'Dexter: Resurrection' Season 2 May Happen, But 'Original Sin' Was Canceled

Fans of Dexter Morgan, the serial killer with a code, have had a lot to choose from lately.

First, the show delved into Dexter's formative years in Dexter: Original Sin. Then, fans were treated to the news that Dexter was still alive, despite being shot by his son, Harrison, at the end of Dexter: New Blood. The latest installment in the franchise, Dexter: Resurrection, features Dexter (Michael C. Hall) tracking his son down in New York while attending a serial killer meet-up arranged by a mysterious billionaire.

Resurrection has strong ratings with both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, scoring a whopping 94 percent with critics. That has a lot of fans pining for a second season. Dexter fans received both bad and potentially good news on Aug. 22.

According to Variety, Paramount is "imminently planning to open a writers room for a potential Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection."

Variety noted that this doesn't mean that renewal is guaranteed, but added that the show has drawn "strong viewership and reviews," bringing in 4.4 million "multiplatform viewers" over seven days for its premiere.

The series has satisfied fans by reuniting Dexter and his old friend Angel Batista, albeit through a cat-and-mouse game, as Batista (David Zayas) travels to New York to investigate his suspicions that Dexter might be the Bay Harbor Butcher. The first season of the series is also developing the relationship between Dexter and Harrison, who finds himself at the center of his own murder investigation.

What is a writers' room? It's a concept where writers for a television show gather in a room to brainstorm potential storylines. Thus, it makes sense that Paramount wouldn't open one if a second season wasn't a real possibility.

Will There Be a Second Season of 'Dexter: Original Sin'?

Fans who preferred learning about a younger Dexter, though, are not in luck.

No, there will not be a second season of Dexter: Original Sin, according to Variety. Rather, it appears the studio is choosing to focus on building out Resurrection.

Variety had previously reported that the prequel series was renewed, but now says no production dates have been scheduled, and it was canceled.

Exercise Scientist Explains Size vs Strength Training

One of the longest-running debates in the gym is whether training for size is really different from training for strength. People argue about everything from rep ranges to exercise selection to how much weight you should lift. Sure, veteran lifters know there’s overlap (you can’t build size without strength and vice versa), but how you approach your training still depends on what you’re trying to achieve.

The key differences often come down to how your body responds and recovers. Training for strength is about moving heavier weights and building neural efficiency, while training for size focuses on muscle fatigue, pump, and volume. Knowing which approach to emphasize can help you structure your workouts smarter and see faster results.

In a recent video, Mike Israetel, Ph.D., exercise scientist and co-founder of RP Strength, explains the key differences between training for size and strength and how you can use that knowledge to get better results.

3 Major Differences Between Training for Size and StrengthExercise Selection

One of the biggest differences between training for strength and hypertrophy is exercise selection. For hypertrophy, you choose movements that isolate the muscle you want to grow—like a dumbbell bicep curl. Strength training, on the other hand, focuses on compound lifts that engage multiple muscle groups, such as the bench press. Israetel breaks it down using the glutes as an example:

"When we're training our glutes for hypertrophy, we ask the question of which exercise really targets the glutes," Israetel says. We don't really care about how much weight is on the bar or what exercise is used in competition because there is no competition hypertrophy training. So, a front foot elevated Smith machine lunge is an amazing glute exercise. But in powerlifting, for example, and training for strength, we want to train for specific movements because that's how we test them. So deadlifts are an excellent movement that also stimulates plenty of glute hypertrophy."

Rep Ranges

The second major difference is the repetition range. If your main goal is to get stronger, Israetel suggests sticking to a range of roughly three to six reps. If you want the sweet spot between building both size and strength, sets of five to 10 work best.

"If you're a powerlifter and you need bigger legs because you want to squat more, building your big legs with sets of five to 10 is going to convert to bigger numbers on your squat than building your bigger legs with sets of 10 to 15 reps, for example," Israetel says.

If your main goal is muscle growth, the rep range broadens to five to 30 reps per set, as long as you’re working close to failure. The exact number of reps depends on your goals and circumstances, but hypertrophy-focused sets are generally higher than strength-focused sets.

Volumes

If you're working through your next program, you might wonder—how much do I need to train each muscle group per week to see results? Well, according to Israel, that will once again depend on your goals. If you want to gain strength, you should aim for around five to 15 sets per muscle group and/or movement per week. If your goal is muscle hypertrophy, you should look to hit that muscle group or exercise with 10 to 30 (or better yet, 20 to 30) sets per week.

