Good morning and welcome to Sharing Saturday. This month, we’re focusing on books and short stories that are thrillers and military. Edge of the seat action is going to have you panting for more from these fabulous books! Check out these intriguing stories from a stable of great authors!
Today, Simon Maltman has come all the way from Ireland to talk about his thrillers A Chaser on the Rocks, A Kill for the Poet, More Faces, and The Sidewinder…
A Chaser on the RocksBlurb
Hardened by the mean streets of Belfast, ex-cop Brian Caskey works as a struggling PI. He is isolated and erratic, often losing the battle to maintain his fragile mental health. Caskey escapes the real world by writing crime fiction stories about a 1940’s PI investigating mysteries during the Belfast Blitz.
‘A Chaser on the Rocks’ follows both of these characters in parallel as a ‘novel within a novel’. The two stories collide in adramatic conclusion set against the backdrop of The Giant’s Causeway.

Simon Maltman has created a modern noir with a new twist, a dash of black humour and a fresh approach and comment onstorytelling.Previous press for Simon Maltman:

“I’m amazed how a writer can cram so much into such a short space of narrative. You hit the ground running and it’s a sprint finish.”Crime Book Junkie
“Praise Satan for Bangorian Simon Maltman.”Irish News
“Long may he continue.”Hotpress magazine

About J.E. Holling
The Falcons Revenge is J. E. Holling’s debut novel. The aviation theme of his novel is not a surprise considering Hollings background. One hundred and eighty-three years after biological warfare eradicated all but a trace of mankind, Beth Gooding graduates from basic training as a Cultural Anthropologist with a Linguist subcategory. For intermediate training, she is sent to Hope, a remote outpost near Old Boston. She is assigned to Professor David James and required to learn Old Persian, a language she considers useless in a society recovering from near extinction. Despite their age difference, romance develops as Beth and Dr. James endure austere lives typical of the early 1800’s frontier. Dr. James eventually introduces Beth to a three-million-year-old shard found by his father—an object that could not be duplicated with modern technology. In attempt to uncover the shard’s origin, David and Beth set out to explore the radioactive Kill Zone in Old World Syria. Through constant struggle to survive and many brushes with death, they come to realize life without the other wouldn’t be living at all. On returning to civilization, they reveal the shard led them further back in time than they could have imagined—and provides potential to move human kind further into the future than anyone dared dream.

Excerpt
Joe Stockton chided himself for picking this moment. Both he and the woman he loved, Mel Hoffman, had just come off a twelve-hour shift, preparing the F-16 jet fighter aircraft at Hahn Air Base in Germany for flight. Both were dog tired, ready for a hot cup of coffee and a tasty meal, and then to drop into bed until they had to report for duty again, about twelve hours from now.
Ah, quit being a coward. You love her. She loves you. Haven’t both of us said that many times since we got here?

Excerpt
My ice skates safely tucked into their hard-sided bag, I walk out of the locker room. My mind whirls with all that I have to do before the big regional meet in a little less than two months, right before I start my senior year of high school. One thing I know that I can count on. I have no worries about anything preventing me from doing what had kept me sane the last seventeen years, eleven months, twenty-three days.
Well, it has actually only been fifteen years, eleven months, and twenty-three days. I didn’t begin ice skating until I was two. And I can’t wait to do regionals, even though the weather outside is hotter than hot, hot enough to as my dad loves to say, “fry an egg on the sidewalk.” Although why anyone would want to do that, I have no clue. Sounds pretty stupid to me. Then again, my dad is always suggesting dumb stuff, as if that will make up all the times he has totally messed up my life.
Wonder if we’ll go out to Grandma’s in California after regionals? We’ll have lots of time. School won’t start for a week after that. Maybe we can go to Disneyland again.
