A Song By A Very Talented Young Lady

A very talented young lady I know shared this with me recently (which is to say, she’s the one singing), and gave me permission to link to it here. If you enjoy it, consider subscribing to her channel – I know she’d really love that

What awesome things have you found on the web this week?

Perspective and the Narratives We Tell Ourselves

Funny. If you’ve been playing along, you know by now that I had a Major Work Project (MWP) that ate up most of my life from late July through to mid-September, and that I’ve been digging myself out of that hole ever since. I passed, which is fantastic (!!), and I just found out last week that I actually passed in the top 28% of applicants, so that’s cool.

My productivity took a tumble, and my mental health’s been somewhat precarious as I pushed to catch up on everything and meet deadlines and...

How To Get Everything Done

Step 1: burn your diary

Step 2: now you have nothing to do

Step 3: congratulations, you got everything done!

…If you’d like a slightly more practical approach, this was a great article I found last week about using discernment to tackle your to-dos. I suspect it will mesh nicely with The One Thing, which I just got last week to read soon also

Proof Copies – So Much Excitement!!!

Got a pile of pretty proof copies in the mail last night. However excited you think I am, you’re underestimating by at least 1000%

Made-it Monday: COVER REVEAL!!

Welcome to #MadeItMonday, where I post something I’ve made in the previous week, and where you can join in and post something you made too! The rules are easy: post a pic somewhere of something you’ve made in the last week (ish; let’s say in the last month as the hard-and-fast) and tag it. Sit back and enjoy scrolling through all the beautiful things we’ve collectively created, and celebrate the fact that humans can be awesome!

Never Interrupt Me While I’m Reading A Book, Yo

I’ve probably shared this before, but I dug it out a couple of weeks ago to show students because REASONS, and ermagersh. #ACCURATE. Unfortunately, these days I get interrupted while reading books all the time, and I’ve had to learn to read in snippets and bites, mostly.

That said, a few weeks ago I was feeling super burnt out and decided to quit homework for a couple of nights, and burned through Ilona Andrew’s Hidden Legacy series in three nights (I’d read books 1 and 2 before, but not #3,...

Showing Versus Telling, The Human Psyche, Grindelwald, and Abuse

This started as a side note in my post yesterday about The Crimes of Grindelwald. You probably don’t have to read it for this one to make sense since it’s mostly a review of the film, but it’s here in case you want to.

Oh, the human psyche. I do this Thing in classes when I’m teaching creative writing where I stand at the front and tell the students, “Okay, now I want you to be happy.” A couple of obliging students will attempt a smile, but mostly they just sit there being like, uh whut? Or e...

The Crimes of JK Rowling – I Mean Grindelurgh – I Mean Grindelwald

I love Harry Potter, and anything associated. You could probably serve me a pile of Harry-Potter flavoured dog poop at this point and I’d at least give it a go, because I am that invested. So when I saw someone on Twitter a week or two ago complaining that JK should have just staaahhped after the last HP film, I was low-key incensed. Some of us happen to like Pottermore and Fantastic Beasts and all the additional paraphernalia, I shouted in my head for the approximately three seconds I cared...

*waves*

Today: finalising grades, trying to figure out something valuable to do with classes to the end of term now assessment is over, etc.

This evening: making some graphics for the husband, and plotting the beginnings of a Pokemon birthday party.

Husband is bemused, but the kidlet and I are super into Pokemon GO together, and it’s awesome. If he reads in the car in the morning, he gets to play it on the way home from school, AND I’ll take the detour along the road that has a bunch of Pokestops.
