Hello everyone,
So next week Im hoping to do something very exciting, which is to launch my first ever Kickstarter project. Its to fund the first 200 copies of my new book. For those of you who have never heard of Kickstarter its crowdfunding and it works like this... for a limited time you can make pledges for rewards (for example a signed copy of the book) and if enough people pledge then the project goes ahead (and there can even be additional rewards offered once the target is met), if not then the project is cancelled (as, if I only print a few copies the book is not really affordable as it is full colour).
Anyway there are some very limited edition rewards, including having one of your pictures and a line of text included in the book itself so Im going to give everyone who receives my newsletter the shout as soon as the project launches. (Itll take a bit longer for it to reach my blog!)
There are pledges from 1 to 5,000 so I do hope youll take a look and every pledge will be truly appreciated.
The project hasnt been approved by Kickstarter yet, so it might not happen, but if it does youll be the first to know (well - if youre reading my newsletter!) I may even do a live event i.e. come and join me in a cafe with WiFi to watch the progress... its all evolving!
Oh and heres a little video about spas I shot at the weekend. Merton is just full of beautiful locations.

Hello everyone,
So last week I was off at a business conference and this guy was extolling the value of YouTube videos and I was feeling like yeah, I know this... I do this. ...and then I checked out my YouTube channel and realised I hadnt posted in SIX MONTHS! Whoops! (Do you ever get that feeling when you look at your reward card?)
So this is me desperately trying to catch up with, in no particular order, a video from my Tuesday night class, from Wimbledon Park Hall, a video about writing your first book (I realised last week I am a publisher - only took me 6 published books to work it out - took me about 3 years to realise I was a Zumba Instructor!) and Ill be posting more in future so do subscribe to get updates.
If you want to add any comments to the videos... maybe you attend that class or another one in that hall or its one you want to try... do feel free - but remember I pre-approve all comments on class videos (I am very protective of my bear cubs i.e. anyone in my class and I know that unfortunately there are trolls out there - ooh it sounds like a fairy tale). But you can write what you want in the ones with just me - I dont take it personally!
Believe - Saturday 2nd July 8pm
So a few of you have been asking about Believe this year - yes it is on, and the incredible Beto will most likely be in the house and I would always recommend you attend anything he is doing.
Its taken me a little bit of investigating but the party is at Troxy nightclub, tickets 35 in advance (there are some double and ten pack tickets but these may have already sold out) and 40 on the door (if there is space). Now there was some confusion about the time of the party, which is because the Zumba Instructor Academy is actually running at Troxy this year (its been at the Excel the last two years) and so the day is just for instructors, and they will be in the venue early because of this. So the party is due to start around 6pm and then doors should open at 7pm for party ticket holders only. But remember this is a big event and we are often on Colombian time, so double check. You can buy directly from Maloca UK http://www.malocauk.com/shop/?category=BELIEVE - I am still humming and hawwing about attending, attending the whole day... not usually this indecisive but a lot going on at the moment! Anyway if you are interested come and have a chat with me, its a tricky one to organise as I might be there before you but if I am going we may be able to organise a group taxi or some such thing, or you know you could organise and just invite me for a change!

Just pay the regular price on Paypal and show up to take your class whenever you like - no need to advise the date anymore. Ah, the simple life.

That I love London so!
Im even going to trawl through the election guide in order to vote later (thats dedication; to sully my pristine lady hands with politics!)
Anyway, its been a busy old time what with the lovely Bank Holiday and this Election and Im also working on a new book (guess what, I can write a book so fast that I took it to another level and made it more difficult for myself - youll see what I mean when I finally figure out what the front cover should look like!)
I have been asked by a few people about toning sticks (as were now including a little extra toning in Zumba Gold classes). If you do want to buy a pair of the sticks, as they are slightly worn I am selling them at 12 a pair (not including the purple ones - those bad boys are mine!)
If you missed it, here is the escape I am currently offering (most weekend dates are available this summer - by arrangement).

