Trump and his allies certainly seem shocked by Harris’ speed
Former President Donald Trump appears to be frustrated with the momentum behind Kamala Harris’ campaign.
Trump’s messages this week included praise for the size of the crowd and his defense of Biden.
Some allies have acknowledged the challenges of the campaign and Trump’s need to stay on message.
Former President Donald Trump seemed to be on top of the world, which now seems like a fleeting moment this summer.
He led in the presidential election. His opponent delivered perhaps the most devastating debate performance in recent memory. The Supreme Court granted him some presidential immunity, and a Florida judge threw out his classified documents. He survived a literal assassination attempt.
But the images of a smiling Trump surrounded by revelers wearing his own earmuffs as Hulk Hogan ripped off his shirt in support of the former president seem almost like a distant memory.
Ever since Vice President Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee, there has been unmistakable excitement surrounding her campaign, from record donations to closing the gap — and even leading — in some swing state elections.
After Harris chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as his running mate, the former president even seems a little shocked by Harris’ latest spurt.
When Business Insider reached out for news of Trump’s frustration with the pace of the Harris campaign, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Chueng called it “fake news.”
“President Trump and his campaign team are doing everything they can to win this election,” he said in an email, adding that the stakes were too high and “everyone knows how to row together in the same direction. The party and the movement have never been more united.”
Trump keeps going off messageWhen President Joe Biden was his opponent, Trump seemed to have no trouble staying on message: Biden is too old, look at the border, look at how high the prices are at the grocery store, etc.
But with Harris, Trump can’t seem to nail down a counter-message, at times even visibly frustrated at a press conference this week at the hype surrounding his campaign.
He hasn’t been able to avoid bringing up race and gender — even questioning Harris’ heritage when he spoke at a conference of black journalists — even as allies urged him to focus on the issues.
He has even taken to defending Biden.
In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, he unfoundedly said that Harris and other Democrats “stole” the presidency from Biden.
At a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday, he again insisted that Biden had “the right to run” but that the Democrats “took it away.”
When a reporter asked Trump at the same press conference if he was concerned about the size of the crowd Harris was leading, he seemed indignant in response. “Oh, give me a break,” he said, accusing the press of being oblivious to the large crowds he drew.
He even claimed that he drew a bigger crowd to the National Mall on January 6, 2021 than Martin Luther King Jr. did in 1963 when he gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. (King had an estimated 250,000 people. The January 6 committee estimated Trump had 53,000.)
Some Trump allies are also concernedIt’s not just Trump who seems a bit rattled by the electoral tables turning, as some on the right lost faith in the former president’s ability to win in November.
“At the convention, it was game over, and the Democrats understood that,” Republican National Committeeman Richard Porter told The Washington Post. “It felt like it was too good to be true, and it was.”
Five people close to the campaign, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Post Trump that Trump is constantly expressing frustration with how the race is shaping up. “It’s unfair that I hit him and now I have to hit him too,” Trump recently told an ally, the news outlet reported.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, a close Trump ally, even admitted to the Post that the campaign has “hit a few speed bumps.”
Right-winger Ben Shapiro told The New York Times that Trump needs to focus on attacking the Harris-Walz campaign and “stick to the simple point: You were better off in 2019 than you were in 2024.”
It’s impossible to say whether all the momentum behind the Harris campaign will ultimately lead to a victory in November.
Meanwhile, Trump’s handling of the issue may not help his case.

What the NYT and Washington Post Op-Eds Get Wrong About Crypto
First, and most critically, only a tiny fraction of crypto is used for illicit activity, far less than what we see in traditional finance, which could be up to 5% of global GDP, according to the United Nations. According to analytics firm Chainalysis, money laundering accounts for less than 0.5% of all crypto transaction flows. This is also steadily declining over time. Even as crypto usage increased in 2023, the amount of money laundered in crypto fell from $31.5 billion in 2022 to $22.2 billion in 2023. No significant amount of illicit activity is acceptable, but to point the finger at crypto as the bad guy is both inaccurate and laborious.
Redmi Note 14, Poco X7 Neo Surface on BIS certification site ahead of expected debut
The Redmi Note 14 could be launching in India soon, as the smartphone has appeared on the regulator’s website. The alleged successor to the Redmi Note 13 has been listed on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification website, in a listing that also includes another phone that is likely to debut as the Poco X7 Neo. While the specifications of the Redmi Note 14 are currently shrouded in mystery, the phone was previously listed on Chinese website 3C, suggesting an imminent launch.
