Interview & Giveaway - A Hero Rising by Aubrie Dionne

2.What genre do you write?
Primarily fantasy and science fiction. But, I am working on a contemporary romance- my very first one!
3.Please tell us about your latest release, A Hero Rising, and how you came up with the idea?
I’d just finished Tundra 37, the second book in the series. I’d left one of the characters stranded without the happily Ever After that he deserves, so I decided to follow his story with a prequel book.
4. Is it part of a series?
Yes! It’s the prequel to the largest series I’ve ever written: The New Dawn series.
5. A must have snack while you write.
Candy and chocolate.
6. A fact that someone might not know about you.
I had my appendix out a few years ago. I’ve always had an ugly outy belly button until that. Now I have a nice, inny belly button! I love to show it off!
7. If you had to choose a favorite book that you’ve written, which would it be?
It would be my very first Space Opera- Nebula’s Music (Now only 1.99 on Amazon!). I wrote it with reckless abandon without thinking of any parameters or consequences and it is CRAZY. I love it.
8. Advice to writers who have yet to be published.
Write every day! If you write 1k a day for a year, you’ll have 4-6 novels!
9. Is there a genre you haven’t written yet that you want to?
I’m exploring contemporary romance right now, but I’d also like to try steampunk or a time travel story about the Titanic!
10. Any quirky habits?
When I get stuck on a story, I go for a walk or do laundry, then the story comes back to me and I know what to do next. Magical laundry time.
11. Have you written a character that most resembles you?
They all have a piece of me in them- even the bad ones!
12. What type of hero do you enjoy writing about?
A strong female protagonist!
13. What are you currently reading?
I just finished Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson and I loved it. So dark beautiful, primal, and clever.
14. What are you currently working on?
My contemporary romance, which I’m trying to pitch to Entangled Publishing’s Bliss line.
15. Anything that you’d like to share.
Thanks for having me on your blog today!
About the book After watching his love leave on a colony ship, James Wilfred must save those left behind from a planetary apocalypse. Worse, crazed moonshiners addicted to the chemical Morpheus have stormed the city, and she must find a safe place for her and her boyfriend’s daughter. When a heroic man saves her, Skye asks to accompany him on his quest to find the last colony ship left on Earth.
As the city falls around them, James and Skye must work together to build a new future, all the while rediscovering their ability to love, before the apocalypse claims them both.

