July news

I always have a hard time being creative when I’m in edits, and I’ve had a ton of edits lately.
Anyway, next week the kids and I are headed on vacation to visit some family at the beach. My hubby is taking a long business trip, so what better time to escape to the beach and get in some family time? I’m looking forward to seeing my nephew and nieces, watching all the kids play, and get some time with my sister-in-law.
I hope you’re having a great summer and getting in some fun times. I’d love for you to comment and tell me what you’ve been up to.

True Love in Laguna - Available Now! Read Chapter 1!

Laguna Beach was as gorgeous as Amber had described it. He’d never seen anything like it and couldn’t wait to explore Amber’s hometown. He wasn’t sure how long he’d stay; that would be determined as time went on.
He squinted against the bright sun, frustrated that his sunglasses still sat on his counter at home. He wrinkled his nose at the stink that emanated from the seats of the taxi and he couldn’t wait to breathe some fresh air. The AC wasn’t working properly and the driver didn’t seem to be bothered one bit. He had a fan plugged in, pointed at himself, as he hummed along with some tune on the radio.
“We’re almost there,” the driver said as he flipped on his blinker.
William pulled his phone from his pocket and texted his cousin.
Almost to my hotel. See you and Tyler tomorrow.
She responded right away. Can. Not. Wait!
Amber had moved out here almost two years ago for a job and she’d fallen in love with Laguna Beach. And with Tyler. He could see why she fell in love with Laguna Beach. The town was set up in a way that just flowed. People walked from shop to shop, not something he saw often in Morgan, Massachusetts.
He tried not to think about home. The last year had not gone as planned and being away from Boston made him feel like he could breathe.
“We’re here.” The cab driver stopped the vehicle.
William handed him cash then climbed out of the car, grabbing his luggage he’d had in the backseat with him. He shielded his eyes with his hand to block the sun and took in the hotel he’d be staying at, The Mondrian Laguna Beach. He’d always loved reality TV—a guilty pleasure—and heard one of the stars from Laguna Nights worked here. If he was lucky, maybe he’d catch a glimpse of her. Then again, his luck had sucked recently, so there wasn’t much chance of that.
He walked inside the hotel and stood in the short line at the registration desk. Amber had told him this was a popular hotel, and she’d been right. He finally reached the desk, poised to give the desk clerk his name when the man excused himself and went into the back.
What the heck?
William waited patiently for a few minutes, but the man didn’t come back. He scanned the reception area, surprised at the absence of hotel personnel. It was his damn luck that as soon as it was his turn to check in, the clerk would up and what…quit? Go to the restroom? I can’t catch a break these days.
The door to the back swung open and William was ready to give whoever it was a piece of his mind, but his breath caught at the sight of the dark haired beauty who emerged.
“I’m sorry about that, sir.”
Her eyes were as green as the grass on a warm summer day. He’d never seen anything like it. “Are those contacts?”
“Excuse me?”
“I’m sorry. Your eyes. They’re so green.”
She smiled and brushed her bangs from her eyes. “They’re all mine.”
“I’ve never seen a pair as beautiful as yours.”
Her cheeks went deep pink. He liked that he could make this beautiful woman blush. “Thank you. So, uh, are you checking in?”
“Yes.” He pulled his wallet from his back pocket. “William Springs.”
She typed on the computer then took his ID. “Do you have the credit card with you that you used to book the room?”
He handed it to her and a second later she gave it back.
“All set.” She grabbed a room key and wrote a room number on the envelope. “Room 417.” She pointed. “If you take that elevator, it’ll take you to your room. Enjoy your stay at Mondrian.”
“Thank you, and I will.” He let his gaze drop to her breast where her nametag read Harper Powell.
He grabbed his suitcase and wheeled it toward the elevator, strategizing when he might see her again. Her eyes captivated him—he could get lost in them for hours at a time. He took one last look over his shoulder, pleased that she still stood at the desk, watching as he walked away.
Shit, he didn’t have time to fall for a woman. Not after the last one he’d been so sure had liked him, only to find out she was still in love with her ex.
***
Harper clocked out, so glad the day was over. It had been a hell of a day. The hotel currently had limited occupancy due to renovations. Ever since the public had discovered the Madison Alcott worked there, star of Laguna Nights, this had been the place to stay. With the extra money, the hotel owner decided to start some of the renovations that had been put off, but unfortunately, the company they hired had quit mid-project.
