A Scary Read for Halloween nights.....
'Father of Lies' by S. England, was released a couple of weeks ago and falls into the supernatural horror genre...but possibly, as some readers suggest, also thriller and even detective.
This is based on 2 years work, extensive research, and my background in psychiatry.
A highly vulnerable young woman with what used to be called multiple personality disorder, is admitted to a forensic psychiatry unit on the bleak Derbyshire moors in England. With no known identity and totally unresponsive to treatment, she is eventually hypnotised... with disastrous consequences. A horrific dark force is now unleashed on an unsuspecting medical team, as each in turn attempts to unlock the girl's shocking past. And soon enough all paths lead to a desolate mining village, a deserted mill... and The Father of Lies...
Nine 5* reviews so far on Amazon...so if you'd like a really scary read on a chilly Autumn night....it's just £1.99 on kindle, and the paperback is also available if you prefer. Also on smashwords.
A giveaway is currently open on goodreads and there is a Halloween event on facebook, which also offers 2 free copies... more info on https://www.facebook.com/sarahengland...

H.P. Lovecraft
'Father of Lies' was launched just 2 weeks ago and I have been a writer - mostly magazines - for around 12 years - but this was my pearl, the novel I had to write because of the illness and the injustice I had witnessed, and because of my background. Alas, with thousands of new books out there and all the big noise top publishing houses, I had resigned myself to the fact that it might never see much light. Then I got this - the 8th review on amazon - from someone I don't know and who I have never met...to be honest it almost made me cry... to be compared to H.P. Lovecraft.... here goes with some of it!
'Having finished this just a few days ago, I have just picked up another book, a new mainstream horror book by an establishment writer, and have put it down and laughed it off after the first chapter. Mainstream 'Horror' just seems so corny after having read Father Of Lies - and now redundant.
What is really strong about this book is the disturbing knowledge that this isn't melodramatic horror, but based on a background of real experience. That is seriously chilling and it really does make mainstream horror laughable in comparison. There are no big scenes or climaxes, just disturbing events that creep up and escalate, becoming more chilling and dark the further it goes on, the magnificent handling of the characters by the writing style drawing you into not only to the personalities caught up in this, but truth behind the unfolding case in front of them.
It is rare to read a book with this pace, with conversations between groups of people, where the conversation remains totally natural and flowing and without ever losing track or losing the tension in the situation. The writer's skill in this particular technicality is exceptional. I also found that the tension created in one chapter of an evening walk in the woods became real edge-of-the-seat nerve-jangling, even though nothing actually was revealed. This isn't Stephen King horror territory - it's H P Lovecraft! The writing is an absolute joy.'

First reviews for supernatural horror novel, Father of Lies
Launched just last week - Father of Lies is a supernatural horror novel out on amazon in digital and paperback. This will soon be available on other publishing outlets too...
However, the main thing is, reviews are now coming in.... and so far these precious reviews are heartening because every writer wants their readers to be happy.. well I do! Or scared... :) And there are 5* reviews on amazon and on here today... here's the latest and I am so happy with the comments. ....Here's a snippet:
'Wow! What a ride this book it is! It is officially the first book I have ever had to stop reading at night - yep, it's that scary. 'Designed to scare the pants off Stephen King' - well, it did the same to me, nonetheless I could hardly put it down. It's compelling, it's shocking and it's insightful. In a word - it's brilliant - one of the best 'horrors' I've read in ages.....'

Seriously scary background to new supernatural horror novel, Father of Lies.
It's only been out a few days but already readers are telling me 'Father of Lies' is seriously scary stuff... so how come a magazine and comedy writer like me happened to write a horror novel like this? Because I can tell you that the background and research for Father of Lies was pretty hairy!
..
Well, I originally qualified as a nurse and then worked as a medical rep specialising in psychiatry, so a lot of my work did have a medical basis, but this is very different indeed.
In FOL we meet Ruby in a high security forensic psychiatric unit, which sits on the bleak Derbyshire moors (where I'm from). Ruby is a very disturbed and aggressive patient who is unresponsive to treatment, so after almost 2 years with no improvement the psychiatrist decides to hypnotise her ...much to his regret!
A horrific dark force is now unleashed on the medical staff, while Ruby mysteriously makes a dramatic recovery, albeit exhibiting what used to be called multiple personality disorder ( now Disassociative Identity Disorder). As each member of staff in turn, attempts to unlock her shocking and sinister past, we travel further and further into the heart of darkness - to a deserted mill in a desolate northern mining village.
Research for FOL involved reading on demonology, exorcisms and forensic psychiatry. Some of this I had to do in very short slots during full daylight, and afterwards I gave the exorcism and demonology books to a friend who wouldn't have them in the house and eventually we burnt them!!!
In addition to all of this, the story itself was sparked by a lady I met with the aforementioned condition: I have never been more moved, or shocked, by someone's plight.
Well, I guess it remains to be seen if readers will like it - there is a serious message along with all the frights....so here goes....
Oh - there's a giveaway starting on here in a few days time, but in the meantime it's available on amazon kindle for just £1.99...enjoy... sleep tight!

New supernatural horror 'Father of Lies'
Father of Lies - a brand new supernatural horror novel - is now out in kindle and paperback on amazon.
The launch party went really well yesterday and the kindle sales reached the top 100 in 'Occult' early this morning. The paperback was not available until late last night but hopefully that will be a popular option too?
So what is Father of Lies all about? Well it's very scary! No, seriously - very! This book is designed to scare the reader witless...in the nicest possible way. But you've not to be faint-hearted that's for sure. I suppose it's a culmination of all my years in psychiatry, and then writing fiction for magazines, then researching demonology and the occult (as you do)...so that when I met a lady with what used to be called multiple personality disorder - well FOL began to take shape.
Here's a synopsis:
With no known identity or family, Ruby is the most disturbed and aggressive patient ever to be admitted to Drummersgate high security forensic unit, which sits high on the bleak Derbyshire moors. After 2 years with no improvement, psychiatrist Jack McGowan, decides to take a risk and hypnotises her using LSD. From that moment onwards everything changes. A horrific, dark force is unleashed on everyone who tries to help her... with paths eventually leading to a desolate mining village, where secrets are kept and incomers are hounded from their homes.....want to know more? I dare you.....

EchoWords
Oh it's all new here at EchoWords!
I've taken my comedy novel - Expected - off the publisher and put it onto my own label. 'Expected' is the first of the Sam Sweet disaster novels, and the sequel will be ready in early 2015. At the moment I have it up and ready on kindle, and the paperback will be ready by the weekend - 12th September 2015. Next I'll put 3am and Wide Awake onto kindle and paperback, again with EchoWords - and that should be ready by next weekend. After that I'll launch my brand new supernatural thriller.
I set up EchoWords as a literary company - to publish and market my existing work and the new supernatural horror. Plus the sequel to Expected next year.
It also offers proofreading services and in time, will hopefully publish other author's work.
I will try to change the covers on here in due course and provide links but that's me up to date for the moment....
Phew! Back soon...
