Old Video of Pope Leo XIV at World Series Game Goes Viral
Pope Leo XIV is a Chicago native, and he's pretty clearly a baseball fan.
On Thursday, Cardinal Robert Prevost, 69, was voted in as the newest leader of the Roman Catholic church. Prevost is the first American-born pontiff, and immediately after news broke of his election, the debate about his baseball fanhood began.
As a Windy City native, it was first speculated that Pope Leo was a Chicago Cubs fan. However, his brother John quickly confirmed that in fact, his brother roots for the Pale Hose.
"Whoever said Cubs on the radio got it wrong. It's Sox," Prevost told NBC News.
On Thursday night, a photo of Pope Leo rooting on the White Sox during Game 1 of the 2005 World Series made the rounds. Now, this evening, the X/Twitter account @Videoson35th uncovered footage of the future pope in the crowd at Rate Field that night on the FOX broadcast.

FOX caught a glimpse of His Holiness during Houston Astros shortstop Adam Everett's at-bat with two outs in the top of the ninth inning and the White Sox leading 5-3.
Chicago closer Bobby Jenks eventually struck Everett out to preserve the W, and pave the way for the White Sox to sweep Houston and win the franchise's first title in 88 years.
"Family always knows best, and it sounds like Pope Leo XIV’s lifelong fandom falls a little closer to 35th and Shields," the White Sox said in a statement Thursday. "Some things are bigger than baseball, but in this case, we’re glad to have a White Sox fan represented at the Vatican. A pinstripe White Sox jersey with his name on it and a hat is already on the way to Rome, and of course, the Pontiff always is welcome at his ballpark."
After posting the worst season in modern MLB history with a 41-121 record in 2024, the White Sox are off to a 10-28 start this year.
Things are looking bleak on the South Side, but, hey, at least the pope has their back.

Travis Kelce's Ex-Girlfriend Speaks Out About Attention
Before Kansas City Chiefs superstar boyfriend Travis Kelce began dating pop sensation Taylor Swift, he was with media personality Kayla Nicole. But it sounds like she is tired of being known as Kelce's ex-girlfriend.
During an appearance on the Second Wind podcast this week, Nicole opened up a little bit about all the conversation about her previous relationship with Kelce.
“People will always say, ‘Get over it,’ which is so interesting. And to them I'd say, ‘You too,’” she said.
Kelce and Nicole dated on and off for about five years before ultimately breaking up in 2022. Since Kelce began dating Swift, Nicole has received a lot more attention from fans and media, facing newfound scrutiny.
Nicole took advantage of this added attention and helped grow her career, which she understands upset some people.
"Life handed me lemons and I made a lemon martini out of it and that upsets people,” she continued. "My authenticity, my transparency, my story—sharing my story—that really is my superpower.”
That doesn't mean that it's always been easy.
Nicole admitted that given that she is "new to the landscape of being a public figure," she "could have used a little PR training and learning how to navigate the space with the media."
"I was going into interviews thinking a little naively like, 'Oh, they just want to hear my story,'" she explained. "You sit down and you do an hour-long interview with someone and the headline is maybe a one sentence that you said of, 'Yeah, I was heartbroken and devastated because I went through a breakup and that's the headline.'"
Nicole went on to say that she hopes one day that she has an identity beyond being Kelce's ex-girlfriend.
"It's like, 'Damn, girl, did you listen to anything?' " She continued. "I am human and I take it with a grain of salt now. One day they're going to have to stop calling me someone’s ex."

Pope Leo XIV Attended the World Series in 2005
On Thursday afternoon, Chicago native Robert Prevost was elected as the next Pope, becoming the first Pope from the United States as he takes on the name Pope Leo XIV. Shortly after his election, the world learned of his Chicago White Sox fandom. And based on a photo that is now going viral, it looks like he is a pretty big fan.
Shortly after Leo XIV's election, there was some debate about his Major League Baseball fan affiliation as some claimed that the Chicago-native and Villanova grad was a fan of the Chicago Cubs. However, his brother quickly set the record straight and confirmed that he was actually a White Sox fan.