People came by all day, trying to catch a glimpse of Madison. Harper loved Madison. She was the sweetest person she’d ever met and wanted nothing to do with the fame. She was very down to earth, but since having her child, she wasn’t around as much.
Harper wandered out onto the back patio and sat down in a lounge chair, staring out at the ocean. The skies were so gorgeous in the evenings the way the oranges, reds, and purples mixed to paint the horizon. She shivered as a cool breeze blew across her arms. She glanced over her shoulder, seeing a man sitting nearby, his eyes closed. She remembered him from when he’d checked in earlier. His accent led her to believe he was from the northeast. The weather forecasted rain showers over the next few hours, and she figured with the time change and jet lag, he might be out for a while.
She went over to him, touching his shoulder. “Excuse me, sir.” He didn’t stir, so she shook him. “Sir.”
His light eyes opened and he stared at her with confusion.
“I’m sorry to disturb you, sir. It’s going to rain soon and I didn’t want you to get wet.”
He rubbed his eyes. “Crap, I didn’t realize I fell asleep. I closed my eyes for just a second. Harper, right?”
He knew her name? Damn, someone had found her when she’d been trying to maintain a low profile. “Yes. How did you know?”
“I remembered it from earlier when I checked in. I read your name tag.”
“Oh.” She smiled, glad he knew her name for that reason, and not the one most people did.
“I’m William Springs. You probably don’t remember me.”
She moistened her lips. She did remember him. He’d taken her breath away when she’d first seen him. His hair had that shaggy look that fell just above his eyes and he could swoop it to the side. She wanted to run her nails through it to see if it was as soft as it looked. He was handsome and fit, with thick arms. Holy shit, he was toned.
“So, what brings you to Laguna Beach?”
He straightened the T-shirt that clung to his biceps. “My cousin is getting married.”
“Great place to get married. Is she holding it on the beach?”
“I think so. I didn’t really ask.”
She didn’t want to seem stalkerish, admitting that she might have checked his record when he checked in. “How long are you staying?”
He sighed with irritation. “Good question. I lost my job before I came out here. The company I worked for was downsizing and I got canned.”
“That’s horrible.”
“I know. I might take the much needed time off to enjoy myself here before heading back to Massachusetts. I have a scheduled flight back, but I may cancel it.”
“I love your accent. It’s adorable.”
He grinned. “Is it?”
Her cheeks warmed. “Yes. I like it.” Her gaze caught with his. “So, anyway, what did you do before losing your job?”
“Construction, but I specialized in remodels.”
She straightened. “Really?”
“Yes. Not the most glamorous job, but I enjoyed it. I applied for an open position with another company I worked for prior, but I doubt I’ll get the job.”
“How come?”
He grinned. “I used to date the owners wife. Well, she wasn’t married to him before. When we dated, I mean. Liam won her, but her heart was always with him. I didn’t stand a chance.”
“I hate to hear that.” She had her own experience being with a man whose heart belonged to someone else.
“It’s okay. It was a while ago. I’m over it.”
“Well, you’re timing is perfect. We’re renovating parts of the hotel, a bit at a time, and the current company quit. I’d love for you to look at some projects we have around the hotel, if you’re interested.”
“I wish I could help, but I don’t have a crew or anything.”
She hadn’t thought about that. “I understand.”
“I’d still have a look though. Maybe we could get dinner or lunch sometime…to discuss it.”
“I’d like that.” She couldn’t recall the last time she’d been on a date. He was handsome and from out of town, so she could fully let loose and have fun before he left. No strings, no attachment.
Maybe that was what she needed. William was sexy and seemed interested. He was perfect to help her dip her toes back into the water as she got over her own past and moved forward.
“Can I get your number?” he asked.
She told him and he typed it into his phone before sending her a text with a smiley face.
“I’ll call you,” he said, laughing and looking up as the rain drops started to fall. “I’m glad you woke me up.”
He stood and she tipped her head back to look up at him, not remembering him being quite so tall. “Well, you’re very welcome. But now we better get inside.”
They hurried inside before the sprinkles turned into a down pour, William holding the door for her as she hustled out of the rain. Now she just had to get to her car without getting soaked.
“You have a nice evening, William. I’m headed home. Enjoy your stay at the Mondrian.”
“It’s already been very pleasurable.”
She turned, hiking her purse up on her shoulder, and wandered toward the double doors of the hotel. She hoped he did call and wasn’t one of the many guys who claimed they’d call but never did.