A listing for a Redmi phone with model number 24094RAD4I has appeared on the BIS website (via Gizmochina). While the listing doesn’t specify the name of the phone, it is speculated to be a variant of the Redmi Note 14 that was recently approved by Chinese regulator 3C, where it was listed under the model number 24094RAD4C.
The BIS website lists a Redmi phone and a Poco phone
The same BIS listing also mentions a Poco phone with model number 2409FPCC4I, and its inclusion in the same entry suggests that it will be similar to the alleged Redmi Note 14. Again, there is no mention of the smartphone’s name or specifications in the listing on the certification website.
Earlier this year, the Poco X6 Neo was unveiled as a new version of the Redmi Note 13, hence we can assume that the Poco phone listed on the BIS website could be the Poco X7 Neo.
Redmi Note 13, Poco X6 Neo SpecificationsThe Redmi Note 13 and Poco X6 Neo launched with Android 13 and the company’s MIUI 14 on top. Both the phones feature a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. They are powered by a 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6800 chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM.
The Redmi Note 13 and Poco X6 Neo feature a 108-megapixel main camera with a 3x zoom built into the sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor, while the phones come with a 16-megapixel selfie camera.
The Redmi Note 14 and Poco X6 Neo offer up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage and have a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W charging. Both phones feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication. Meanwhile, the phones are IP54-rated against dust and splashes.

Janhvi Kapoor movie progress report so far
New Delhi:
Janhvi Kapoor’s latest movie Out was released in theaters on August 2. According to Sacnilk’s report Out hit ₹35,000 on the second Friday. The total amount on this basis is 7.55 million rupees. Directed by Sudhanshu Saria, Out tells the story of Suhana Bhatia (played by Janhvi Kapoor), a young IFS officer who is the only woman appointed to the Indian High Commission in London. Apart from Janhvi, the film stars Gulshan Devaiah, Rajesh Tailang, Meiyang Chang and Roshan Mathew in the lead roles.
Earlier, in an interaction with Variety, Janhvi Kapoor discussed her preparation for the role of Suhana Bhatia. He mentioned that he attended extensive acting workshops and devoted a lot of time to reading the script. “It really changed the way I look at my skills. And then I just disappeared for 10-12 days before shooting with the script. I wanted to spend time with the script and myself at home… getting to know the text,” he said.
Janhvi added that he focused more on the mental aspects of his character than the physical factors. As Suhana Bhatia was an IFS officer, the actress expressed her desire to undergo training related to that government rank. “I wanted to do the education that Suhana had probably done in her life. And when I was thrown into these physically demanding situations, I approached it the same way as Suhana, who doesn’t actually have combat training, she said.
The game is played by Vineet Jain and co-produced by Amrita Pandey. Out has been released under the banner of Junglee Pictures.
Government pressure on the National Electoral Commission is based on Eastern standards
“Donald Tusk involved the entire state apparatus to ensure that the National Electoral Commission rejected the PiS election report. These are not normal standards, these are not democratic standards,” Anna Gembicka, a former Agriculture Minister and PiS MP, said on Telewizja wPoland.
Editor Aleksandra Jakubowska first asked MP Gembicka about Minister Marzena Okły-Drewnowicz’s statement that the PiS government had left the Polish economy in a bad state.
Some facts about the state in which we left the Polish economy. There is a graph, I don’t remember if it was drawn up by the World Bank or the International Monetary Fund, where you can easily see that, strangely enough, when Law and Justice is in power, Polish GDP grows significantly, and when the PO is in power, we either have this stagnation or a slight decline. So I think that speaks for itself in terms of the state of the economy.
– emphasized the PiS politician.
As PiS, we were, above all, an efficient and effective government. Unlike the December 13 Coalition government. Because when the crisis related to the outbreak of war in Ukraine occurred, we managed to find funds for the energy shield, to reduce VAT on food and energy. And when the PO appeared, suddenly they said that “there is no money and there will be no money”. Donald Tusk is back, the VAT mafias are back. The VAT gap is back. We have already heard that there are budget deficits and that the money will get worse. And yet, before the elections, Donald Tusk said that they had such experts that when they came to power, the money would be found almost automatically. So where are these announcements now?
– she added.
“The laziest SejmThis is the laziest Sejm, even compared to the previous PO-PSL governments. They now introduce twice as many bills as they did during the Law and Justice period. This is a fair measure, it simply shows in numbers what the Sejm does. If any bills do come up, they are usually simply about implementing EU legislation.
– said deputy Gembicka.
Just look at how many of these supposed details were fulfilled out of the hundred promised. There are probably 8 or 10 and some of them concerned non-statutory activities that did not require bills.
– she pointed.