Guest Post - At Sunset - Tamaria Soana
Tamaria is a dear friend of mine. Welcome her as she chats about her latest release, At Sunset.
AVAILABLE NOW for purchase! AMAZON / NOOK / SECRET CRAVINGS
I wanted to write a story about two friends from a small town going on vacation for the first time together. Kimberly my heroine has just broken up with her cheating boyfriend and just wants to forget about the opposite sex all together. Her best friend Amber has other ideas on how Kim should heal her wounded heart, like a vacation fling.
The first day at the beach Kim notices the very hot lifeguard. Amber can’t seem to convince her that he seems interested in her.
When a mishap in the water brings Kim and Daniel face to face sparks fly.
As I wrote At sunset I remember my first vacation with a friend, I was twenty-one and we went to Daytona Beach. In my case no vacation fling happened, we just had a great time hanging out at the beach and bar hopping! So maybe this story was what I wished happened ;)
At Sunset is told from Kimberly point-of-view only. I’m going to write a sequel called After the Sunset, this will be in Daniel my heroes point-of-view. After the Sunset will start a few weeks after At Sunset.
I’m giving away a FREE digital copy of At Sunset today. To enter to win leave a comment with your email address!
At Sunset
Two women, Myrtle Beach, sexy lifeguards—what more could a girl ask for?
Kimberly doesn't believe she could attract the handsome lifeguard sitting on the stand keeping a keen eye on the beach patrons. Muscular, lean and sexy, surely he's not looking at her, but when a beach accident brings them eye-to-eye, she finds herself lost in his gaze.
Daniel works everyday watching the beach-goers, keeping an eagle eye out for problems along the white sandy shores. Sexy women capture his attention on a daily basis, but no one grabs him like Kimberly. Gorgeous and curvy in all the right places, he can't seem to keep his mind on the business at hand as she tans herself in the hot summer sun.
Can the pain of past relationships be overcome for two strangers to find love at Sunset?
Excerpt
Kim sat up after about an hour to grab the water bottle out of her bag. She looked around and noticed the lifeguard glancing in their direction. Obviously, he was looking at Amber. No one ever noticed her when Amber was around. Amber was drop-dead gorgeous, with a killer body, and Kim thought of herself as just an average looking girl. She was five foot three with light brown wavy hair, hazel eyes, and a small frame. She felt that her breasts were too small, and she hated that her body didn't really have many curves. At twenty years old, she wished her body was more shapely. Out of the corner of her eye she watched the beautiful blond lifeguard scan the crowd as she pulled her hair up into a bun.
“Amber, I think that blond lifeguard over there likes you. He keeps looking over here,” Kim said, as she nudged her friend out of her sleepy state.
“Who? What? Where?” Amber replied, looking around as she sat up.
“Over there.” Kim pointed just as he turned his head and caught her pointing at him. She ducked her head and blushed in embarrassment.
“Um, Kim, I think the hot lifeguard likes you,” Amber giggled.
“I...I don't think so. No one's ever interested in me.”
“Kim, stop it. You’re beautiful. For some reason you’ve never understood that.”
Kim shook her head. Amber just didn’t understand because she was beautiful and men noticed her all of the time. “There is no way he would be interested in me. Just look at him. He could have any girl here.”
“Yes, he could, but he seems to have his eyes on you.”
Kim was happy when Amber dropped the subject. She adjusted herself on the blanket and closed her eyes. Images of the blond lifeguard fluttered through her mind. She sighed as she pushed all thoughts of him away. Guys like him never went for girls like her. Kim couldn’t settle her mind down and get comfortable; she needed to get away from what was causing her to feel so flustered.
“I’m hungry and I think I’m beached out for the day,” Amber stated as she sat up.
“Me too. Let’s call it a day and get something to eat. Maybe we can play miniature golf tonight or something.”
As Kim and Amber were packing up, Amber poked her.
“What the hell, Amber? That hurt.”
“Look! Mister hot, blond lifeguard guy is watching you. You should go talk to him.”
“Have you lost your mind?”
“You need to live a little and take some chances.’
“Whatever.”
“You’re impossible. I hope he’s working tomorrow, because you need to meet him.”
“Why? We live states away from each other. Even if he was interested, why bother?”
“Oh Kim, you’re so in need of a hot summer fling. When was the last time you got—”
“Shut up!”
Kim was seething. She loved Amber but the girl never knew when to stop pushing. Amber looked at her and just shook her head.
“You know the best way to get over a guy is to get under another,” Amber said for the umpteenth time as they headed toward the rental car.
“Really Amber, your advice to me is to get laid? So having sex with some random guy will magically heal my heart and make forget about Michael?” Kim snapped.
“I’m sorry. I’m only trying to help.”
“I know, and I love you for it. Just back off.”

Character Interview with author Elise Whyles (Five Alarm Lust)