Hello everyone,
Its so lovely to be back (not that gadding about in Vegas and then sunning myself in the desert werent fun). If you didnt catch my last newsletter (it was very exclusive) then please be aware that I have postponed Thursday night salsa classes for the time being as I have a lot of other things I want to focus on right now. First of which is a new escape, as I really feel that so many people are struggling to disconnect and get away from it all - Ive seen some crazy things in even the most remote areas that people will do to get a WiFi connection - and yet Im also feeling that so many people struggle to connect with the person sitting next to them even at a networking event, retreat or yes, even in Zumba class or Convention.
Born To Be Wild
Theres more coming too - this last trip has really unlocked my mind (Prince would be happy) and my heart, but you know one mind blowing escape or such thing at a time. This is the view from the Cosmopolitan pool (sublime or ridiculous depends on your viewpoint). The Cosmopolitan has been voted the no.1 hotel in the world (Ill be the judge of that as Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous would say). Ill be honest I didnt care for it (although I didnt actually stay there) and got lost quite a bit looking for the spa when coming from the front entrance. Luckily when I was staying at the Vdara (potential to be the best hotel in Vegas for sure) the spa was easy to find from the back entrance, and the spa is excellent (if you are just going for facilities Canyon Ranch edges it out) and the aromatherapy massage was superb - however I didnt like having to hold my breath and run from the lift to the exit of the parking lot to avoid cigarette smoke when leaving (did I, of course I did - am I embarrassed about a little thing like running through the casino floor holding my nose?)
Need A Speaker?
If you are looking for a speaker for an event or group then Id love to know. Pearl Escapes is all about helping people escape, not just fitness or healthy eating (although, of course I can talk about that too) so if youd like to hear more about spas, massage, amazing escapes around the world, or even how to organise and book your travel to make the most of your time and budget, Im your perfect speaker.
Changes to Reward Program
I know that Ive probably worried a few people by talking about changing the reward program, but although I havent done a big overhaul yet its likely to be small changes. I like the simpler model I have now of just a band, then socks, then T-shirt and I do like having a few options that I prebuy just in case, however Ill probably be looking to reduce the number of things I prebuy in future.
The big changes I am making are that in future, when you get your 15 or more to spend on zumba.com I will be passing on the postage cost to you, especially if items need to be sent back as sometimes this leaves me quite out of pocket, especially if I order something for one person each week rather than being able to group together with my own order.
Another big change I am thinking of is offering you the chance to use that 15 or more to go on Pearl Escapes - which means that you could use that discount for a spa break or even my Born To Be Wild escape - but again, something I need to figure out as I may not be able to afford to run it if everyone has a discount, so it might be like reward flights - i.e. a couple of spaces on each escape may be reward spaces. Lots to think about! (Oh yes, it was quite exciting thinking about travelling first class with my Virgin airmiles even though it didnt happen this time!)

Mea Culpa or My Bad
Whoops! After printing leaflets, posters and big old signs promising everyone who came to class for the first time in March a free bag or water bottle I keep forgetting to give them out in class when you come!!
I am so sorry!
If you have just started classes please do remind me - I love giving out presents - and if you miss me (I'm off on hols 3-15th April) I'll get them to you just as soon as I get back!
Walking the Walk
I know... I'm always talking about escapes, taking time out, taking things at your own pace and then I find myself - either when work gets tough or when I take a holiday realising just how little I am following my own advice. I have not had a massage since my New Year escape!
Mea culpa (again!)
So I love when I do get to take time off and know that I am 100% walking the walk, relaxing, enjoying the moment, getting massages, learning, soaking up everything amazing about the places I go. It's what reinvigorates me and makes me fall in love with my day to day practice again.
And good news! I'm taking you all with me, well, I'll be sharing the trip with you - not only when I get back but also in my Instagram posts. I won't be on email or responding to texts, but I like to share "postcards" with family and friends!
Not all my escapes are right for everyone - you may hear about it or see a photo and be truly bored. I'll be honest, there are classes I've taught which have gone horribly wrong and not worked for the people in the class at all (it happens less, but it still happens) and sometimes it takes us 3-4 weeks to fall in love with a track, but I keep trying - it's really intuition, guesswork and experience (i.e. what has worked before but might completely let you down with a new group). Sometimes experience is nothing more than an assumption - but that worked so well with my Tuesday class - you should love it! Hey ho.
But, here's the thing, I invited everyone on this trip (seriously) and I'm the only one going. And that's great, because I think I was meant to take this trip alone. (I'm believing more and more in destiny as I get older.) But everyone was invited - like my classes, there's no selection process, no prerequisites, like becoming a Zumba Instructor, the door is open to everyone.
That doesn't mean it's right for everyone or that you would like it - that's a guess until you land (I might hate it!) but remember when you see anything, not just my posts but anything on magazines, TV, social media and it makes you light up, stay with it. Don't shut it down with an "I can't" or an "I couldn't" (I mean, really if I asked you to do any of the moves we do in class you'd probably say you couldn't - but we don't think about it, we just do and then we look back and say "wow, I just did that".) So just stay with it, and reflect on it - is this my dream, something that speaks to my heart, or is it just great advertising? Is this my heart's desire or just something I would like to impress people with? (It's a trap and we all fall into it!)
Stay with it, if it speaks to your heart, don't shut it down, let yourself dream, let yourself play with it, let yourself live into it, make space for it, save or earn for it, whatever it is, no matter if everyone thinks you're crazy or out of your league, (even if you sometimes think you are crazy or out of your league), because dreams really do come true. Vegas has been my dream for such a long time and now I get to live my dream and my heart is singing.
Anything is possible.

