakelijk.

Het probleem is dat afleiding echt overal te vinden is hier. Ook al ben je op zoek naar zakelijke info of ben je bezig je bedrijfspagina op Facebook bij te werken, de kans is groot dat je een interessant nieuwsberichtje voorbij ziet komen dat je toch even wilt lezen. Of, erger nog, een leuk kattenfilmpje dat je echt even moet bekijken. Er zijn maar weinig mensen bestand tegen al deze verleidelijke afleidingen…

Sterker nog, verschillende studies hebben aangetoond dat werknemers ongeveer 3 uur per dag aan sociale media besteden. Dan hebben we het dus over 21 uur per week! Dat is echt een hele hoop tijd die je ook aan nuttigere dingen had kunnen besteden.

Oké, hoe pak je die productiviteitskiller nu aan?

Je kunt natuurlijk met jezelf afspreken dat je maar 1 keer per dag kort je social media checkt. Voor sommigen werkt dat misschien, maar niet iedereen heeft zoveel zelfdiscipline (ik in ieder geval niet!). Zelf gebruik ik liever wat zwaardere methodes om mijn social media-gebruik in toom te houden.

Een app die daar goed bij werkt is news feed eradicator. Deze Chrome-extensie vervangt je hele Facebook-timeline door een inspirerende quote. Weg afleidingen! Als er niks meer is om op te klikken, word je niet langer meegezogen in de vele afleidingen die Facebook te bieden heeft.

Een andere goeie is Cold Turkey, een programmaatje waarmee je niet alleen websites kunt blocken, maar ook applicaties (zoals je e-mailclient of een spelletje op je computer). Het handige van dit programma is dat je zelf schema’s kunt instellen. Bijvoorbeeld, je kunt aangeven dat tussen 10 uur ’s ochtends en 1 uur ’s middags Facebook, Twitter en Nu.nl geblockt moeten worden op je computer. Je kunt nu simpelweg de geblockte websites en applicaties niet meer openen.

Met deze hulpmiddelen kom je niet meer in de verleiding en hou je je gebruik van social media in de hand!

Berichten

Je wordt de hele dag gebombardeerd met berichten. E-mail, Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, Twitter DM’s…

Dat je die berichten krijgt en er iets mee moet doen, dat hoort er nu eenmaal bij. Maar er efficiënt en productief mee omgaan, is een tweede.

Veel ondernemers laten hun mobiele telefoon en e-mailclient de hele dag aan staan. Dan ben je wel goed bereikbaar, maar het vervelende is dat je dan wel om de haverklap wordt lastiggevallen door notificaties. “Pling!”, je krijgt een berichtje. Probeer de verleiding dan nog maar eens te weerstaan om te kijken wie het is en waar het over gaat.

Vaak zijn het privéberichtjes die je alleen maar van je werk afhouden. Maar zelfs als het alleen maar zakelijke berichten zouden zijn, is het nog enorm afleidend.

En om je gelijk maar uit de droom te helpen:

Multitasken is een illusie.

Veel mensen denken dat ze meerdere dingen tegelijk kunnen doen. En dat ze die dingen dan ook allemaal goed doen. Helaas is dat toch echt een illusie.

Als je ergens mee bezig bent voor je werk en je krijgt een mailtje binnen dat je even gaat bekijken, verlies je de focus op waar je mee bezig was. Je switcht naar je e-mailclient, kijkt naar het berichtje en gaat het lezen. Goeie kans dat je denkt: “o, snel even een reply sturen”. En voor je het weet zit je een lijvige e-mail te typen en keer je na 10 minuten weer terug naar je taak. Totdat je “pling!” weer een berichtje krijgt…

Ik denk dat je wel inziet dat dit heel inefficiënt werken is. Je verliest telkens weer de focus op je werk en het kost elke keer weer tijd om terug te gaan naar waar je eigenlijk mee bezig was. Mensen denken vaak dat ze heel goed bezig zijn door verschillende dingen tegelijk te doen, maar in de praktijk gaat dit enorm ten koste van je productiviteit.

Om jezelf niet meer in de verleiding te brengen en complete focus op je werk te houden:

Zet je telefoon in de vliegtuigmodus. Of demp alle meldingen. Of leg hem in een andere kamer.

Dat scheelt alvast een hoop onrust. Zonder al die piepjes en berichtjes heb je geen last van afleiding meer en kun je veel productiever werken.

Hetzelfde geldt voor je e-mailclient. Zet die uit terwijl je aan het werk bent en check je e-mails maar enkele keren per dag (bijvoorbeeld ’s ochtends, begin van de middag en eind van de middag).

