Pirating a Book vs. Lending a Book
I just watched a great You Tube video and I've posted it below to give this author Sara Humphreys all the credit she deserves. Watch it, it's worth it.
Anyway, the topic of this video was pirating books vs. letting friends borrow books (she discussed difference with paperbacks). And she hit on a great point. And it might not be a way people have been thinking about it in the past.
Yes, it is harder to share a great eBook with a friend. I've read some before and wanted to share them. Typically on kindles or nooks you can share them. Though, some pubs turn the lending feature off, which I think is stupid. But, that's a whole other topic.
Yes, pirated eBooks and sharing one with a friend is different! How so? If you lend a book to a friend, they read it and hopefully love it. They didn't have to pay for it to love it. That's the key after all to letting someone borrow your book. You loved it so much that they HAVE to read it.
Now for someone who pirates a book on a site, not only one person borrows it, but thousands of people borrow it.
Do you see the difference?
Another thing I loved about the video below was how honest the author was on how much money she makes per book. You see, authors aren't rolling in the dough. Big or small, the money you imagine them tossing in the air and rolling on, it isn't there.
I thought I might break something down as well with price.
The eBook is $2.99 - from Amazon the publisher receives $2.06. The author makes typically 40% of that. The author will get 0.82 per book.
The same scenario with a 0.99 cents book. From amazon the publisher get 0.35 cents a copy. And the author receives 0.14.
Do you now see where the phrase "Starving Artist" comes from? This isn't a career to get rich quick. So please, take a moment to watch this great youtube video from Sara Humphreys. And consider signing the petition.

Asking For Help #wwow

Today I am going to keep my post short and to the point. Asking for help!
We all need it. Whether you're published or not, in some way do you need another writer's help. Even if it's just a shoulder to lean on and discuss ideas. Or perhaps you're having troubles with a story and you need someone to talk you through. Sales down, maybe someone can give you pointers. At some point, you're going to need help. And guess what? Authors love to help. Personally, I've never met a group of people who want to help more.
Have a new release and need a few blogs to post spotlights. I guarantee you'll find a few. However, I caution you, if you receive help, offer help in return. Such as "Thank you so much for hosting me on your blog, please let me know if I can help spread the word about one of your releases as well! I'd love to have you on my blog." Just a simple note like that can take you much further. And the next thing you know, you have an instant friend and the two of you are networking!
Another time you need help is usually before you submit. You're never too good not to have a few betas. And sometimes a new beta from your usual ones is beneficial to you. As long as your willing to give someone new a longer time frame and not demand to have the book back in a day or two, I'm sure you can find another author in your genre to help.
While these are just a few ways to ask for help, remember, you're never too good to ask for help!

Taking back the blog!
About two weeks ago, I made a decision about my blog. I want it back!
Okay, so it's always been mine. And I've always enjoyed promoting other authors on it. But I got to thinking, I really wanted my author blog to be a more personal place. Somewhere where readers can connect with me.
So, I created Find Your Next Read. It's a blog (you can get there in the menu header), and this is the place where you can find all my promo for authors. Reviews, guest posts, interviews, and more. All the things there were here before.
Lately I've been reading a lot of marketing books. I've been feeling like my career is in a slump. And I want to get over it, move forward. And now more than ever, I am ready to take those hurdles. I've sat and thought a lot lately about my career and where I want it to take me. I've weighed out different options and I have a plan set in motion right now.
Sometimes the hardest thing is making those decisions. You feel like maybe you should be doing something else, but your heart is telling you something else. Oh, and the muse! I'm determined to make 2013 my year!

Sexy Snippets Sunday - Not Just Friends #sexysnippets

She expected him to open the door and looked forward to the few seconds alone, but instead, he spun around, wrapped a hand around her waist, and captured her lips with his.
It started soft and sensual. Which was good. Alyssa wasn’t sure she was breathing because she could not believe she was standing in a parking lot kissing Connor. But then, his tongue slipped into her mouth and every coherent thought left her. All she could do was enjoy. He was a pro at kissing. And she wished like hell they could explore this a little further, but going to jail for indecent exposure probably wasn’t the best way to end a date.