Salsa Classes start Thursday 21st April
Im excited and nervous about starting teaching salsa classes in Wimbledon Park at the Estella Tapas Bar (across the street from Wimbledon Park Hall) so am offering a special Satisfaction guarantee - if you dont feel you got enough out of the class you get your money back, no quibbles.
The classes will be very different to my Zumba classes...
Its partner dancing - bring a partner or find one there, you are very welcome to dance with anyone you like, it doesnt have to be someone of the opposite sex, and if you cant find a partner unfortunately youll get me!
The session will last 2 hours (no squats!) with around an hour of practice time and an hour of instruction. So it will be 8-8:30pm practice and freestyle, 8-30-9:30pm instruction and 9:30-10pm practice and freestyle.
Its a very small space so we have around room for 16-20 people, you can buy your ticket in advance with Estella Bar or with me and its first come first served.
Oh, and its 7 per person and feel free to dress up! You can book direct with me or in the bar.
And theres a bar and a restaurant so you can enjoy a proper Latin night out!
The main focus of the classes will be building up your confidence to dance with a partner and dance freestyle, rather than following a choreography or an instructor.
Its not about perfecting a step or dancing the same as anyone else but about learning trust and finding your own way of moving inside the music.
Oh and having fun, of course.
Afternoon Tea Wednesday 20th April
Jasmine at Arthurs is creating a special afternoon tea for us on Wednesday 20th April at 3pm which will include savouries (Ive asked her to include her incredible quiche), cakes (all home made) and, of course, tea.
The price will be 7.50 and please do book with me as soon as you can, we can cater for up to 30 but the sooner Jasmine knows numbers the more creative she can be with our special afternoon tea!

Pearl Escapes Philosophy
This last year has been an amazing learning curve for me, I realised that my role in life (and in my business) is helping people feel alive. Its such a simple thing, except that the human experience is often anything but simple. And as I sit here at the end of term feeling just a bit burnt out, I know that I am out of balance and need to go find that feeling of aliveness and joy for myself if I want to keep bringing it back to classes and the rest of Pearl Escapes. (Dont worry, Im sure Ill find it over the Easter weekend or, if not, on hols!)
Anyway this is something Ive been working on - trying to put into words the feeling of an escape and why we sometimes get so turned around. Read it (or you know - you can just skip it and enjoy this lovely video x.)