"If your chest just isn't growing and you've been doing sets of eight per week, it's a great way to get your chest strong for sure," he says. "But to get to the maximum size, you're going to want to flirt over 10 and then considerably over 10, especially if you ease in."

How to Raise Dopamine Without Harming Your Brain

In the health world, there’s a ton of buzz around dopamine—how to spike it, protect it, and avoid tanking your levels. But what exactly is dopamine? Simply put, it’s a chemical messenger, or neurotransmitter, in your brain that plays a huge role in pleasure, motivation, and reward. It’s the thing that drives us to chase the things that feel good, like crushing a workout or acing an exam, and reinforces those behaviors when we repeat them.

Think of dopamine as your brain’s motivational fuel: it pushes you to take action and then rewards you when you get the job done. The catch? Too much of it can backfire (because even too much of a good thing isn’t good).

In a recent video on ⁠Huberman Lab Essentials⁠, Stanford neuroscientist Andrew Huberman, Ph.D., revealed the exact ways he ensures he can peak his dopamine without disrupting his baseline.

"The key lies in intermittent release of dopamine," he says. "The real key is to not expect or chase high levels of dopamine release every time we engage in these activities."

An intermittent reward schedule is a concept from both psychology and behavioral science where a reward is given to a subject only occasionally after a certain behavior, not every time. This type of unpredictable pattern actually makes seeking out the reward more enticing because you'll never know when it will come.

"Intermittent reward schedules are the central schedule by which casinos keep you gambling," Huberman says. "The central schedule by which elusive partners or potential partners keep you texting and pursuing on either side of the relationship. Intermittent schedules are the way that the internet and social media, and all highly engaging activities keep you motivated and pursuing."

Overstimulation, which can lower your baseline dopamine, happens when we have too much of a good thing. Constantly chasing quick hits of pleasure, like scrolling through social media or snacking on a bag of chips, without tying them to long-term goals, can erode your dopamine levels. A better approach is to work toward goals in small increments, celebrating each win, rather than constantly seeking instant gratification.

All 3 of The Beatles 'Anthology 4' Release Dates, Explained

Fifty-five years after their breakup, and several decades after the deaths of John Lennon and George Harrison, The Beatles are still releasing new music and creating new twists in their ever-expanding mythology. The biggest and most popular rock band in the world tends to assert a kind of definitive retrospective every few years, but in 2025, The Beatles are rebooting and expanding a previous multimedia project that was previously released back in 1995.

As detailed by Variety, The Beatles brand is set to release an expansion of The Beatles Anthology project from 1995. Back then, Anthology consisted of three double-albums, a massive coffee table book, and an eight-part documentary. Now, there will be a fourth album — Anthology 4 — a ninth episode of the documentary, and a newly revised book. Here's what to know about each separate release date for the new Beatles Anthology 2025.

October 14, 2025: New Beatles Anthology Book

The first of the new BeatlesAnthology releases will be the newly revised book, which is billed as the band's "autobiography." The book retails for roughly $50.00, depending on where you get it.

November 21, 2025: Beatles Anthology Music Releases

The main event of The Beatles Anthology 2025 is the release of the music collections. This will consist of reissues of the first three Beatles: Anthologies, which, in 1995, were each comprised of two CDs. The entire purpose of the Anthology albums was to present alternative takes, outtakes, and previously unreleased music. For this reason, none of the Anthology albums contain the "regular" Beatles recordings available on other albums or compilations.

Before the new release, there were only three Anthology collections, but now, there will be a fourth one. What's on it? According to Variety:"13 previously unreleased demos and session recordings, alongside other outtakes that already appeared on the band’s deluxe editions in recent years."

This means that if you've been following the "Super Deluxe" reissues of various Beatles albums over the past few years, some of those bonus tracks will be on the new Anthology 4, in addition to 13 previously unheard songs. On top of that, the new Anthology 4will contain remixed versions of "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love."

These two songs were created for the previous Anthology albums back in 1995, and were each created from lost recordings from John Lennon, and, at the time, new recordings from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. This kind of thing happened again, in 2023, when McCartney and Starr collobrated to create "Now and Then," another contemporary Beatles song which used a Lennon vocal track, with new contributions from the surviving members of the band.

November 26, 2025: Remastered Beatles Anthology Series Begins Streaming on Disney+

The final part of the this project is the re-release of the documentary series, The Beatles Anthology. The first three episodes of this series will start streaming on November 26, with subsequent episodes dropping weekly. The ninth and final episode of the series will be entirely new.