2. Do you have a nickname? What is it, and where did you get it? Naw, I don’t have one. Always figured Jack was my nickname – and honestly, it’s the only thing Gillian cries out so I’m happy with it.
3. Where do you live? Describe it: Is it messy, neat, avant-garde, sparse, etc.?
At the moment we live in a single story rancher. Insanely neat, with a western feel to it. Gillian redecorated, and keeps it up. She can be a bit of a slave driver when it comes to keeping it clean, especially if she’s upset.
4. What was your family like?
Amazing, warm, I had a great family. Mom and Dad supported everything I did – well as long as it was legal and didn’t hurt anyone lol.
5. Who was your best friend when you were growing up?
Luke Marshall, he was and still is my best friend, besides Gillian. Funny, with a sharp tongue he’s the greatest guy I know – if only he’d quit hitting on me .
6.. Do you have a job? What is it? Do you like it? If no job, where does your money come from?
I work at a local firestation as a firefighter. I’m in the process of opening a Fire Prevention store here in Drumheller as well.
7. What is your favorite drink? (Coffee, Coke, Juice, Beer, Wine, etc.) Coffee followed by beer.
8. What is your deepest, most well-hidden sexual fantasy? Would you ever try it?
Nothing like asking the hard ones huh? Deepest, sexual fantasy. That’s an easy one…trying out those lovely silk ties Gillian bought last week. Oh yeah, silk ties, a little whip cream, some candles…mmm maybe we’ll do that tonight.
9. Is there any sexual activity that you enjoy and/or practice regularly that can be considered non-standard? (Bondage, Fantasy Play, etc.) Why do you like it?
We do a bit with mild bondage and Fantasy Play, it adds spice to our romance, to our sex lives. When we first met, bondage was sort of the only way we could keep Gillian from hiding lol.
10. Is there any sexual activity that you will not, under any circumstances, do?
If Gillian says no to something I won’t do it. So far the only thing she’s refused to try is anal, and honestly, it doesn’t bother me. I want my lover to want to be with me in bed, not wanting to just get in, get off and get out.
11. What is more important - sex or intimacy? Why? Intimacy – without it, I don’t think Gillian and I would have ever connected as much as we have. I love sex, hot sweaty bodies tangled – but I love Gillian more and I can’t have her without that intimacy.
12. How old were you when you first got drunk? What was the experience like?
Fifteen and I don’t remember much other than having a killer hang-over and throwing up in the barn.
Did anything good come out of it? Did anything bad come out of it?
I didn’t touch alcohol for two years after that, and even now I only drink in small doses.
13. What was the worst injury you've ever received? How did it happen?
Broken wrist. Fell from a ladder when I was in my early twenties.
14. If you were to gain an obscenely large sum of money (via an inhertiance, a lawsuit, a lottery, or anything else) what would you do with it?
Invest it. I believe fire prevention and helping people is more important than a fancy house. Why Gillian and I decided to open a shelter for battered women and kids.
Five Alarm Lust Blurb Available now for purchase!
Survivor Gillian Hilliard is finally healing from a nightmare past. Fearing no man will ever find her attractive, she hides behind simple attire and large glasses. When Gillian meets firefighter Jack Payle, she is instantly attracted, and enjoys a wild night of sex with him. But in the cold light of day she’s torn apart by guilt and shame, and retreats to the familiar comfort of her simple, if unfulfilling, life.
After years of chasing the wrong kind of woman, Jack is shocked by the instant attraction he feels for the mousy historian with shadows in her eyes and passion simmering beneath her surface. Jack can’t get past the lust firing his blood or the memories of her response to his touch, for passionate, sexy Gillian is everything he’s ever wanted. Are they strong enough to face down the demons haunting Gillian? Can she trust the man who holds her heart with her darkest secrets and accept his help to overcome the shadows of her past? Or will the darkness destroy them both?

Don't Rush It!
So you finished your book. Now you want to polish that baby up and turn it in! SLOW DOWN! Don't rush. This isn't a race.
Ok, so I need to take my own advice sometimes. Its thrilling when you finish your story and you want to get it into your editors/publishers hands right away. But you know what, your editor most likely wants you to take your time. The sloppier the copy you send, the longer edits are going to take and it might even push off that release date.
I just finished the last book in my Hot Bods Series. The third book published in June 2012 and I had hoped all four books would release in 2012. Well, we don't always get what we wish for, do we? Its doubtful Opposite's Attract will hit reader's eReader's until early 2013. Even if I got this sucker spit shined today. I am slightly dispointed I didn't get the book done when I wanted, but life happens. And a lot of life has been happening here lately. I have learned a great deal in this past year. And I have been that author to finish a story and have it to my editor a week later. And when that manuscript came back with basic mistakes, I was embaressed! I thought, I should know this by now. And yet, I keep doing it over and over. And I often times thought, I rushed this. I wrote it, did a read through, and turned it in. Then spent several long and intense rounds of editing polishing it up. And as my writing improves, so do the lengths of my stories, which mean longer hours of editing.
This time, I want to turn something in and my editor gets a break!
The best piece of advice I can give, is to let that manuscript sit as long as you can. A week minimum before you even touch it again. If you can make it a month, great...but let's be honest, that's really hard. So a week to two weeks. Then open it and read it word for word. Look for words you used close to one another over and over...I am very guilty of this. And once you finish that round, if you don't have a deadline you have to hit, let it sit a week again. And read that sucker again. If you have a friend who can read it fairly quickly for you, send it to them to use their editing eye.
Just remember, the time you take before turning in the story will make all the difference to your editor and less work when the edits come in. You do have another story to write after all, do you want edits you should have caught before to interfere?

