Sweet Talk

Sweet Talk is out today - a feelgood collection of short stories by prolific magazine writer, Samantha Tonge.

I have known Sam for a while now through facebook and writing groups, as a fellow short story writer for magazines. Although our styles differ hugely, our journeys have been on a similar rollercoaster. So it is wonderful to see her launch her debut collection, and to interview her today in Fiction Hotel.

Please find Sam's interview in the Rooftop garden of Fiction Hotel, along with links to her website and author page. Her book is now in the library along with quite a collection now, of all sorts of genres following interviews with the authors. Tabs along the top of each page for interviews....

Congratulations Sam! http://www.ficitonhotel.blogspot.com

new anthology and serial

Lots of news! First there is a new anthology coming out on 18th November with Alfie Dog Fiction. 'A Wish for Christmas' features one of my stories, which I am thrilled about - and there are lot of well known writers in there too! Very excited about that and it will, of course, be on goodreads the moment it's out.

Secondly, I wrote a 3 part murder-mystery serial for a national magazine (UK) and it has just been passed by the fiction editor. I now have everything crossed that it will be accepted by the magazine editor, who has the final say...tenterhooks!

Thirdly I am knee deep in research for my latest project - a supernatural thriller. This is the big one for me...and I'm very excited about it.

Back soon...

Ghost Stories and How to Write Them

My guest this week in Fiction Hotel is Kathleen McGurl - also known as womagwriter because of her brilliant blog for magazine writers! Her 'how to' book 'Ghost Stories and How to Write Them' is now in Fiction Hotel's library with a link, and her interview is in 'The Haunted Hallway' (all tabs across the top).

Fiction Hotel is filling up nicely now with lots of new authors and new books - all of which can be found in the library. The interviews are in suitable rooms... so crimes/murders are in unlucky Room 13 and chicklit is in the spa....

Well here is the link if you fancy a look around... http://www.fictionhotel.blogspot.com

Enjoy!

New thriller

Started my new, long-promised (to myself) supernatural thriller today! I've been sending myself mad trying to think of a title that is dead right! Not ok - but spot on! And finally I got it. So now it's off to the library to do some more research and just hope the librarian doesn't take too much note of the subject matter... evil cackles... in case she thinks I am a black witch or something.

So yes - I veer from comedy to horror like an out of control typewriter whizzing from one end of the scale to the other. But this is going to be the big one for me - a culmination of all I have learned - as a nurse, a medical rep in mental health products, a writer of both short stories and a novel...time to put it all together.

Excited. Lots of hard work ahead. And in the meantime I'll blog about whatever is happening with '3am' and 'Expected' and the murder serials.... Oh and still doing lots of reading. I'm reading 'The Birdman' by Mo Hayder at the moment...will review soon!

Cover design award for Expected

http://www.thebookdesigner.com/2013/0...

How brilliant to win something! I never win things -ever! So here was a lovely thing to happen - 'Expected' won the gold star award from the book designer - link above! It is for the artwork/design for the cover - which I chose! So I can share in the delight I think... It also means I can display the badge on my website! How I love gold stars and badges. Must be my upbringing and because I so rarely got any....Expected

news

Sigh of relief that it is done - just submitted my 3 part murder mystery serial off to national mag for their response - nerve wracking! I have had one published before - this March - and was asked to try another. Since then I had 2 attempts but they fell at the first fence - this has got through to the final stage but it's that yes or no nail-biting bit now.... It's so important for it to get through as I'm starting a new book now and the serial writing is extremely intense and takes a good month to do....

Next bit of news - I have just had a little Christmas story accepted for an anthology with Alfie Dog Fiction - it will be out on 18th November - no title yet..as hot off the press.

Finally - the crooked cat sale is now on - end of summer sale! All kindle downloads are at 77p/99c for a few more days, so if you fancy a few wicked laughs with 'Expected' - now is a good time ....

Another review for Expected went onto Amazon yesterday (UK) and another on here today....that makes me really happy and thank you very much to those reviewers.

Sale

My new comedy novel, 'Expected' is in the crooked cat sale - for a few days only - and is just 77p/99c on amazon at the moment. Less than a cup of coffee....If you'd like to give it a try!

Also - Expected got its 16th review on amazon.uk this morning.Thankfully a good one... Reviews make me very nervous because reading is so subjective and as you may have seen - someone decided to give Expected a 1* on here.... within 2 days of it being launched. All that work.....Yes I was shocked and yes I cried....

Thankfully since then most people have left 5* or 4* reviews and that's been great - because Expected is comedy! And there are also controversial issues in Expected - so doubly subjective - actually make that triple if we count fiction itself!

No wonder I'm a nervous wreck. The good news is I will be out of rehab soon. So they tell me.

Right - back to my darkly supernatural stuff... oh and here is the link - Expected
or if you prefer the dark side...3am and Wide Awake

Have a great weekend everyone! I'm doing the ironing...

Della Galton - my guest this week!

Della Galton is my guest this week in Fiction Hotel - http://www.fictionhotel.blogspot.com

Della is a well known and prolific short story writer for magazines, also a creative writing teacher, author of fiction and non-fiction books, and the current No.1 'How to Eat Loads and Stay Slim' - which she was interviewed about on the Radio 2 Steve Wright show yesterday!

So it is a huge delight to welcome her to Fiction Hotel today. I've checked her into the spa for her interview so hope to see you there...

Oh and in the hotel library there is now quite a nice collection of all the books with links - from the authors I've interviewed so far...I really hope you like it!

3am and Wide Awake

My next writing project will be back into the murky world of the supernatural... Many of the stories in '3am and Wide Awake' which was published in May of this year, are based on my experiences in the medical world, or on research - ie there are elements of truth!

The collection has just been reviewed in the current issue of That's Life Fast Fiction in Australia - and now has seven 5* reviews on amazon - and one mean one!!! It has also been reviewed by professional critic Chris High, and columnist, Gina Dickerson - their links are on my website to those reviews. Anyway - as I make my way back over to the dark side... I thought I'd mention my short stories...see if anyone fancies a read...Here's a taster..

‘3am and Wide Awake' is a collection of 25 thrillers and chillers. From the demonically inspired title story, to the madness of 'Girl in the Rain', or the shocking sadness of 'Rough Love' - there is one common factor - each story will take you to the edge of the precipice, and then bring you safely back again. Usually...
Dip into revenge with 'Retribution', or medieval terror with 'The Witchfinders'...Dare to invite a stranger into your house with 'Moving In'. Can you bear the aching loneliness of 'Burned'? Or the frightening consequences of dabbling with a Ouija board in 'Out of the Woods'? Why is a top surgeon being haunted by a vengeful woman in, 'A Second Opinion'? And what happened to the girl who took 'The Last Bus Home'?

Winners of Expected!

Very happy to announce that two people will each receive a copy of Expected in paperback, now that my first giveaway on goodreads has ended. Both winners are in the USA - so I really hope they like Sam Sweet and enjoy lots of laughs!

I wonder if US readers will like Expected...I mean, our humour isn't that different, is it? I laugh hugely at 'Ace Ventura' & 'Airplane' and 'Planes,Trains and Automobiles' ... And I love Joan Rivers...but will US readers like Sam Sweet's self-deprecation and 'sod's law' humour? It will be interesting to find out - but anyway, I really hope that my two lovely winners enjoy it!

Posting on Monday... Expected