The nice guy gets the girl....

I'm so excited to share this story with you. Readers met William, the hero in True Love in Laguna , in The Maddox Brothers , Part 2 - Liam's story. The Maddox Brothers is a book I co-wrote with Ella Jade about two brothers--two very alpha brothers--who were set in their bachelor ways. In Liam's story, William is dating Chelsea, only Chelsea kinda still has a thing for Liam.
Poor, poor William. But don't worry, he isn't going to be lonely long. You're going to enjoy his story as he leaves Boston and heads to Laguna Beach, California. And if you read The Maddox Brothers , you'll get a little update on Hudson and Kennedy. As well, Liam and Chelsea make an appearance! Woot!

Harper Powell has kept to herself since dating a reality star and getting dumped publicly. When meeting William at the hotel she works at, she is instantly attracted to the visiting stranger. He’s only in town temporarily, so this might be her chance to have some fun without getting hurt again.
When it’s time for William to leave, he isn’t sure he can. After all, there is nothing at home waiting for him, but in Laguna Beach, there is and her name is Harper. And if you haven't met William yet in The Maddox Brothers , here is a little bit about that book. The Maddox Brother blurb

Successful brothers Hudson and Liam Maddox are living the lives they’ve always dreamed of. Neither is looking for a relationship, more interested in keeping their single status with the ladies. That all changes when Kennedy and Chelsea enter their lives.
Hudson
Hudson has been focusing on his career and building a solid business in the real estate industry. The charismatic attorney has recently been named the most eligible bachelor in town. He's never been interested in settling down until he collides with the easy going Kennedy. She invades his orderly life in a matter of days. Has this carefree younger woman been what's missing in his meticulous world?
Liam
Content with his life, Liam has built his own construction business and takes pride from it's excellent reputation. After having his heart broken years ago, he’s decided not to take any relationship too seriously. But then the woman who tore his heart up years ago returns and hires his company for her home renovations. Trying to keep his cool around Chelsea is damn near impossible. All he has to do is complete the renovation and then never see Chelsea again. As if it was that simple.

Author QA
What was the hardest part of writing this book?
I’m a mom and I work two jobs. My daughter has some health challenges that inspired what happens to Chessa, the heroine’s teenage daughter. Taking care of my family is my top priority, but my soul needs and craves the release of writing. This is my therapy. Every time I write a book, I know I am asking strangers to invest the precious leisure time they scrape out of the day and a part of his or her entertainment budget. I want to write the best book I can for that amazing person who is giving me such a big gift. Being a writer is like getting a hug from a stranger every day. I want to hug them back by crafting a story worth reading. As a reader, I take solace in the escape into a story. If the author’s work is subpar, my experience suffers. I don’t want that for my readers. I know how essential the reading experience is to the soul. I can’t do much to make the world better than I found it, but I hope my books can enhance someone’s life each day.
When did you decide to become a writer?
I’ve been an avid reader since I was eleven. The summer I turned twelve I pestered everyone to bring me to the library, but no one would. We lived in the country and it was a trek to the nearest library. My grandmother dumped a huge bag of harlequin romances at my feet and said, “There’s your library.” Looking back I’m shocked she’d corrupt me like that, but I was hooked on romance quickly. I’ve been devouring every romance novel I can get my hands on ever since. A year later I decided I could write a romance novel. Imagine The Blue Lagoon meets Star Wars, it was terrible, but my cousins loved it. They were my first fans and encouraged me to keep writing. When I was thirty I had the standard, I’m not immortal epiphany. I decided it was time to find a publisher and I did. I’ve had over sixty stories published in the last seven years, but this is my first self-published book. Anything else I’ve self-published was a reprint when my rights reverted back. What I love about writing is that I am never able to say I’ve mastered it. My prose improves with every book. I love the challenge of topping the last book. I never compete with anyone but myself.
This book is part of a series tell us about your series.
This is the first book in my Moonlight Series. I’ve created a small Wisconsin town where most of the residence are werewolves. I’ve combined some old Indian legends and fringe archeology to give my werewolves an interesting creation myth. In this series, if you’re bitten by a werewolf you die unless you have a werewolf ancestor on the family tree. The series highlights several couples and the struggles they have for survival and love, but Law Foster and Bianca Archer are in every book. Bianca’s awakening to the truth of Wild Rose Valley is the heart of this series. I really love these characters and I hope you do too.