Probeer altijd maar met één ding bezig te zijn. Doe je de administratie of ben je een blogartikel aan het schrijven voor je website? Zet alle afleidingen uit en hou je alleen maar bezig met die ene taak. Je zult merken dat je veel sneller en productiever gaat werken.

Wees voorzichtig met het excuus dat je “altijd bereikbaar moet zijn” en dat je die notificaties niet zomaar uit kunt zetten. Is het echt zo belangrijk dat je binnen 5 minuten op iemands berichtje moet reageren? Dat kan ook wel eventjes wachten.

Tip 2: gebruik deze hacks om productiever te werken

Vaak zijn een paar kleine dingetjes alles wat je nodig hebt om een grote verandering te realiseren. Met deze twee simpele hacks schroef je razendsnel je productiviteit op!

Hack 1: de pomodoro-techniek

Afwisselen van werk en rust is essentieel om productief te zijn. Ongetwijfeld heb je zelf al eens uren aan een stuk gewerkt en merkte je dat je concentratie steeds minder en minder werd. Mentale inspanning is ook inspanning! En je focus wordt nu eenmaal minder en minder, hoe langer je bezig bent.

Met de pomodoro-techniek wissel je werk en rust af in vaste blokken. Op die manier verhoog je je focus en ben je veel productiever bezig. Het gaat zo:

Kies één taak om aan te werken
Stel een timer in voor 25 minuten (bijvoorbeeld deze pomodoro-timer)
Werk aan je taak tot de timer afgaat
Neem 5 minuten pauze
Herhaal stap 1-4 nog drie keer, gevolgd door een pauze van 15 minuten

Het is aangetoond dat je op deze manier veel efficiënter en productiever werkt. Je zult merken dat je veel meer gedaan krijgt!

Vergeet ook niet om alle andere afleidingen uit te schakelen. E-mailclient afsluiten, telefoon op vliegtuigmodus, en niet even snel Facebook checken. Je bent alleen maar bezig met deze ene taak!

Hack 2: van uren tellen naar activiteiten bijhouden

Productiviteit wordt meestal afgemeten aan het aantal uur dat je hebt gewerkt op een dag. Heb je bijvoorbeeld 8 uur gewerkt, dan heb je het gevoel goed en productief bezig te zijn geweest.

Maar een belangrijkere vraag is natuurlijk: waar heb je die tijd precies aan besteed?

8 uur werken klinkt leuk, maar als je daarvan 2 uur hebt besteed aan het beantwoorden van privé-berichtjes en het surfen op social media….dan klinkt die 8 uur in een keer niet zo indrukwekkend meer.

Met de app Rescue Time zie je precies hoeveel tijd je aan welke activiteiten besteedt. Je ziet gelijk hoelang je op Facebook en je favoriete nieuwssite hebt gezeten (hint: hoogstwaarschijnlijk te lang).

Inzicht in waar je precies je tijd aan besteedt, is cruciaal om effectiever te gaan werken. Het is een echte eye-opener om met statistieken en grafieken te zien wat je precies doet op een dag. Rescue Time is de perfecte tool om je productieve tijdsbesteding te verhogen en je improductieve tijdsbesteding te verminderen.

Tip 3: doelen stellen

Doelen stellen is een uitstekende methode om gestructureerder en beter te werken. Als je exact voor ogen hebt wat je wilt bereiken, weet je waar je het voor doet en kun je echt ergens naartoe werken. Dat levert een enorme hoeveelheid extra structuur, motivatie en focus op!

Je kunt doelen stellen voor je werk, maar ook voor je persoonlijke leven. Ga van groot naar klein en begin met het stellen van jaardoelen. Stel bijvoorbeeld het volgende lijstje op:

Hou het lijstje kort en overzichtelijk. Je moet het niet moeilijker en uitgebreider maken dan nodig is.

Zet gewoon je belangrijkste doelen voor het jaar op een rijtje en schrijf ze op een lijstje dat goed in het oog ligt. Als je je doelen regelmatig voor je ziet, hou je de focus. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld denken aan een digitale post-it op het beeldscherm van je laptop. Een app voor deze sticky notes is ingebouwd in nieuwere versies van Windows. Je kunt je doelen ook op een whiteboard in je werkkamer schrijven.

De volgende stap is om voor de kortere termijn doelen te stellen. Zet elke maand specifieke doelen op een rijtje die je die maand wilt bereiken.

