Canoples Investigations Destroys Dusters

Good morning and welcome to Sunday Blog Share. This month, we’re focusing on science fiction books. There will be a lot of visitors making an appearance but on Sundays and Tuesdays, this blog will be all about my teen science fiction series—Canoples Investigations!
This series began as an idea in 2001, in the horror filled days after the attacks on September 11. My youngest child was in kindergarten at the time. He came home from school that day, asking why did bad people want to hurt us. I couldn’t answer him for several days, because I didn’t know what to say, but after thinking over the events of that day, an idea formed. Four teens facing trouble in space… BD, Cassie, Carl, and Terry were born. As far as responding to my child about his question, all I told him was that sometimes bad people hurt the rest of the world, but there are always good people to stop them.

BD, Carl, Cassie, Terry, Mick, Jack, Corina, LaTisha, and Kathe dive into another fabulous adventure. The day starts with a girls versus guys SpaceBall game. In another part of the Galaxy, Wade and Mildred are heading home from their honeymoon. Everyone is relaxed and happy with how quiet things have been on the station
Until…
An explosion on Sub-1 turns a happy day into one fraught with danger and disaster. Can the team rally and save the station?
Excerpt
This station is so amazing. Even though my friends and I have only been living here for a short time, we’re treated as if we’ve been here forever. No one mentions that we were once part of Believers, for which we are very thankful.
“Sure wish we could be more a part of the team,” Kathe says. “It’s like they brought us here and we have to pretend like we never took care of those Believers on Starship Lyre.”
Kathe, LaTisha, and I have often commented on how the Canoples Investigations team seems to have a lot of adventures without us. Why, just two months ago, when Believers attempted to take over the station, BD, Carl, Cassie, and Terry, along with Jack and Mick, took off to Poseidon to deal with the Believers in charge there. They went nearly to the end of the galaxy, close to Pluto, and had a lot of fun before they came back to save the station.
They also brought me home. And Carl was hurt during the rescue. I wish I could have helped more.
“We’ll be more a part of the team,” LaTisha says with a grin. “As soon as we finish those extra classes we need to learn about important stuff.”

About Jim Cronin
I am a retired middle school science teacher, working part-time as an educator-performer at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. I wrote The Brin Archives as a challenge to learn something new. I have been married for forty years to the love of my life. We raised two incredible sons, and now have three amazing grandchildren to spoil rotten.
I was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in Arlington, Virginia before moving to Denver where I attended High School and eventually college at Colorado State University, graduating with a degree in Zoology and a teacher certification. My wife and I currently live near Denver in the small town of Parker.
My science fiction series, The Brin Archives is an epic adventure encompassing an entire galaxy on the verge of destruction. This trilogy, to my amazement and delight, has won critical acclaim and numerous awards. Who would have ever guessed this old, retired science teacher would become a successfully published author? I hope you enjoy my stories.

BD, Cassie, Carl, and Terry are back on the case—only this time it’s a case they have to solve fast. Turns out Sally Wild, intrepid reporter, has an agenda and it all has to do with making the C.I. team look bad before the Space Pirates trial. Can BD and crew prove they’re not making up stories and beat a clock that’s moving fast?
Excerpt
Our jaws are still hanging down near our knees. Me and my crew—Carl, Terry, and Cassie—can’t believe what just happened. Sally Wild made us look like fools, and we fell for it. Stupidly, we forgot every piece of advice that Chief Pelham has ever given us; ignored Wade, my older brother, about never giving an enemy an even chance; and stepped right into a trap.
“We’ll never live this down.” Terry drops his head into his hands. “Everyone will laugh us right off Canoples Station.”
He’s right and I can’t figure out a way to fix the mess that we’ve gotten into. Even though Chief Pelham promised us that the reporter from Inside Galaxy would never do anything to get her banned from covering the upcoming trial of the space pirates, she has. And she is still on the station. Worse, everyone else believes that she’s a poor, abused reporter rather than the Mercury tat she truly is.
“We have to fix this.” Cassie works her PocketPad, her answer to taking care of a problem. “I won’t let that reject from a Uranus mine make me look like a fool.”
That’s my girl.
I think that a lot when she is around. Our relationship can be considered rocky at best, especially when I’m acting the idiot, but she’s a loyal friend and is always there for the team. Carl, Terry, and I depend on her to get our collective butts out of trouble, once we dive into a situation where we should stand back and think first. She’s never failed us… until now.

The team is back with a brand new adventure. Corina Amberchuck is kidnapped by Believers. BD and Carl are injured. Cassie fights panic and Wade is in charge of station security temporarily.
Believers launch constant attacks against Canoples Station. Wade worries he won’t be able to protect the residents, especially his soon-to-be wife, Mildred—the former space grunge/rap star, Jenna Rock.
BD faces one of his biggest fears after being hit with a Dazzler. The banned weapon is just one of the devices used by Believers in their quest to take over the Twelve Stations.
Cassie has fears of her own, especially when it comes to her guy. Given the chance to prove her expertise with spacecraft, she produces a shielding device that may assist them in their fight against Believers
Once again Canoples Station is on edge. Can the team protect their home?
Excerpt
I can’t believe I’m still stuck in the asteroid belt near Mars, searching for what I now firmly believe is one of my kid brother BD’s space ghouls. It’s been a month since we rescued the people from Starship Lyre and reunited the families of those who were aboard Mother Ship when she exploded. My team and I are fast running out of supplies to sustain our search and we’ve all been stuck on this mid-sized ship so long that we’re ready to mutiny just for the chance to have a meal that doesn’t come out of a packet or a sonic shower that lasts more than forty-five seconds.
“Bradford.” Ames glances over his shoulder from his position at the communications board. “Chief Pelham needs to speak to you on a private channel.”
“I’ll take it in my quarters.” I stalk off the command deck.
Nominally, I am in charge of this group. Chief Pelham mentioned to me that if I managed handling this particular mission well, I might find myself in charge of Security on Rios, the new manufacturing station orbiting Jupiter with Canoples Station. To say that would be a promotion I never saw coming is a major understatement. Because of my father and his decision to become a Space Pirate, many have adopted the attitude that I can’t be trusted. Only Chief Pelham has believed in me these long years. Well, except for BD, but his support is not what I need.
