Saving Molly
Call it a sixth sense, a premonition…hell it didn’t matter—James Noland just knew.
The trees were starting to change colors, the temperatures were cooling more each day, and the tell-tale sweet smell of snicker-doodles floating through the kitchen made for a perfect Saturday morning. James finished refilling his coffee mug, then leaned back against the granite counter top, smiling to himself as he watched his beautiful wife of twenty-one years. She had been college sweetheart and still remained to be the love of his life. Together they had built the perfect home on a large section of beautiful Pennsylvania countryside, and their pride and joy was doing homework in his bedroom upstairs…but James couldn’t shake the dread looming.
It was a gut instinct that had put a choke hold on his heart an hour ago as he had been walking out of his study. Something that didn’t happen often, but when it did, he sat on edge…waiting—knowing it was never wrong.
Not wanting to frighten her, he kept his worry to himself, but had stayed in the kitchen near his wife. Using the normalcy of her baking a large batch of cookies like she did most Saturday mornings to help to keep him calm.
Karen’s hands were covered in cookie dough, so James crossed their magazine worthy kitchen to the ringing telephone on the built-in desk. Seeing the name on the caller I.D. had his eyes darting to his wife’s, while sending a quick prayer to the man above.
Damn it.
It sickened him that he’d been right this time.
This was it. James could feel it in every fiber of his being. Sweat immediately beaded up on the back of his neck, and a wave of electricity skated over his skin making the hair on his arms stand on end. With his heart racing ninety-to-nothing, he blew out a breath and braced himself.
Foregoing the niceties, he put the phone to his ear. “How bad is it, George?”
“You and Karen need to get here and you need to do it as fast as you can.”
James recoiled liked he’d taken a sucker punch to the stomach. “Oh my God.” The desperate words rushed out of his mouth.
All time stood still. Using the desk to hold himself up, straightening once again, he glanced back over to his wife just in time watch the color drain from Karen’s face as she put the back of her delicate hand to her mouth.
They had known when the news came it was going to be like a double edged sword. Only God knew how deep that sword had cut—this time.
Yanking the dishtowel off the counter, Karen twisted in her hands, wiping off the dough and sugar as her chin trembled. With a grunt of frustration she flung it toward the sink. An outward sign of anger he’d never witnessed from his wife. That flash of temper from the gentlest soul he’d ever known…shouted her hurt so loud it was deafening.
His world, his rock, hurried across the stone tiled kitchen floor, and pushing the right side of the French doors open, she slipped out into the crisp fall air. Hearing the latch twist back into place as she closed the door to the patio behind her, James shut his eyes and willed himself to finish listening to the man on the other end of the phone. It was never good news anymore when George Kapp called, and with every phone call James watched his wife’s heart break a little more.
George and James had been good friends since their middle school years. They had grown up racing together until James’s parents just couldn’t afford it anymore. The two had stayed close in spite of their different paths and had weathered several of life’s storms together. However, the last two years had been a hell neither of them thought they’d make it through.
Even in the gray V-neck cashmere sweater he was wearing, James felt a chill run through him and his stomach churned. The fire rolled and made its way back up, a line of stabbing pain crossed his shoulder blades right before the acid started burning his throat.
Sure, the locations where different and the severity of the injuries George called to inform James and Karen of varied, but it was never the news they so desperately longed to hear.
Having spent years and thousands trying to have children, James and Karen knew intimately the pain of denial. This was so much worse. Knowing a child desperately needed help, knowing they had the means to offer her the world and more, left them both frustrated as hell and feeling completely helpless.
A sweet adolescent, with long blonde hair and big blue eyes, Molly was an innocent girl that James and Karen ached to have safe with them.
One person stood in their way.
Ray West was a burly man, and in reality, he was a complete monster that needed to be behind bars. That was if he was lucky. If James ever came face to face with the asshole, there was going to be hell to pay. Normally a very patient man, kind and generous to a fault, the fury that boiled in James’s blood at that very moment had him seeing red.
Thinking of the teenage girl in pain was the only reason he was able to keep his own temper in check. Knowing that Molly needed him was what kept the bastard that was her biological father alive. Otherwise, James was pretty damn sure he could sleep at night knowing he’d found the revenge Molly couldn’t carry out herself.
Gold, red and yellow painted the landscape behind his wife. The outdoor splendor was wasted on her at the moment as she stood in between two stone benches, her palms gripping the edge of the matching stone railing. Keeping a watchful eye on Karen as she stood outside on the terrace, James could see her shoulders heave through the tears he knew she wasn’t able to contain anymore.
One more minute on the phone and he could go to her. Scribbling down the logistics George was rattling off, he fought to hold it together.
“Orlando. Got it.”
“How soon do you think you can get here?”
Hearing the panic in his friend’s voice, James could tell time wasn’t on their side. “I’ll call and get the plane ordered right now.” Calculating in his head, he cringed. “Pennsylvania to Orlando? Hopefully less than a couple of hours.”
“I’m so sorry, James. I’ve been trying to keep an eye on things. I didn’t see this coming.”
“You’re her saving grace, George, don’t go there. It’s over this time.”
“God, I hope you’re right. You have to prepare Karen for when you see her. It’s not good, James. She’s in bad, bad shape.”
As long as James and George had been friends, there had never been a dramatic side to the man. George laid it out like it was, and didn’t sugar coat anything, never making things sound better or worse than they actually were. His description sent James reeling.
He swallowed hard and even though the tears were stinging in his eyes, he blew out a shaky breath and held them back. Karen could not see him break down. For all the years he had known her, she’d been as strong as they came. For the last two years though, it was as if she felt every pain that innocent child endured.
“Don’t leave her side, George.”
“Eileen is here now, we aren’t going anywhere. The momma bear has roared to life and even though ICU nurses are diligent, she’s got them paying extra-special attention. You know my wife.”
He had no heart to smile at the truth George had stated. “Yeah…I do. We’re on the way, we’ll be there as soon as possible.”
James had been able to hear the steady beeping of monitors in the background during their entire call, suddenly one stayed continuous.
“Shit. Damn it. Hurry James!”
The line went dead. Their worst nightmare was coming true.
Before he made two steps toward Karen, she came flying into the kitchen. Her shaking hands fumbled as she tried twice to shut the oven off, then she went running up the back staircase off the kitchen.
He was right behind her. Entering their bedroom he found her in their walk-in closet, a small open suitcase lying open on the floor. Mindlessly ripping items off hangers, tossing them over her shoulder with no regard as to what they were, or if they even landed in the bag at all. Taking her in his arms he tried to turn her to face him.
Karen pushed away. “No James. We have to hurry. We need to get out of here. Stop.”
She continued to struggle with him as the fight or flight running through her had launched into overdrive.
“Karen. Sweetheart. Stop. Just leave the bag. We don’t need anything right now. We’ll just go. Please baby, it’s okay. Don’t worry. It’ll all be okay.”
As the fight in her wore off, her knees gave and she collapsed against him, burying her face as close to his neck as she could. Probably one of the few men in the world that could honestly say he had never lied to his wife—ever, James hoped to hell that it stayed that way. That young girl lying in a Florida hospital had to be all right, he had promised his wife she would be.
A fourteen-year-old girl…that they’d never even met, and yet, James knew their world be destroyed if she didn’t make it.
Thank you for your continued support and friendships!

