Here’s seven from ALIEN ADMIRER. Enjoy!
Set-up: Sera goes out in public for the first time with her younger boyfriend. She did not expect to run into one of her deceased husband’s friends. Will she admit she’s started dating again?
“So, who are you here with? Where are Melody and Zach?”
“They’re in line with my…boyfriend.” Sera swallowed the sudden lump in her throat. What are Rob’s friends going to think? She hadn’t thought about that.
“You’re dating already? I thought you’d wait longer, at least until I had a chance to ask you out.”
Sera crossed her arms. She didn’t expect her friend to make her so uncomfortable. Fingers clenched onto her shoulders and someone cleared their throat behind her.
“Hi, Zach. Hi, Melody,” Derek said.
They waved and grabbed their drinks before sitting beside her.
“And this must be your boyfriend. A little young, isn’t he?”

A Question for my Readers…
Hello all, I have a couple of questions for you as I try to figure out what stories my readers want more of.
First, tell me please how/where you first discovered my books.
Secondly, I’d love to know if you read all of my books, or just those within a specific subgenre. Do you prefer alien romances, stories about clones or androids, dystopian worlds, stories set on Earth, or other planets, paranormal, or contemporary? Do you look for the more erotic titles or prefer the sweeter stories? Do you read my F/F stories, menages, or prefer M/F?
Thank you for answering! BTW, have you entered my contest for one of my audio book titles?

Can he change her mind in time to save her life? THE GODDESS’S CURSE by @CaraBristol
THE GODDESS’S CURSEby Cara Bristol
Sharona women and barbarian Lahon men maintain separate lives until libidinal fever strikes, and the women are forced to mate.
Stricken by a mysterious terminal illness, Sharona Princess Reena jumps at the chance to accompany a cousin on her mating journey so she can at least see a Lahon before she dies.
Garat, leader of the Lahon, hates the Sharona because of the woman who birthed and killed his son years ago. Now that a massive earthquake has left his people with precious little water, he has the perfect excuse to exact revenge by driving the Sharona from their homeland and taking what the Lahon need.
When he encounters Reena on the mating journey he takes her hostage to force the Sharona to capitulate to his demands, but finds himself drawn to her instead. As his desire rises, lust for revenge wanes.
But after what he’s done, can he convince her of the evil that lives in the palace in time to save her life?