It is not that the president automatically rejects all laws. This is an excuse for simply not working. Taking care of filling positions in state treasury companies. There should be no nepotism. There should be no admission of party activists. And almost every day we hear that another activist from the PO, PSL or Polski 2050 has taken some position. I see this in agricultural institutions, where recently it has often been seen that incompetent people who managed these agricultural agencies very poorly are returning.
– emphasized the interlocutor of Telewizja wPolska.
“If I were a member of the National Electoral Commission, I would be very worried.”The presenter also questioned the former minister about the subsidy to PiS and the long-delayed decision of the National Electoral Commission.
If this were a lawful decision, based on and within the limits of the law, the National Electoral Commission should approve the report, because there are no grounds for rejecting it. However, we are seeing an incredible amount of pressure at the moment. Every now and then we hear, for example, from Minister Berek, we hear from Mr. Grabiec, who also strongly lobbied for the National Electoral Commission to reject the report. Moreover, several neo-TVP materials contain information that the matter has already been decided.
– said deputy Gembicka.
However, if I were a member of the National Election Commission, I would be very concerned. Because either someone is irresponsible enough to provide this kind of information before the vote, which raises even more doubts about the reliability and honesty of the National Election Commission, or someone simply creates false materials to force certain behavior. These are Eastern patterns, in which the opposition is fought with all available methods.
– she added.
Donald Tusk involved the entire state apparatus to ensure that the National Electoral Commission rejected the PiS election report. These are not normal standards, these are not democratic standards.
– emphasized Anna Gembicka.

“I haven’t had a drop of alcohol in a little over a year – here’s why I’m back on booze”
I wasn’t a regular drinker at home, but I found it quite easy to abstain from alcohol during the months when you couldn’t get out of the house – unless it was for a walk or the supermarket.
Even though the nation decided to get cozy at home from January to April 2021, I hadn’t touched a drop.
The real challenge was then when life started to return to normal – when pubs, bars and social gatherings were back on the agenda.
I wanted to challenge myself, I thought, “How hard can it be to stay away from booze”?
Surprisingly, I found it much easier than I had expected, although the reactions of the people around me were not the most supportive.
It was during this period of tea totalism that British drinking culture became blatantly obvious.
I saw a drunk middle-aged woman fall off a chair outside a pub; his head hit the concrete floor.
He laughed it off and stumbled back up to take another sip of his white wine. I winced.
I may have been sober, on a daytime date a few tables away from the incident, but I’ve been there. Drunk. On the floor.
It’s really eye-opening when you go to late-night spots stone-cold sober.
I’ve seen a lot – people inciting fights for no reason, inappropriate fondling in public spaces, and the confused look in someone’s eyes when they’ve exceeded their drink limit.
Some friends pleaded that they wanted me to engage in drinking “to have fun”; “I can have fun without drinking,” I smiled back.
I was still my outgoing, personable self who loved to socialize – I just didn’t become a mess at the end of the night and left at the right time.
There are too many situations in my past, especially when I was much younger when I was working in a bar in Covent Garden, where I would struggle to get home because I was so drunk.
When asked if I felt different when I didn’t drink, I said, “I don’t feel different, but I’m sure my inner self loves me.”
My skin didn’t clear up and I didn’t lose weight, but I’m sure my liver thanked me and so did my bank balance.
Although the drinking culture is still big, drinking today is more of a choice than a mindless one, which is probably the most fundamental shift in my thinking.
So why am I back to booze? Because I like a good margarita, a decent glass of wine, or a half pint of beer every now and then, but I can still go out sober.
PiS’s elaborate plan is falling apart. Donald Trump was supposed to be its ace in the hole
How hard PiS played against Trump was visible, for example, in the behavior of PiS MEP Dominik Tarczyński. Wearing a cap with the words “Make Europe Great Again” on his head, he shouted: “We believe that President Trump is very necessary now. We really need him. As Europe and as Poland, we need this way of thinking. Common sense, security, family support. That’s why we need this man. (…) Oh my God, he is needed like never before.”
PiS’s keeping its fingers crossed for Biden’s health didn’t help. On July 21, the US president withdrew his bid for re-election. Under enormous pressure from his own party. Under the weight of polls predicting his defeat in the election. If Biden were to continue to fight Trump, it would almost seem like an easy victory for the Democrats. Accepting inevitable failure. Vice President Kamala Harris, the party’s new nominee, and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are different. The confrontation between Trump and Harris is already a real fight, the outcome of which cannot yet be predicted.
