Actualização semanal | weekly update

Olá!Pois é, esta vai ser mais uma semana sem escrever. E porquê? Porque vou estar uma semana na zona norte de Portugal de visita a uns familiares do meu marido.O que dizer da semana que passou? Não escrevi, nem consegui pôr a leitura em dia como pretendia – talvez o consiga fazer nos próximos dias. Contudo, o tempo que passei a trabalhar deu para estruturar mentalmente o que se irá passar em seguida na história do segundo volume. Ah, pois é! Esqueci-me de dizer que o segundo volume da série "Perdidos" já conta com 56 páginas; não é muito, mas também não tenho tido grande disponibilidade para trabalhar nele nos últimos tempos. Além disso, deparei-me com uma situação frustrante: preciso de feedback. Gostaria de ir ao encontro dos desejos dos leitores, saber o que esperam da história e o que gostariam que acontecesse, porém ainda ninguém leu o manuscrito, logo não há opiniões nem sugestões… A primeira pessoa a ler o "Perdidos" na íntegra é a Patrícia G., que ainda se encontra a fazê-lo – vamos lá a ver que sugestões terá para a continuação do enredo.Entretanto, e na tentativa de apurar se estou no bom caminho e obter réplicas imparciais, pedi a algumas pessoas que não conheço que lessem apenas o primeiro capítulo de "Perdidos" (é óbvio que não lhes posso mostrar o conteúdo por inteiro!) e, no geral, as respostas obtidas estão a ser positivas. Em breve irei "postar" algumas delas aqui, sem censura ou correcção prévia; claro que podia retirar os comentários que menos me agradam, no entanto não o farei – são uma fonte de aprendizagem que me ajudarão a melhorar no futuro. Para além do mais, por mais que goste de um livro, também eu tenho sempre reparos a fazer, logo é algo normal.

Hello!Well, this will be another week without writing. And why? Because I'll spend one week in the north of Portugal, visiting some relatives of my husband.What to say about the last week? I didn't write, nor could update my readings as I intended – perhaps I can do it the following days. However, the time I spent working allowed me to structure in my mind what will happen next in the story of the second volume. Oh, right! I forgot to say that the second volume of the series "Perdidos" has already 56 pages; it's not much, but I haven't had a lot of availability to work on it the last times.Besides, I encountered a frustrating situation: I need feedback. I would like to meet the reader's desires, to know what they expect from the story and what they would like to happen, but still no one has read the manuscript, therefore there's no opinions or suggestions…The first person to read "Perdidos" entirely is Patrícia G, who is still doing it – let's see what suggestions she'll have for the continuation of the plot.Meantime, and in the attempt of trying to find out if I'm on the right track and also to get impartial replicas, I asked some people I don't know to read only the first chapter of "Perdidos" (obviously I can't show them the content in full!) and, in general, the responses are positive. Soon I will post some of them here, without censorship or prior correction; of course I could remove the comments that pleased me less, however I won't do it – they are a learning source that will help me to improve in the future. Besides, however much I like a book, I also have repairs to do, so it is something normal.

Saudações!Ao longo desta semana irei estar a trabalhar fora de casa, o que significa que não vou poder escrever. Não faz mal, vou aproveitar os tempos livres para pôr a leitura em dia, até porque ler ajuda-me a escrever melhor (a diversificar o vocabulário e o tom adoptado, por exemplo).O que aconteceu nos últimos dias? Recebi a primeira recusa de uma editora: "a nossa Direcção Editorial emitiu um parecer negativo relativamente à viabilidade editorial deste livro, por não haver disponibilidade no nosso sobrecarregadíssimo plano de edições", disseram eles via e-mail. Claro que fiquei frustrada, um "não" nunca é fácil de ouvir, porém já o esperava, dado que se trata de uma editora de grande relevo e que não costuma estar muito receptiva ao envio de manuscritos. Se essa notícia me deixou triste, para equilibrar a balança algo me alegrou: a Simon & Schuster Canada escreveu no Facebook que consultou o meu blogue e que o mesmo transmitia a paixão que tenho pela escrita; concluíram desejando-me boa sorte com o livro "Perdidos". Não é que eles me vão publicar o livro ou algo do género, no entanto é sempre agradável saber que alguém nos ouve e nos incentiva a continuarmos a fazer o que gostamos. Por este facto, só lhes tenho a agradecer, assim como a todos que consultam este espaço e têm paciência para ler o que vou publicando.

Throughout this week I will be working far from home, which means I can't write. But it's ok, I'll use the free times to read, even because reading helps me to write better (to diversify the vocabulary and the adopted tone, for example).What happened in the last days? I received the first rejection of a publisher: "Our Editorial Board has issued a negative opinion regarding the feasibility of publishing this book, once that there is no availability in our super overload publishing plan", they said in an e-mail. Of course I was frustrated, "no" is never easy to hear, but I was already expecting this negative answer, since it is a publisher of great importance and it usually isn't very receptive to receiving manuscripts.If this news made ​​me sad, to redress the balance one thing made ​​me happy: Simon & Schuster Canada wrote on Facebook that they checked out my blog and that it conveyed the passion I have for writing; they concluded by wishing me good luck with the book "Perdidos". It's not like they are going to publish my book or something like that, but it is always nice to know that someone hears us and encourages us to continue to do what we like. For these reasons, I can only thank them; I must also thank to all who visit this space and have the patience to read what I publish.

