ROUGH EDGES

Rough Edges
Awkward
Edgy
Silhouette
Of a person becoming
Words pointed
Like scrawny elbows
Protruding through
Unformed cushioned layers
Sharpened by
Opinions of others
The roundness follows
As experiences
Slice through prejudices
Eyes soften
Words mellow
Shadows retreat
The whole
forms

O-CE-Ann

O-CE-Ann
Turbulence rolls with under currents
What lies below the surface
World’s unknown
Lace you to the coral.
You barely rise for a breath
Entwined with starfish, octopi,
And the slivering eel.
A chameleon
Colors change O-CE-Ann
Red, Blue, Green
Until you’re seen;
A mermaid holding
Up the skies.
Glistening eyes
Bear weight
Unburden your heart
Swim Free

How Did You Get There?

Track Changes
Show your work
Even a no or a yes
Has a path
Express your thoughts
If you lose your way
Go backwards
Find the crossroads
The past you missed
The futures that still exist.

Abbe’s Ruminations February 2023

Welcome to my newsletter, Abbe’s Ruminations. I mull, contemplate, ponder – old and new experiences, finding what I call the joy and laughter of repetition or the abandonment to not knowing.
Can you give me the time of day?
How easily my attention is pulled away from my intentions. The demands of outside forces, whether it be kids, parents, school, work, or even passions, take over and little is left.

L and L

The love even lost stays inside
Never disappears
Each time the heart opens
The entrance has a reverse
Escape valve
The veins and arteries
Fill with essence of good or bad
You may forget but you always feel

Remnants

With care
I remove shards
Pains sharpened
With time
Wars of territory
Ownership
A dare
No matter why,
The wounds remain
Until
I replace them
Where kindness
Inhabits grace

Spirit Germs

I’m a multi sneezer
Bits of my spirit
Let loose
Seven ah-choos in a row
Released in the universe
Sneeze travel
Leaves me breathless…

Bewilderment by Richard Powers
Quotes that moved me with their simplicity and depth.
Well remember you said how Einstein proved that nothing could be created or destroyed?
He was talking about matter and energy not people. Mom was energy, right?
Mom’s prayer—may all sentient beings be free from needless suffering.
Spring will keep coming back, whatever happens. Right, Dad?
Does it make a difference at all if it happened anywhere else?

Holding

Hand me your palm face-up
I feel the pads
That cushion my fingers
Curl your stiff knuckles
Encase my love
Let us breath
Together
Feel my strength
The palm rivulets
Flow with life
Each line holds
another journey.
