Blood rising

           “What?”
Sean asked following my gaze across the yard.

I could feel my blood rising.  It kept rising until it was hard to breathe,
hard to think.  When Sean saw that Mathew
was sitting kissing the brunette he suggested he refill my beer.  I watched to make absolutely sure it was him and
then turned away.  It’s nothing
resounded like a broken record in my head.  I was offered a joint.  I took a hit and then another before I passed
it on.  Make a scene or get loaded, I
decided loaded was better.

Eactly prudish

“Sort of, she took me for a walk down the beach, and then took me
to bed,” Ryan said flatly.

            I about spit out
the sip of beer I’d just taken.

            “You and Jackie
slept together?” I said laughing.

            “Well, it wasn’t
exactly sleeping.  She said it was my
birthday present and was pretty
persistent when I tried to laugh her offer off,” he said.

            “You slut,” I said
laughing again.

            “Oh, yeah, coming
from a girl that hasn’t been exactly prudish,” he ribbed.

            I ignored
him.

Editing, writing, and stuff

I've been editing the last two weeks, or really going through what my editor suggested on Gem Rats.  It's a lot of work, but good.  I know it will help with future writing.  Two new novels are out for editing, a young adult, and a women's fiction.  If there is an agent looking for either let me know.  Looking forward to getting back to writing later this week, today unfortunately is the property management stuff.....

Baby mama

“Well, Brad I’m halfway
through a workout with Stella how do you think it’s going?” Jillian answered breathlessly.

Brad smiled at her and
turned back to Greg.

“So how’s the baby
doing?” Brad asked.

Jillian looked from Greg
to Brad and back again.  Greg stood still
not saying a word, his smile had disappeared.
Jillian glanced at Stella and could see the confusion on her face.  They looked at each other wondering what Brad
was referring to.  Jillian waited as the
silence became more and more uncomfortable.
Brad finally broke it.

“Greg’s a new dad,” he
said squirming slightly.  “Elaine had a
baby girl.  You told them right?”

Behave?

           Gayle
and I lay in the hammock together in her yard later that afternoon.  It took Jane and me to get her into the
thing.  I was nervous about getting her
out.  We were reading magazines, I
couldn’t focus.  I kept thinking about
his words “love me”.  Could he mean
emotionally?  I wasn’t sure.

“So party was fun?” Gayle asked
absently.

            “Yeah, after party even better.”

            “Mathew behave?”

            “Fairly well.”
            I didn’t always tell
Gayle everything when it came to him and she in return didn’t tell me some of
her true feelings.

Never-ending

It snowed yesterday and last night.  I love the beach, and winters get long, but it's still so pretty.  Today I get to hunker down with my heater and work on books.  It's never-ending...

Too close

Christmas Day was rough for me.  Ryan was his normal self but I felt self
conscious and awkward around him.  My
feelings were still too close to the surface.
As much as I wanted to be his friend, it felt impossible.  I could tell dad was miffed at mom for making
me feel uncomfortable.  There was a short,
related but unrelated, fight between the two of them at the dinner table.  Ryan left shortly after.  He called me the next day.

            “I didn’t mean to
create tension.  Your Mom was so
insistent that I come.  I figured you two
had talked about it.  I should have asked
you.  Are your folks okay?” he asked.

Hot cocoa, that's what I feel like I need today, and maybe a cookie--not liking the start right now.

Wouldn't leave it alone

“I invited Ryan for Christmas,” she said
sheepishly.

“Mom,” I said irritated.

I rolled my head back in frustration.  It was almost like she wouldn’t leave it
alone, like she was trying to fix things, make it be different.

“He doesn’t have anyone here.  We’re like family to him, he needed some
place to go,” she defended herself.

“Maybe I’ll stay home then,” I said, pouring
more wine into my glass.

“Morgan, stop it,” she said.

“You stop it,” I hissed at her.  “I’m trying to stay away from him and oh
whoops sorry, my Mom invites him for Christmas day.  Please tell me not for dinner too?”

She looked at me and I knew it would be the
whole day.

“God damn it Mom,” I said gloomily.

“I’m glad you like the tree,” she said.

Shattered and raw

Kingdom Come did tour Australia that
summer.  I went home with my heart
shattered and raw.  Logically knowing it
couldn’t work between us didn’t help ease the pain.  I spent my summer trying to detach myself
from him emotionally, again.  He sent
postcards telling me what they were doing.
The notes were brief with no reference to us.  He seemed to be simply filling his promise to
try and keep it touch.