Under a caress of sunlight, Reena floated in the pond, grateful to have escaped the watchful eyes of servants, advisers, and bodyguards. Well, most of them. She cracked an eyelid. Yep. Carinda was still there, keeping a firm grip on her electrical impulse disruptor and a steady gaze on the perimeter. Her bodyguard’s caution and devotion were admirable—but unnecessary. No danger could penetrate the protected grotto.
Reena rolled over and dove deep. Tiny fish scattered. She touched the sandy bed then swam along the bottom until the need for air forced her upward again. She broke the surface and flung her hair out of her eyes.
Hip deep in the water, Carinda splashed toward her. “Oh my Goddess. You scared me to death.” The big, burly guard looked like an oversized drowned rodent. Reena would have laughed except for Carinda’s contorted, stricken expression. She didn’t want to scare anybody; she only needed solitude. “You worry unnecessarily. I have been swimming since I was a little girl.”
“I can barely float, Princess,” Carinda replied. “Anything could have happened. I feared you were drowning.”
“I apologize. I shouldn’t have frightened you. Why don’t you return to the palace and get some dry clothes?”
Carinda shook her head. “No, I won’t desert you.”
“You’re not deserting me. You’ll be right back.” Please, give me a moment to myself. No attendants, no servants, no guards. “I’ll be safe. Promise.” She flashed her most beguiling smile.
“No, Princess.”
“I am not asking.” Treading water, Reena compressed her lips in frustration. “I command you to return to the palace.”
Carinda bit her lip then shook her head. “I’m sorry, Princess, the queen’s wishes supersede yours. I have been ordered not to leave you alone, in case…something befalls you.” Her hurt expression turned questioning. “I don’t know how you got out of the palace without anyone seeing you.” She stopped speaking, probably willing Reena to fill the silence with an explanation.
The bodyguard would have a long wait. The existence of the secret passage would go with Reena to her grave. She hadn’t shared that information with anyone, not even with her cousin Honna, her closest ally.
Reena lifted her chin, and Carinda conceded the battle. “It was fortunate I spotted you while patrolling the grounds.”
Unfortunate. Reena refused to feel guilty. “Please go to the palace. I won’t be long.”
“You are not well.” Carinda held her ground.
“I’ll stay with her.” Honna stepped from the path onto the beach.
Having her cousin nearby didn’t qualify as being alone, but Reena much preferred her presence to the guard’s. Despite a seven year age gap, they were best friends, as close as sisters.
“If anyone can take of me, she can,” Reena argued. She owed her continuing life to her cousin. The Goddess had gifted Honna with a natural talent for the healing arts, which she had honed by intensive training. If not for her, Reena would have already died. Once, she would have become Shara, but her mysterious illness cast doubt she would live long enough to ascend the throne currently held by her mother, Ellynna.
Carinda waded out of the pool. Dripping and shivering, she planted both feet on the bank.
“If you catch a chill in those wet clothes, then how will you protect me?” Reena called.
Carinda’s resolute expression wavered. “What if there are invaders? Barbarians who would catch a woman alone? The Lajon.”
“At the very center of the palace gardens? Unlikely,” Honna scoffed. “They would have to scale the perimeter wall, neutralize our guards, storm the palace, and then choose the right path to this bathing pool.”
And if barbarians did achieve the near-impossible and breach their defenses, a lone bodyguard would be no match for them. Pointing that out would cause worrywart Carinda to freak.
“I suppose you’re right,” she conceded, wrinkles of doubt lining her forehead.
Reena swam toward shore until her feet could touch the bottom and then stood. Water lapped at her shoulders.
“Go,” Honna said. “Everything will be fine.”
“Everything will be fine…” Muwahaha….Famous last words.
Cara Bristol continues to evolve, adding new subgenres of erotic romance to her repertoire. She has written spanking romance, contemporary romance, paranormal, and science fiction romance. No matter what the genre, one thing remains constant: her emphasis on character-driven seriously hot erotic stories with sizzling chemistry between the hero and heroine. Cara has lived many places in the United States, but currently resides in Missouri with her husband. She has two grown stepkids. When she’s not writing, she enjoys reading and traveling.

My body being flung forward in the car from the hard braking roused me from a sound sleep. The rain struck the car harder now, but I had no trouble making out the two men framed in the headlights, standing in the middle of the road, dressed in black, their long coats flapping out like wings behind them. I blinked, but they were still there, like something from a science fiction movie. Except this was no fiction and it sure as hell was no movie screen we watched.
The one on the right raised his arm and pointed it in our direction. I could see a blue light slowly ringing his arm. As though he charged the weapon he held, when suddenly another blue blast hit him from behind and he went flying into the air. The other man with him didn’t pause to check on his friend, but also raised his hand.
I could see it glowing bright blue. Hotter, faster. My gaze rested riveted on it.
“Out. Get out!” Veil yelled. Breaking into my fear, he opened the door and pulled me out behind him. He dragged me into a wet ditch seconds before the car exploded. He didn’t wait but kept dragging me away from the explosion.
In my shock, I could do nothing but stumble after him in the rain. “Mr. Moss,” I croaked out.
Veil screamed, “RUN!”

