Salsa and Teas

Yes, last week I teased you with salsa, now I can announce both details of the salsa classes and also an afternoon tea I am holding for everyone - one is daytime, one is nighttime - something for everyone!

Salsa Classes start Thursday 21st April

Im excited and nervous about starting teaching salsa classes in Wimbledon Park at the Estella Tapas Bar (across the street from Wimbledon Park Hall) so am offering a special Satisfaction guarantee - if you dont feel you got enough out of the class you get your money back, no quibbles.

The classes will be very different to my Zumba classes...

Its partner dancing - bring a partner or find one there, you are very welcome to dance with anyone you like, it doesnt have to be someone of the opposite sex, and if you cant find a partner unfortunately youll get me!

The session will last 2 hours (no squats!) with around an hour of practice time and an hour of instruction. So it will be 8-8:30pm practice and freestyle, 8-30-9:30pm instruction and 9:30-10pm practice and freestyle.

Its a very small space so we have around room for 16-20 people, you can buy your ticket in advance with Estella Bar or with me and its first come first served.

Oh, and its 7 per person and feel free to dress up!

And theres a bar and a restaurant so you can enjoy a proper Latin night out!

The main focus of the classes will be building up your confidence to dance with a partner and dance freestyle, rather than following a choreography or an instructor.

Its not about perfecting a step or dancing the same as anyone else but about learning trust and finding your own way of moving inside the music.

Oh and having fun, of course.

Afternoon Tea Wednesday 20th April

Losing the class at the Acacia Centre has happened very suddenly and so I wanted to do something nice for everyone to soften the blow, and also entice all the class participants to come over and check out Wimbledon Park Hall and, of course, Arthurs Cafe, who take such good care of us each week. And, as with all our socials, create an opportunity for everyone to get together and meet participants from other classes.

Jasmine at Arthurs is creating a special afternoon tea for us on Wednesday 20th April at 3pm which will include savouries (Ive asked her to include her incredible quiche), cakes (all home made) and, of course, tea.

The price will be 7.50 and please do book with me as soon as you can, we can cater for up to 30 but the sooner Jasmine knows numbers the more creative she can be with our special afternoon tea!

New Zumba T-shirts - My Moves, My Rules!

Yes, we LOVED the new multi-pack T-shirts from Zumba, so I am doing a special offer of only 10 at the moment for anyone who cant wait to fill up their reward card to get one! Check them out in class - they are getting even more adventurous! I loved the Get Funked Up ones which look fantastic and and now this time we have purple and blue as well as black!

More On The Acacia Centre

I completely fried my brain yesterday at the meeting to discuss what is happening at The Acacia Centre. It seems such a simple thing, to book a room, to run a class, and it is... in some places. In others I get bogged down with politics and words like remits, budgets, stakeholders. Gah!

I am going to keep working with, well, everyone to hopefully get more Zumba Gold and Zumba Gold chair classes running in the area, and putting in my two pennies worth about the changes, so please stay tuned, but my big take aways from the very long and impassioned meeting were this:-

Its not personal, the Majestic room will cease to exist, our exclusion has nothing to do with the age of our group.

Its a juggernaut. And the people on the front desk have no authority in this matter.

The mums and families who use the centre are also devastated that it is no longer Intergenerational, but a Childrens Centre - they will sorely miss us.

Funnily enough my mum recommended watching something on Henry Marsh (check out his video on Newsnight - its on YouTube) a brain surgeon who has just quit the NHS mainly because of the issues he faces every day - not how to operate on a life threatening brain tumour - but dealing with the red tape of making sure there will be a bed for that patient to recover in, or being stressed about being followed by management consultants dressed as nurses checking that doctors are following the mandated 22 page dress code. Hes now off teaching new surgeons (and occasionally operating) in Nepal and the Ukraine. As he says hes passionately in love with brain surgery, not so keen on bureaucracy.

Thankfully I dont have to go quite that far to carry on doing what I love without having to deal with all the politics.

Need A Speaker?

If you are looking for a speaker for an event or group then Id love to know. Pearl Escapes is all about helping people escape, not just fitness or healthy eating (although, of course I can talk about that too) so if youd like to hear more about spas, massage, amazing escapes around the world, or even how to organise and book your travel to make the most of your time and budget, Im your perfect speaker.
