Whiny Wednesday: Conference Report
[image error]You're reading this while I am at my happy place, in Walt Disney World, waiting for the start of the RWA Conference. Today, I'm probably in the Magic Kingdom (or possibly the Disney Hollywood Studios park) with Dee Davis, Julie Kenner, Kathleen O'Reilly, and anyone else who tagged along with us. We'll be visiting my favorite attractions and laughing lots, no doubt, and I will be having a fabulous time. And then we'll go sign books at the Dolphin resort from 5:30-7:30 pm, in the ball room...

Tuesday Good Books, Good Buys: Lost and Found
[image error]As you read this, I'm in Orlando at RWA (and for an update on the conference check out my blog on RWA in WDW for Barnes and Noble. But this is Good Books, Good Buys. So I'm going to share my sad story with a really happy ending. First the bad news. My almost new cell phone – a semi-literate Samsung – disappeared from my purse last week. I've no idea if it was lost or stolen, but no matter, it's gone. And my heart broke a little, because I'd totally fallen in love with it. And I...

Pop Culture Monday: Music
Well, it looks like I've got a shot at going to heaven after all. I had assumed, after decades of bad thoughts, and five years of publicly whining and serving snark (not to mention all my evil deeds), that I would be headed elsewhere. But after last Friday night, I now know I have at least a shot at hanging with St. Peter and the gang. So how did I pull off this unexpected turnaround? Well . . . all it took was going to see Andre...
Rivals for the Crown
Two childhood friends are caught in a web of intrigue, conspiracies and love as a valiant nation's freedom hangs in the balance.
1290: Turmoil erupts when Scotland's child queen perishes en route to claim the crown. Two bitter foes – John Balliol and Robert Bruce – emerge at possible successor, but England's Edward I has his own designs on Scotland.
In London, Edward has expelled all Jews from his kingdom. Rachel de Anjou is heartbroken to leave behind her best friend, Isabel de Burke, and...

Got serendipity?
Ever buy something you weren't planning on buying…and then it turned out you love it, and you wonder how you could have ever considered NOT buying it? Obviously, I have (or else that was the worst blog lead-in ever.) So here's what happened:
I didn't blog or tweet much about it, but a few weeks ago, my family did the driving thing from Texas to California. We went not only to visit friends and see their baby (now a darling little girl) but also to go to Disneyland. (Had a fab time!). Along t...

Mad for Mad Men Fashion
Mad Men returns this Sunday, and along with it, a whole new year of early sixties fashion. I am fascinated with the fashion on Mad Men because I can remember the adults in my family dressing like that. I remember the Sunday dresses and the gloves and hats. I also remember watching aunts squeeze into girdles and hooking their stockings to that awful belt thing. But don't they look marvelous?
I am not as big a fan of the hairstyles because I also remember having to sleep in rollers the...

Thursday Writer's Corner: Technology's the Thing
When I was young we listened to records from Danny Kaye and Disney. And then when I was eight I got a transistor radio and went to sleep every night listening with Diana Ross, Sonny and Cher or Steppenwolf blaring in my ear. In my teenage years, I had a Realistic tape recorder that I used to play my cassette tapes (Carpenters, Led Zeppelin, A Chorus Line, and the Partridge Family). Shortly after that, my brother was jamming out with the eight track in his car to the sounds of Kansas and...

WHINY WEDNESDAY: Who makes up these crazy rules anyway?
While in the grand scheme of things I have nothing to whine about–I'm healthy, employed, have a great husband and kid, a nice home–there are some small things that bug me, and since it's Whiny Wednesday, I'm gonna whine.

I ate 5 cookies--gotta walk to California
WHY is it that you can eat lettuce for a week and not lose one pound, but eat one freakin' cookie and it will require ten hours of treadmill time to remove it from your butt? Who made up stinkin' that rule?
And WHY is it that...

Good Buys: Footwear
As some of you may know, the Whine Sisters (minus too cool for school Julia London) are headed to Walt Disney World next week to be very serious and catch up on business at the annual Romance Writers of America Conference.
One thing that's very important when you're at conference is to protect your feet and stay comfortable. The days are long and there's lots of walking from workshop to workshop. Those cute heels you brought? Fantastic, but be sure to bring something to change into when your ...

Pop Culture Monday: Showing Some Old Spice Love
Old Spice, the men's fragrance that used to be the punchline in many jokes, has now come back in a new and funny way.
Click here to view the embedded video.
There's a ton of videos of the buff spokesman, lovingly clad in only a towel, his sculpted man-chest proudly exposed. In each video he answers a question or tweet (yes, oldspice is on twitter, check out the twitter feed @OldSpice ). Some are from names you know and some are simply @wspencer, rose, @georgeGSmithJr.