"Whoever said Cubs on the radio got it wrong. It's Sox," his brother, John Prevost, told NBC Chicago.
This prompted a statement from the White Sox on the matter as the team shared that it is already sending him a custom jersey to the Vatican and made it clear that he is "always welcome at his ballpark."
"Family always knows best, and it sounds like Pope Leo XIV’s lifelong fandom falls a little closer to 35th and Shields," the team said in a statement. "Some things are bigger than baseball, but in this case, we’re glad to have a White Sox fan represented at the Vatican. A pinstripe White Sox jersey with his name on it and a hat is already on the way to Rome, and of course, the Pontiff always is welcome at his ballpark."
Based on a photo that is now going viral on social media, it looks like Leo XIV is no stranger to "his ballpark."

The photo quickly turned heads on social media as fans offered their reactions.
"The new pope was at the Cell to see the Sox win a ring. This is a good omen," one fan wrote in a post on X.
"Peak American Culture!" someone else added.
"He's one of us," another user commented.
"50% chance I was at the same World Series game as the Pope…" someone else said.
"This is wild," another user added.
Clearly, Pope Leo XIV is a loyal fan.
New Pope Leo XIV Roots for the White Sox, not the Cubs
On Thursday afternoon, Chicago native Robert Prevost was elected as the next Pope, taking on the title of Pope Leo XIV and becoming the first Pope from the United States. Now, after some debate, it sounds like we have confirmation of the new Pope's favorite sports team.
In the hours after the announcement of Pope Leo XIV's election, there was a lot of speculation in the media that the Chicago-native and Villanova grad was a fan of the Chicago Cubs. However, it sounds like his Major League Baseball loyalties actually lie with the team on the south side of the city.
During an interview with NBC Chicago's Christian Farr, Pope Leo XIV's brother, John Prevost, set the record straight as he refuted any previous reports that his brother rooted for the Cubs.
"Whoever said Cubs on the radio got it wrong. It's Sox," Prevost told NBC Chicago.
NBC News was also able to confirm from a Vatican spokesperson that the Pope roots for the White Sox.
Needless to say, it sounds like the White Sox were delighted to hear this as they reacted to the news with a statement.
This comes after the Cubs issued a statement on social media claiming that the new Pope was a Cubs fan. The club even invited him to Wrigley Field to sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame.
Congratulations to Pope Leo XIV! pic.twitter.com/s02yDDegQd
— Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) May 8, 2025
“Not only would we welcome Pope Leo XIV to Wrigley Field, he could sing 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' or, since three of his predecessors visited Yankee Stadium, including Pope Paul VI who delivered the 1965 'Sermon on the Mound,' we would invite the Pontiff to do the same at the Friendly Confines," Chairman Tom Ricketts said in a statement.
Clearly, the earlier statements were incorrect.
Tom Brady Has Been Cleared in Most FTX-Related Charges
Tom Brady was at the center of some serious litigation for his role in promoting the FTX crypto-trading platform, which infamously collapsed back in 2022, landing CEO and founder Sam Bankman-Fried in prison for fraud. But it sounds like Brady will avoid any legal repercussions.
Though Brady helped promote the crypto-trading platform as a paid spokesperson, a Florida federal judge has dismissed most of the claims against Brady and the other high-profile celebrities and YouTubers who promoted FTX.
According to CNBC, U.S. District Judge K. Michael Moore determined that the plaintiffs “fail to adequately plead causation” and “fail to plausibly allege Defendants’ knowledge of FTX’s fraud.”
While the judge conceded that Brady and the other celebrities might have been “uninformed, negligent, or even reckless,” the plaintiffs did not show they “had any knowledge of FTX’s fraud” or “had the requisite intent to deceive or defraud investors.”
The judge also cleared Brady and the defendants of related civil conspiracy claims, writing that “defendants cannot be found liable for civil conspiracy for merely receiving payments and other monetary benefits in exchange for their promotional content.”