The two personalities just don’t mesh…or do they? She gets a chance to find out when a book-reading bet leads to dinner. Alyssa experiences a wide a range of emotions. She’s elated her beyond-friendship feelings seem returned, but his reputation precedes him. Is she just another gullible female in a string of women? What's Lacey Been Reading? #amreading

Up first was the first book in the Night Series, THE FIRST NIGHT by Sidda Lee Tate. I had picked this one up a little bit ago, just hadn't had a chance to read it. The second book in the series released, prompting me that I needed to read the first. I loved it! It gripped me from the first page all the way to the last. I kid you not, I'm thankful this was a novella. I didn't get up until I had read the entire thing. And then...I quickly downloaded the second book, HIJACKED. Yes folks, they are that good!
Anyway, in THE FIRST NIGHT, we get the more reserved friend Kayla who finds herself very attracted to the bar owner, Gannon. Kayla let's go and decided to be a little more adventurous than she usually is. The chemistry is there from the beginning with these two. And I like the little twist that the author tossed in. Nope, my lips are sealed. :)
Amazon

Sharon and Kyle were getting steamy from the first scene and they didn't stop until the end. The story line between them was fun and believable And in this one also, the author threw in a slight twist.
I can't wait until the next book in the series. I will be stalking Sidda Lee Tate's website for the details!
Amazon

In this story, Jordie isn't only trying to help Alex who is dealing with a protestic leg, but also determine why her brother was killed. She doesn't believe what the miliaty told them, and oes her best to uncover the truth, while fighting her attraction to Alex.

This book was filled with so many useful tips. Even if you're not interested in self-publishing, you'll walk away with some great marketing advice. And best of all, if you follow the link below, you can download it for FREE!!!

The Best of Both Worlds by Emily Wood #eroticromance #newrelease
Welcome fellow Beachwalk Press author Emily Wood to the blog to tell us about her new release!
A choice between two men? If only it were that simple.
Melissa Morgan seems to have it all…her modeling career is taking off and she's engaged to one of the most eligible bachelors in London. But when she finds Jonathan cheating on her again, Melissa finds solace in the arms of Riley, a sexy bar owner trying to recover from the heartbreak of his last relationship. Melissa shouldn't even want Riley, but she can't seem to stay away, especially when she finds in him everything that's missing in her relationship with Jonathan.
Melissa knows she has to make a hard choice, and when it comes to choosing between the life she's always wanted and the man she's falling in love with, she might find out that she can't have the best of both worlds.
Content Warning: explicit sex and strong language Excerpt "Hold on," Riley shouted through the door as he undid the bolts. He opened the door wide. Oh! It was her. He blinked, wondering if his eyes were deceiving him. Nope, she was still there. What could she want?
"Hi." Melissa smiled nervously. She was truly breathtaking. Her red curls were scooped back into a messy bun. Dark skinny jeans and heels accentuated her long, long legs and he could see a hint of her bra underneath her tight t-shirt.
Damn! How did she do it? He could feel himself becoming aroused right then and there.
"What can I do for you?" he asked, wondering why she was back at the bar. He tried not to get excited, in both senses of the word. She might have just forgotten something last night.
"Can I come in? Or are we going to do this on the doorstep?" Melissa laughed nervously.
Do what? he wondered, but he stepped aside to let her in without question. He couldn't help but glance down at her behind as she walked past him. It was mighty fine, but he felt so guilty for checking her out. She was engaged for God's sake! To one of the richest bachelors in London, no less. She wasn't for him. He took a deep breath and followed her into the bar.
"I wanted to thank you for last night," Melissa said as she turned to him. He could smell her sweet perfume. It was like heaven.
"Oh, okay." That sounded like something she could easily have done on the doorstep.
"I, um…also wanted to apologize for…you know." Melissa was blushing. It was an endearing sight. Riley remembered her trying to kiss him and his reaction.
"It's all right. I won't be telling anybody about it, if that's what you're worried about." Riley understood now, she was there covering her tracks, worried that the story about the hot, young model coming on to the barman would get out. Like he was thinking earlier, these girls were too full of their own self-importance.
"I wasn't worried about anything." Melissa folded her arms and scowled at him. "I wanted to apologize to you. I thought I might have offended you."
"I wasn't offended. I just don't have any time for a drunk, rich girl who's after a naughty little fling to entertain herself." Riley knew he needed to get rid of her, he couldn't think straight when she was around. Despite what he was telling her, a naughty little fling with her sounded pretty good to him right now.
"What if I want more than a naughty little fling?"

Also on Amazon and Nook About the Author I have always believed that the best stories are the ones that you can't put down, the ones that transport you to a different place and make you believe in the characters. This is exactly why I write… I have always loved the escapism that reading and writing provides, and there is nothing more exciting than imagining your own set of characters, and then letting them practically write the story for you. Writing has always been a dream of mine, and I'm lucky to have the kind of people around me that have always nurtured and encouraged my passion.
I live a cozy little life in Wales, and when I'm not writing I'm taking care of my young family, studying for a degree in Classical Studies, and training to become a nail technician. I love traveling to new places, meeting new people, and experiencing new things…it's all great inspiration for my books!