Olá!Já lá vai uma semanita desde que dei notícias aqui: prometo que vou tentar fazer, no mínimo, uma actualização semanal deste espaço.Ora então, o que há de novo?Já enviei o manuscrito de "Perdidos" para algumas editoras portuguesas e as réplicas que me chegaram indicam que só me poderão dar uma resposta em concreto dentro de um período compreendido entre dois a quatro meses (e outras falam mesmo em seis meses!). Pois, é muito tempo para esperar, mas vou fazê-lo.Se por ventura nenhuma das editoras contactadas se manifestar interessada em publicar o meu livro, avançarei por mim própria. É assim, tem que se fazer pela vida! Enfim, há que aguardar e esperar pelo melhor desfecho =)

Hello!It's been a week since the last time I wrote some news here: I promise that I'll try to update this space at least once a week.Now then, what's new?I already sent the manuscript of "Perdidos" for some Portuguese publishers and the replies that I got indicate that they can only give me a definitive answer within a period from two to four months (and others even speak in six months!). Yep, that's a long time to wait, but I'll do it.If perchance any of the contacted publishers are interested in publishing my book, I'm going forth for myself. That's how it goes, you got to make a living!Anyway, I will wait and hope for the best outcome =)

É oficial: às 15h02 do dia 12 de Julho de 2011 comecei a escrever o segundo volume da saga "Perdidos" ;-)

Agora que finalmente tenho o manuscrito revisto, está na altura de dar o próximo passo: contactar editoras. Será que alguma vai estar interessada em publicar o meu livro? Espero bem que sim. Se não resultar, há sempre o POD (Publish on Demand). Vamos fazer figas e esperar que tudo corra pelo melhor. Tenho fé no meu livro e acredito nele - espero que as editoras também =)

Now that I finally have my manuscript revised , it is time to take the next step: to contact publishers. Will any of them be interested in publishing my book? I truely hope so. If this doesn't work, there's always POD (Publish on Demand).
Let's keep the fingers crossed and just hope for the best. I have faith in my book and I believe in it - I hope that publishers too  =)

Acabei! Finished!

Finalmente acabei a terceira e última revisão do meu livro "Perdidos". Confesso que já estava a ficar perdida por entre tantas correcções...! Depois de o ter escrito, efectuei uma primeira revisão, que consistiu essencialmente na verificação de dados, análise da coerência da história e adição de novas informações. Daqui resultou o incremento de mais 74 páginas.Com as 405 páginas prontas, reli tudo no formato digitial à procura de erros, gralhas e frases incoerentes, que fui corrigindo à medida que lia.No entanto, e como referi no post anterior, tenho alguma dificuldade em fixar muito tempo o ecrã do computador e perco-me muitas vezes na leitura, por isso imprimi um exemplar. É muito mais fácil para mim corrigir algo que está em papel e o resultado salta à vista: enchi 12 páginas em formato A5 de erros, gralhas, alterações de pontuação e outros detalhes que tinha que alterar! (E que já alterei!)Será que agora está tudo correcto? Espero que sim! Terei coragem de, por descargo de consciência, ler a versão impressa corrigida em busca de algo que me tenha escapado? Não nos próximos dias... =)


Finally I finished the third and final review of my book "Perdidos". I confess that I was getting lost among so many corrections ...!
After having written it, I did a first review, which essentially consisted of data verification, analysis of the story coherence and adding new information. This resulted in an increment of 74 pages more.
With the 405 pages ready, I re-read everything in the digitial format to look for errors, typos and incoherent statements, which I corrected as I read.However, and as I mentioned in the previous post, I have some difficulty in staring at the computer screen for too long and sometimes I get lost in reading, so I printed a copy. It's much easier for me to fix something that's on paper and the result stands out: I filled 12 pages in A5 format with errors, typos, punctuation changes and other details that had to be corrected! (And that I already fixed!)
Is everything correct now? I hope so! Will I have the guts, for the relief of conscience, to read the corrected printed version in search of something that I have missed? Not the following days... =)

Volvida uma semana após a criação deste blogue, é chegada a altura de fazer uma actualização quanto ao que me encontro a fazer agora. Pois bem, neste momento estou a ler o exemplar que imprimi do meu livro "Perdidos" para procurar erros, gralhas ou más construções frásicas que me escaparam. A minha miopia dificulta-me o trabalho e, por isso, tenho dificuldade em ler o que me é apresentado no ecrã do computador, daí gostar sempre de imprimir um exemplar dado que me é mais fácil ler o que está no papel.Encontro-me na página 142 (de 405) e o balanço que faço é o de que as coisas estão a correr bem. Tenho encontrado sobretudo palavras "em excesso" ou, pelo contrário, desaparecidas. Sabem como é: por vezes corrige-se uma frase e deixa-se lá uma palavra que constava da anterior e que não foi apagada ou então esquecemo-nos de escrever qualquer coisa. O problema é que, muitas vezes quando procedemos à leitura do que escrevemos, lemos o que queríamos que lá estivesse e não o que efectivamente lá está. Enfim, tudo dentro do normal.Espero concluir esta etapa em breve ;-)

One week after the creation of this blog, it is time to do an update about what I'm doing now.Well, at this time I'm reading the printed copy of my book "Lost Ones" to search for errors, typos or statements bad built that have escaped me.
