Abbe’s Ruminations – September 2022
I remember at age five walking in our new neighborhood with my 6 ½ year older sister. I had the idea of knocking on the neighbors’ doors and asking if they had any kids we could play with. Nothing like announcing yourself, taking a risk, and not even knowing it. Sometimes there were kids our age but for the most part we got lots of cookies and smiles.

Wedding Dress
I gave away my wedding dress
The one with the open back
Puckered silk the color of
Blue skies
My waist indented
My neckline deeply V’d
Exposing my heart
In the puckers I discovered
A warm body needs the other soul
I gave away my wedding dress
Exposed I melted inward
Disappeared in the folds
I gave away my wedding dress
Which wasn’t mine but
Yours.

Even when you step into life, chances taken aren’t always the ones you expect. The milestones in our life seem to have a plan with rules and the normal roles expected of us. I’m one for structure but I need flexibility within it. How to say yes, how to say no, on what basis.