Salsa and Teas
Yes, last week I teased you with salsa, now I can announce both details of the salsa classes and also an afternoon tea I am holding for everyone - one is daytime, one is nighttime - something for everyone!
Losing the class at the Acacia Centre has happened very suddenly and so I wanted to do something nice for everyone to soften the blow, and also entice all the class participants to come over and check out Wimbledon Park Hall and, of course, Arthurs Cafe, who take such good care of us each week. And, as with all our socials, create an opportunity for everyone to get together and meet participants from other classes.
New Zumba T-shirts - My Moves, My Rules!
Yes, we LOVED the new multi-pack T-shirts from Zumba, so I am doing a special offer of only 10 at the moment for anyone who cant wait to fill up their reward card to get one! Check them out in class - they are getting even more adventurous! I loved the Get Funked Up ones which look fantastic and and now this time we have purple and blue as well as black!
More On The Acacia Centre
I completely fried my brain yesterday at the meeting to discuss what is happening at The Acacia Centre. It seems such a simple thing, to book a room, to run a class, and it is... in some places. In others I get bogged down with politics and words like remits, budgets, stakeholders. Gah!
I am going to keep working with, well, everyone to hopefully get more Zumba Gold and Zumba Gold chair classes running in the area, and putting in my two pennies worth about the changes, so please stay tuned, but my big take aways from the very long and impassioned meeting were this:-
Its not personal, the Majestic room will cease to exist, our exclusion has nothing to do with the age of our group.
Its a juggernaut. And the people on the front desk have no authority in this matter.
The mums and families who use the centre are also devastated that it is no longer Intergenerational, but a Childrens Centre - they will sorely miss us.
Funnily enough my mum recommended watching something on Henry Marsh (check out his video on Newsnight - its on YouTube) a brain surgeon who has just quit the NHS mainly because of the issues he faces every day - not how to operate on a life threatening brain tumour - but dealing with the red tape of making sure there will be a bed for that patient to recover in, or being stressed about being followed by management consultants dressed as nurses checking that doctors are following the mandated 22 page dress code. Hes now off teaching new surgeons (and occasionally operating) in Nepal and the Ukraine. As he says hes passionately in love with brain surgery, not so keen on bureaucracy.
Thankfully I dont have to go quite that far to carry on doing what I love without having to deal with all the politics.

Sad News from The Acacia Centre
So, I am extremely sad to announce that as of the end of March we will no longer be holding classes at The Acacia Centre in Mitcham. It is, for me, the end of an era as this was the very first place I started teaching my own classes over five years ago now, I remember vividly my first two participants and well, lets just say that first class resembled in no way what I do now (it was much for like a salsa class - more on that later!)
It was also where I taught my first Zumba Gold class and my first weekly Zumba Gold chair class. I feel that its where I became an instructor.
I want to honour all the support I have received from the Centre over the years, they gave me a chance when no one had heard of Zumba or Zumba Gold, let alone Zumba Gold chair (some Zumba Instructors still dont know about it!) as well as the many, many wonderful people who have come to classes there over the years.
But, what was the Acacia Intergenerational Centre is now the Acacia Childrens Centre and the focus has changed. Things change.
But so have I (and no doubt you... and my very first students are actually younger now than they were when they started!)
With my small business head on I want all my students to keep coming back (and bring their friends) and keep all my classes and just keep getting bigger and bigger... but with my Zumba Instructor, my Pearl Escapes, my most wonderful head on I know thats not what its all about. I want to inspire you (and be inspired by you) and that happens when we let go... for a little while so we can go and have adventures (and I love hearing about all the adventures you guys have), or forever when we realise that the practice is no longer serving us all (when I lose a space, when a participant becomes an instructor or finds a new class that suits them better or when they follow their dreams and move away). Its not easy. I feel like this last year has been all about letting go for me, and its tough and sad... but essential.
It was much easier when I quit my job because the whole thing had become a nightmare.
Its much harder to let go when you still enjoy something, when you know youre going to miss it, but you feel somewhere inside that its the right thing to do.
If you do come to the Acacia Centre I am so sorry, and I hope youll come along in the next few weeks to make the most of what I plan to make unforgettable classes to celebrate the end of an era. If you are a driver I am hoping to encourage some of you to team up and ride share over to Wimbledon Park Hall on a Monday - as I know that public transport will not work for some of my Zumba Gold chair participants, but there is blue badge parking available, the centre is wheelchair accessible and we have a fantastic cafe.
Im also going to be thinking up some other ways to thank you and hopefully entice you along to my other classes - Id hate to stop seeing you!
But... and this is me with my wonderful head on, I am also talking to another Zumba Instructor about possibly setting up another Wednesday morning class in the Croydon area which might suit you. Its time for me to start sharing more.
If you would like to talk about the changes at the Acacia Centre Allison Jones, the Service Manager, will make herself available on 16th March between 1.00-2.00pm at Acacia to take people's feedback and answer questions. (In addition, people can provide feedback via comments cards or by following the councils complaints and compliments policy.)
Salsa Tease
Yes, among other things that I am working on I am planning a regular salsa night - a chance to get out, get dressed up, freestyle and yes, dance with partners. It will be a late one, it will be in the Wimbledon area and it will be after I come back from the States in April. It is a small space so will be bookable in advance and Ill let you know when were ready to go!
Need A Speaker?
If you are looking for a speaker for an event or group then Id love to know.
