Do You Remember This Cartoon: Al-Shanakel

Back in the mid 80′s and right after the huge success of Al-Sanafer, a new cartoon was introduced called Al-Shanakel. I liked it a lot and used to watch it even though they had very weird names "fanaa9, '3awaa9, 2oo6a?" and that octopus pet the had was really stupid. I also remember them eating brown bread hamburger like sandwiches with lettuce inside and me imagining eating that same lettuce burger and wishing it existed. Now I think about it I think its most probably a sea weed burger which is kinda disgusting.

I also think that the show was taken off the air before it finished, given the fact that I don't have many recorded episodes on the lone tape I had of them which is long lost now 7safa, why? God knows :(

Do you remember Al-Shanakel?

Childhood in Q8 Means: The Magic House Box

I was going through a box of my old toys when I saw the house shape plastic box above. I held it gingerly in my hands and smiled fondly, remembering the hundreds of similar boxes we used to buy back when we were children from any ma67ana. I think I must have bought one on weekly basis!

It used to come with some toys inside and some candy and had different colored roofs. It also came with a little handle on the sides if I am not mistaken. Why on earth did they stop selling or making those little boxes is beyond me, they were so much fun! This surviving one is filled with little newspapers and books I made for my barbies :p

I found this in the bottom of the box. Made and imported from Taiwan in 1992 or 1993. Which means it was sold in Kuwait up till the mid 90′s for sure!

Do you remember this magic box toy?

Would You Touch That Thing?

Whenever we walk into an electronics store my Butootee heads straight into the newest tablets or phones section and starts jabbing away at the touch screen. I have developed the habit of running before him and screaming "Don't Touch it! Shoof! Wa9ekh Wa9ekh" before he does. He however always ignores me and touches it anyways and he insists I try the device too! G63! Not in this life time!

I hate touch screens, specifically public touch screens because of the amount of grime I see on the screens. I believe they can be dirtier that the toilet especially if they are as dirty as the Motorolla thing I saw last weekend above! God knows why these fingers are greasy and where they have been last, or whom do they belong to! Why can't stores offer cleansing wipes for their devices like makeup stores do bdal hal galaga? This is disgusting, simply disgusting.

Do you touch electronic devices or touch screens?

My Purchases from f2o Shop, Burj Jassim

In my quest to revamp my living room I wanted to change the cover of my Ikea foot rest. Then I remembered that I had seen the exact same Ikea foot rest in f2o's newly opened shop customized with her own signature drawings. So two nights ago I headed over to f2o's shop in Burj Jassim.

The moment I stepped inside my eyes were all over the place. It was such a magical funky place that it was literally hard to concentrate as you try to look everywhere at once. Take for example the wooden crate above! It has my name on it :p

I spend more than hour chatting with the cute Kuwaiti girl behind f2o, Miss Fatma Al-Othman! Qaraqt 3la ras.ha maskeena! But she was so helpful and brimming with ideas and enthusiasm masha2 Allah 3leeha :D Check for example her Pink Cancer Ribbon Key Ring and Bookmark! I got one each for myself of course!

First thing I did is arranging with Fatma to customize a foot rest cover for me, I will take elaborate pictures of my new foot rest once its done insha2 Allah :D Then I browsed through the merchandise and I went gaga over the T-Shirts! I took 5 Tshirts given that I am a self confessed T-Shirt Junkie and I couldn't resist any of them if they came in my size! Shofoohom…

The vibrant fluorescent lime green writing on the white T-Shirt is what made me grab it instantly! The pictures do not give it justice.

This one reminded me of myself for some reason :p

This one looks like its made for me given that I am a crazy coffee addict! Me & Fatma share the love of coffee hence the T-shirt is like a message from one crazed coffee to another ;)

This is for my mama :p

This is a gift for my husband. Who can tell me mino ygool Ya wailee wailah ya zenee zeinah? Guess :p

Ayshaweq moo :p

Even the bag aywanis…

I had so much fun visiting f2o, I can say its the most fun shopping experience I've ever had in Kuwait so far! I just didn't want to leave and I stayed nearly till the closing time! Dear Fatma, it was my pleasure meeting you, you are such an amazing gorgeous girl inside and out masha2 Allah 3leech. Qawach Allah o waiting for the Acrylic place info and my new customized foot rest

10 Things That Never Go Out of Style in Kuwait

1- Hamburgers! In the 70′s and 80′s it was all wimpy, hardeez, and hungry bunny, in the 90′s it was Mcdonald's, fuddruckers, Burger King, and Johhny Rockets. In the 2000′s we first had the locals B+F, Burger Hub, and Slider Station and now the new burger franchises which keep on coming and coming! Get a Burger franchise and you will be rich :)

2- Henna! No matter how many new beauty products and hair friendly dyes are invented. No matter how many hair treatments are used. The disgusting 7enna is still a favorite amongst Kuwaiti women! Its messy, it smells really bad, it gives your hair an orange hue, is impossible to wash out, and makes your hair as dry as a witche's broomstick! Yet women still use it! Why? Beyond me!

3- The 3baya! Even though it evolved from a 3bat raas to 3baya islamiya and gotten all jiggy with tons of crystals but the black fabric is here to stay. I personally a7eb 3bat el raas. Reminds me of the 80′s jam3iya Look: Farg 3adel, Big Sunglasses, 3bat raas on the shoulders, an Egyptian dara3a in a vibrant color, and a wooden gobgab! Classic!