Finding Home- Available Now! #romance #contemporary #pregnancy
Available Now!
Julie Miller has returned to her home in Brookfield, Wyoming after discovering she is pregnant. All she wants is her mother to comfort her after her boyfriend told her to either have an abortion or leave. The only problem is, when she gets to her mother’s house, she doesn’t find her mom—she finds a half-naked man cooking breakfast.
Mark Thomas has moved to Brookfield to escape his past. He needs a fresh start to try and forget the things that haunt him, and Brookfield seems like the perfect place.
As if it isn’t bad enough that Julie doesn’t find her mother, a blizzard buries the town, and she is snowed in with Mark. Leaving them no choice, they begin a friendship while trying to resist the attraction they feel for one another.
Once the snow melts, Julie is free to leave. Will she choose to start a life in Brookfield or run back to New York? Meanwhile, Mark struggles to let go of his past and, if he does, is Julie his future?
AMAZON Excerpt The sun shined brightly through the windows. Julie wished now she had noticed the blinds were open last night. Pulling the sheets over her face, she closed her eyes for a few more minutes as she tried to wake up.
Finally, after battling with herself, she climbed out of the bed. She put her jeans back on and then pulled her hair up in a ponytail. A sudden urge to use the restroom took over, and she rushed toward the bathroom. This was something new—no bladder control. She didn’t expect to already have to pee so much.
She quickly brushed her teeth then made sure everything was tidy as though she hadn’t been there. Grabbing her suitcase, she left the room. She expected to find Chloe up front, but she was nowhere to be seen. So she stopped by the front desk and scribbled a note, thanking Chloe for the stay and saying they would talk soon. After all, she was going to need someone during this process. As young girls, she and Chloe had always gotten along.
Outside, the sun was bright. There was a chill to the air, however. The few clouds in the sky were thick and fluffy. She bet there would be a light snow shower before the day was over. In fact, she was surprised to not see any snow on the ground yet. It would be anytime now.
The drive to her mother’s house was short. She lived on the older side of town, and it was unchanged except that the trees had gotten taller.
Julie was excited to see her mom. It had been almost a year since she’d seen her. Julie had flown her out last Christmas to visit her in New York City. She’d taken her mother everywhere, showing her every tourist spot there was to see. Her mother had loved it and said it had always been a dream of hers to travel. Julie hoped one day her mother would get to. Her father had died about ten years ago, and her mother had never remarried. She had a few close friends, though, and maybe one day they would all get together and travel.
But for now, Julie needed her mom. She couldn’t wait to have her mother embrace her and hold her tight, telling her it would all work out.
She pulled up to the house. It looked the same. A small ranch-style home painted a light blue color. It was time for a fresh coat of paint, that was sure. Perhaps she could get someone out here in the spring to spruce the place up. Her mother’s car wasn’t in its usual spot but instead pulled over near the picket fence. A pick-up truck sat where the car was usually parked. Maybe something was wrong with the vehicle, and she was borrowing the truck.
Climbing out of the car, Julie could smell bacon. A smiled crossed her face. Her mom was cooking breakfast. Shutting the car door quickly, she went up the front steps two at a time. As she turned the doorknob, she found it locked. Groaning, she dug through her purse until she found the key to the house and let herself in.
Loud music blared through the house. It was set to a local country station. This was so unlike her mother. In fact, as Julie looked around the living room and saw how untidy it was, she wondered if she was in the right house.
Following the smell of food, she stepped into the kitchen. Julie froze. A half-naked man stood at the stove, flipping pancakes. It was as if he sensed he was no longer alone. He turned, and Julie thought she was going to faint.
“Hi,” the man said.
“Who the hell are you, and where is my mother?” Julie demanded.