Countdown to Jesse - Another surprise awaits!
Well, today marks the one-month countdown until the release of book #2 in the Racing to Love series- Jesse's Soul. In addition to the free novella - Brody's Love - RTL Gift Novella with the permission of SSP, I am going to do another little something extra for you!
Book #1, Carter's Treasure starts with Molly's nightmare, and through the book readers get a glimpse into her past. There is a backstory to all of that, and it's five chapters, titled Saving Molly. So, here's my next surprise for you!!!!
You'll get to see how it all started, why James and Karen are so protective and why Brody is so territorial. Starting tomorrow - Tues Dec 4th, I will post one chapter every Tuesday. The last one will be New Year's Day, right before Jesse's Soul's release on Jan 3rd!
You'll get a look at the family dynamic and what becomes an underlying message through the series, and that is very important, especially in book #3, Eli's Honor.
I will warn you now though : ) Normally, I write with my own personality blatantly woven in, through the smartass comebacks, the sexual innuendos and the (yes, I know I'm bad) potty mouth. However, Saving Molly, needs to come with a tissue warning. I'm sorry guys, but it's true. That is why we are releasing this as an unedited (at least professionally lol) string of posts on my blog. We were afraid that it was enough different from my regular style it would possibly confuse readers that happened to read, Saving Molly, before any of my other work.
Can you imagine reading something sweet, but dramatic and then picking up the next book and hitting a jackpot of sass, humor and sex? Exactly! Talk about an 'oh holy hell' moment! So, I hope you all like this, it was the original prologue. Please pass this on to your fellow friends, readers and blog followers if you wouldn't mind please, I greatly appreciate it!
See you all back tomorrow!!!