Italian Tour Guide Dies at Colosseum After Heat Warning

Visiting the Colosseum and Roman Forum in the heat of the summer is grueling at best under the blazing summer sun with the lack of shade, absence of a breeze, and limited access to water.

During a trip to Rome last month, I experienced those conditions firsthand when my wife and I took a midday tour of the site amid a significant heatwave. After both struggling to complete the tour with the heat nearly causing my wife to pass out, it's tragic but not wholly surprising to hear that similar conditions claimed someone's life this week.

At around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, 56-year-old Giovanna Maria Giammarino collapsed in the ancient amphitheatre. Despite the efforts of tourists and the emergency services on site, she could not be revived and passed away at the scene as a result of an apparent heart attack.

Her death came after some serious warnings about the conditions European tour guides faced during the summer, and has amplified calls for change from Italy's tour guides.

The Death Came After a Major Warning

Just weeks before Giammarino's death, the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations issued a warning about heatwaves sweeping across Europe and the reality that tour guides would have to handle those conditions.

"As heatwaves across Europe intensify, our responsibility as tourist guides grows – not just toward our guests, but also toward ourselves. Extreme heat is no longer an exception; it is a new reality that demands attention, adaptation, and solidarity within our profession," the group wrote in a statement earlier this summer.

"In these challenging conditions, the role of licensed and well-trained guides, especially those connected through professional associations, becomes even more vital. Guides who are part of such networks have access to up-to-date safety alerts, peer support, legal advice, and practical resources to help them adapt quickly and responsibly."

The notice also warned that sometimes, canceling a tour as a result of the heat is the correct choice.

"There may be moments when, for safety reasons, a tour must be postponed or cancelled entirely. This is not a failure – it is a professional judgement. If possible, work with your network to find a substitute guide who may be less affected by the heat or better suited to continue the tour under the conditions," the statement read.

"Remember: heat affects people differently. Older guides, or those with health conditions, must be especially cautious. Caring for yourself is not selfish – it is responsible leadership."

Italy's Tour Guides Call For Change

Following the news of Giammarino's death, Italy’s Certified Tour Guide Association (AGTA) issued a statement calling on authorities to extend the Colosseum’s opening hours so that tours could take place in the cool of the early morning or later in the evening.

“First of all, the opening hours of the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum [which includes the Colosseum, the Forum and the Palatine Hill] need to change during summer,” AGTA said in a statement posted on social media.

“It’s useless to talk about a ‘heat emergency’ every year as if this were something new: climate change is a fact and for some years, working at the Roman Forum from 10:00 to 4:30pm has been unbearable.”

The group suggested that during the summer months, the area should be open from 7 a.m. to 8:15 p.m., allowing more time for visits and tours in the morning and evening.

“For three years, we’ve been asking for the opening of the whole park to be brought forward to 7am and for closing to be postponed by an hour,” AGTA said in a statement. “These changes would benefit the public health of everyone: visitors, guides and other workers.”

The association said economic uncertainty and a lack of protection has resulted in tour guides pushing themselves beyond their physical limits to be able to support their families.

“[On Tuesday] a guide left for ever, but in recent years too many have left this activity for other ‘safer’ and less demanding jobs,” the statement added. “We need more protection.”

"I bought an Aston Martin DB9 as my first car," Sheeran, 34, told Complex when asked about his "worst purchase ever."

"It was a lovely car," the "Perfect" singer explained. "I was driving back from the studio. And there's a country lane to get to my house. And I was driving down it, and there was this big puddle, and I was like, 'I'll just drive slowly through this puddle.'"

Sheeran -- who was born in Halifax, United Kingdom -- added, " I start driving slowly, and then it's going like this," showing his hand on a decline. After he saw the water rising to the height of his windows, Sheeran decided to ditch the six-figure luxury vehicle.

"Suddenly it just stops," he said of the car's engine. When the car wouldn't restart, the "Shape of You" artist walked a mile back to his house. "Someone picked it up and I haven't seen it since. I just left it there."

"That is why it's the worst purchase I ever made."

While Sheeran didn't specify the year or specs of his vehicle, the British carmaker manufactured the two-door grand tourer car between 2004 and 2016. Throughout the 12 years of production, Aston Martin only manufactured around 16,500 DB9s before discontinuing the model and replacing it with the DB11.
