A Murder of Crows

Good morning and welcome to wwwblogs. This month, we’re focusing on paranormal books. There will be a lot of visitors making an appearance but on Sundays and Tuesdays, this blog will be all about things that go bump in the night!
Ghosts, ghouls, demons, you name it and I find it fascinating. Anything that can’t be proven becomes a story in my head, a way to explain those mysterious bumps in the night or things moving when no one is near them. Oh, I’ve heard all the explanations about how it could be cars driving past or a minor earthquake—good luck proving the second one to me. I can feel earthquakes, having grown up in an area where they abound.
Welcome Christopher Davis to the blog today. He’s here, talking about his short story, A Murder of Crows…

The crisp feel of fall is in the air. Baseball season is over for another year and the back yard barbeques have all been covered and put away.
Most folks in these parts are looking forward to a little time off for the holidays and time spent with loved ones around the dining room table.
Oh…and those damned birds have returned after another long, hot summer.

About Christopher Davis
Christopher Davis is a central California native and grandfather of four rambunctious little ones. When not tending herd, he’ll try his hand at writing crime, western and horror fiction. Chris lives with his wife and a little dog that has nearly lost his mind. His work has been published in both the US and England.

Never offend a group of inept witches! Chrissy Thomas learns this the hard way, through no fault of her own. For once, their curse works—right until it backfires onto them.

Excerpt
This is not one of my best days. In fact, it is probably one of the worst days of my senior year. See, Mama says she forgot to pay the electricity and water bills.
Forgot. Yeah. Right. A whole load of guilt busts up my rage. Well, she has been real busy lately, but she could have asked me to pay the bill.
We lost our utilities about five last night, right as I began to make supper. In addition to not having any way to prepare the food, and therefore going hungry, I could not take a shower or wash my hair. Thankfully, I shaved a couple of days ago, or I would be a hairy ape. No amount of deodorant I slathered on my pits helps. I can smell myself; everyone can smell me, including Layla Jersey, one of the Pigeon Mountain witches.
They’re trouble, sometimes. Usually, this little clique of a few teens swears they can get revenge on a guy for dumping you. They’re also into spookier stuff, but it fails about seventy percent of the time.
Not that I believe all that stupidity. But I’m not a fool. Like the rest of Landry High School, I go out of my way to avoid upsetting Layla.

Secret Society A Canoples Investigations Novella

Good morning and welcome to Sunday Blog Share. This month, we’re focusing on science fiction books. There will be a lot of visitors making an appearance but on Sundays and Tuesdays, this blog will be all about my teen science fiction series—Canoples Investigations!
This series began as an idea in 2001, in the horror filled days after the attacks on September 11. My youngest child was in kindergarten at the time. He came home from school that day, asking why did bad people want to hurt us. I couldn’t answer him for several days, because I didn’t know what to say, but after thinking over the events of that day, an idea formed. Four teens facing trouble in space… BD, Cassie, Carl, and Terry were born. As far as responding to my child about his question, all I told him was that sometimes bad people hurt the rest of the world, but there are always good people to stop them.

Mother Shipdestroyed.  Innumerable losses.  A mysterious invitation.  Problems at every turn.  And the threat of returning violence.
Corina Amberchuck refuses to believe her parents are responsible for the loss of Mother Ship. When no one will help her prove that she’s right, she reaches out on a memorized band width, connecting with the infamous BD Bradford for help.

Excerpt
We left Earth long after the evacuation. No one would come ever again to save those left on the severely polluted planet. The original departure had happened so long ago that I had not yet been born, even though Believers tried to make all of us think that it was only a decade earlier.
Eleven years have passed since the day Mother Ship and her escorts escaped Earth. I am now sixteen, ready to step up for my training, but still a year or so exists before I can do that. All that is my responsibility these days is to do the best job possible furnishing sustenance for those who live on the ships, and keep an eye out for Believers.
Those on these ships with me were once Believers. My parents were actually leaders with that group—citizens of Earth who thought the governments were wrong about abandoning the planet, wrong about vaccinations, wrong about everything. Turns out those who stayed behind were the ones that had the wrong idea, and most of us paid a heavy price.

Tom Henry, a writer, amateur archaeologist, and historian, is confronted one hot summer day by what he can only describe as a time and space traveler. He fears for his sanity as he is introduced to what the ancient people of the deserts of Nevada used as areas of intense energy for shamans to travel between realities. His guide is Riba, a Quarian, a dominant species in the universe, who introduces him to time and space travel by way of mind power only. Beware, Tom fears that Riba is more than a guide. Beware, you might be drawn into this great unknown.

About Johnny Gunn
I've had a wonderful and varied time along this bumpy highway called life. I spent my early years in Santa Cruz, California, swimming, fishing, and wallowing in the splendor of redwoods, the Monterey Bay, and a loving family. Then, my four years of high school were spent living on the Island of Guam. That was back in the early 1950s Yes, Virginia, I am that old, but only in body, not spirit.
My first job in radio was in 1958. I bought the Virginia City Legend newspaper in that old western mining community in 1971, and retired from having a job in 2010. That's when I changed from being a reporter of news to being a writer of fiction, and over these last few years have found my western and crime/mystery stories published as novels and in magazines and anthologies, around the world.
My beautiful wife Patty and I live on a small hobby farm about twenty miles north of Reno, Nevada, sharing space with a couple of fine horses, a flock of egg-producing chickens, and some breeding rabbits. You're always welcome to visit. I need help cleaning those corrals.

The Light of the Sun

Good morning and welcome to wwwblogs. All through September, we’re taking a peek at some stupendous science fiction authors. I have the fabulous luck to know each of these dedicated, hardworking individuals.
Candace Sams appears today with her tale, The Light of the Sun.

Summer Solstice on a distant planet provides adventure, romance, and mystery for two, star-crossed lovers.
On the planet Celtarae, Fearghal Tor looks forward to the Solstice celebration known as Solas na Gréine. Of all the galactic denizens allowed to attend, those from the Earth ship USS Inis Mór will be most welcomed. While providing a needed break from routine, this is still just one more celebration for him—until he gets a look at one of the Inis Mór’s botanists.
Lt. Kara Wayland knows she has a few short days to celebrate shore leave, and collect rare plant specimens before she leaves Celtarae forever. She never expected to experience adventure, the love of a big green dragon, or sultry summer nights with a man everyone calls Fear.
Somewhere between the sun and the planet’s surface, Fate looks at two people and smiles. Sometimes, it just takes one summer day to bind two hearts.

Canoples Investigations A New Beginning

Good morning and welcome to Sunday Blog Share. This month, we’re focusing on science fiction books. There will be a lot of visitors making an appearance but on Sundays and Tuesdays, this blog will be all about my teen science fiction series—Canoples Investigations!

As far as responding to my child about his question, all I told him was that sometimes bad people hurt the rest of the world, but there are always good people to stop them.
As with all good things, this series will soon come to an end. There are only four more books planned. But this team isn’t ready to quit just yet. Their investigative techniques have become infamous throughout the Twelve Stations. They’ve been noticed.

BD, Carl, Cassie, and Terry have proven time and again they’re capable of taking on tough cases. They’ve shown everyone in the Twelve Stations that they are far more talented than anyone ever imagined they could be. In fact, they’ve been so good at what they do, they’ve attracted attention in a place they thought despised them.

Once this series ends, the team takes off. Their new duty assignment? Well, the new logo should be a huge clue! There is an old saying… “Don’t be too good at your job. Someone might notice and come up with a very creative punishment.” Stay tuned. As soon as the team finishes their last case, they’re launching into a brand new adventure. Nothing will keep them down for long!