Six Sentence Sunday 12-2-12
Six Sentence Sunday 12-2-12
OMG.. Can you believe it's December already!!!! Seriously! Well, I mentioned I was going to do a couple of more SSS weeks with Brody, then I'm going to jump back to Jesse's Soul for a couple of weeks. I think I've decided for the last SSS (very sad, I've loved this!) I'm going to give you one little bite of Eli's Honor (book 3, releasing 7/13).
Writing on book #4 Alex's Destiny is going great, it's all coming together! For those of you that know me, you'll remember that I do not outline, I do not plot. I have a few idea jumbled up and I just start typing...... I'm not normal, but I've been telling you that for ages!
So, back to Brody..... This is the next six sentences after last weeks's post. I hope you enjoy!
Suddenly the brown eyes looking up at him went wide, but to her credit, she held perfectly still as his finger grazed the scrap of lace between her legs. Oh my God. “You’re wet,” he said, his voice quiet in the cold night. Erin blinked once and the façade immediately dropped. Her innocence fell back over her. In the sweetest voice he’d ever heard, she whispered back, “For you, Brody…always.”
What do you think???? :D Well, if you want to read more... remember, this is my FREE gift novella, written as my thanks to all of you for your continued support!
Here's the link to Smashwords so you can download it! Brody's Love - Gift Novella in RTL Series
Okay....I've never done this before, but here it goes. As you know, a lot of weekends we spend trackside. Yes, my series is set with a motocross setting, but it's something I truly love. And live! So, just for grins, I'm attaching a pic of our lil racer, from this last outdoor season. Arenacross has started so we're hopping still, add in two girls going in opposite directions and you have a mother ready for a huge bottle of wine!!! LOL So here's my 548! Have a great weekend and hugs to you all...

In all the years they had been together, he’d never done something like this. If he were to lay his hand across her chest, he knew it would be pounding. Maybe in part from fear, but more because of need. It was in her eyes, the quickening of her breath, the way she pushed hard swallows down her throat. Reaching the bare skin under her dress, he traced circles on the skin of her hip, waiting her out, seeing who would hold out the longest, wondering how far she would let him push. The circles he was making with his finger inched along, his eyes watching hers as he went.

MY Special Gift - it's here!!!!
My FREE gift to you, as a way to say thank you for your continued support!
I have teased long enough. It's here! Staying in the Racing to Love series, I've written a quick story about Molly's one and only brother - Brody!
Yes, he's a little over-protective, and yeah, he's a tag frustrating at times, but in all honesty...he's a good guy! Now you get to 'meet' him...before all hell broke loose!
We had originally planned to put it up on Amazon along with Carter's Treasure, however, they wouldn't let my publisher upload it for free. They wanted to charge a minimum of .99. Well, from the beginning, this has been something I wanted to do for FREE, something to just say thank you and I appreciate your support. My way of showing readers and friends how awesome you have been because without you, this dream is over. Sorry...I could get sappy here....
Anyway, Sapphire Star Publishing found another avenue to make this happen. The link is for Smashwords. They have all available methods for download, basically the same as Amazon on a smaller scale and they allowed me to gift it for free. Thank you to Amy & Katie for pursuing this for me!
So without further ado... And don't forget... Santa may be coming soon, but January 3, 2013--Jesse is coming to town!
Hugs to you all and have a great Thanksgiving!

Six Sentence Sunday 11-18-12 --- Special Treat ---
I'm going to jump around a little bit here. I announced a couple of weeks ago that I had a surprise treat for all of you. With book #2 in the Racing to Love series - Jesse's Soul just around the corner, (1/3/13--YAY!) I decided as a way to thank all of my readers I'd do something special. A little treat or gift of sorts. In Carter's Treasure, you met Molly's brother, Brody.
For certain reasons, he was super, crazy over-protective of his sister. But that's not the whole of Brody. He's actually a really great guy, and I've written a short novella - Brody's Love. It is going to go up on Amazon this coming Tuesday (tentatively) - FOR FREE! - My way of being Thankful (For US readers - this coming Thursday is Thanksgiving) I'm very thankful for the support and loyal friends and readers I've gained along my journey. This is just a little something for you all.
So for my SSS this week, with Brody's Love (A Racing to Love novella) pending, I'm going to give you a snippet! Have a great Sunday and please visit my fellow participating authors at http://www.sixsunday.com/
Hugs!!!!

Priding himself on his iron-tight control, it was almost more than he could handle, seeing the warm brown eyes staring at him full of longing and need. Quiet wasn’t Erin’s strong suit, but there she stood, waiting, silently, but when her lips parted…his jeans instantly constricted him.
“Sugar, you’ve gotta quit looking at me like that.”
The way she blinked innocently in response upped his pain level several notches. He was going to be damned lucky to get them both home alive without wrecking on the way. Fifteen minutes was a long time when one was in agony or horny—or in his case, both.

