10 Lessons from our first Open Source Event

This past weekend we held the first Joomla Day Atlanta.

The day was a success, but it took a lot of hard work and nervous energy to get there. None of us had ever run an event before.

After seeing us do it, several people asked for advice about running their own events. Here are some tips for putting on your own open source event:

A Sub-theme of a Drupal Sub-theme

The best way to design and modify your Drupal site is with overrides.

If you're not sure how overrides work, read our introduction to Drupal overrides.

One of the most powerful ways to use overrides Drupal is with sub-themes. You might not be surprised to know we have an introduction to sub-themes too!

However, sometimes you need not just sub-themes, but you also sub-sub-themes. Sounds crazy? Well, sub-sub-themes are what you need to safely override some themes you download from Drupal.org.

Topher's Testing: WP Smush.it Plugin for WordPress

Topher is our WordPress teacher and he test WordPress plugins for us.

This week Topher introduces us to the WP Smush.it plugin.
Smush.it is a Yahoo service that optimizes your website's images. Its a "lossless" tool, which means it optimizes the images without changing their look or visual quality. This plugin uses the Smush.it API to work within your WordPress site.