In addition to clearing Brady, the Moore dismissed nearly all of the claims against the “Celebrity Defendants,” which included Brady's ex-wife Gisele Bündchen as well as Kevin O’Leary, Stephen Curry, Shohei Ohtani, Larry David, the Golden State Warriors, Udonis Haslem, David Ortiz, and Naomi Osaka.
Stunt Performer Doesn't Hold Back on Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'
Filmmaker Christopher Nolan is pulling out all the stops for his next project, The Odyssey, which is set for release July 2026. The action-fantasy film features an A-list cast including Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and others.
The film is an ambitious adaptation of Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey. The classic story of Greek mythology follows a man named Odysseus and his 10-year journey home from the Trojan War.
Nolan, best known for critically acclaimed films such as Interstellar (2014), Inception (2010), and the Dark Knight trilogy, has never before directed a film categorized as fantasy.
Known for limiting his use of CGI, Nolan is aiming to capture the upcoming epic with more practical effects. A creative choice that demands on-location filming in places that may not be the easiest to access or work in.
Stunt performer James Newman, responsible for training both Damon and Holland for the film, gave insight into Nolan's commitment, and the lengths he was willing to go.
In a now-deleted episode of the Action for Everyone podcast, he shared, "They found locations and Nolan would go like, 'Okay, this cave, has anyone ever filmed here before?' And the local guy is like 'No'. (Nolan) is like 'Okay, great we're going to film here.' This like untouched place. He wants to be the first person there to do it, he wants to feel like no one ever touched ground here ..."
Describing the physical demands of the shoot, he adds, "And every location is a hike. There's a castle, I think it's Odysseus's home, but it's up on a hill and it's like a two kilometer hike to get up there."
Nolan has earned two Academy Awards over the years, both for his latest film, Oppenheimer (2023), earning seven, including best director.

Though he has not said anything publicly about the new movie, he did share some of his philosophy in a 2023 interview with Empire,"You're trying to add something to the body of work of movies, generally."
Anticipation builds for the film's release, as fans eagerly await Nolan's signature take on the Greek classic.
Co-Star Mourns as Nathaniel Pelletier Dies 'Suddenly'
Actor Nathaniel "Nate" Pelletier, who recently played the recurring role of a taxi driver on the Hallmark Channel series When Calls The Heart, passed away suddenly at the age of just 53 years old, and one of his co-stars took to social media to grieve the loss of his beloved friend and colleague.
According to an online obituary, Pelletier passed away "suddenly" while alone at his home in Langley, B.C., Canada.
"He was only with us 53 short years but he touched many lives with his generosity and extraordinary work ethic," the obituary reads. "He was always there to lend a helping hand when needed and most times, before it was asked of him. He was charismatic and loved to meet new people, greeting them with his big smile and a warm hearty hand shake."
"Nathaniel's greatest love was his daughter Myhrsades (Murray) Jones of whom he was so proud," the obituary continued. "He loved to gift her with concert tickets to experience her favourite band or book travel tickets somewhere special. He was very proud of his world traveller."
Following his passing, his co-star Martin Cummins, who plays Henry Gowen on When Calls the Heart, shared a touching tribute on social media where he detailed his close friendship with Pelletier.

"I just came back from a ride on the bike Gord and Nate put together for the girls and I," Cummins wrote in the caption of a post on Instagram. "I’m taking shade in Mexico under the awning Nate helped me figure out in the woods near the old cabin. I have spent more hours at work sitting in the blue room, in silence or in conversation with Gord and Nate than I have standing on tape with the camera rolling.
"Gord has always felt like a father figure to me, and Nate and I were his boys running around the town, hanging out in the woods and talking [expletive]. Life is constantly changing. Things are never the same. The Valley will not be the same without Nathaniel Pelletier. He was a gentle soul and it was my honor to call him friend."
Pelletier is survived by his daughter, Myhrsades, who was described in his obituary as his "greatest love."