Aan de hand van je jaar- en maanddoelen kun je vervolgens weekdoelen gaan opstellen. Ga er elke zondag voor zitten en plan je week vooruit. Dit kost je hooguit een half uurtje van je tijd en je gaat er veel effectiever door werken.

Als je concrete doelen stelt op de korte en lange termijn – jaar, maand en week – weet je altijd wat je prioriteiten zijn en waar je naar toewerkt. Deze doelen zijn ook in overeenstemming met elkaar: je week- en maanddoelen helpen je uiteindelijk om je jaardoelen te bereiken.

Met je doelen ben je klaar voor de volgende stap op weg naar meer productiviteit: je dagen indelen.

Tip 4: je werkdag inplannen

Het ligt voor de hand, maar als je je werkdag van tevoren inplant, ben je gestructureerd en werk je een stuk effectiever.

Toch doen veel ondernemers dit niet, omdat ze het te veel moeite vinden. Of omdat ze denken dat je moeilijk werkdagen kunt inplannen, omdat er altijd wel onverwachte dingen tussenkomen.

Oké, niet alles valt 100% goed in te plannen en er kunnen dingen tussenkomen die je aandacht vragen. Maar een goed uitgedachte planning is cruciaal om productief te werken. En als je ergens niet aan toekomt, dan schuif je het gewoon door naar de volgende dag.

Je jaar-, maand- en weekdoelen kun je goed gebruiken om je werkdagen in te plannen. Grote doelen verdeel je in kleinere taken die je uiteindelijk brengen waar je zijn wilt.

Maak je dagplanning minimaal 1 dag van tevoren. Wat ook goed werkt, is dat je op vrijdag of in het weekend alvast alle werkdagen van de komende week inplant.

Je kunt hiervoor je agenda of een notitieblok gebruiken.

Zelf geef ik de voorkeur aan een digitale to-do-app. Dat werkt het snelst en het handigst. Mijn favoriete app is Todoist.

Je kunt echt alles met deze app. Taken toevoegen, projecten maken, zoeken in je taken, verschillende prioriteiten aan je taken geven…

Je kunt Todoist ook gebruiken om je taken op datum in te plannen. Zo zie je gelijk wat je taken voor die dag zijn. Ook heeft de app een handig overzicht van alle taken voor de komende 7 dagen. Voilà, daar is je overzichtelijke weekplanning!

Een van de handigste features vind ik dat je taken automatisch terug kunt laten komen. Als je bijvoorbeeld elke laatste vrijdag van de maand je administratie wilt doen, voer je dit in de app in.

Vervolgens komt de taak vanzelf in je week- en dagplanning te staan als het weer tijd is om je administratie te doen. Zo kun je alles supermakkelijk inplannen en vergeet je je taken nooit!

TIP: stel de homepage van je internetbrowser in op je favoriete digitale to-do-app. Zo zie je gelijk je taken voor de dag/week elke keer als je je browser opent.

Tip 5: de beste tools om productiever te werken

Er zijn heel wat tools en apps die je helpen om productiever te werken. Ik raad je dan ook zeker aan om er een of meerdere te gebruiken.

Om te voorkomen dat je door de bomen het bos niet meer ziet, kun je het beste beginnen met het uitproberen van 1 of 2 apps. Als je gelijk begint met meerdere apps is het te overweldigend en ben je te veel tijd kwijt om ermee te leren werken.

Begin in ieder geval met een app die je het meeste helpt om productiever te werken. Als je nog geen planningsysteem gebruikt, staat een to-do-app met stip op 1. Die is eigenlijk onmisbaar als je beter en productiever wilt werken.

Dit zijn mijn favoriete productiviteits-apps:

TodoIst

Een fantastische app waarin je simpel en snel al je taken kunt invoeren. Projectmanagement, prioriteiten stellen en een week- en dagplanning opstellen: het kan allemaal.

De app is gratis en er is ook een betaald abonnement als je meer mogelijkheden wilt. Maar voor de meeste gebruikers is de gratis versie al meer dan voldoende.

Evernote

Evernote is een app waarin je notities kunt schrijven. Ideaal om je ideeën op te slaan die je dan later weer kunt uitwerken.

De app is ook beschikbaar voor je smartphone en synchroniseert automatisch met je andere devices.

Buffer

Met Buffer kun je gemakkelijk al je social-media-accounts beheren. Je kunt meerdere accounts in één dashboard managen, gemakkelijk artikelen delen die je tegenkomt op internet, en berichten/statusupdates inplannen.

Met Buffer wordt zakelijk gebruik van social media veel efficiënter en bespaar je een hoop tijd.

