First sneak peek at HER ALIEN HERO for #TeaserTuesday #1NS @DecadentPub #sfrgtt

SFRG Teaser Tuesday

Hello everyone! I decided to join the wonderful authors at the Sci-Fi Romance Group for Teaser Tuesday to give you the first glimpse of my upcoming release, HER ALIEN HERO.

The Sci-Fi Romance Group is a Facebook group filled with authors and readers who enjoy science fiction romance. There is a limited amount of promo allowed in the group, but it is a place to discuss the genre in books, movies, television formats, and more. You can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/the.scifi.romance.group/

On to HER ALIEN HERO… This is my eighth 1Night Stand story, and the second that takes place in Ottawa. All the stories in the Romancing the Capital sub-series of this line take place during the upcoming conference of the same name which I will be attending next month. My story will release on April 1, 2015, and I’ll be giving you sneak peeks all week. Here’s the first…

HerAlienHero_500x750“No.” Melinda shook her head with vigor. “No way. I’ve had enough one-night stands in my life. You know that. I don’t need or want another. Ever.” She flopped back on the bed, trying to forget the sting of rejection at being kicked out of a warm bed at three o’clock in the morning and making the walk of shame to her car, or waking up alone. Worse yet, the guy who woke up beside her and didn’t even remember her name. She was done with it all. Done.

“But this is different.” Her friend tossed the paper at her. “It’s more like a blind date. The owner of the company chooses the guy you’ll go out with. No profiles to look at and no obscene messages from creeps.”

“Sounds too good to be true, if you ask me.” She’d been burned too many times trying new ways to meet men.

“Read the testimonials. From couples still together, many of them married shortly after their date.”

Melinda rolled her eyes. “Okay, so she got a few right, but how many mismatches did this woman make along the way? How many of her clients will tell you they ended up with an asshole? I don’t want to be an Oops, I got it wrong case.”

“C’mon, Mel, take a chance. I swear, if you don’t do this, I’ll do it for you. I’ve already started filling out my own application. I’m going to do yours next.”

With a sigh, Melinda read the testimonials on Lauren’s screen then reached down to grab her laptop case. Too good to be true, maybe, but Madame Eve did have a high success rate and had set up some very high-profile couples. “Fine, I’ll do it.” Besides, if she refused, Lauren would sign her up. She noted the cost of a 1Night Stand and didn’t want to be someone’s charity case, no matter how close they were.

Filling in the never-ending online form, she told almost truths, though she may have left a few pounds off her weight. And her height may have included her high heels. When asked to describe her ideal man, she paused. In every story she wrote, her hero came from outer space, as she didn’t believe any good single men still existed on Earth. Women who already knew what they wanted in life had snatched them up in their twenties without exception. If only she’d been ready to get hitched at that age.

A sexy, hard-working man from another planet.

There! Let Madame Eve find her a man who fit her bizarre description.

~ About HER ALIEN HERO ~

Librarian by day, erotic romance author by night, Melinda Rose sets out for another exciting conference, this one in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa. But all her plans go up in smoke when the 1Night Stand she applies for is set to happen at the same time.

Cooper Tate heads to Ottawa to meet a friend. When he learns of her deception, he is ready to head back home and vows never to trust her again. That is, until he sees a picture of his stunning date.

With the help of Madame Eve, can these two former neighbors become lovers? Or will extraterrestrial secrets rip away the hero Melinda has always dreamed of?

blog space excerptThe water was perfect. The bubbling water was clear and warm as they slid down. Luna giggled and jumped in, splashing Maeve and Gin with a shout of joy. Gin watched in amusement as she swam like a Tabinese turtle. He felt the burn of the muscles in his side fade away as he settled back against the rocks that circled the pool. It was long and wide enough to do several laps, and deep enough for Luna to do cannonballs. Maeve settled next to him, her arms floating on the water as she laid her head back and looked up at the moon.

“She swims very well.” Gin said, clapping when Luna did a somersault in the water. Maeve’s smile was wide as she watched their daughter play.