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. Psalm 56
Love is a many-splendored thing and no one who knows this better than Tula “Sugar” DuBois. As the New Year breaks over her lodge on the frozen shores of Lake Superior, Sugar is wrapped in the arms of the man she loves, dancing in the New Year with her brother and his new wife. Enter the mysterious Lillie who comes to the lodge for Christmas break seeking safe haven. No one knows her secrets and she’s determined to keep it that way. Having had secrets to keep Sugar is compelled to love and protect Lillie, determined to give her the strength to reveal what she’s hiding before it’s too late. When Lillie comes face-to-face with her past will she let revenge steal her future? Sugar calls upon all who love Lillie to dance a dangerous samba to save the young girl before she is delivered to the Father by evil... As the tulips sprout through the snow covered ground there is new love, new hope and new life, and together they will share Sugar’s Night...

Cocktales, Book Three
Sophia Kennedy is determined to chase her own success, rather than ride her father’s coattails. She’s devoted herself to Books and Brew, the business she owns with her three best friends. She doesn’t feel the need to explain herself to anyone, least of all the free-aid lawyer who’s determined to judge her as a society princess. She’d ignore him altogether…if it were up to her mind. But nooooo. Her body just has to have its say—and it’s using words like “gorgeous”, “hot” and “sexy”. Soon, annoyance turns to attraction, verbal sparring to physical satisfaction as the couple is drawn together by a common cause.
Marc Garrett has no time for a relationship. And he certainly doesn’t want a rich society fixture, though the damning evidence below his belt suggests otherwise. The more he comes to know his hardworking princess, the more he wants her, again and again. Marc’s falling hard, but after holding Sophie’s wealth against her, how will she react when she learns of his own rather prosperous roots?

“Charlotte?” Sophie was annoyed to find the coat-check room unattended. She’d been an idiot to trust Charlotte to keep an eye on it. The woman was too flighty to take the task seriously. She was a regular at the bookstore and when Sophie had foolishly mentioned her problem finding volunteers to help work the event, Charlotte had stepped forward. Sophie had accepted the offer, ignoring the voice telling her Charlotte only wanted to help so she could ogle the cream of society’s crop in a glitzy setting. Now she was staring at an unprotected room full of expensive shawls and jackets.“Shit,” she muttered. “Can anyone say liability?” She stepped behind the check-in counter and into the room, intent on finding the extra flyers. Then she’d track down her “volunteer” and read her the riot act for leaving her post unattended.Spotting the box in a corner, she crossed the small space and bent to retrieve it.A wolf whistle sounded from the doorway.Sophie rose quickly but the damage was done. Clearly she’d given someone an eyeful of her ass wrapped in its tight skirt.Marc leaned against the doorframe, looking far too pleased with the view she’d offered.“Wow. Sexist much?”He gave her a seductive grin. She wished her body would stop responding to him so forcefully. Her stomach clenched, her pussy dampened and she was grateful for the box in her hands or Marc would see them trembling. He was unapologetic. “When I see something beautiful, I feel the need to appreciate it.”“And being the classy guy you are, you thought you’d whistle at me like a construction worker.”“I thought you might prefer that response over the first idea that popped into my head.”“Which was?”“Stroking my hands over that gorgeous ass you just displayed for me.”The battle between Sophie’s head and body flared. Her ass cheeks clenched, longing for that caress. Her less visceral side offered a reply. “Then you made the right call because I would have kneed you in the balls. Hard.”He nodded. “That’s what I thought. Hence my whistle from all the way over here.”His tone was light and friendly, making it impossible to take offense at his comments. The closet wasn’t that large but his assessment was correct. Several feet protected his balls from her knee.Sophie subtly pressed her legs together and tried to force air into her lungs. Apparently the space between them wasn’t that safe after all. She flushed as her body heated at their proximity—and semi-privacy.The observant man’s dark-blue eyes narrowed. He must be hell on juries. He notices far too much.He stepped into the room. She tried to hide her shock when he closed the closet door behind him. The darkness was cut by a mellow glow provided by the low-watt fixture hanging in the center of the ceiling, and instantly she was reminded of nights spent beside a dying fire in her family’s large living room. She was a sucker for a fireplace.Marc’s deep voice cut through the silence. “Maybe I was wrong.”Her eyes tried to adjust to the dim lighting as he continued to move closer. “About what?” Her throat tightened, making her words sound thick and far too loud in the small room.Marc didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he took the box of flyers out of her hands, setting it on the floor. “You know I’m going to start coming by the bar, right? I feel the need to become a regular.”“Why? You get some sick pleasure out of annoying me?”He shook his head, his voice laced with humor. “No. That’s just a bonus.”The answer was completely unsatisfactory, even though Sophie liked the idea of him stopping by. Despite her better judgment, she wanted to see him more too. “Then why?” she repeated.“Because I’ll want to do this again.”He leaned forward and kissed her.