It's LIVE!!!!! Strangers At The Altar....

A little about Strangers At The Altar. Yes, it's about two people getting married who have never met, matched by a team of experts. Wait...that sounds like a TV show. You're right! I'm obsessed with the TV show Married At First Sight and MAFS: The First Year. I watch it religiously when on, get angry, tweet about, etc.
When I watched season 1, I kept thinking, this would make an awesome book. And each season I thought the same thing and finally thought, why can't I do it? Why am I waiting on some other author to do it, when I can? So, I did it. And I hope you'll enjoy it and it keeps you on the seat of your pants wondering how these two strangers are going to find love, especially with a hero lying about his true identity.

Rich.
Sexy as hell.
Brilliant in bed and business.
Big cock.
So why the hell is it so hard to settle down? I want a woman to see me for who I am, and that’s hard when most only see me with dollar signs in their eyes. So I signed up for some crazy experiment to be married to a stranger. Never knowing a thing about the person.
I was ready for true love. When I married Adeline at the altar, I had to make sure that she didn’t know a thing about me as well. So I did what I thought was best. I lied about who I was.
If we find true love, I’m sure she will forgive me when she learns who I really am.
Content Warning: Explicit sexual content and adult language.

Keeping it real and honest...

I'm going to be real, it makes me sad and hard to sit down and write anymore. I love to write, but in truth, I did get into this to make a career out of writing. And for awhile, I was. And I thank each and every one of my readers. I love you all. I really do. I love to hear how much you enjoyed my books. What it is you like, such as my dialogue, how I describe characters, and so on. It brings me so much joy.

I had to hand that car payment back to him last December. :(
I look at what's changed, why am I not selling anymore, and so on. I hear the advice all the time to keep writing what I love and the sales will come. It's hard not to jump on the trend and follow that, especially when you don't have a day job and this is your job.
There has been some recent discussions over first person vs third person point of view in writing. I'm a third person writer but when I read that readers WANT first person. PREFER it now and often won't touch a third person book anymore, I had to stop and think. Can I still put out the same stories I write but just change the tense? We shall see with my next release.
Depression has set in as well and I haven't been releasing books like I used to, and then I get even more sad. Ugh...it's a viscous cycle. I'm getting ready for my release season, where I got out of my negative talk and wrote for a few months and now that hard work is paying off with some releases. But I'm back in the slump, trying to get my words in while worrying about my future as an author.
Next week Strangers At The Altar releases. July is William's story (True Love in Laguna) from The Maddox Brothers. I'm working my tail off, trying to stay motivated to finish a novella for a bull rider anthology that will come out August 1st. And then the last Carver Ranch will come out in September. All of these were written in winter/early spring. Except the bull rider and I'm pushing hard to fight the negative talk and get this one written.
So yes, a little release season that I'm hoping does well. I should be excited for next week because it's something new I've done and a fresh idea. Instead, I feel like this is going to release and I have to make big decisions about my career based on this book and how it does. I want to feel successful again.
This isn't meant to be a pity post, but I needed to get out how I've been feeling. I'm a writer and I needed to write out my feelings and share them. You see, even though I'm most likely returning to work next school year and writing will become a hobby, it's still my passion. I'm still going to keep writing and hopefully releasing stories you'll love.
It's time for a change and I hope my readers will stick with me even if I put out a few less books a year. Of course, now the idea of finding a job has me on pins and needles too. A little excited about being around people again, hope I'm not too weird.