“She always liked the water. I took her to lessons when she turned three.” Her eyes were sad when she turned them to Gin. “I feel horrible about keeping her from you all these years.”

Gin shook his head, stretching one arm behind her over the rocks. “It was probably better you did, to be honest. Does it suck? Hell yes. To tell the truth I wasn’t father material back then. Probably not even now.”

Maeve turned to him, splashing a little water on his face with her hand. He sputtered and wiped it away as Luna laughed from her end of the pool. “Don’t ever say that!” Maeve scolded. She put her hands on his cheeks, drawing his eyes to hers. “She is lucky you’re her father.”

“Rather than the alternative?” he asked. He regretted it the minute the words slid off his tongue. Maeve blinked, the hurt sweeping across her face. She dropped her hands and sat back in the water, her shoulders stiff. The water covered her breasts and nearly all of her shoulders, but he could see it ripple with each angry breath she took. Her face blushed red with fury. “I’m sorry.” The words sounded lame, even to him. It wasn’t enough to say sorry. He’d wounded her without even meaning to. She turned to look at him, her eyes bright.

“No. Don’t be. It’s the truth. I am glad it was you and not him. Really damned glad. “She licked her lips, “I would still love her, Gin, even if she was his.”

He curled his arm over her shoulders, pulling her close. “Don’t be ashamed of that, Maeve. She’s a child. She has no control over her parentage, none of us do. I would love her too. Even if she was his.”

Maeve looked up at him and surprised the hell out of him by sealing her mouth over his, kissing his breath away. She didn’t pull back until Luna started laughing and splashing them with water.

“Ewwww!” the little girl shrieked. “Stop kissing my Daddy! That’s gross!”

Gin smiled against Maeve’s lips as she backed away just enough to let him breathe.

“What was that for?” he asked softly. She rubbed a finger over his lips.

“For being you.”

Gin felt uncomfortable with the look in her eyes. It held the weight of her heart, and she’d just placed it squarely in his hands. It was a huge responsibility, to care for it and for Luna’s. It was the most precious gift, besides his daughter, that he’d ever been given. He grinned at Luna and pulled her in between them, so that both he and Maeve could hug her. She squealed with delight as they tickled and kissed her. Gin tossed her into the water as she laughed with a happy abandon he’d do anything to feel again. He was sore and tired, but the water was licking away all the tension in his muscles, finally relaxing him. He let stress go that he was sure he’d been holding for five years. It washed away in the water as he smiled and laughed with his family.

Family. He’d had one, once. A mother and a father who loved him. Bry, his brother in everything but blood. Jaria, his sister. This thing with Luna and Maeve, though, it was somehow more. It gave him a feeling he hadn’t been able to name before. It wrapped him in the emotion and helped him shed years of fear and anger. He watched as Maeve played in the water with Luna, the dark swimsuit hugging her curves lovingly. In the moonlight as she laughed she was the most beautiful sight he’d ever seen. He knew the name of that feeling as he watched her play with their daughter. It was happiness.

“So, who are you here with? Where are Melody and Zach?”

“They’re in line with my…boyfriend.” Sera swallowed the sudden lump in her throat. What are Rob’s friends going to think? She hadn’t thought about that.

“You’re dating already? I thought you’d wait longer, at least until I had a chance to ask you out.”

Sera crossed her arms. She didn’t expect her friend to make her so uncomfortable. Fingers clenched onto her shoulders and someone cleared their throat behind her.

“Hi, Zach. Hi, Melody,” Derek said.

They waved and grabbed their drinks before sitting beside her.

“And this must be your boyfriend. A little young, isn’t he?”

A Question for my Readers…

questionHello all, I have a couple of questions for you as I try to figure out what stories my readers want more of.

First, tell me please how/where you first discovered my books.

Secondly, I’d love to know if you read all of my books, or just those within a specific subgenre. Do you prefer alien romances, stories about clones or androids, dystopian worlds, stories set on Earth, or other planets, paranormal, or contemporary? Do you look for the more erotic titles or prefer the sweeter stories? Do you read my F/F stories, menages, or prefer M/F?

