Laughter and Awe Returns

Laughter and Awe Returns

Abbe’s Ruminations August 2023

Welcome to my newsletter, Abbe’s Ruminations. I mull, contemplate, ponder – old and new experiences, finding what I call the joy and laughter of repetition or the abandonment to not knowing.

Sometimes taking the backseat in a situation places you front and center into the position of seeing what isn’t obvious. This is when improvisation takes over and the best fun begins.

After witnessing an intense swimming competition, on the return, I sat with Paige, the competitor, and her sister Lane.

Do-over Over-done

Do-over Over-done

“Do-over”
As if life is a rehearsal.
Time traveled, repeated pasts,
To get it right.
Would the over be a different lover,
More education, a different job
More adventure?
If I only hadn’t talked in anger
Or loved so freely, or gave more,
Life would be perfect.
Nothing changes if the doer doesn’t.
Hindsight is blind
To spur moment decisions
A cheat sheet wanting answers
To the wrong question.
Over- Done

Abbe would love to hear from you.

Ode to Dedos

Ode to Dedos

Ode to dedos
Dedos
Ten on your feet,
Ten on your hands
Dedos de pies
Dedos de manos.
Big toe reigns king
Queen thumb holds court.
Those in between
Balance and clasp
Spread weight and comfort.
Hidden foundations
Calloused workers
Not to abuse.
Refined by shoes.
Polished and manicured.
Dressed in warmth,
Socks and gloves.
Ready to run,
Ready to hold,
All for our loves.

You can find all of Abbe's books at Village Books in Bellingham, Washington, Three Trees Books, Page2Books, and wherever books are sold.

Abbe’s Ruminations: Newborn Babies the beginning of life

Abbe’s Ruminations: Newborn Babies the beginning of life

Welcome to my newsletter, Abbe’s Ruminations. I mull, contemplate, ponder – old and new experiences, finding what I call the joy and laughter of repetition or the abandonment to not knowing.

I have babies on my mind and in my heart.  Yes, the first of my two expectant children, has given birth.  Humble pride swells my entire being and releases tears. Beginnings continue what  generations before left behind. Foundations, paths, and traditions welcome the new energy of the sleepy blob that curls fingers into fists eager to hold hands, legs that kick and retreat into a burrowed nest.  This bundle of joy will soon open its eyes, become aware and find footing

Newborns like swimmers leave the inner world of mother’s plentiful womb, a fish out of water learning to survive.

Underwear

Underwear

Underwear
Beneath the neat veneer of costumes
Fitted or billowed,
Muted or embellished,
Bare skin
Wears no sin.
For the bottom cushions
And the top jiggles
Like my thoughts
Soften with giggles,
I philosophize,
Villainize, and capitalize.
There is more to what you see,
For underneath
I lay myself bare.
And sometimes refuse,
Underwear.

Abbe would love to share her thoughts with you. Find her at http://www.abberolnick.com

Coming Home

Coming Home

Home again
My stomach complains.
I fast on the intensity of flavors.
Satisfied to stir-fry crisp vegetables.
Not to remove knowledge
But to cleanse the senses.
Home again
I absorb the quiet.
Revisit moments
I sit in my brown chair,
And rest. A clear mind,
My home receives me
I nestled with the new
Changed, I’m still me.
Home again.

Abbe would love to hear from you and share more of her thoughts.