Can an unexpected baby and a quirky nanny tame a wild billionaire?
I knocked up a twenty year old waitress but in my defense I thought she was twenty-two. Seriously.
It was a sex-fueled fun three weeks with no strings until she got possessive of my time and my money. No one tells me where to be and when to be there and no one is entitled to my fortune. I broke things off and went about my privileged life. She resurfaces nine months later with a baby she claims is mine.
Can we say paternity test? She drops the kid off on my doorstep and leaves. Now I’m in over my head until a hot nanny shows up and all is taken care of. Including me... Chapter One
Kyler
“Please, little guy.” Switching shoulders, I attempted to burp my three month old son Mason. My son? How the fuck did that happen? Well, I know how it happened, but how was I ever going to get used to it? “Cut your old man a break and stop crying.” Glancing at my watch, I frowned. “I have a conference call in ten minutes and your new nanny isn’t here.”
I paced the foyer, silently praying the agency sent over a capable woman to help me out of this jam. I didn’t mean to refer to my son as a problem, it was just, I didn’t expect to be anyone’s father, not at thirty. One week ago at this time I was a bachelor without a care in the world. I did what I wanted, when I wanted, and answered to no one.
Staring down at the little round head that now rested on my shoulder, I still couldn’t believe Mason was mine.
One week earlier...
The doorbell chimed through the house, pulling me from a deep slumber. Fighting off jet lag from my recent trip to NY, I decided to sleep in. I wasn’t alone. I was never alone. The tangled mess of thoroughly fucked red hair was draped over my face. Lola. I grinned when I thought about how many times that little ginger made me lose my load last night. Maybe it wasn’t the jet lag that tired me out. I moved her to my chest, breathing in her sweet scent when that fucking doorbell echoed through the open foyer and right up into my bedroom.
“Expecting company?” Lola mumbled as she cuddled deeper into me.
“Not really.” Stroking her firm ass, I debated letting the idiot outside my front door, unannounced, on a Sunday morning wait for me. When they started banging I was pissed. “For the love of fuck!” I slipped out of bed, threw on my sweatpants and stormed down the staircase, leaving Lola in my warm bed.
This better be important. Pulling open the large, cherry door I stood frozen. What the fuck is she doing here and with...
“Hey, Kyler.” Aimee Monroe looked at me with helpless, tired eyes. Her usually shiny blonde hair was messy and piled on top of her head, strands falling against her neck. “Can we come in?”
We? I glanced down at the tiny baby nestled in the car carrier. Was this supposed to get me to respond to a kid that wasn’t mine?
“Yeah.” Running my hand through my hair, I reluctantly widened the door, taking the diaper bag off her shoulder as she made her way inside. As much as I wanted to I couldn’t take my gaze away from the baby stretching and squirming in the carrier. He focused his blue eyes on me, unsettling me. “What are you doing here?”
“I thought it was time you met your son.”
“When you called me a few weeks ago I told you a paternity test was needed. I’ll have my attorney set something up and then we can go from there.”
Aimee had contacted me out of nowhere telling me about her baby. When I made it clear I wouldn’t take any responsibility until I knew for certain the child was mine. She threw a temper tantrum and hung up. I hadn’t heard from her since so I just assumed she realized her scam wasn’t going to work, and found some other guy willing to take responsibility for a situation he probably hadn’t created either.
“Look at his eyes.” She pointed to the baby. “He looks just like you.”
“Just because we have the same color eyes doesn’t make us related.” I had to stop staring at the kid. It was those blue eyes that were haunting me. They were mine. I felt it someplace deep in my gut. “We were together for three weeks. I used protection. If you want me to believe he’s...” I took a calming breath. “What’s his name?”
“Mason.”
“If you want me to believe Mason is mine and I highly doubt he is because let’s face it, we both know I wasn’t your first or your only.” We weren’t exclusive so she could have been with someone else during our brief fling. “I need proof.”
“You can get your own proof.” She bent down and unbuckled Mason from his seat, picking him up she held him close, kissing his bald head.