Sticky notes

Gekleurde digitale post-its voor op het bureaublad van je PC of laptop (beschikbaar in Windows 7 en latere versies). Ideaal om je taken of doelen op te schrijven. De sticky notes zijn altijd zichtbaar dus je kunt het niet vergeten en je wordt regelmatig herinnerd aan je taken en doelen.

Rescue Time

Inzicht in waar je precies je tijd aan besteedt.

Een echte eye-opener en cruciaal om effectiever te gaan werken!

Pomodoro-timer

Met de pomodoro-timer kun je efficiënter gaan werken volgens de pomodoro-methode: 25 minuten werken en 5 minuten pauze. Gebruik de digitale timer of een kookwekker.

Cold Turkey

Met Cold Turkey zijn afleidingen geen probleem meer.

Met deze app block je probleemloos alle afleidingen op je computer die je van je werk afhouden.

Je hoeft niet alles meteen te implementeren. Begin met één methode en kijk wat de effecten zijn. Werkt het goed, ga er dan mee door. Werkt het niet, probeer dan een andere methode. Voeg vervolgens andere productiviteitsmethodes toe totdat je het voor jou perfecte systeem te pakken hebt.

Om meer gedaan te krijgen, hoef je helemaal niet harder te werken. Echte productiviteit bereik je vooral door slimmer te werken. De truc is om meer te doen in minder tijd.

How does Game Theory Function in the Sharing Economy?

The Independent recently published an article that describes how a major failing of the sharing economy is that it’s built on trust. People aren’t necessarily trustworthy, and sharing services will fail if they take trust for granted.

Why can’t people be trusted?

The concept of a “zero sum game” means that in order for someone to get a bigger piece of the pie another person has to give up some of their own.

What if, instead, the two actors could mutually benefit? When both parties benefit from a transaction the situation is called “win-win”.

The conclusions from the game about the nature of trust are:

REPEAT INTERACTIONS

Trust keeps a relationship going, but you need the knowledge of possible future repeat interactions before trust can be established.

POSSIBLE WIN-WINS

Each participant has to believe that the game can have positive results for both players. Such a ‘win-win’ scenario provides incentive for participants to trust one another as they are working towards a mutually beneficial outcome.

LOW MISCOMMUNICATION

Miscommunication breaks down trust, but it helps to be forgiving and patient if incidents aren’t too frequent.

So how does this relate to the sharing economy?

The sharing economy facilitates win-win scenarios between participants. For instance, a person can earn money lending out their car when they aren’t using it, or rent out their home when they are on vacation. In order for these transactions to take place, however, each participant must have reason to trust the person on the other end of the exchange.

Trust profiles and insurance definitely helps build trust on a few different levels, but that only goes so far. It’s up to the transaction participants to play nice with one another.

When two people have never met, how do they trust each other in a given transaction? They can read reviews other strangers have left on their platform profile and learn about the other person’s transaction history and past behavior. Research shows that people have a tendency to trust crowd-based ratings for both products and services – ratings about individual people are no different.

Positive reviews bolster the standing of sharing service participants who engage in safe, enjoyable transactions. The threat of negative reviews, and consequently a decreased likelihood that others will want to engage in a transaction with such a person, also encourages good behavior. This Illustrator created Freelancer Achievement Stickers, and we all need them

Jeremy Nguyen, a Brooklyn based illustrator, and cartoonist broke the internet yesterday when he published his newest designs on The New Yorker. The drawings are just like scout patches. The twist here is that instead of showing of survival skills and camping accomplishments, the stickers pay tribute to day-by-day freelance challenges. For an instance, you have the ‘went outside’ achievement, ‘good behavior during skype session” or even ‘read and understood the whole contract’.

As more people work in a flexible way, even corporate employees start to relate to the stickers. Nguyen also works as an independent cartoonist with the project ‘Stranger Than Bushwick’, which you can check out on his Instagram. The illustrator also posts smart and beautiful comics on The Nib, a collective of authors who speak about what is happening right now in the world.

We played Jori to connect our team, and here is how it went

Last week, Ants, from Enspiral was at the Social Impact Factory. As we spoke about all the awesome stuff that is happening around the world, Ants told me about a Brazilian guy who moved to Berlin and had a hard time connecting with people. As Joriam (the Brazilian guy) is a creative guy who designs game, he decided to create a game for people who want authentic connections. The game is made to escape the ‘what do you do? Where are you from?’ script. And it does this superbly.

Here is how the game works. You have 40 cards. 20 with weird questions and 20 with profound questions. Finally, to test it, I asked two of my colleagues, Lenneke and Nynke, to play it with me. And here is what we found out about each other.