4- Mesabee7! No matter what era we are in, our men will always have an expensive mesba7 flying around in their arms. Not necessarily for prayers per say but its a must have acceossory. Now, cham wa7ed fekom inbag mesba7ah el kahrab bel dewaniya?

5- Bukhoor

6- Bye Bye London Play! Almost 90% of the Kuwaiti population have seen it and those who haven't will have to see it because we still rave about it and laugh over it and use its names and phrases as quotes.

7- Pizza Qay9ar! The ultimate celebration food! Until this day I manage to find a plate of pizza Qay9ar in gatherings and buffets. Never ever goes out of style :D

8- Ke7el elhnood. Even though there are a million posh brands of expensive makeup out there, the best most used Kohl pen is the one sold in the little Indian stalls in traditional souks. You can buy a dozen with the price of one Estee Lauder Kohl pen and they will give you the blackest best kohl rimmed eyes you've ever drawn.

9- Banak! No matter how many new munchies are invented and out every day, people would still buy banak from the guy 3nd el dowwar. Still block the traffic and buy a clear bag filled with salty little fellas that can break your teeth into two. No matter how many times you explain how banak is made, it is still bought and consumed when in season. Not a fan, ashwa!

10- Leggings! The fashion world has already left them behind, yet the Kuwaiti women still use them excessively! The fatter and more voluptuous the woman the more fond she is of leggings. They are using white and flesh colored ones b3d with really short tops and you have a live demonstration of the girl's jiggle test result as she walks around. Araf! Bs 3ad! El Ra7ma!

What else do you think that would never go out of style in Kuwait?

Mo Chinna Ma9ekhooha RIM with their BB Service?

Tra ma9arat! Shelsalfa?

For en entire couple of days I've been disconnected from the world! I've spent most of those 48 hours away from home and yet I've been the loneliest I've ever been since before the Smart Phone age! I miss my Tweeps, the ability to browse for everything and anything, my Whatsupp, my BBM, and access to my email! I miss being able to take a shot of something freaky and send it to share a laugh or a picture of some product that I need someone's opinion on! I don't miss my work emails though :p

I am lonely, and I need my friends and family's support at these days especially. I am a busy person, I have put my faith in RIM to provide me a consistent Blackberry service. RIM let me down once yesterday which is forgivable. Bad things happens and it got corrected. RIM let me even further down today, the final knockout, when for the 2nd day in a row they stopped my service. Whatever mistake they have done yesterday could have been avoided today. There is no excuse this time. Strike two is strike three.

Now I am looking for a BB replacement. Sorry RIM, I am too lonely to wait for you to get your act together. Bye!

A cute note that made my day!

My grandmother was admitted to the hospital for an Angiography procedure (Qas6ara). While we were with her yesterday I saw a big lovely bouquet of flowers at her door with the card above. It was from my favorite cousin Abdullah :)

Abdullah, by the way, is a 20 years old ASK graduate who is currently in College :)

Now fess up, how many of you have perfect English handwriting and horrible Arabic handwriting? When was the last time you wrote in Arabic? or read something Arabic? or watched something Arabic -other than zwarat khamees and turkish soaps-?

And dear 3obada… min ygool "wa e7waneh" were added as an afterthought? Wain noq6at el khaa2 :p Thank you for making me laugh yesterday coz, your note made my day wallah :D

Fabulous News: Abdul Kareem Got a Sponsor!!!

Many of you, hopefully most of you, remember Abdul Kareem. The brave little boy whose cancer was threatening to cut off his leg and his life if a knee replacement surgery that is not available in Kuwait (post). We wanted to spread his story in hope that some generous soul would be willing to sponsor him for his surgery and save both his leg and his future.

The good news is that many people have responded positively. The even better news is that Abdul Kareem has got not one sponsor, but many! Yes, many generous souls were willing to fully sponsor Abdul Kareem's treatment paying a full 30,000 KD! A sponsor was chosen and Abdul Kareem will be OK! He will be taken to Jordan, he will get his knee surgery, and insha2 Allah he will live a long happy life with two legs. Who knows maybe he will become one hell of a football player too!

Thank you! Every single one of you. Every one who spared a moment to read about Abdul Kareem's ordeal, every one who tweeted about him, every one who repeated his story to anyone who would listen, everyone who came to me asking to gather up money for Abdul Kareem, and everyone who already gathered up money without being asked and was ready to fight for Abdul Kareem's leg and right to live.

My fellow bloggers? Do I need to thank you? I think you are as proud as me today. Thank you, everyone of you, Thank you 7aji Dude, Pink GirlBlog 37, Q8 Stig, Frankom, Fashionista Q8, Kaifan 5, Fro Yo Nation, Dear Romeo, UCFQ8, The Side Talk, The Mask Tales, Qurtoba Valley, Triple Sisters, Um 3azooz, Q8 Path, Couch Avenue, Nezar's World, Crazy Yet Wise, Oleana, Shit we come up With, His & Hers, Pices Chick, Grapevine, Hi Kuwait, Banana Q8, Ansam, Halloum, Q8 Blend, and everyone I have forgotten!

Q8 Rain especially, you are an angel. It wasn't for your idea to go to NBK's Children's hospital in the first place then no one would have known about Abdul Kareem's case.
