Book Review: For When The Veil Drops by West Pigeon Press

For When The Veil Drops is a dark fiction anthology released by West Pigeon Press featuring a large collection of authors. As a whole, the collection is pretty decent. It ranges from dark, surreal fiction to macabre, horrifying short stories. There is no red wire throughout the book though, it’s just dark fiction. I prefer anthologies focused on a certain theme, like haunted houses, gothic horror, or surreal horror, or something like that. At least then I know what to look for each time aroun...

Book Review: Winter Shock by Sally Dubats

I have to admit that I didn’t get a chance to read Veil Between Worlds, the first book in the series before starting on this one. It was pretty easy to follow though, but I checked a few reviews to see what Veil Between Worlds was all about.

Trenton is one of my favorite love interests in YA literature. Why? Because he confused the hell out of me. Pardon the language, but I spend more pages saying “what the hell” than anything else when reading this book, up to the point he made so many twists...

Book Review: The Keep by Jennifer Egan

When I bought this, it was marketed as a ghost story. It’s not. It’s literary fiction.

I struggled to find a suitable rating for The Keep, doubting between giving it 3 or 4 stars. The book itself has a lot of good points, namely the plot, which is build up of two different stories that connect halfway through the book. I actually like this ‘story in a story’ concept, which reminds me of Inception. But then there are also so many bad things about this book that I have trouble summing all of the...

When she returns to her half-sister’s tavern, she meets all her old friends again. They gathered there because they wanted to come up with a plan to fight against Devlyn. Cover Reveal Shattered Silence

Keith never believed in Happily Ever After, at least not for someone like him. However, that’s exactly what it feels like when he has the love of his life by his side.

Alice fought everything she was, everything she thought she wanted to be, just to save him. When the nightmare blew over and the both of them were left standing, she thought she’d get her shot at happiness.

But how long can bliss last when everything they hold dear starts to crumble around them? Can they truly be free of a ha...

Month in Review: February 2013

monthinreview

It’s the end of the month, and time to put things into perspective, I guess. Well, there were tons of reviews on I Heart Reading in February, not so much other posts though. I’m hoping to get more variation into the posts.

Here’s a rundown of our reviews we had in February:

A Game of Cat and Mouse by Astrid Cielo
Shifty Business by Olivia Hardin
Dance of Shadows by Yelena Black
Ash by James Herbert
Adventures of a Ghost Hunter by Adam Nori
New Zealand with a Hobbit Botherer by Annette and John Gisby...

Book Review: Eighty-Eight Keys by Catherine Lavender

I’m having a hard time coming up with a proper rating for Eighty-Eight Keys. The book is a romantic murder-mystery with main character Leah stuck in the middle of something she barely understands. Her lover, Jason, was murdered. Now Leah is left to pick up the pieces. The police has no clue as to who’s done it, and the trail has reached a dead end. Occupied with hosting a charity gala for the foundation Bright Horizon, a foundation Jason helped established, she’s caught in the middle of schem...

Release Day Party The Promise

promisebanner

We’re happy to celebrate the release day party for “The Promise” today, a steamy paranormal romance novel by author Kim Carmichael.

Read an Excerpt!

He tilted his head. “You look older.”

She forced herself to blink and to remember her goal. “Then I assume I am at last old enough to be a fit for a demon.” She stepped forward, stopping less than a foot away from him. The back of her throat dried out, and she swallowed.

He put his hand to his chin, his gaze taking her in. “This old song and dance. W...

Book Review: Chasing The Witch (Boston Witches #2) by Jessica Gibson

I reviewed Mark of the Witch, the first book in the Boston Witches series last week. While I enjoyed Mark of the Witch, I must admit Chasing The Witch left me feeling much more impressed. The book has a solid storyline, intriguing characters who are well-developed, and an authentic voice. My only two concerns were that I felt transitions between one scene and the other could’ve been more fluent, and that the characters could’ve used a bit more depth. I’m still not that fond of Jilly. I can’t...
