WICS: A Usability Score for Web Software
Over the last decade, I've spent my days teaching people how to use web software.
Some of that software has been easy to teach - students seem to understand the interface quickly.
Other software has been painful to teach - I've had to teach students to master long, complicated processes.
But, those were just feelings based on my limited experience. I couldn't prove that one system was easier to use than another. I couldn't prove that there were easy ways for this software to become more usable.
So, after a lot of thought, I've develped WICS: a usability score for web software. Allow me to present the first draft of WICS ...

CKEditor Buttons Missing in Drupal
A few times over the last couple of weeks, OSTraining members have run into trouble with CKEditor for Drupal.
They find that some buttons are missing from CKEditor when they try to create content.
These buttons include the Styles, Format and Size icons.

Watch the Joomla 3 Template and Overrides Webinar
Last week we completed the Joomla 3 Intermediate class.
In that class, Rod takes us through the process of building a complete Joomla site.
The final part lessons in the class cover design, using the Breeze template.
After the class launched, Rod held a webinar with Valentin, the designer of Breeze. This is a great introduction to Joomla templates and overrides.

Videos on Using Linkit with CKEditor in Drupal
CKEditor will be the default editor in Drupal 8 and is currently the most popular editor in Drupal 7.
However, in some respects, CKEditor isn't very tightly integrated into Drupal. For example, it's not able to access Drupal images or link to Drupal content.
The Linkit module is the best way to improve linking.
Linkit provides an auto-complete field for linking to nodes, users, files, terms, and fields. Linkit makes creating links significantly more user-friendly.

Breeze - An Updated, Free Joomla Template
Over the next few weeks we've several launches planned.
Some of these launches will be brand-new projects. Some of these launches, like today's, will breathe new life into old names.
We first published the Breeze template back in 2009. It was called "the World’s Easiest Joomla template".
5 years later, we've completely rebuilt Breeze. The new version is ready for 2014, but it's still as easy to use as it ever was.

Topher's Testing: Block Bad Queries Plugin for WordPress
This plugin review is part of a series we call "Topher's Testing".
Topher is our WordPress teacher, and he's sitting down to test some really useful new WordPress plugins.
This week Topher introduces us to the Block Bad Queries plugin, which is a security plugin that protects your website against malicious URL requests.
Block Bad Queries checks all incoming traffic and quietly blocks bad requests. This plugin is based on the 5G Blacklist which fixes many potential security problems.