“I told you I would. I’ll set something up soon.”
“No,” she raised her voice. “I’m exhausted and you’re no help.”
“How the hell was I supposed to help when I didn’t even know he existed? If you’re so sure he’s mine why didn’t you tell me sooner? Did someone else reject your accusations first and now you’re making your way down the line?”
“I can’t do this.” She held Mason close to her.
“I don’t want to fight with you either. I’ll contact my attorney and I’ll be in touch.”
“I mean I can’t handle doing this anymore.” Her eyes filled with tears. “I’m twenty years old. I just can’t.”
“Twenty?” What the hell? “A year ago you told me you were twenty-two.”
“Did it really matter?”
“That would mean you were...” Ah fuck!
“Kyler?” Lola called as she came down the staircase in my t-shirt and nothing else. “What’s going on?”
“Nice,” Aimee said. “Looks like you haven’t changed one bit.”
“Who is this?” Lola asked.
“I’m the woman he deposited his DNA sample in and left me with a baby.” She pushed Mason toward me. “Here.”
My reflexes kicked in and I cradled the little guy in my arms. He didn’t even open his eyes. “What are you doing?” I asked, terrified of this ten pound baby. When had I ever held an infant? Never!
“Leaving.” She turned toward the door but not before I saw the tears stream down her face.
“Aimee.” Mason jumped in my arms. “Aimee,” I lowered my voice. “You can’t leave him here. I can’t... I’m too busy. I don’t even know if he’s mine.”
When she slammed the door, Mason started crying.
“What the fuck!” I looked to Lola who was now climbing the stairs. “Where are you going?”
“Home.” She glanced over the railing that looked into the foyer. “You’re a little too busy for me. I want fun, sex, parties, alcohol. Not diapers, vomit and babies.”
“Wait.” I chased her up the steps. “I need your help. I’m in the middle of a huge deal to expand my gyms in New York. I have those guys in London interested in opening two facilities. I’m on the verge of signing with that running company to sponsor Team Ky. I can’t take care of a kid.”
“And I can?” She placed her hands on her hips. “I’m hopping on a plane to Milan in two days. I have a runway to walk. I don’t get pregnant for a reason. You should be more careful who you sleep with.” She went to my bedroom and gathered her clothes. “I had a great time this week. New York was fantastic but I’m not interested in a ready-made family.”
“I’m not asking you to marry me.” I shook my head, shuddering at that thought. “Just help me out.”
“I don’t know what to do with that.” She motioned toward Mason. “I don’t even have a dog.”
“Neither do I.”
“Kyler.” Here it comes. It was usually me delivering the blow. “We had an amazing week but I’m not going down this road with you.” She picked up her bag and briskly walked by me. “Good luck. If you get it resolved, call me.”
Like that’s gonna happen. Shallow b–
And here I was, one week later with a kid and a confirmed paternity test. I knocked up a twenty year old nit-wit who just ditched her baby with... me.
“Where is that nanny?” I rocked Mason in my arm as I went over the latest sales report. The numbers for Team Ky, my fitness clubs, were soaring. Everyone wanted to be fit these days and we were reaping the benefits. What started out five years ago as a small time gym where I trained my friends turned into a multi-billion dollar business with locations in most of California was now expanding into New York and London. Two of my biggest deals in one month. Aimee couldn’t have picked a worse time to throw a tantrum. That was why I’d dumped her. She was way too immature for even me. I should have figured out she was younger than she said.
The doorbell tolled throughout the foyer. “Thank God!” I pulled open the door, getting ready to tell my newest potential employee she was late, but when I locked my gaze with her spectacular grey eyes I lost my thought process.
“Mr. Barton,” she said. “I–”
“Come in.”
She hesitated, almost as if my request had taken her by surprise, but she was the one who had caught me off guard. I never imagined the agency would send me this hot, little number in a lavender sundress. How was she going to take care of a baby in those ‘please lick me’ stilettos? Her long, dark hair flowed down her shoulders and to her mid-arms. Nannies were supposed to look like that nun from The Sound of Music or that Brit chick from Mary Poppins. Wait, they were the same person, weren’t they? Who the fuck cares?
The nanny standing in front of me was going to work out just fine.

