Campanelli Sentinel and Campanelli Siege of the Nighthunter

Good morning and welcome to Monday Blogs. All through September, we’re taking a peek at some stupendous science fiction authors. I have the fabulous luck to know each of these dedicated, hardworking individuals.
Frederick H. Crook appears today with his tales Campanelli Sentinel and Campanelli Siege of the Night Hunter. This fantastic series features a blind Chicago police detective, doing his best to enforce the law in a post-apocalyptic world.

It is 2110 and migration to the colony planet, Alethea, has depleted Earth of billions of people. As a result, migration has been declared illegal by all world governments. Human trafficking becomes highly profitable for organized crime and their influence reaches beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. Many starships returning from Alethea are diverted from the scrapping process and secretly refurbished, allowing the population to shrink further.
Frank Campanelli is a blind Chicago Police detective who depends on his fully functional bio-electronic implants to see and do his job. After assisting on a botched infiltration of a top human trafficking network, he and his partner, Marcus Williams, are transferred into the CPD’s Organized Crime Division to head the newly formed Sentinel group and bring down the Ignatola family business.

Canoples Investigations Tackles Space Pirates

Good morning and welcome to Sunday Blog Share. This month, we’re focusing on science fiction books. There will be a lot of visitors making an appearance but on Sundays and Tuesdays, this blog will be all about my teen science fiction series—Canoples Investigations!
This series began as an idea in 2001, in the horror filled days after the attacks on September 11. My youngest child was in kindergarten at the time. He came home from school that day, asking why did bad people want to hurt us. I couldn’t answer him for several days, because I didn’t know what to say, but after thinking over the events of that day, an idea formed. Four teens facing trouble in space… BD, Cassie, Carl, and Terry were born. As far as responding to my child about his question, all I told him was that sometimes bad people hurt the rest of the world, but there are always good people to stop them.

BD Bradford resides on Canoples Station in 2364. He’s on his last break before graduating high school. The biggest worry on his mind is scoring enough creds to buy the latest vid-game, and making up with his girlfriend, if she’ll stop glaring at him. An announcement at breakfast hatches an idea in his ever-active brain – space pirates might be in the vicinity. Visions of creds tumbling around him after he captures the miscreants war with thoughts of what he did to torque off his girlfriend. He catches a glimpse of the villains outside the promenade’s viewport, but he beats feet to safety upon hearing one of his sworn enemies having a drama moment.
Excerpt
My life changed on an impossibly ordinary day. No warnings came my way, nothing to indicate that all I believe in is about to change—for the worst.
As I think back on it after all the space dust settled, I wish someone had given me a warning that I was about to embark on the biggest adventure of my life. Then again, I'm BD Bradford, intrepid investigator. No case is too big, no problem too monumental. Nothing would make me change a second of that very exciting day.***
Nothing marks this Thursday as extraordinary. Canoples Station orbits Jupiter, and my eyes pop open like they do every other day. The illumination in my quarters changes from artificial moonlight to artificial sunlight at the same time it does every other day. My mom and older brother get ready for work like they always do. Even I get into the act by zapping breakfast while they take their sonic showers. When I take over a kitchen, watch out galaxy. Great teen food is about to erupt.
"What are your plans for today?" Mom pushes the pancakes around her plate.
They look more like asteroids after impact than pancakes. Lesson learned. Zapping everyone's breakfast at the same time is a rotten idea.
Wade, my nauseatingly perfect older brother, eats the food without commenting. Kind of makes me feel worthless, as usual, but only worthless cooking. Nothing else in my life is lousy.

His home world is dead; the victim of a supernova, but this does not stop Karm from attempting to save the Brin, his extinct species. Rescued by an alien race from a derelict spacecraft as a vial of DNA, then cloned, Karm must travel back in time, convince a small team of co-conspirators to join him in his quest, and outmaneuver a power hungry monarch and his fanatic brother, leader of The Faith, both absolutely committed to opposing him. All of Karm’s plans rest on the untested and controversial cloning theories of the young geneticist Dr. Jontar Rocker, and the abilities of his bodyguard, personal assistant, and surrogate niece, Maripa. Will their combined efforts be enough to overcome the power of the monarchy and the planet’s most influential religion? Will Karm’s secrets destroy the trust of his companions and ruin his campaign to save the Brin?

