IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BOOKS
Today's Thursday, which means I'm supposed to blog about writing, which means I'm going to stretch that into blogging about books. Like every writer I've ever met, I have lots of books. Lots and lots and lots of books. I've always loved books, and have collected them for years. My two favorite Christmas presents ever involve books. One was the year my sister gave me the final thirteen Nancy Drew books I needed to complete my collection (I was in 7th grade). The other was the year my...

Falling Slowly (no whine here)
[image error]Life in the city. It definitely has its ebbs and flows. Summer time is 'hot and gritty' as the song goes. There are lots of wonderful things happening. Outdoor eateries, concerts, lazy days in the park. But there are also smelly sidewalks, an increase in tourists and hot, humid days with little relief. If you're fortunate, you have a house in the country somewhere to escape. If not, you tend to stay inside by the air conditioner. Or head for shade—wherever you can find it. But...

A Cat in An Ikea Hat.
There was a video that passed by me the other day, and usually, I'm not a big online video watcher, because well, I don't know exactly why, but it seems like online video is a big time-suck, as opposed to, you know, spending five hours researching the latest breaking news out of Kansas City, which might be justified if, you know, my book was set in Kansas City, or if I was from Kansas City, or if I knew people from Kansas City, none of which ever applies, but for some reason, it doesn't make ...

One Season of Sunshine
Adopted as an infant, Jane Aaron longs to know the identity of her birth mother and why she gave her up. Her only clue is the name of the small Texas town where she was born, so she's come to Cedar Springs for answers.
Handsome ad executive Asher Price lost his wife, the beautiful, mysterious Susanna, in a terrible car crash eighteen months ago. When he hires Jane as the nanny for his two children, sparks fly. Jane finds herself falling in love with both Asher and his children, but begins t...
Oops, I Did It Again!
I pretended I was young, hip, and happening and knew what was going on in the MTV world enough to watch the Video Music Awards. Sure, I don't watch it, but I've heard of the Jersey Shore and The Hills. That's what MTV plays now, right? Fake reality shows? No? Oh, they're still making themselves out to be a video music source, haha, who knew? Okay, so I'll bite. I bit. I watched the "Video Music Awards" only to find out (yes) I don't know who a quarter of these people are anymore.
Ack.
Sure, I k...

In Memorium
[image error] I was all set to blog about landscaping (we're moving in TEN FREAKING DAYS and the builder only sodded the front yard, so I have a lovely–albeit muddy after 13 inches of rain–empty backyard plate to play with, and I want ideas, tips and input!). But as I settled in front of the computer at 12:24am (not that I do things last minute), I happened to notice the date. September 11. 24 minutes in.
And that was the end of the landscaping post, washed away in a flood of irritation directed at me. ...

Friday Fashion: Random Musings
Newsflash for magazine editors: Gross is not sexy.
Flavorwire ran a top ten best dressed characters in literature (and while I agree with them on a few, it seems they needed film versions to fuel their imaginations, for the most part. Tut, tut.)
Earlier in the week, Jacquie mentioned that she hates to go to the grocery store, and we all (mostly all) agreed. The main problem seems to be that wroters do not like dressing up to leave the house. Not a problem for many celebrities:

Writer's Corner Thursday: Inspiration
Every writer's FAQ: Where do you find inspiration?
Probably every writer's answer (definitely mine): Everywhere!
Maybe you don't write, but you have a lot of great ideas that you want to share with writers. Helpful, right? The trouble is that we're already so full of our own that we'll never find time to get to them all as it is. Finding new things to write about, forming new ideas for books or novellas, this is the easy part for me. The hard part is forcing myself to sit down and do the...

WEDNESDAY WHINE: BUT I DON'T WANNA GO!
Since it's Wednesday and I'm supposed to whine, I'm going to take on something that always makes me cranky. Going to the supermarket.
I hate going to the supermarket. For so many reasons. First of all, I have to get dressed to go. Now, this does not mean I usually walk around au natural. I don't. But since I work from home, I don't exactly get all dolled up to go to work. I'm usually in comfy pajama pants or shorts and a tank top–fine for wandering around the house, but not...

Good Books, Good Buys: From My Keeper Shelf
Like most of my sisters, I'm on deadline at the moment, which means that I'm not doing anything much but plotting, writing, thinking about plotting and writing, and angsting about how slowly said process is progressing. So I thought since I'm not reading at the moment (I don't read while I write), I'd go to my keeper shelf and share a favorite book with you all.
As you know, I'm a huge fan of Mary Stewart (no don't panic, I'm not going to tell you about another of her books). What I am g...
