MY KDP SELECT EXPERIMENT, PART 2

I'm currently in the process of running an experiment, and if you haven't read the first post in the series, you can find it here .

So, a quick intro for those still unsure what KDP Select is. KDP is Amazon's self- publishing program. So far it has opened up publishing to indie (independent) writers all over the world, and some has had great success. To name a few: Amanda Hocking, John Locke, J.A. Konrath, E.L. James (yes, that's the mommyporn writer), Hugh Howey... I could go on and...

A dying planet - Excerpt from Aurora

AURORA is now out in ebook format (kindle), and will hopefully be out in paperback by the end of September. If you haven't picked it up yet, you can get it from Amazon. Here 's the US and international link, and my UK readers can get it here .

In today's excerpt from AURORA, the third one so far, we go to a dying planet, thousands of years ago, far far away from both Earth and Aurora. Lifebringer.

Lifebringer, the rogue planet that ended its lone journey through space by annihilati...

AURORA is out!

Aurora, the second book in the Exodus Trilogy is out, and available for Kindle from Amazon. The paperback will be out soon, and I'll let you know as soon as it is. US and international readers can get it here. UK readers can go here.

Here's the blurb and cover:

On Aurora, humanity's final outpost is heading for disaster.

In 2080, the starship Exodus left Earth, carrying some 1600 people, to give humanity a second chance. Now, in 2245, the colonists are trying to bui...

The Governor - Excerpt from Aurora

There are always at least two sides to every story, and when I wrote Aurora I decided to try to get inside the head of the antagonist a bit more than I did in Exodus. So I wrote a few scenes from George Havelar's point of view. What's interesting is that when you try to see the world as "they" do, you start to realize that perhaps it's not that the "bad guys" are inherently bad, but rather that they see the world differently than you do, which leads to a different course of action.

Then again...

Breaking and entering - Excerpt from Aurora

Well, it seems the editing of Aurora is about finished. As I've mentioned in a previous post, due to issues outside of my control, the publishing will have to wait until September 1st, but I'll be posting a few excerpts while we wait.

So without any more from me today, here's a scene starring the enigmatic Thomas Dunn:

The night was warm, and there was a sweet scent to the air, even through all the filtering and decontamination, clean and almost flowery. Aurora was a beautiful place, an E...

MY KDP SELECT EXPERIMENT, PART 1

First of all, how do you like my new website design? Just got to hand it to the guys at hostbaby they're awesome, and their customer service is great!

So, over to the main topic of this blog post; KDP Select. For those of you who don't know, KDP Select is a program in which Amazon, the world's largest retailer, gives authors certain promotion opportunities in exchange for exclusivity for a period of 90 days. Since first hearing about the program, I've been a skeptic, since I generally don...

Reaching out

First of all, for those of you waiting for AURORA, it is currently in the middle of editing. My editor Shelley Holloway has done an amazing job with the manuscript and now it's my turn again. We tend to go back and forth a few times, but the first passes are the ones that take the longest, since that's where the biggest problems are tackled. I am planning its release in August, so hopefully the long wait will soon be over! I'll tell you more about the experience writing AURORA later.

In the me...

Accolades for Exodus:

"Wow! I was truly impressed by this book. I love when science fiction writers combine science, politics and psychology. For me the mix was just right"

"This book is science fiction in great form. It doesn't just make you think about the future, it really makes you think about the world around you today"

EXODUS, second edition - why and how?

First of all, EXODUS, second edition is now avaliable on Amazon, having gone through a thorough edit. It's still no bestseller, but in indie publishing it's the "long tail" that counts (Sales in the long term, basically. And yes, I'll come back to the "why indie" part, as I guess a few of you are wondering about that). Having said that, in the days since it first went live, which is about a week, it has sold about the same as the first edition did in almost a year. If that says anything...

A dangerous idea

As some of you know by now, I've been working on re-editing Exodus, and it is almost ready - just a few more days to go before it's out there! In the meantime I have another little piece for you, a small sample from the final version. This is an excerpt from chapter four, in which Trevor Hayes, National security advisor, and one of the main characters from the book, meets up with someone with a dangerous idea.

The balance between freedom and security is an extremely important...