Thank you for answering! BTW, have you entered my contest for one of my audio book titles?

Can he change her mind in time to save her life? THE GODDESS’S CURSE by @CaraBristol

The Goddess's Curse by Cara BristolTHE GODDESS’S CURSE
by Cara Bristol

Sharona women and barbarian Lahon men maintain separate lives until libidinal fever strikes, and the women are forced to mate.

Stricken by a mysterious terminal illness, Sharona Princess Reena jumps at the chance to accompany a cousin on her mating journey so she can at least see a Lahon before she dies.

Garat, leader of the Lahon, hates the Sharona because of the woman who birthed and killed his son years ago. Now that a massive earthquake has left his people with precious little water, he has the perfect excuse to exact revenge by driving the Sharona from their homeland and taking what the Lahon need.

When he encounters Reena on the mating journey he takes her hostage to force the Sharona to capitulate to his demands, but finds himself drawn to her instead. As his desire rises, lust for revenge wanes.

But after what he’s done, can he convince her of the evil that lives in the palace in time to save her life?

Under a caress of sunlight, Reena floated in the pond, grateful to have escaped the watchful eyes of servants, advisers, and bodyguards. Well, most of them. She cracked an eyelid. Yep. Carinda was still there, keeping a firm grip on her electrical impulse disruptor and a steady gaze on the perimeter. Her bodyguard’s caution and devotion were admirable—but unnecessary. No danger could penetrate the protected grotto.

Reena rolled over and dove deep. Tiny fish scattered. She touched the sandy bed then swam along the bottom until the need for air forced her upward again. She broke the surface and flung her hair out of her eyes.

Hip deep in the water, Carinda splashed toward her. “Oh my Goddess. You scared me to death.” The big, burly guard looked like an oversized drowned rodent. Reena would have laughed except for Carinda’s contorted, stricken expression. She didn’t want to scare anybody; she only needed solitude. “You worry unnecessarily. I have been swimming since I was a little girl.”

I can barely float, Princess,” Carinda replied. “Anything could have happened. I feared you were drowning.”

“I apologize. I shouldn’t have frightened you. Why don’t you return to the palace and get some dry clothes?”

Carinda shook her head. “No, I won’t desert you.”

“You’re not deserting me. You’ll be right back.” Please, give me a moment to myself. No attendants, no servants, no guards. “I’ll be safe. Promise.” She flashed her most beguiling smile.

“No, Princess.”

“I am not asking.” Treading water, Reena compressed her lips in frustration. “I command you to return to the palace.”

Carinda bit her lip then shook her head. “I’m sorry, Princess, the queen’s wishes supersede yours. I have been ordered not to leave you alone, in case…something befalls you.” Her hurt expression turned questioning. “I don’t know how you got out of the palace without anyone seeing you.” She stopped speaking, probably willing Reena to fill the silence with an explanation.

The bodyguard would have a long wait. The existence of the secret passage would go with Reena to her grave. She hadn’t shared that information with anyone, not even with her cousin Honna, her closest ally.

Reena lifted her chin, and Carinda conceded the battle. “It was fortunate I spotted you while patrolling the grounds.”

Unfortunate. Reena refused to feel guilty. “Please go to the palace. I won’t be long.”

“You are not well.” Carinda held her ground.

“I’ll stay with her.” Honna stepped from the path onto the beach.

Having her cousin nearby didn’t qualify as being alone, but Reena much preferred her presence to the guard’s. Despite a seven year age gap, they were best friends, as close as sisters.

“If anyone can take of me, she can,” Reena argued. She owed her continuing life to her cousin. The Goddess had gifted Honna with a natural talent for the healing arts, which she had honed by intensive training. If not for her, Reena would have already died. Once, she would have become Shara, but her mysterious illness cast doubt she would live long enough to ascend the throne currently held by her mother, Ellynna.

Carinda waded out of the pool. Dripping and shivering, she planted both feet on the bank.

“If you catch a chill in those wet clothes, then how will you protect me?” Reena called.