Meet Isaac from Strangers At The Altar

***
UNEDITED EXCERPT - COPYRIGHT 2016 - LACEY WOLFE
I took a deep breath. It was my wedding day. I couldn’t believe it. The last two weeks flew by. I had to clear my schedule and get some of my traveling out of the way so for the next six weeks, I could spend all my time with her. I had to play the part of a guy in marketing and not a partner at Wright Investments. I hadn’t stopped to think about if she’d recognize me or my name. Hopefully not.
I paced the small room I was in, stopping every now and then to look at myself in my tux. They’d told me she liked deep purple, so my tie and vest were that color. I ran my hand across my short beard. I didn’t have a long one, but I did have a face full of facial hair. Women seemed to love it, I hoped my wife did too. My nerves were getting to me as I fixed my hair for the tenth time. This pacing wasn’t doing me any good. “Isaac.” Dr. Banks stuck her head in the door. “Can I come in?”
“Yes.”
She took a seat. “Your bride is here and almost ready. She’s very nervous.”
“The feeling is likewise.” My palms were soaked and sweat formed on my forehead.
“You are aware that her immediate family is here, correct?”
I nodded. I wouldn’t deny her family the chance to see her get married. I wasn’t evil.
“I think you’re going to be very pleased with our choice, and we thank you for giving us this chance.”
I looked hard at her and asked, “Have you had any success with this yet?”
“This is our first time. You and A…” She smiled. “You and your bride are the first to get married.”
“What about the guy from the other day?”
“His wedding is tomorrow.”
Dr. Banks looked at her phone. “It’s time for you to take your place.”
Oh shit. I don’t think my legs can move. I’m not really going to do this, am I? Marry a woman I’ve never met. I don’t even have a damn prenup because I wanted to make sure she didn’t know who I was. Fuck. This woman will own half of what is mine after she says I do, and she had no idea. And if she leaves me at the end of the six weeks, I have to confess who I am. Then she can take it all from me. Make me have to work hard again to build up my life.
I hadn’t thought this through.
“Dr. Banks,” I choked out.
“Isaac, you’re white as a ghost. Are you okay?”
I shook my head. “I, I, I.” Couldn’t form the words I needed.
She set her hand on my shoulder. “She’s gorgeous as you asked. A great heart. I promise, she is your one.”
“Okay.”
I had to trust them. I’d been honest in everything I wanted in a woman and they had found her. So I needed to go out there and meet her. I followed Dr. Banks out and down a long hallway. I heard someone laugh in a room with the door closed. It was a woman and I couldn't help but wonder, is that my bride?
“Right this way.” Dr. Banks pointed to the the small room, fully decorated.
I couldn’t believe it. The place had been transformed from when I’d toured it last week. Purple, silver, white flowers. This was what she’d been dreaming of and I was so happy to be giving it to her. Making my way down the aisle toward the altar, I saw a woman sitting with a young guy and child. I stepped up on the altar and turned to them.
“Hello.” What else was I supposed to say?
“Hi,” the woman said.
“Are you her mom?”
“Yes and this is her brother and nephew. I don’t know if I can give names. This is new to me.”
I chuckled. “Me too. Looks like we have a lot in common already.”
The brother didn’t smile though. He actually looked pissed. This must not be what he wanted for his sister, but at least he was here supporting her. I wasn’t sure if my family knew about it if they would come. My father would have a fit, no doubt. He liked to keep our name out of the news unless it was positive. Having his son marry a total stranger without a prenup…let’s just say he’d be less than pleased.
The music started and I froze. My bride was about to come out. My feet were lead, even if I wanted to run, I couldn’t.
The doors opened.
There she was.
Holy shit, I’d never seen a woman more beautiful in my life.
What did you think? I can't wait until May 31st!!!