Kamala Harris is frustrating Trump. And PiS
The latest Marist poll conducted on behalf of PBS News and NPR shows that 51 percent of registered voters in the U.S. would vote for Kamala Harris. She has come in ahead of Donald Trump — her result in this poll was 48 percent. This is a national poll, but Harris has also regained ground on Trump in states where the election results will be decided.
The US campaign is entering a whole new phase. Teams are gearing up for the first debate between Harris and Trump. It is scheduled to air on ABC on September 10. Although the former president had previously announced on social media that he would not participate in this fight (because he had made plans with Biden, not Harris), he changed his mind over time.
This resumption of the American campaign and the return of the Democrats’ hopes of retaining the White House are of great importance for Polish politics. And especially for the presidential elections in mid-2025, PiS wanted to make its candidate the “Polish Trump”. And to build on the wave of triumph of Donald Trump’s return to the White House the narrative that only the PiS candidate will take care of Poland’s security. After all, the PiS camp has the best contacts with the US leader. All the more so since politicians from the ruling majority – especially Prime Minister Donald Tusk – have attacked the Republicans for withholding military aid to Ukraine. The Prime Minister directly wrote “shame on you”, which was echoed around the world.
Who would be PiS’s version of Donald Trump? It is still unknown, although Nowogrodzka is working hard to select its champion (we wrote about how this is done in “Newsweek”). The short list includes: Zbigniew Bogucki (PiS MP and former voivode), Tobiasz Bocheński (PiS MP and former candidate for president of Warsaw), Karol Nawrocki (president of the Institute of National Remembrance) and Waldemar Buda (PiS MP, former Minister of Development). Bogucki is currently considered the favorite, followed by Bocheński. Mateusz Morawiecki, Mariusz Błaszczak, Patryk Jaki and Przemysław Czarnek will also be examined – but on a more pro forma basis.
The PiS plan is falling apart
However, the situation in the US means that the PiS plan is starting to unravel. Trump’s victory – so obvious after Biden’s disastrous debate performance in late June and the failed attempt on the Republican candidate’s life – is now a big question mark.
Our PiS interlocutors emphasize that the scale of contributions to Harris’s campaign, which is a kind of litmus test for her prospects of winning the election, is impressive. In July alone, Harris raised $310 million for her presidential campaign – more than the campaign of Republican candidate Donald Trump, which raised approximately $140 million during that period.
Our other interlocutor, also a member of PiS, says: – We are returning to the situation of June, when Trump was the favorite, but did not have a victory in his pocket.
From June onwards, that is, before the televised confrontation between Trump and Biden, in which the incumbent president suffered a dismal defeat, and calls for the withdrawal of the Democrats and the media that supported them became choral and insistent.
Our interlocutors assure us that Nowogrodzka has exceptionally good and direct contact with Donald Trump’s team. PiS politicians are even supposed to suggest to the former president’s team how to win votes from the Polish-American community. “We have never had such close contact with Trump’s people before,” adds one of the PiS interlocutors. But they do not provide the names of their contacts abroad. Nowogrodzka is counting on the support of US spin doctors next year. The Americans are more advanced when it comes to online campaigns and the use of artificial intelligence.
Will Trump support PiS?
Polish Radio recently published an interview with Trump’s former (in 2016) chief of staff, then his advisor, who is also currently in his entourage (as head of the UltraMaga committee), Corey Lewandowski.
He stated that if Trump wins the US presidential election, he will support the PiS camp in Poland and its candidate for head of state in 2025. Trump has very close relations with the current president, Andrzej Duda, and on Duda’s behalf he would do well – in Lewandowski’s opinion – to support a conservative candidate to succeed him.
This would be the PiS’s dream – but only a dream. It is hard to imagine an official endorsement from Trump (the winner, not the loser, because then his vote would not matter). Even our interlocutors from Nowogrodzka assume that it is quite impossible for Trump – sitting in the Oval Office – to say that he supports a completely unknown PiS candidate for head of state. What’s more, Andrzej Duda is hated and despised by the PiS chairman, who will ultimately choose his party’s candidate.
When choosing a candidate, Nowogrodzka does not intend to look at the incumbent president. Not at all. After all, she has calculated how much the incumbent president’s support is worth. This was demonstrated by the “Wojciech test”. Even the candidate’s greatest efforts in the history of Duda’s presidency in the elections did not yield much. The “test” was that in Wielkopolskoye, the first candidate on the PiS list for the European Parliament was the head of state’s collaborator, Minister Wojciech Kolarski – despite the president’s zealous support, he only came in third and did not win a seat in the European Parliament. “Therefore, we will not agree with Andrzej Duda at all, and certainly not with our candidate for his successor,” one of the leading PiS politicians told Newsweek.