Carinda’s resolute expression wavered. “What if there are invaders? Barbarians who would catch a woman alone? The Lajon.”

“At the very center of the palace gardens? Unlikely,” Honna scoffed. “They would have to scale the perimeter wall, neutralize our guards, storm the palace, and then choose the right path to this bathing pool.”

And if barbarians did achieve the near-impossible and breach their defenses, a lone bodyguard would be no match for them. Pointing that out would cause worrywart Carinda to freak.

“I suppose you’re right,” she conceded, wrinkles of doubt lining her forehead.

Reena swam toward shore until her feet could touch the bottom and then stood. Water lapped at her shoulders.

“Go,” Honna said. “Everything will be fine.”

“Everything will be fine…” Muwahaha….Famous last words.

blog space excerpt

Nikki

My body being flung forward in the car from the hard braking roused me from a sound sleep. The rain struck the car harder now, but I had no trouble making out the two men framed in the headlights, standing in the middle of the road, dressed in black, their long coats flapping out like wings behind them. I blinked, but they were still there, like something from a science fiction movie. Except this was no fiction and it sure as hell was no movie screen we watched.

The one on the right raised his arm and pointed it in our direction. I could see a blue light slowly ringing his arm. As though he charged the weapon he held, when suddenly another blue blast hit him from behind and he went flying into the air. The other man with him didn’t pause to check on his friend, but also raised his hand.

I could see it glowing bright blue. Hotter, faster. My gaze rested riveted on it.

“Out. Get out!” Veil yelled. Breaking into my fear, he opened the door and pulled me out behind him. He dragged me into a wet ditch seconds before the car exploded. He didn’t wait but kept dragging me away from the explosion.

In my shock, I could do nothing but stumble after him in the rain. “Mr. Moss,” I croaked out.

Veil screamed, “RUN!”

Rescued by the Bad Boy in ALIEN ADORATION #MySexySaturday #scifirom

My Sexy Saturday

Hello all! Thank you all for joining me for week 83 of My Sexy Saturday! Here are the details: every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.

Today’s theme is…

SEXY ME UP

Here’s seven from ALIEN ADORATION. Enjoy!

Alien Adoration by Jessica E. Subject

Set-up: After two failed dates, play boy Luke has come to Rachel’s rescue twice. Here, he comes to her rescue again after the local church ladies want to set her up with another guy.

“She’s having dinner with me.”

Rachel gasped. Had she heard his voice, or just imagined it?

Luke stepped past the old bat, and into her office. “Good morning, Rachel. I’m sorry I missed you at the coffee shop this morning.” He nodded to the other women listening. “Mrs. Norris, Miss Shaw. Would you mind if I have a few moments alone with this beautiful young woman?”

Christine ducked away immediately, and Rachel swore she heard her friend squee. Mrs. Norris, on the other hand, gave him a ferocious glare. “I’ve heard about you. You’re no good for her.”

Tension blanketed her small cubicle, but Luke grinned back at the old woman. “I believe Rachel can make her own decisions.”

With one last glare, Mrs. Norris huffed off.

Alone with him in her cubicle, she froze, unable to form a coherent thought. After a deep breath, her heart jumped back to life, pumping faster than ever. Luke Jones had more or less invited her to dinner Friday night. What am I going to wear? Oh God, I have to shave.

~ About ALIEN ADORATION ~

Erotic dreams fill her with need…

Night after night, Rachel fantasizes about her sexy, playboy neighbor. But in her small town, no one changes, least of all the bad boy next door. But when Luke rescues her not once but twice from disastrous dates, she dares to believe her knight in black leather armor may be the right man for her after all.

Until she learns the truth…

Life on Earth has never been easy for Luke. Stranded as a little boy, he struggled to craft an existence for himself, but he never forgot the first human he met–and he never stopped wanting to see her again. Returning to Hanton, Luke longs for Rachel. Yet nothing goes as he plans, and Rachel barely notices him.  Convincing her he isn’t like all the jerks she’s dated means telling her the truth, but can she handle it?

Can she overcome her fears, or will she deny her alien adoration and leave him stranded once more?