Hello all! Thank you all for joining me for week 83 of My Sexy Saturday! Here are the details: every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.
Today’s theme is…
SEXY ME UP
Here’s seven from ALIEN ADORATION. Enjoy!
Set-up: After two failed dates, play boy Luke has come to Rachel’s rescue twice. Here, he comes to her rescue again after the local church ladies want to set her up with another guy.
“She’s having dinner with me.”
Rachel gasped. Had she heard his voice, or just imagined it?
Luke stepped past the old bat, and into her office. “Good morning, Rachel. I’m sorry I missed you at the coffee shop this morning.” He nodded to the other women listening. “Mrs. Norris, Miss Shaw. Would you mind if I have a few moments alone with this beautiful young woman?”
Christine ducked away immediately, and Rachel swore she heard her friend squee. Mrs. Norris, on the other hand, gave him a ferocious glare. “I’ve heard about you. You’re no good for her.”
Tension blanketed her small cubicle, but Luke grinned back at the old woman. “I believe Rachel can make her own decisions.”
With one last glare, Mrs. Norris huffed off.
Alone with him in her cubicle, she froze, unable to form a coherent thought. After a deep breath, her heart jumped back to life, pumping faster than ever. Luke Jones had more or less invited her to dinner Friday night. What am I going to wear? Oh God, I have to shave.
~ About ALIEN ADORATION ~
Erotic dreams fill her with need…
Night after night, Rachel fantasizes about her sexy, playboy neighbor. But in her small town, no one changes, least of all the bad boy next door. But when Luke rescues her not once but twice from disastrous dates, she dares to believe her knight in black leather armor may be the right man for her after all.
Until she learns the truth…
Life on Earth has never been easy for Luke. Stranded as a little boy, he struggled to craft an existence for himself, but he never forgot the first human he met–and he never stopped wanting to see her again. Returning to Hanton, Luke longs for Rachel. Yet nothing goes as he plans, and Rachel barely notices him. Convincing her he isn’t like all the jerks she’s dated means telling her the truth, but can she handle it?
Can she overcome her fears, or will she deny her alien adoration and leave him stranded once more?

Contemporary Sci-Fi: Not Necessarily a Contradiction by @TheaLanden #scifirom
Not Necessarily a Contradiction
by author Thea Landen
When I was first filling out the forms to send Elysium over to the awesome team at Decadent Publishing, I needed to indicate the relevant genres for the book. Checking off “contemporary” and “sci-fi” made me tilt my head and raise an eyebrow at the screen. I thought, isn’t that an oxymoron? How can something be both contemporary AND sci-fi? Shouldn’t I choose one or the other?
Elysium definitely isn’t my first foray into the world(s) of sci-fi romance. I’ve written stories and books that take place on fictional planets, occasionally on spaceships, with cyborgs and aliens and other types of characters that don’t actually exist. Sometimes there are ties to Earth and our reality, sometimes not. And if Earth is mentioned at all, it’s made clear that the plot events are happening many, many years from now.
Elysium does take place on Earth (to be precise, it takes place in the exotic wilds of…Connecticut). At the beginning of the first two scenes, I included months and dates, but intentionally left out a specific year. If forced to narrow down the time beyond that, I can only say that the book’s events happen sometime between tomorrow and the point in the future where we all walk around wearing identical shiny jumpsuits.
Cars don’t fly in the book. People still use snail mail for packages and some other correspondence. Even the main characters themselves have differing views on technology: Drew is an innovative software engineer, while April only owns an old laptop she uses here and there when she has to. (Cell phones never come up, but if they did, she’d probably only have a basic one that does nothing besides talk and text.)
Sounds contemporary so far, right? Except the plot hinges on highly advanced, super realistic virtual reality, the likes of which haven’t been achieved in the present. While it could happen one day, we’re not there yet. In that regard, much of the book is speculative. So much for the contemporary label.
In the end, I think what matters most is giving readers a pretty good idea of what to expect when they pick up a book. If someone is anticipating a love story amidst an epic space battle between all the species of the galaxy, I don’t want him or her to be disappointed by the lack of aliens and explosions. Likewise, if a reader strongly prefers to only read books one hundred percent grounded in reality, I understand if Elysium is not the best choice.
So “contemporary sci-fi” it is. It’s the clearest, most concise way to set the stage and convey what sort of story lies within the pages. And hey, even if it’s not a widely-accepted genre (yet?), for fans of any kind of sci-fi, it’s just another realm to explore!
ELYSIUM
by Thea Landen
Two years have passed since April Patterson’s husband was shot and killed in the line of duty, and she’s trapped in a haze of grief and uncertainty. Having grown frustrated by all other efforts to engage her in activities where she could meet new people, her cousin pays for a date via 1Night Stand. Not thrilled with the idea, April nevertheless contacts Madame Eve and requests the impossible: a date with her deceased husband.
Brilliant software engineer Drew Monroe created his company, Elysium, to help give closure to those who have suffered the loss of a loved one, through the use of virtual reality. Though passionate about his work, being constantly surrounded by heartache and death has taken a toll on his mental health. When he accepts the case of a young widow referred to him by Madame Eve, her tragic tale depresses him further, but he commits himself to programming April the romantic date she desires.
April arrives at Elysium and prepares to enter Drew’s virtual realm. Will she find the solace she seeks within? Or will she discover she doesn’t need a fantasy world to discover happiness again?