Pop-Tarts Announces New Ice Cream Sandwiches
Pop-Tarts is no stranger to reinventing itself, but its latest move might just be its coolest yet—literally. The iconic toaster pastry brand is heading into the freezer aisle with an all-new lineup of ice cream sandwiches and pints, just in time for summer.
Announced by parent company Kellanova on May 8, the new frozen treats promise to blend “indulgent ice cream with flavor swirls and pastry-style pieces.” Translation: everything you love about Pop-Tarts, but now in frozen form.
The ice cream sandwiches will come in three fan-favorite flavors: Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon, Frosted Strawberry, and Frosted Chocolate Fudge. The pints are rolling out in Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon, Frosted Strawberry, and Frosted S’mores. Each sandwich features creamy ice cream layered between two actual Pop-Tarts, making this the ultimate mashup of breakfast and dessert.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by Pop-Tarts (@poptartsus)
“Pop-Tarts is a brand built on delicious flavors and playful spirit—and this frozen debut captures that energy perfectly,” said Frances Alvarez, SVP of brand management at Beanstalk, which partnered with Kellanova to develop the products, according to USA Today.
Pop-Tarts fans have been DIY-ing ice cream sandwiches for years, but now there’s a legit, ready-made version heading to freezers. Walmart will debut the ice cream sandwiches this May, with pints arriving at select retailers later in the summer.
Pop-Tarts has been teasing bold new flavors and formats since the 1960s, but this latest twist feels like a natural next step. Judging by the early buzz on social media, Pop-Tarts may have just won the summer snack wars before Memorial Day even hits. Of course, considering how many fans commented asking for cookie dough flavor, perhaps there's the possibility of an additional flavor coming later.
So, if you’ve ever sandwiched a scoop of ice cream between two Pop-Tarts and thought, “This should be a thing,” congratulations...it finally is.
Walmart Has a 34-Piece Grilling Tool Kit for Under $40 That Shoppers Say Is a 'Must-Buy' for Outdoor Cooking
Men’s Journal aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
Grilling is typically portrayed as a simple activity: You get a nice grill, a spatula or some tongs, and maybe a meat thermometer, and you’re ready to go. Yet, techniques to properly grill a steak, get perfectly grilled chicken thighs, and make the perfect shish kebab aren’t super simple. They often require a collection of grill tools. That’s why we’re excited about this 34-piece grill set that Walmart is selling for under $40.
The Mibote 34-Piece BBQ Grill Accessories Set is now marked down to only $36—nearly 50% off its usual $66, and it even has free shipping. Each piece in the set averages to just a hair over $1, which is mind-blowing when we see that meat thermometers alone can cost between $9 and $12. Walmart shoppers agree, too, as the set has earned nearly 100 five-star ratings and has already sold out in the alternate brown-colored version.
Mibote 34-Piece Grill Accessories Kit, $36 (was $66) at Walmart
This set has everything you’re going to want to get your meat and veg of choice done properly: Tongs, knives, an oven mitt, skewers, a spatula, a grill brush, a meat injector, grill mats, and so much more. The metal pieces are stainless steel and, where it makes sense, have loops on the end so you can place them on your grill’s gear hooks for clean storage in the open air. Plus, they’re all dishwasher safe for a quick post-cookout cleanup.
One shopper called the Mibote set a “must-buy if you are looking for any grill accessories” because the set has “every BBQ item you will ever need.” Like many customer reviews, the shopper praised the high value-per-dollar of the kit and mentioned that “the case is also fantastic and holds everything well and in its place.”
Another shopper had intended to gift it to their son (this is a popular gift item), but found it was too much of a “keeper” to let go. They said they were “very surprised” at how sturdy the items were for the price and that they loved “how everything I need is in one place now.”
This Mibote grill accessory set is likely to sell out soon at a price of just $36. The brown variation is already gone, and we’ve watched the stock of other Mibote grill accessory kits dwindle in mere hours, too. If you want this kit, you should get it now.