Interview: Kristy Centeno - Call of the Wolf

I’m a hard working mother of four and the eldest of four children. I was born in a small City in a Caribbean island some twenty something years ago and moved to the USA when I was four. I developed a love for books even before I could read them and my parents encouraged my passion by supplying a healthy amount of books, which I read often.
2. What genre do you write?
Paranormal Romance, Erotic Romance, Horror, Young Adult.
3. Please tell us about your latest release (insert title) and how you came up with the idea.
Call of the Wolf, which was released on July 13th, is my debut novel. The plot for this book was actually born out of an idea I had one night while I was lying in bed. For some crazy reason I cannot yet explain, I had the sudden flash image of this odd looking vampire with long white hair and pale blue eyes standing in the middle of the woods, staring at a young werewolf female who had no idea how to identify his supernatural nature. When this crossed my mind I began to imagine how to play with that concept and make it work into a story. A few months after that, Call of the Wolf was completed.
4. Is it part of a series?
Yes. The Forbidden Mate series.
5. A must have snack while you write.
Usually it’s a granola bar and a glass of cold water.
6. A fact that someone might not know about you.
When things get too stressful for me I tend to procrastinate : )
7. If you had to choose a favorite book that you’ve written, which would it be?
Yes, Enchanter. The concept for this book developed so quickly and so suddenly that for the entire time I was writing it, I felt as if the main characters were actually relating the events I was typing down. The storyline is different and something I’m sure readers will enjoy. Hopefully, as much as I do.
8. Advice to writers who have yet to be published.
Believe in your stories because if you don’t, no one else will. And most importantly, never give up. No matter how many road blocks you get to, there’s always a way around them.
9. Is there a genre you haven’t written yet that you want to?
Absolutely, historical romance. Because these stories usually require a lot of research, I am not able to sit down and write a historical romance novel right now, but I hope to be able to have plenty of free time in the future for a project as complicated as this one would be. But I love a challenge so we’ll see how things go.
10. Any quirky habits?
Yes. I unconsciously move my right foot up and down when I’m engrossed in something.
11. Have you written a character that most resembles you?
Yes, Marjorie Emery from Secrets of the Moon. Well, the things she does resemble me more than her physical appearance.
12. What type of hero do you enjoy writing about?
The ones that are the complete opposite of me.
13. What are you currently reading?
Angel’s Heart from Lisa Bilbrey.
14. What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on book two of the Forbidden Mate series called Day and Night.
About The Book

Victoria Bonvalet, a purebred werewolf, has no desire to mate to an alpha not of her choosing and after a one of a kind encounter with the mysterious blood lord Tristan Garland rattles her existence, she knows that she could never share any part of herself without love being the number one incentive.
Tristan, a vampire of over a thousand years, no longer cares much for the world or the creatures inhabiting it. But when he meets the beautiful she-wolf invading his deep woods territory, he realizes that it’s never too late to find your perfect match, even if she belongs to the opposite branch of all mythological beings. But even as they begin to explore their in-depth feelings for each other, can they find a way to be together without starting a war between two enemy species?

Self-Publishing
So many changes are going on right now in my world of being an author. With one of my publisher's closing down, its left me with a lot of options. And after much consideration, I've decided to take the two stories, Sarah's Chase and Finding Home and go the self-publishing route. Each of these books had a partner book that was getting ready to release. And the last thing I wanted to do was have to put all of these stories on hold. Also, I had a short story in the Love, Again anthology, titled Wanted: Wife. The story was a big success and I think I am going to turn this short story into a full-length!
I have to wait for Sarah's Chase to finish out in the current KDP program its in on Amazon and then I will get the rights back. Also, I have the rights back to Finding Home and I hope to have a new cover soon. My goal is for Finding Home to be available to read again by the end of next week. I of course have had to change names, the city the book takes place, and a few other details since it will no longer be a part of the Clearwater Series. The new series is The Brookfield Series. And I'm thrilled to be starting my own sweet series and to have full control of them.
This is a big step for me. And I can't wait to see where this journey takes me! It might be a bit of a bumpy road, but I've got the shocks to handle it. :) As I have more details, I will let you know.
