Ah, Texas, Picturesque Texas…

I'm writing this from the booming metropolis of Dallas, TX, home of… well, me. On Monday, when we took off from New York at 8:30pm, the pilot announced: The temperature at DFW is a balmy 106 degrees. ACK! Coming out of the terminal was like entering a sauna, but then the next day it cooled off nicely (in the 80s and 90s, YAY!). There are things that I love about Texas (TEX-MEX! Blue Bell!) and there are a things that I'm not so fond of. We were driving to my parent's home, about to...

Capes: The Must Have for Fall

[image error]I was surprised to discover the clothing item that no well-dressed woman can live without this Fall season is the cape!  Super heroes are in vogue again and each and every one of us should have a selection of capes to wear with our skinny jeans.  Okay, I confess, I have a pair of skinny jeans.  I kind of like the idea of a cape to go with them, especially if the cape is long enough, because, you know, when you wear skinny jeans, sometimes your body oozes out of the top of them and glops over ...

The midnight bestseller

[image error]I'm sorry. I can't write my blog tonight because, you see, I'm reading Mockingjay. Yes, I know I'm a day behind the rest of the world, but I had to re-read Hunger Games and Catching Fire before I could start it.

And while I didn't stand in line to buy it at midnight, I did pre-order it on my Kindle and watched as it appeared around 2am on release day.

Technology really is cool.

But it all got me thinking. I can remember waiting in lines for movies as a kid (actually, only The Empire...

Dog Days of Summer

[image error]Do you remember summer as a kid?   Playing outside until the sun goes down with only brief stops at home for food at lunch and dinner?  The sound of the ice cream truck coming down the street?

In my house we had a chest of drawers by the front door (a credenza, I learned as I grew older).  It was painted apple green and had a plate full of pennies on top.  We were allowed to use those pennies to buy ice cream.

I remember playing catch with my dad in the back yard.  My brother in his chaps a...

Walking on Jane

Classic Kathleen Givens, first published on 12/07/97 I couldn't do it.  Couldn't put a foot on Jane Austen's grave in Winchester Cathedral.  I paid my homage to one of The Whine Sisters' favorite writers with a simple donation to the Cathedral.  I took pictures of her grave and the plaque on the wall there, but I couldn't just walk over her gravestone, even though millions of other visitors have.  Check out the plaque and gravestone.  No mention of her writing.  Now isn't that interesting...

POP CULTURE MONDAY: WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN WATCHING?

I have to say, when we first got TiVo last year, I was skeptical. It didn't seem as if we were addicted to THAT many shows that it was really necessary. However, I quickly fell in love with TiVo when I realized I no longer had to choose between Dancing With the Stars and House on Monday nights. And I REALLY fell in love with TiVo when I realized that half of my favorite shows–Royal Pains, Vampire Diaries, The Mentalist, and Project Runway–are all on Thursday.  And starting next month...

Touch MePleasing a man is something former mistress Genevieve Ralston does very well. But after her lover callously dumps her, she's definitely off men…until she meets Simon! He's brooding. Sexy. And she can't keep her hands off him…

Each stroke of Genevieve's talented fingers unleashes his...

Fashionable Friday: The Wire Edition

This morning, I was browsing over the internet, looking for fashion tidbits or some newfangled style of dressing that was post-worthy, and I ended up on youtube, because you know, all the great fashions were first started on youtube, and then I found these two clips from the Wire, and I realized that some of our audience might be offended by said clips because they contain both a lot of verbal f**s (and I mean that in the true literal sense, rather than the NSFW pornish sense, although I...

Oops. Ever Have One of Those Days?

It's my turn to blog today.  Yesterday, I kept thinking there was something I needed to do, and I couldn't quite think what it was.  Sherri announced she was leaving on vacation, and would we keep an eye on her posts?  I said, sure, I'll be here, I have nothing but time.  Dee announced she was going on college tours, and would we keep an eye on her posts?  I said, Yes, I'll be around, I'd be happy to do it.  You'd think one of those requests might have jogged my memory, but no.  I completely ...