What's Lacey Been Reading? #amreading

The last book I finished was WALLBANGER. I loved it! Have you read it? Why the heck not? It's a bit pricey for a book. $7.59 for the eBook, but totally worth it. I laughed so much throughout this book. I could not put it down. Every now and then you pick up a book and its one of those stories that sucks you in and nothing else in this world matter. Well, WALLBANGER was that book for me. Looking at the cover, you might think its a hot erotic story. Nope. Sure, near the end after being tortured by Simon and Caroline just wanting them to do it, your so happy to be there for it. Odd...you have to read it.
There is so much humor in this story. And poor Caroline has lost her "O". And as the book states, the O isn't referring to Oprah. What happened to her O? She blames it on a horrible one-night stand. *wink* Maybe Simon can help her.
I could gush about this book for paragraph after paragraph. So, go read it. Please. :)

Unplanned by Sarah Biglow

Shannon feels under-appreciated by her husband after he makes it clear that she should be the full-time caregiver for baby number four. Lisbeth is pregnant with twins and wants her parents in their lives, but will they ever accept that she is happily married to a woman? Renee's boyfriend, Bryce, decides he is not ready to be a dad and leaves Renee to figure it out on her own. Struggling with an alcohol addiction since college, Erika continues to drink after finding out she's pregnant. AA meetings help, but will she get her life straightened out before her baby is born? After meeting at Maternal Instincts Yoga studio in Boston, these women practice yoga, endure hardships, and overcome obstacles to become lifelong friends.
Excerpt By three thirty that afternoon, Lisbeth pulled into the parking lot of a little diner in Cambridge. She spotted Shannon’s van a few spots over and hoped she wasn’t too late. She walked in and spotted her friends in a nearby booth. Pointing to them, she smiled and nodded to the hostess before walking over.
“Sorry I’m late,” she apologized and squeezed into the booth beside Erika.
“Don’t worry. We haven’t ordered yet,” Erika said.
“You look flushed,” Renee said.
“I was rushing around after work. They had a surprise shower for me.”
“Lucky. All I got at work was a whiny two-year-old who threw French fries at me,” Erika said.
“See what you’re giving up,” Shannon teased.
“I’ll pass on the tantrums, thanks.”
“How are you doing?” Lisbeth asked Shannon.
“Things aren’t exactly great. But we’ve started going to a counselor. We’re working on our communication and we’ve managed to decide on a name for the baby. Aiden. What about you? Does Rachel’s brother have a name yet?”
“No. I feel so bad.”
“What if we all write down a random name and see what sounds best?” Renee suggested.
“This from the girl who has her daughter’s name but is keeping it under lock and key like it’s a national secret,” Erika said.
“I like that idea,” Shannon said. She pulled a bunch of napkins out of the dispenser and passed them around.
Lisbeth watched her friends scribble names down and pass them to her. She looked through them smiling and laughing as she read the suggested names. She was sure some of the other people sitting around them gave her dirty looks.
“What?” Shannon asked.
“Which one of you wrote down Evan-Michael-Jamal.”
Erika raised her hand.
“He’s got two last names as it is. Can’t make his life hell by giving him three first names.”
“He’d be unforgettable though.”
Lisbeth shook her head and flipped to the next one. “Patrick wouldn’t be too bad. I’ll keep that one.”
The last one. “Nicholas isn’t too bad either.”
“Sure, pick the traditional names,” Erika said with a wink.
Before Lisbeth could tease her back, their waiter arrived with four waters and two chocolate milkshakes.
“Oh that looks good. I’ll have one of those,” Lisbeth said.
“Sure. Are we ready to order?” the waiter asked.
“We still need a few minutes,” Lisbeth said.
He nodded and disappeared in the direction of the kitchen. Lisbeth turned to the menu in front of her and flipped through it.
“You guys have any preferences?”
“Something big and greasy,” Renee answered.
“Aren’t we the poster child for health,” Shannon said.
“I have a craving. Onion rings.”
“Oh that sounds good. Let’s order two.” Erika agreed.
“What would Carolyn say?” Lisbeth asked with a smirk.
“She’d say to steady our breathing.”
“I’m so glad I met you all. You’ve made the last six months amazing,” Lisbeth said as the waiter came back with her milkshake.