We sat in silence. It was the first time a client had asked me so many personal questions. On one hand, I worried about coming across as unprofessional, but on the other, it felt good to verbalize those thoughts for a change. Putting that aside, April hadn’t come to play psychiatrist with me. I had a job to do.
“Anything else before we get started?” I pushed off the edge of the desk and straightened.
She didn’t get up. “Do you ever go into your own virtual realities?”
“Actually, I don’t.” I ran a finger along the top of one of the screens. “First of all, it needs to be monitored from the outside. I can’t do both at the same time.”
“Got it.” She nodded. “What else?”
A clammy feeling crawled over me. “Nothing.”
“You said ‘first of all.’ That means there must be a second.”
She’d paid attention, I’d give her that. I tried to backtrack. “Forget it.”
Sliding her arm off the chair, she leaned forward, ginger hair spilling over her shoulders. “I want to know what I’m getting into. Tell me.” Face upturned, she stared at me and I struggled to breathe in a normal rhythm. “Please?”
Don’t say it, don’t admit to it, she doesn’t need to know…. Talking to her eased a little of the tension that had been twisting tighter and tighter over time. I ignored the voices telling me not to make a confession, but the words spilled out faster than I’d intended.
“With all the misery and heartache I see in the world, the temptation exists to disappear into a painless fantasy.” The chill spreading through me intensified. “I’m afraid I’d lose myself and never want to come out.”
April blinked her long lashes and straightened in the chair. “That’s one of the reasons I’m anxious about going in there.”

“Edward.” Her hand slid up his lapel. Turning, he found her gray gaze upon him, a faint crease between her brows. “What is different?”
He stared into her eyes. She met his monocular gaze, no part of her expression revolted by the eye patch, the scars. He glanced at her hand, stroking his chest almost absently, her attention fully and totally on him. “When I received your letter, the one meant for Etta, it was like a ray of light, a beacon through relentless gray. So I responded and you sent your next letter and they….You were so full of joy, it bubbled out from the page and made me think perhaps I could experience it, if only a little. You had Etta, and your parents, and your employment, and though all three annoyed you on occasion, you had such…illumination.” His finger began a mad rhythm against his leg. “I’ve never had any of that. I’ve been here alone since the accident. I didn’t go to Eton. I was too ill. By the time I was old enough to attend university, I was so far behind there was no point. I went to London for the Season, but…. That did not turn out well.” Memories of horrified stares assaulted him, the whispers and notoriety that had come with his foray into society. Forcing the memories away, he said, “So I came home, and stayed.
“Then you sent me a letter. A bright, shining thing, and we corresponded and I…I wanted to meet you. So I arranged it that Beecham brought you to Sowrith, but I never thought he would not tell you, that I—” He grimaced. “You know what happened.
“Then you arrived, you were here, and I couldn’t…. There were no words. So I stood like a fool and watched you, and I wished I had the words that came so easily by pen. You were just like your letters—bright and gold and glittering, with your smile and your lightness, even when you frowned. And that was amazing to me. You are amazing to me. I wish I could…I wish I could tell you…” Finally, he looked at her.
Eyes wide, she regarded him, her chest rising and falling rapidly.
Shifting his weight, he averted his gaze. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said those things. I—”
A gentle finger against his lips stilled his words, and he remained silent as her hand slipped to cup his cheek. The ruined one. Emotion shuddered through him as he absorbed her touch.
“See? You say such things and I can’t…” Her thumb tracing his cheekbone, her other hand slid up his chest to crumple his lapel as she pulled. Following her direction, he leaned down.
Tentatively, her lips brushed his.
Hardly daring to breath, he stood stock still as she hesitantly explored the shape of his mouth, her lips molding to his with small stops and starts. Her tongue darted against his lips and he shuddered, the sensation exquisite and overwhelming.
Wrapping his good arm around her, he urged her close. She came, her arms slipping about his neck as her lips opened under his. The wind tore at his hair and howled in his ears, his heart thundering in his chest. Her mouth was warm and eager, tasting of honey and gold. Of Gwen.