In this sequel to Hegira, the Brin are thriving on their new world, but, in the 300 years since their arrival, some of the more powerful guilds, and members of the government have cooperated to violate a sacred trust. Maliche Rocker, descendant of The Saviors, uncovers a terrible secret and must fight those in power, including members of his own family, to save thousands of innocents from the cruelty of his own people. Will greed, prejudices and old rivalries tear apart their grand civilization? Or will another Rocker find the strength to once again save his people?
Interstellar war has raged for centuries between the Skae and Gorvin Empires. The Skae claim their efforts to capture and harness the power of a black hole will eliminate all future energy shortages and allow all the planets to thrive and prosper as never before. The Gorvin believe they have evidence proving the existence of a fatal flaw in the Skae’s plans. A flaw which would result in the destruction of half the galaxy. Maliche and Jontar Rocker, along with a small band of Brin and Kolandi companions, must learn which side to believe in order to bring an end to the war. Only travel to the distant past will uncover the truth and reveal the fate of the galaxy. Will what they learn allow them to join with the Skae, the beings who saved the Brin civilization? Or must they betray their ally and fight with the Gorvin to bring peace and a new empyrean to all the planets? Time is running out.
About Jim Cronin
I am a retired middle school science teacher, working part-time as an educator-performer at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. I wrote The Brin Archives as a challenge to learn something new. I have been married for forty years to the love of my life. We raised two incredible sons, and now have three amazing grandchildren to spoil rotten.
I was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in Arlington, Virginia before moving to Denver where I attended High School and eventually college at Colorado State University, graduating with a degree in Zoology and a teacher certification. My wife and I currently live near Denver in the small town of Parker.
My science fiction series, The Brin Archives is an epic adventure encompassing an entire galaxy on the verge of destruction. This trilogy, to my amazement and delight, has won critical acclaim and numerous awards. Who would have ever guessed this old, retired science teacher would become a successfully published author? I hope you enjoy my stories.

Whispers grew after that night of the babe’s birth, of what had transpired as his mam brought him into the cold, cruel world. A wild storm had rocked the land. Some claimed the banshee herself refused to come out to call those to their death who dared to leave their homes in a desperate attempt to find better shelter than the crofter’s cottages that had roofs consisting of not much more than thatched hay. Throughout this horrendous gale, the wail of a babe was heard upon the wind, causing most to fear the devil himself had snatched away a child to take him to the underworld.

The past changed the future … . . . the future must salvage the past.
Triplets DJ, Matt, and Elisa are as diverse in looks as they are in Talents. Travelers with abilities that astound the adults in charge of them, they have nothing more urgent on their minds than a spring trip to Peru.
Mysterious voices, Rogues bent on destruction, and typical sibling rivalry pull these teen apart at a time when they need to work together. Tragedy further lengthens that divide. Can they overcome their problems and become a team? Is the Traveling world doomed because they can’t cooperate?
Excerpt
He stood on the banks of the Coosawhatchie River. The man of many years stared across the small waves causing a rowboat at a pier to bob up and down. The boat seemed to represent his life, from the day he arrived, throughout his own education where he felt as if Travelers made up the rules as they went along, and into his own years actively traveling through time.
He had been graced with the name of Dennis James Sullivan. Dennis for his father, the greatest fire chief in San Francisco’s history, and James for his mother’s brother, a banker in the Midwest.
Both had contributed to his youth, but James, as he was called, learned more from the father he’d planned to emulate, until fate in the form of a Gateway changed everything seconds before the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906.
James believed that he had conquered the turmoil he felt at abandoning his mother. His duty had been to change Traveling, according to the woman who had approached him as he mourned for his father. He was always one to obey duty. His life had certainly been filled with excitement in the early years, but then he gave up his jaunts through history to raise his family and teach future Travelers.
