Book Review: Mark of The Witch by Jessica Gibson
Jilly and Caroline are both witches. They’re also sisters, which instantly reminded me of Charmed. The book stays quite truthful to the way Charmed handles witches as well. Jilly makes potions using a cauldron, for example. Whereas Jilly fully accepts her powers and witch-status, Caroline resents her powers and wishes she were normal. This has caused a divide between both sisters, and they’ve grown apart. When their mother dies and Caroline moves halfway across the country, their relationship...

Book Review: Three Graves Full by Jamie Mason
I wanted to enjoy this book. The moment I read the description, I knew I would like the plot, so I wanted to like the rest as well. Unfortunately it didn’t quite turn out like that.
Jason thinks himself a reasonable, calm man. That image however disagrees with the body buried in his backyard, the body he knows is there but he won’t acknowledge. In an effort to hide it even more, he hires a landscaping team who stumble upon a body in his backyard. The only problem? It’s not the body of the man...

Book Review: So You Want to Hunt Ghosts? by Deonna Kelli Sayed
It’s hard to rate this book because it’s not exactly a memoir about ghostly encounters. It’s a field guide using the author’s expertise. By their nature, guides are more cut-and-dry. They don’t have a plot or characters, but they can be entertaining or boring, depending on how well-written they are and how they cover the subject matter. For me, So You Want to Hunt Ghosts? holds the middle between boring and entertaining. At times, I was very engrossed in the book, and other times I didn’t car...
Book Review: One Breath Away by Heather Gudenkauf
It’s difficult to paste an age group onto this book. It can be read by young adults and older, and some of the main characters fall within that age category. However, the theme is very dark, more than half of the main characters are adults, so I would classify it as an adult book, but not necessarily something that can be read by adults only.
In Broken Branch, the tight-knit community never suspected an armed gunman would break into their school and hold their children hostage. When the unthin...

Book Review: Love/Life: Hot in Houston
Love/Life: Hot in Houston reminded me of Gossip Girl. The main characters are two rich heiresses who are actually half-sisters, but they tend to get along well enough to forget that little fact. There is intelligent, clear-minded Jasen and intuitive, passionate Adrienna. Sometimes it seems like they’re miles apart, both in space and in thought, but they’re the best of friends. They have all the money in the world, only have to bother about gossip, going out, partying and hanging out with thei...
