New Short Story, “My Cloak of Keys” is out this week…

One of the loveliest experiences I get to have sometimes is talking with editors about my work. They say kind things like “yes, but what do you mean by this?” and “that’s really kind of out there…” and “huh…” a lot. And every one of those conversations grows into a deeper and richer story. There are also silences. Like when I told The Deadlands editor, E. Catherine Tobler, that I was writing a story about a small underworld demon who rescues the pets of the newly dead.

Long, considerate sile...

What I’ve Read and Loved and Written – 2021 edition (so far)

One of my favorite traditions is compiling a list what I’ve read and loved each year (*while still reading, so this list is going to grow!), in addition to what I’ve written.

A bit of reading and re-reading for this year!

It turns out, the only way I can do an eligibility or consideration post is to fill it with what I’ve read and loved by other people. And that turns out to be a pretty okay strategy — both by convincing myself that I can celebrate my own projects (because authors should ...

Clock Star Rose Spine Looks Even Larger In Rear View Mirror

The past two months, with the tremendous help of Lanternfish Press, as well as booksellers Main Point Books, The Ivy, Northshire Bookstore, Adventure Bound Bookstore, WORD Bookstore, Quail Ridge Books, Randolph College, and the Brooklyn Book Festival have been a whirlwind of poetry.

I got to hear Amal El-Mohtar read one of my poems back to me, see CSE Cooney dress up as CLOCK STAR ROSE SPINE, was able to sign books for readers in person (WHAT A LUXURY), face Theodora Goss in monster poet...

Poetry!Underway!! Insights, plus the Final Week of Clock Star Rose Spine Events!

Two weeks ago saw the launch of my first book of poetry, and events with inimitable wordsmiths Kat Howard (at Main Point Books), Theodora Goss (at The Ivy Bookstore), Sam Miller (at Northshire Books), and Malka Older (at Adventure Bound Books)

I loved talking with these four writers so much, especially for how different each conversation was.

While social media seems to be aiming for perfection — that perfect filter, the perfect staging — poetry is so much more about connection.

On Not Giving Up On That Dream, Even in a Pandemic, Even Upside-Down

Hi friends. It’s a little under one week until my illustrated poetry collection, Clock Star Rose Spine, comes out. It feels a little like the thunderstorm that swept through our area last night — lots of big feelings, and loud ones, all very fast. Which is strange, because everything feels time-struck right now, courtesy of the pandemic.

To RSVP for the Clock Star Rose Spine launch, please click here, or visit the eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fran-wilde-clock-star-rose-sp...

New Short Story At Asimovs, Ship of Stolen Words News, Poetry Collection Preorder, and more!

Hello friends! Exciting times here at house Wilde — here are all the details!

I have a new short story in Asimov’s this month. It’s called “Seed Star,” and my friend Rick Wilber has informed me that it’s hard science fiction, which, hey okay, I just wanted to write an alien fourth dimensional pregnancy in zero-G espionage story, and I’m excited that he likes it so much! I hope you do too. (Rick has a great new book out, Alien Day, which is also hard sci fi you should check it out!)

Asimovs...

A new story for you! Riverland out in paperback! Ship of Stolen Words launch event! Links for everyone!

Hello friends, it has been some time — mostly because I’ve been buried under grading and reading and work! It’s also almost three weeks until The Ship of Stolen Words launches, and navigating a middle grade book launch in a pandemic is … a lot.

BUT! I have a new story out for you, at Uncanny Magazine, and it is one of my favorites.

What if dark fairies got into haute couture during debutante season? Goblin market meets high fashion in “Unseelie Brothers, Ltd.” — out now at Uncanny Maga...

What I Read & Wrote in 2020

As so many have said, it’s been difficult to even consider making a 2020 summary/eligibility post! I’ve been struggling, as so many have. At the same time, much of what you see on the surface of publishing has happened over the course of many years’ work, and this year is no different. (PS, this utterly weird year’s not done, nor is my reading, or writing!)

I’ve also been teaching, and teaching during the current era is a lot. It is also a joy, as it gives me a chance to share my love for...
